Management IP Pool

Hello,
I was wondering if someone can explain (as you can see in the attached pic) why IP's in the Management IP Pool have been assigned twice to the same blade...... I have a pool of 18 IP's and they are all assigned. The other chassis will be connected soon...
Thanks

Abi is spot on.
HX, you're either using Pooled Management Address at the service profile or the bound parent service profile template level.
Each blade is assigned a CIMC address as soon as its discovered in a UCS domain.  This IP stays static with the blade regardless of any provide associated to it.
The Management IP you can opt to set in the Service Profile is a secondary management IP that will also be assigned to the CIMC however, this one will follow the Service Profile to any blade its associated to.  The main use case for this is WoL (Wake on LAN) and Power Related operations such as VMware DPM (Distributed Power Management).  DPM allows vCenter to shut down unneeded ESX hosts, and then wake them when resources are required.   Since the DPM/WoL IP must definately belong to the correct host, we need to ensure it follows the service profile and not just point to the blade  - since service profiles can be moved to different blades.

Robert

  • Managing deployment pools is a hassle.  Any tips? (and feature suggestions)

    Hi, we currently have 20 device licenses for Adobe Creative Cloud.    I manage the installation of CC and the license assignment.
    Our desktop computers are managed by a different department.  Occasionally a computer will get repurposed and an employee will get a new computer.  The original computer may not get wiped and unlicensed (as far as Adobe is concerned) and our software deployment server reinstalls CC on the employee's new computer thus putting us over the limit.
    I don't find out about this usually until one of the 20 employees calls me to tell me that their Adobe CC has reverted to a trial version.
    I have to login to the Adobe Creative Cloud Admin page and determine which computer should be unlicensed. Our computers have their File Sharing names set to something a bit cryptic (contains part of the serial number) and I can't change this because it's controlled by our Desktop Support department.  I have created an Excel doc to track licenses but every time this happens I have to go through each one and compare it to my list.  It's a hassle and time consuming.   I can't imagine managing this with many more computers, and we're in the process of acquiring more device licenses for a different sub department.
    How do other admins manage this?  What does Adobe expect us to do about this?  What is the 'best practice'?
    Unless I'm missing something, Adobe could at least make some changes to the CC Admin page to make it easier to manage.
    -  Adobe should alert the license administrator that the limit was exceeded so I don't have to wait for an employee to call me.
    -  Add a way to add notes to devices within the deployment pool page.  It shows "Device Name" and "status" only.  Add another column or two so I can add my own notes for things like employee/computer/dept name.

    Hi Chris,
    Create a license file Creative Cloud Help | Create license file with device license and run RemoveVolumeSerialzation before rolling out a new installation.
    This should fix the issue.
    Thanks,
    Ashish

  • Talent Management successor pool reporting in BI 7.05?

    Weu2019ve implemented Talent Management with EHP5 and are now working to implement BW reporting for Talent Management (PA-TM) with BI content 7.05. We have not implemented Nakisa.
    For Succession planning, within the data source 0PA_TMC_2, it appears that this extractor doesnu2019t have logic to allow reporting for successor pools.  Weu2019ve assigned employees (central persons) in a successor pool assigned to a job family, but havenu2019t found a where these successor pools are reportable with the BI reporting.
    There does exist logic within datasource 0PA_TMC_11 New Position Assignments which has logic for new position assignments to check whether the position holder was in a successor pool for any/the position(s) filled.
    Does anyone know of a way to create reporting detailing central persons who are assigned to a successor pool within the delivered Talent Mgmt BI 7.05 content or is this something that SAP didnu2019t account for when building the reporting structures?
    Thank you,
    Becky Zick

    Hi Becky,
    You are quite correct that Successor Pools are not looked at and this is disappointing from my perspective. I don't know if you've read the SAP Help page on the analytics, but it is worth looking through:
    [http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/en/49/c6e2da211149e2b40a7fa3c874d1da/frameset.htm]
    I'm afraid I can't help with expanding the extractors, but hopefully someone else can. You might even need to raise the thread in the BW/BI forum if you get no answers after a couple of days.

    Is the Enterprise Manager feature that manages / displays statistics for the application module pooling performance available for Tomcat?

  • How does failover and load distribution work in Operations Manager resource pools?

