Management Console won't launch

Using ESM 3.5 on Windows server 2003 standard. Database is on another
server on the lan.
When I launch the managment console I get:
"The Logon Message Management Console could not log you on. Make sure
your username and configuration are correct, then type your password
again"
The problem is that I've not typed my username or password, this just
comes up immediately!
I previously had configured and tested an Active Directory ldap
connection. I have yet to see the managment console. Is there some way
to clear the config and start over?

ESM is a fresh install. The server is in production, but ESM is not in
production. ESM Management Console appeared to install correctly to the
end. Upon execution it presented me with a dialog to setup connection to
a directory. I set up a connection to our active directory and tested
using the "test" button and the test passed. I launch the Management
Console again and got the message above. I restarted the server and
attempted to launch Management Console again, and still received the
message above.
I'm wondering if there is a registry entry, text file, or SQL database
record that holds the ldap and authentication configuration or userid
password cache. And, if so, could that information be clear so as to re-
enter the configuration thru the GUI.
I have no idea what userid and password Management Console is attempting
to use, as I've not been prompted to login at any time, other than the
userid and password I specified when setting up the ldap connection to
Active Directory on the first launch of Management Console.
What did you reinstall? All of ESM or just the Management Console?
thanks.
You can run the managementserverinstaller.exe from c:\program files\novell\esm single server\authenticationserver\bin. This will clear the databases and allow you to re-enter everything in the Management Server's configuration. After running the managementserverinstaller.exe double click your esm managment console icon on the desktop and it should allow you to redo the configuration. What version are you using?

    Hi,
I download the Extension Manager CC to my PC desktop. When I try launching it both by either clicking on the icon for the app, or through the Adobe Exchange window in PSD CC, I get a message that says "Failed to initialize Extension Manager".
When I click on 'OK' the app closes.
I downloaded the app 3 times and still getting the same message. Before each additional download, I uninstalled the app from my PC.

    Hi mc051,
Do you use Active Directory? This is a known issue for user use Active Directory in a Domain, we will fix it in the coming update.
If NOT, please send Extension Manager log file to us, you can get logs by following steps:

  • ITunes won't launch, is running according to Task Manager, iTunes won't launch, is running according to Task Manager

I closed iTunes yesterday. SInce then, I have not been able to open it back up.
Task Manager says it's running, and opening it prompts a "allow permissions" pop-up. Then nothing happens.
I've heard people suggest I end a "daemon" process, but it's not running. I have also uninstalled itunes and re-installed. Nothing.
    Any suggestions?

    Hi again,
Helps if I give the correct link ! <br/>The press shift button appears to still work, but the option to start in safe mode from the programs listing of a standard install I do not think exists anymore.
Safe mode will start from a command line, (or a shortcut) and in some circumstances you may need to enter the full path name on a command or shortcut detailed instructions are at http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_mode
Remember (at least at this stage) do not make changes when you get the options list, just click on the continue button.
If you think that RealPlayer is causing the problem you could uninstall that for now.
Firefox recent versions are 3.6 4.0 (and 5.0 in beta). There is some debate as to whether creating new profiles or re-installing Firefox is the simplest method of troubleshooting and solving some of these problems, personally I use multiple profiles and multiple versions of Firefox, and tend to forget the required procedures are less than straightforward. For now at least try [[safe mode]] again.

  • Manage widgets won't launch so I can't delete widgets

Everything fine until I downloaded some new widgets today. Guess one is messing it up.
Is there a way to manually uninstall widgets until I find the offending widget or could it be something else?
    Thanks for any help
    Tel.

You can find widgets you've downloaded and installed in your home folder's Library/Widgets folder. Simply move the widgets you want to delete to the Trash, and then relogin (or restart) so that the offending widget is no longer loaded.

VM Management console shows the Virtual Machine in running status. However, while trying to launch the the console, firefox(10.0.5) always popups a window asking whether I want to download "ovm_rasproxy-ws.jnlp"

    Firefox 10.0.5
I have installed the following packages already
    ovm-console-1.0.0-2.i386.rpm
    ovm-console-1.0.0-2.x86_64.rpm
    tightvnc-java-1.3.9-3.noarch.rpm

    What could be wrong?

