Managed Account permissions issues after all third party updates

I run a lab with 34 student accounts that are "Managed" using 10.5.7. I have given students permission to use specific software and all aspects of the software in Accounts/Parental Controls. When I update Microsoft Office or Adobe CS4, I have to go into every single student account and into each individual program to "always allow" which is about 10 programs for each machine. Of coarse all the checkmarks in the parental controls are already checked off for the student account when I check under parental controls?
Anybody having this issue. This happens on both Intel and PowerPc's.
This happens on fresh installs of Leopard to disks that have been zeroed out, on updates from Tiger and on CC cloned machines.
I have of coarse repaired all permissions before and after the updates.
It is extrememely laborious to have to do this after small incremental updates to third party software.
Actually, I've had to do it with Safari as well. It may not just be a third party issue.
One things for certain. It is ****.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Is DW installed on a server or is it installed on a user's desktop?  If it is installed on a server then it won't install properly because it is not designed to be run from a server because of licensing issues.  Adobe can't allow you to use one user license and then installing on a server and so used by 100 other users. When you reply please also state your operating system.

  • All Third Party Apps Immediately Quite After Launch

I have restored my 16G 3G iPhone several times, yet repeatedly run into the same problem in which any and all third party apps will immediately quit out right after an attempted launch. However, all of the original pre-installed Apple apps work fine.
I currently have about 87 third party apps, which iTunes reports as taking up 574.8MB of space. It does not matter as to the order or last app installed, the problem still crops up.
Needless to say I am extremely frustrated over this loss of function and the enormous amount of time spent in trying to troubleshoot the problem. Each attempted has been made with a clean restore. I have started from scratch with no backup data being reinstalled.
Is anyone else experiencing this problem and, or might know what’s going on and offer a solution?

This is what I have come up with.
I am having the same problem with the 2.0.1 software update. What I did to fix the problem was:
1.)Unsync the apps off the iPhone.
2.)Disconnect your iPhone from the computer.
3.)Reset iPhone: press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least 10 seconds. During this time, a red "power off" slider may appear and the screen may go black, but do not release Sleep/Wake and Home buttons until the Apple logo appears.
3.)Reconnect your iPhone to the computer and resync your apps and they should work again.
But there is still a "bug" with the software 2.0.1. If you "Reset" your iPhone at anytime by holding the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button the apps will not work again after the restart completes. Then you will have to perform the same steps I have listed above to get them working again. This is a huge pain in the ***. And apple needs to fix and address this problem. I am having this problem on my iPhone 2G and my girlfriends 3g iPhone. I have had to do this 10 times already between both phones, it's not fun. =8-(

  • Many apps are just flashing (not all third-party ones, though)

    Hello,
I know this is the umpteenth post about this issue, but I have tried all tricks I've read before going for a full restore and I'm wondering if some other trick might be known to the community.
First, the well-known issue is the following: some apps, when executed, cause only a brief "flash" on the iPad's screen, and then the desktop is shown again. The "flashing" app appears nevertheless in the bar with all running apps, but nothing changes if I hit the minus sign to "quit" the app. If I then restart the app, it's flashing again and I'm back to square one. Moreover, also opening the app from the bar with all running apps causes the same behaviour.
In the past I've already faced the most common version of this problem, where all third-party apps would exhibit this behaviour and only Apple's apps where working. In those cases, either the "get a free app" trick or the "sign out/sign in" trick with the Apple Store solved the issue. Now, nothing seems to solve the issue and, moreover, in this case several third-party apps work as expected. Nevertheless, at first sight it seems that roughly half of all third-party apps don't work, it's not just some isolated app. Please note that some of those apps work perfectly on the iPhone 4S with the same OS version, so I tend to rule out a compatibility issue with the OS, also because some apps were still working on the same iPad after updating to 5.1.
Here's the list of operations I've performed, to no avail:
Quitting all apps and restarting the failing ones
Installing a new app from the iTunes Store on the iPad, entering the iTunes Store password
Signing out from the Apple Store on the iPad, and then signing back in
Removed one of the failing apps from the iPad, resynched, added back the app to the iPad from iTunes, resynched.
Switching down the iPad and restarting it
Forcing a restart of the iPad by keeping both buttons pressed
Is there any other reasonable procedure to be attempted before going for a complete backup/reset/restore of the iPad?
    Thanks and best regards,
    Giovanni