    Hello everyone,
    I have a couple of questions in regard to failover and load distribution in resource pools.
    What is the criteria for an x-plat or network device to initiate a failover?
    How is load distributed in a resource pool - Is it round-robin, performance based or something completely different?
    In case more than two management servers are in the same pool, and a management server becomes unavailable, how is load distributed among the remaining resource pool members?
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thx,
    Claus

    Hi,
    Resource Pools are a collection of Health Services working together to manage instances assigned to the pool.
    Workflows targeted to the instances are loaded by the Health Service in the Resource Pool that ends up managing that instance.
    If one of the Health Services in the Resource pool were to fail, the other Health Services in the pool will pick up the work that the failed member was running.
    And I would like to share this article with you. Hope it helps.

    I have experienced the same issue. Here is a way to workaround to solve it:
    1. login to OVM manager host as oracle user
    2. Set the propler environment to login to the OVM reporistory database. for exampl in Unix/Linux
    export ORACLE_HOME='/usr/lib/oracle/xe/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/server'
    export PATH=$ORACLE_HOME/bin:$PATH
    export ORACLE_SID=XE
    3. Login to the repository database as ovs user:
    sqlplus ovs/<passsword>
    and run the following SQLs:
    update ovs_server set status = 'Active' where SERVER_NAME = '<OVS serverhostname.domain.com>';
    commitl;
    4. Go to OVM manager and cllick the refresh button on the servers page. The status of the OVS server will be changed to 'Active'
    and you can power on the VM.

  • Cisco UCS Blade Server Management IP Pool Question

    All,
    I am wanting/needing to connect to the blade server CIMC through an inband IP connection, and have created a pool for that, and a VLAN group and made all the necessary changes, and can KVM to the server, so everything is working right, but what is happening is that when I associate the SP to the blade, the blade is coming up with two IP's assigned both for inband and for outband. My SP specifically states to use the pool for inband and 'none' for outband. Does anyone know why the blade is getting two IP's assigned for both inband and outband?
    Any help would be appreciated...thanks.

    Hi Walter,
    Thanks for the your time...& info...
    What is the best recommended possible way ?
    Even with the possible failover scenario i explained ...I don't think so that is also a full pledge one.
    For example...If i am running the Esxi 5.5 of enterprise edition is running on one of the blades...the vswitch configuration of each blade would be different?
    LUN cloning to the spare blade is mandate right ? then only i can move the particular blade & its profile on to spare blade along with OS ?
    I hope there are alot of limitations with this failover point ? I hope UCS won't give full redundancy?
    Please advise ?

  • How to start virtual OVM Manager and restore server pool which hosts it?

    It had to happen... the day I migrate our OVM Manager from an ESX host into an Oracle VM, we have a massive NetApp outage, and everything fails to come back. As a result of having lock errors when trying to start any VMs I noted on the forum various solutions and ended up following the steps concerning stopping ovs-agent and removal of /etc/ovs-agent/db/* on all the servers. Next I re-added the repo to all the servers using repos.py, but of course now none of the servers are in a pool so the --list command shows them as [R] rather than [*], and the /OVS directory is not yet mapped. So the next stage, according to the instructions which I am following, describes using the 'Restore' option in the OVM Manager GUI. Given that /OVS is not mounted and all of the servers are now config-less, I can't see how I can start the OVM Manager VM to get to the aforementioned "restore" option...
    Thank Jeebus I kept the ESX copy of OVM manager on (but powered down), as I was able to fire it up and do the restore, and now everything is hunky dory. However, this is our Dev platform and I was going to build the Prod platform and deploy OVM Manager straight into the OVM architecture via the template, rather than having it on ESX, but this issue on the Dev install has made me think twice about the mobius nature of managing the VM architecture from within the VM architecture...
    I am assuming I am missing some sort of commandline knowledge, so... given:
    - empty db directory
    - root repos [R] on all servers
    - as yet unmapped /OVS
    ...how to get the server pool up and get something back into /OVS, and then start my OVM Manager VM so I can 'restore'? Is it even possible? because if it isn't, I'll be blowed if the Prod OVM manager is going to get deployed like this...
    And no, there's no money in the budget for extra tin just to sit there running the OVM Manager and nothing else.
    TIA
    Kev