  • Acrobat X intermittently won't launch, multiple Acrobat.exe processes hanging in task manager

Apologies if this is in the wrong community area - I was unsure where it belongs.
This is an intermittent issue, but does happen several times a day.
Regardless of what method is used to launch Acrobat (double-clicking a PDF, clicking the shortcut in the taskbar, selecting Acrobat from the start menu), often the application won't launch. Upon investigation, task manager shows multiple instances of Acrobat.exe, although the application is not running (see the image below). Ending all Acrobat.exe processes does allow Acrobat to launch.
Any thoughts as to what might be causing this, as well as a more permanent fix? The workaround of constantly ending multiple processes is becoming cumbersome.
We are running Acrobat X Pro in Windows 7. I also have several CC 2014 apps installed (as well as a couple of earlier versions required for plugin functionality).

This happens all the time in my company with several installs of Acrobat.
The only way to fix this for us is to end each process in Task Manager as you have pointed out.
It is very time consuming in our workflow as we each operator deals with hundreds of PDFs daily, and has to do this End Process procedure several times a day.
We have done several tests and nothing seems to stop this from happening.

  • Photoshop CS6 won't launch and when it does it's really slow...help?

    Hi,
So my copy of Photoshop CS6 sometimes won't launch and when it does manage to launch fully, it's really slow. I mean ridiculously slow. The only times when I can get it to run even remotely quick is if I shut down my computer, and then restart it and then start up Photoshop CS6 as the first program. Even then it slows down after a while. (And I only have a firefox browser open usually, never more than a couple of tabs at once, so it's not a bandwidth issue)
    Here are my comp specs:
    Samsung
    Processor:
    AMD A6-3420M APU with
Radeon (Tm) HD graphics 1.50 ghz
    Installed Memory (RAM) - 4.00 (3.48 usable)
64 Bit operating System running on Windows 7 home premium, service pack 1
I also did just recently install the new update Adobe had for Photoshop, so that's up to date.
It's getting really frustrating! I have another program I'm using in the meantime (Paint tool Sai), but I'd really like to use Photoshop CS6.....
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Make sure you updated the drivers from AMD's website, not Microsoft.
Make sure you are running the 64 bit version of Photoshop, not 32 bit.
Disable all third party plugins, and try disabling system utilities (we've seen font managers, antivirus, disk backup software, etc. cause slowdowns due to bugs in those utilities).

  • IPhoto 11 won't launch and crashes every time I try to rebuild the library. Urgh.

iPhoto 11 won't launch- it's another case of an infinite skinny wheel. I've tried rebuilding the library numerous times, each time it takes about a day and each time it crashes near the end. This is just ridiculous. Any tips folks?
APPLE if you can hear me... shouldn't you be testing this stuff prior to release? I know you do but I mean, like REALLY testing it? This is my second iPhoto upgrade disaster. The last time I lost my entire library, had to spend £80 on recovery software that recovered not only most of my photos, but every image cached on my machine. So then I had the fun of sorting through literally thousands of images...
And I only got the upgrade becasue my iPhone is refusing to sync, freezing on the iPhoto bit. Gah.

Make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • My apps won't launch & menu bar missing all top left icons!!!