Just an update, in order to collect more feedback about this issue.
I have added three further attempts at a solution:
    Resetting all settings
Removing iCloud from the iPad (there's a user here in the community quite vocal about problems with iCloud)
Restoring the iPad using the latest backup
After the last move, which was what I meant to avoid but then I had apparently no other options, the problem got worse. Now all third-party apps, and even Apple's iWork touch apps, crash suddenly, even those that worked before the restore operation. I was hoping that such a condition was the well-known problem solved with any new download from the App Store, but that's not the case, unfortunately.
I'm then going to reset the iPad and restart from scratch. It's a waste of time, but hopefully less painful than keeping on chasing a solution for my weird issue.
If anyone has actually solved this kind of problem, please add your reply here.
    Thanks and best regards,
    Giovanni

  • Ability to have all third party payments through ACB(EFT)

    Hi Guru's,
please help if any one know the below information.
    South Africa Legislation
Customer would like to have the ability to have all third party payments like SARS(taxes),Pension & Retirement fund,Garnish payments made electronically. He believes
this can be accomplished by creating a new Payment Method and then assigning to the Personal Payment Method. It would have to be another process similar to ACB
trasfer(EFT), some kind of magnetic transfer. Is this a standard process or need any customization required.
    Thanks

I started seeing the same symptoms today. I also noticed that at some point my iPhone's name in iTunes had changed from "<my name>'s iPhone" to "iPhone".
I tried all suggestions in this thread with no luck.
Since I had sync'ed several times after the problem started, my "restore from iPhone backup" operation was restoring the iPhone to the same wrong state. I wanted to restore it to the state it was before the problem started this morning. However, iTunes only restores to the latest backup.
I found that on the Mac, the iPhone backups are kept in:
    /Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup
There were two directories for my iPhone (there's supposed to be only one). One was a long string of characters, the second one was the same string plus a string with a date at the end (as in "328... - 20090820"). I figured whatever happened, happened this morning and iTunes started considering my iPhone a different phone, not authorized to run my apps.
I disconnected my iPhone from my laptop and closed iTunes. I went to my backup (Time Machine, for those who care to know) and restored the content of the MobileSync/Backup directory from a date before this morning. I restarted iTunes. On my iPhone, I went to Settings -> General -> Reset -> Reset all settings and contents (this will erase all your iPhone apps, music, pictures and settings, including any WiFi passwords saved). After that finished, I connected my iPhone to my laptop (the iPhone prompts you to do that). First iTunes activated my iPhone, then rebooted it, and then restored all of its contents.
As a side note, you can interrupt the restoration at any time, it will just pick up where it left off the next time you connect your iPhone. In fact, after most of my apps were restored, I interrupted it, went out for dinner, and as I type this the rest of my apps have been restored and now my music is being copied back to my iPhone.
All my apps are working now.

  • Why do we have to activate individually all third party apps!!! There should be as easier way!

Why do we have to activate individually all third party apps!!! There should be as easier way! Apple TV is not Apple anymore...

Primarily because those third party apps are just that, they are not Apple apps, and each have their own requirements for activation.

  • Third Party Updates?

Are there any third party updates for Mac OS 9...

You would have to check the 3rd party's website. A couple of places to start at an all in one website would be:

    MacUpdate

  • Is there any fix for the bluetooth connectivity issue after most recent OS update?

Seems to be a common problem particularly with bluetooth headseat connectivity. Any ideas?

There is no bluetooth connectivity issue after the recent OS update. There may be a problem with your phone, which may or may not be related to the update. A "common problem" looks like this in the forums:
I haven't seen any threads on BlueTooth with over 1.4 million views and over 12,000 replies, or even any vaguely close. For any problem that someone has there is bound to be someone else amoung 150 million users who have it. That doesn't make it a "common problem."
If you tell us what the problem is specifically and what you have done so far to try to resolve it someone can probably help you.