    user12474530 wrote:
    Still nobody seems to know of how to create a server pool on the CLI (outside of OVM Manager) though...There is no way to create a server pool on the CLI without Oracle VM Manager. You either need to use the Web UI of the Manager, or use the ovmcli command-line tool. Both of those require Oracle VM Manager to be running.
    However, once the Pool is created, you do not need the Manager to be running to perform simple tasks like starting/stopping guests. That can be done with the xm command-line tool.
    I agree with you about running VM Manager as a guest of the Oracle VM Server: I actually don't recommend this in production, unless you have at least two Server Pools. Then you can have the Manager of Pool A hosted by Pool B and vice-versa. Most often however, I recommend a completely independent Manager machine, either physical or hosted on a separate virtualization stack.

  • Which is Best way to pool DB connections on Server no-J2EE???

    I have a applicatio, which run on very different app servers (WebSpere, JRun and i-Planet)... the db conncetion problems existe whit server no-J2EE compliant, like as i-Planet.
    On J2EE servers I cant use Server DataSource to pooled connection, and server make this work transparently and good.
    But, if have to manually manage to pool connection, which is the best way?
    Befor use Poolman package... by CodeStudio, but is not effective for me...
    Now, are studying the Jackarta-Commons DBCP...
    Which is the best ?... there is other solution for this problem ?.
    thx !

    App in I'm work, make exhaustive use of db connection,
    only on startup, use a average of 130 connection
    request on less 10 secconds.
    All connection requested, when finish to use, there
    are closed, supposeddly, the closed connction are
    returned to pool, but this no happend it quickl, How do you know it doesn't happen quickly?
    Normally a returned connection would just be inserted into a list with a possible state change. That would be very quick in java. It might check the state of the connection and that is going to take longer Another pool manager might do the same though.
    then,
    if pool is able to create emmergency connections (up
    num max) always returned new connection, any one
    else, if pool can't create emmergency connection
    objects, app wait for free connection of pool... long
    delay !Of course, but any pool is going to do that.

  • How to use JDBC Connection Pools in a standalone application?

    Hi, there,
    I have a question about how to use JDBC Connection Pools in an application. I know well about connection pool itself, but I am not quite sure how to keep the pool management object alive all the time to avoid being destroyed by garbage collection.
    for example, at the website: http://www.developer.com/java/other/article.php/626291, there is a simple connection pool implementation. there are three classes:JDBCConnection, the application's gateway to the database; JDBCConnectionImpl, the real class/object to provide connection; and JDBCPool, the management class to manage connection pool composed by JDBCConnectionImpl. JDBCPool is designed by Singleton pattern to make sure only one instance. supposing there is only one client to use connection for many times, I guess it's ok because this client first needs instantiate JDBCPool and JDBCConnectionImpl and then will hold the reference to JDBCPool all the time. but how about many clients want to use this JDBCPool? supposing client1 finishes using JDBCPool and quits, then JDBCPool will be destroyed by garbage collection since there is no reference to it, also all the connections of JDBCConnectionImpl in this pool will be destroyed too. that means the next client needs recreate pool and connections! so my question is that if there is a way to keep pool management instance alive all the time to provide connection to any client at any time. I guess maybe I can set the pool management class as daemon thread to solve this problem, but I am not quite sure. besides, there is some other problems about daemon thread, for example, how to make sure there is only one daemon instance? how to quit it gracefully? because once the whole application quits, the daemon thread also quits by force. in that case, all the connections in the pool won't get chance to close.
    I know there is another solution by JNDI if we develop servlet application. Tomcat provides an easy way to setup JNDI database pooling source that is available to JSP and Servlet. but how about a standalone application? I mean there is no JNDI service provider. it seems a good solution to combine Commons DBCP with JNID or Apache's Naming (http://jakarta.apache.org/commons/dbcp/index.html). but still, I don't know how to keep pool management instance alive all the time. once we create a JNDI enviroment or naming, if it will save in the memory automatically all the time? or we must implement it as a daemon thread?
    any hint will be great apprieciated!
    Sam

    To my knoledge the pool management instance stays alive as long as the pool is alive. What you have to figure out is how to keep a reference to it if you need to later access it.