A strange concurrence of multiple problems:
I am a pretty advanced user and have an iBook G4/1.33 GHz running Tiger 10.4.8, but I am having trouble with my PowerMac G4/500 MHz running 10.3.9 right now. I keep my PowerMac in Panther since it is almost 7 years old and I only have Tiger on my iBook disc.
Suddenly a few things started to happen at once yesterday:
    1) NONE of the top right menu bar icons (OS 9 status, modem status, iChat, monitors, AirPort, Volume, clock, etc. show up upon log-in or restart.
    2) Virtually NONE of my apps will launch from the Dock or the Finder. They bounce a few times then give up, with no error message.
I peformed successful repairs booting from both the OS X Panther disc and TechTool Deluxe. Although recommended, I can't create a TEST User because System Prefs won't launch, can't repair permissions from the problematic drive because Disk Utility won't launch, and I can't clear out caches because Cocktail won't launch.
I made sure the Application Support Folder in my Home Library had read/write permissions for me and applied to all enclosing folders as suggested. I tried trashing the com.apple.ActivityMonitor.plist preference in my Home Library also as suggested. However, it wouldn't allow me to remove the Launch Services file in the Caches folder of the main Library Folder as I also read here in the discussions.
Aside from successfully running disc repairs from the startup disc and TechTool, I tried repairing permissions from the startup CD as well (since couldn't launch any apps like Disk Utility from regular startup drive). Every time I try to repair in this manner though, after a minute it tells me "Disk Utility lost connection with Disk Managment" and I must quit and relaunch Disk Utility. However, same thing happens when I do, for both my drives running copies of OS X 10.3.9.
Only thing I can think of is to do an Archive/Reinstall of one of the two OS X systems on two different drives. But does anyone else have a clue what is causing this or what I need to try??? I read similar stories on here but nothing will all these symptoms at once.
I would REALLY appreciate some input, thanks!!!
PowerMac G4/500 MHz (1 GB); iBook G4/1.33 GHz (1.5 GB)   Mac OS X (10.4.3)   (still using 10.3.9 Panther on PowerMac)

    Menu Bar Problems ..........
Check the following link for OS X troubleshooting steps. When doing so, following all steps in the order provided:
    http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/repairprocess.html
1 If resetting permissions doesn't help, you may have a corrupt preference file... Delete....
    Delete ~/Library/Caches (folder)
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systemuiserver.plist
    ~/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.systemuiserver.xxx.plist
where 'xxx' is a 12 digit (hexadecimal) numeric string
    • Then log out and back in again. You may need to go to System Preferences to put back the menu items you need to display.
    • Removing systemuiserver.plist will cause the right half of the menubar back
    its original pristine default state.
    2. Check Preferences Thoroughly;
    - Navigate to ~/Library and drag the "Preferences" folder to the desktop.
    - Restart and test your applications.
    • If this does not work, move the "Preferece" folder back to ~/Library
    • If this works, delete the old preferences folder. (You'll have to go through some of your System Preferences and apps to set the preferences back to how you like them).
    3. Navigate to ~/Library and drag the "Fonts" folder to the desktop.
    - Restart and test your applications.
    - If they work start adding the fonts back few at a time.
( A likely suspect is Time RO, also if you do not use Classic you can trash the classic fonts.)
    4. Check Permissions Inside Home Folder
    - Navigate to ~/Library.
    - Get Info (Command + i) on the "Applications Support" folder.
    - Open the "Ownership & permissions" flippy triangle.
    - Make sure you are the owner, with "read and write" access.
    - Click on "apply to all"
    - If this is correct, open the "Applications Support" folder and do the same procedure (Command+I) for the folders with the names of the applications you are having trouble with.
Note...The reason to check this is because repairing permissions with Disk Utility doesn't touch permissions inside your home folder.
    • Create a new User.... go to System Preferences/ Accounts and click on "+" at bottom left of window..... and test the apps in this new account if they work the problem is isolated to your User
    (~ means your home directory)

I have uninstalled and re-installed Xcelsius with the same results.
Also, when I open Crystal Reports 2008, the "Crystal Reports 2008 SP1 - Software Manager" opens and shows an update available - SP2. When I try to install the update, it downloads and then displays a message the this update is only available for Crystal Reports 2008 SP1. I believe that is my current version.
After some research, I believe my CR Runtime app may be a different version than what Xcelsius.exe is expecting, but I don't know how to check or fix that. Any help is appreciated.

    Hi
I think I've managed to fix this error. I compared the TreeBtnExtDll.dll in my Xcelsius directory on the machine that wasn't working and one that was and found that the broken machine was using an older and smaller version of TreeBtnExtDll.dll. 89k and a date in 2008 I think. So I copied my newer version which was 109 k and dated 11/2009 into the C:\Program Files\Business Objects\Xcelsius directory of the broken machines and now xcelsius appears to be working fine.
I had lots of trouble installing the SP3 release because of the media issues so maybe the install wasn't complete.
Anyway, I hope this helps you