  • All third party apps won't open after moving to 4g

I updated the desktop to iTunes 10 and downloaded all of the updates to my iPod apps. I bought a new 4g to replace a lost 2g. I synced after dl'ing app updates to the desktop.
All 3rd party apps only open and close all in 1/2 second.
Will the suggestion on the support page about reauthorizing the computer help this issue?
I haven't been able to get back home to try. Thanks.
(disregard specs below.... I still have all that, but now I'm on my 4gTouch)

Sorry, I was sending that from my iPod.
I lost my last iPod. It was backed up on iTunes on my Desktop computer. It was a 2G model.
I've been off the internet for about 4 months but recently bought a new 4G Touch and got a new Broadband2Go card.
So, I used my Desktop computer to update all the apps for my Touch to iTunes on my Desktop, then I synced my iPod to my Desktop to apply all of the updates to the Touch.
All apps are there, just like before, but nothing will open. Only the Apple apps. They flash but close right away.
I'm home now, and will try the Apple suggestion in the FAQ.
I just wanted to make sure it was the best way to approach my particular problem.

  • ALL third-party applications crash upon save, open, or save as

Okay everyone, this is an odd one.
I recently installed photoshop CS6.  However, when I try to save my documents in CS6, CS6 freezes, then crashes without an error report.  The same thing happens if I try to open or 'save as' a document.  However, if the document was created in Gimp, I can right-click the image in finder, click 'open with' Photoshop, and then something weird happens - File>open still doesnt work (but I don't need it to, as I've opened the image I need) File>save as still crashes - but File>save and Command-S work fine.
I've spent the last few weeks searching for an answer on the adobe forums and found nothing that has solved my problem.  And then, something else happened.
Today I installed Python 3.3.  Brand new, fresh installation.  Started up my IDLE and typed in some code, then hit command-S.
The same thing happened - Python 3.3 froze, then crashed, also without an error report.  The exact same symtoms.
This got me thinking, so I opened up Openoffice 4.  This had been installed on my mac by my school's ICT services, and had never been opened before - a fresh installation.  Once again, saving a document in openoffice 4 also caused it to freeze, then crash.
So, I took my mac into the ICT department and got them to have a look at it.  They recommended repairing my disc permissions - which I did - and then, if that didn't work, reinstalling Maveriks.
I'm currently typing this on my mac, having spent the last 3 hours downloading and installing a fresh copy of Maveriks, and still I have the same problem.  Any third-party applications freeze and crash when I try to save.
As I am the only user of my computer, I always run applications from an administratior account.  Creating a new admin account hasn't helped.
All of these applications work when I'm running in safe mode.
My educated guess is that it's something to do with finder.
Whenever photoshop CS6 crashes, it's when a finder window should appear - for example, so I can choose a name for my new document, or select a document to open.  But if the image was opened with finder's right-click, open with Photoshop, then CS6 doesnt have to open a finder window.  If the image has already been created, CS6 doesnt have to open a finder window when I hit Command-S.
But I have no clue how to fix it.
This guy (https://discussions.apple.com/message/16595546#16595546) seems to have a similar problem to me, and he fixed it by moving all his items off his desktop.  I've done that, but the problem persists.
Adobe (http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/crash-using-open-save-dialog-mac.html) suggests that my viewing options in finder could be the problem.  I've tried the solution described in the article above, and the problem persists.
Please, I need to be able to use Python and CS6 for my schoolwork!  Help me if you can!
Help me, (your name here), you're my only hope!

    Hello Rick,
Through all the research I have done so far and talking with a few other coworkers what the common issues that cause this are is:
    1. Antivirus: disabling the antivirus is not good enough it needs to be totaly uninstalled and retested.
    2. startup programs: these need to be disabled through either Safe mode with networking or the start menu or MSconfig.
    3. Office addins: Disable all of them see if that helps. Then turn them back on one by one to see which addin is causing the issue.
To disable addins: 1. open up regedit and navigate to this key. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Word\Addins and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\Word\Addins
Then change the LoadBehavior to 0 this will disable the addin. 3 lets it run. Since this affected only one user HKEY_LOCAL_USER might be your best bet but don't rule out the other location.
To verify there are no addins running go to the File tab>options>Add-Ins make sure nothing is listed under Active Application Add-ins.
    I hope this helps
    Thanks,

  • All third party apps stopped working (crash at launch)