  • How dynamically create connection pool and Datasource

    Hi
    How I can dynamically create a connection pool and Data source in Oracle 10g Application server. In our J2EE application the user will be login with db user name, password and database name. I want to create connection pool and data source on the fly while login the user with database name. I our application we have access approximate 80 Databases. so my approach is given bellow
    1) Planning to create 80 connection pools and 80 Data sources so when user logs in while selecting the db name i will call the appropriate data source and create the DB connection. Is there any limitation to create number of data sources in oracle app server?
    2) Create DB connection with out using connection pool and data source. But i am not prefer this approach coz we need to handle some transaction in our application.
    Kindly throw some light on managing connection pool programmatically or in application run time.
    I would really appreciate if any one can provide any links or any inormation on this issue.
    Thanks in advance.

    Kindly let me know is there any drawbacks to create 80 Data Sources to connect 80 database in Oracle 10G App server and each data sources should have one connection pool. so i need to create 80 connection pool. Please let me know is this right approach or any work around to create Data source on fly for each request for corresponding database.

  • 903/902/BC4J can't get data-sources.xml conn pooling to work in production; help

    I have several BC4J ears deployed to a 903 instance of OC4J being configured as a standalone
    instance. I've had this problem since I started deploying in development on 902. So it's
    some basic problem that I've not mastered.
    I can't get data-sources.xml managed connection pooling to actually pool conn's. I'm wanting
    to declare my jndi jdbc source connection pool in j2ee/home/config/data-sources.xml.
    Have all BC4J apps get conns from this JNDI JDBC pool. I've removed all data-sources.xml from my BC4J ears,
    and published the jndi jdbc source in my oc4j common data-sources.xml. I've tested that this is
    the place controlling the conn URL/login passwd by commenting it out of config/data-sources.xml
    and my BC4J apps then throw exceptions, can't get conn.
    I've set the oc4j startup cmd line with the BC4J property to enabled connection pooling:
    -Djbo.doconnectionpooling=true
    symptom
    Connections are created and closed. Instead of being put back into the pool managed by oc4j,
    what ever BC4J is doing or my data-sources.xml is doing, the connections are just being created and
    closed.
    I can verify this via (solaris) lsof and netstat, where I see my oc4j instance under test load
    with only 1 or 2 conns to the db box, and the ephemeral port is tumbling, meaning a new socket is
    being opened for each conn. ;( grrrrrrr
    Does anyone have a clue as to why this is happening?
    Thanks, curt
    my data-sources.xml
    <data-sources>
         <data-source
            class="com.evermind.sql.DriverManagerDataSource"
            connection-driver="oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver"
            ejb-location="jdbc/DEVDS"
            location="jdbc/DEVCoreDS"
            name="DEVDS"
            password="j2train"
            pooled-location="jdbc/DEVPooledDS"
            url="jdbc:oracle:thin:@10.2.1.30:1521:GDOC"
            username="jscribe"
            xa-location="jdbc/xa/DEVXADS"
            inactivity-timeout="300"
            max-connections="50"
            min-connections="40"
        />
    </data-sources>

    I've run another test using local data-source.xml, that's packaged in the .ear. Still
    pooling under BC4J doesn't work??
    A piece of info is that the 903 oc4j release notes states that global conn pooling doesn't
    work. Infering that the j2ee/home/config/data-sources.xml data sources aren't pooled or ??
    I just tested so called local connection pooling, where I edited the data-sources.xml that
    gets packaged in the ear, to include the min/max params and re-ran my test.
    Still, the AM creates a new conn, it's to a new socket, and closes the conn when done. Causing
    each conn to not be pooled, rather opened then closed to the DB box. As verified with lsof and
    netstat, checking the ephemeral port # on the DB box side, always changes, meaning it's a
    new socket and not an old pooled conn socket.
    ???? What the heck??
    Surely if the AM conn check out / return code works properly, OC4J's pooling JDBC driver would
    pool and not close the socket??
    Has anywone gotten JDBC Datasource connections in BC4J to actually be pooled under OC4J??
    Since I couldn't get this to work in my early 902 oc4j testing, and now can't get it to work
    still under 903 OC4J, either it's my config or BC4J AM's code or OC4J?
    Any thoughts on how to figure out what's not configed correctly or has a bug?
    Thanks, curt