Ok, so there's a BUNCH of people having the exact same problem as I do (search this forum or Google with the title of this post). And I'm posting this in iPad but it does happen on iPhone too. Summary :
Often after an iOS update (but not always) third party apps stop working. When started, they flash open and then just quit.
Apple built-in apps keep working fine.
NOTHING solves the problem : hard reboot (home+power until reboot), deinstall+reinstall one/all apps, restore the iPhone/iPad, buy a new (free) app from the store to "reset" software authorization, de/reauthorize computer, reset password from app store account, deinstall app and then reinstall using the iPad directly (not via iTunes), etc.
I have one iPhone 4 and one iPad with this issue.
Oddly enough, on the iPad, only apps that have recently been UPDATED crash. Apps that were present and left alone on the device keep working. On the iPhone, there was an iOS update so everthing was reinstalled and therefore doesn't work anymore.
Strangest thing : reset the device to make sure nithing is open in the background, launch an app, app crashes and returns to springboard, double click "home" and... tadaam, the crashed app is in the list of open apps. On the iPad, 4-finger slide does even go to that app's screen (which is pitch black).
As I said, 30 minutes of googling revealed at least 50 identical cases. All seem related to iOS 5.1. My iPhone rune iOS 5.1.1 (that was the upgrade) and my iPad runs iOS 5.1 and I'm NOT doing the update until I can solve this crazy thing.
    Please, all, HELP !
    Thanks in advance.

Please, Alan, I know my message might be a bit long, but do read it! I DID try that and absolutely everything else that was mentionned in the other posts about this subject. Nothing works. And it doesn't work for the others either, not just me.
The only thing I can think of right now is to put the iDevice in DFU then make a clean install and configure it as a new iThingy. This looses all stored data and config so it's a pain in the a... and I won't try it unless I'm pretty sure nothing else can be done. And I'm not entirely sre it'll work, either…

  • All third party icons disappear Yosemite

While I'm editing my bookmarks in Safari all the third-party icons disappear from the menu bar. In fact they did not stop working but they just disappeared.
I tried to relaunch the Finder but without any result.
I fixed this issue only by logging out of my account.
Does anyone know what may cause this problem?

Same problem starting today except the icons are not working at all other than tool tips showing when I hover over where they should be.

  • Yosemite - Managed Accounts Network Issues

I have an iMac mid 2011 (wow - doesn't time fly!) with several Managed Accounts for each of my children. However since updating to Yosemite, their accounts have very temperamental internet connectivity. However, if i fast switch to my standard account, the internet is working fine - switch back and their accounts still don't work.
I have upgraded /their accounts to Standard users and they now allow internet access.
I tried turning off the Apple network protection (i.e. to limit access to inappropriate sites etc) before using the nuke option but that didn't work.
I also manually set the DNS - no effect.
I did notice that the accounts could access the local LAN, just not the internet.
I use an Airport Time Capsule connected to a Firebox 7940 router which has been (until now) a great combo.
Does anyone have any ideas what happened?
How to fix this so that I can re-enable parental controls?
    Kind regards,

Temporary resolve the https: site accessing issue for parental controlled account is to disable parental control.
For past a few weeks, my kids started abusing their computer time since there was no parental control anymore.  I really need to get the parenting control back and get the situation under control.
I was planning to down grade Yosemite back to Mavericks and started backing up all files for each user account.  Last night, unexpectedly I notice that Yosemite 10.10.1 is ready, so I figured to give it a try even it did not mention parental control issue.  After install this pitch, I restored parental control for all my kids’ account.  It seems resolved the issue.

  • All third party software no longer works

I've been trying to open Microsoft Word, Seashore, and so on today, and for some reason none of them will open anymore, whereas all of my first party software is fine as usual.
The only thing I think it could be is that I ran the program that deleted all the unneccesary languages earlier on today. I didn't try any of the third party software before that, so I can't be sure if the two are connected.
I don't really want to restore the laptop to factory settings, is there another way to get the programs to work again, or undo what that program uninstalled?
    Thanks in advance.

    Yes, it was monolingual.
I definitely didn't delete "english", but I didn't see the option for US English, so maybe it was that.
I think the program also deleted some operating systems, for other computers like G5 and stuff.
I tried reinstalling the third party software and there was no change.
Restoring the whole system isn't that much of a problem, the only annoying thing would be transferring all the music from my other computer again, but it isn't a huge issue really.
What is the best way of restoring the system? Do I just put the Mac OX install disks in and follow some options?
