Management of songs on my iPod

I re-install Windows on My computer and all my songs was deleted cause an error. I think I could use my iPod as a HD and copy all songs in it on my new PC, but I'm not able to do.
Someone could help me?

Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
You can also use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows with iTunes 7 installed hold down the Control and Alt keys (or Shift + Ctrl keys in older versions). This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer: iTunes 7 Keyboard Shortcuts for Windows
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTMS purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of non iTMS content such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows. The procedure is a bit involved also it was written long before iTunes 7 so it requires a little adaptation as the iPod preferences are no longer in the location described. Also it won't transfer playlists or videos as far as I know. However if you're interested it's posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can also read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
TuneJack Windows Only
iPod2PC Windows Only
iGadget Windows Only
iDump Windows Only
YamiPod Mac and Windows Versions
Music Rescue Mac & Windows
iPodCopy Mac and Windows Versions
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up in case you have problems again. Relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • Please HELP.! I connect my iPOD to PC BUT.. i cannot manage my songs??

Hello.. I restored my iPOD and reinstalled iTunes.. however everytime i connect my iPod the my PC i am unable to manage my songs on the iPOD??? and at the very bottem there is a padlock icon?? how do i take this off?? and no. the hold button is not on ..
    thanksssss a million

A lock symbol at the bottom of the screen and grey text when you look at the content and would indicate that your iPod has been re-set to the default "automatically update songs and playlists". If you want to access your iPod directly you just need to change the update method back to "Manually manage songs and Playlists" in iTunes Edit>Preferences>iPod.

  • How Do View My Songs On My iPod in iTunes?

I'm trying to manage my songs on my iPod, but can't see my playlist or any of my music on my iPod in the new iTunes version.
I see the Ipod icon in the upper righthand corner that shows that its connected and when I click on that, it takes me to the to the "summary" "music", etc screen.
The only time I see my playlist is when I drag a song to add to the iPod and the drop-down menu appears. Yet I still don't see the songs in the playlists
In the old version, I could see the music on my devices in the menu on the right, and add/delete quickly and easily, but on this version I can't seem to figure it out.
Please help. I'm hoping its something simple that I'm not doing, because its kind of frustrating.
    Thanks in advance

  • When I try to transfer songs to my ipod touch or my friends ipod nano in which both have manually managed music, I get error 13019 "Ipod cannot be synced".  This problem started to occur all of a sudden. Any ideas other than the resyncing?

When I try to transfer songs to my ipod touch or my friends ipod nano, I get error 13019 "Ipod cannot be synced".  Everything was working fine and transferring successfully and then this problem started to occur all of a sudden. My music is managed manually and always has. I looked online for a solution and they all involve resyncing the library and unchecking voice memos. Is there a way to resolve this issue without having to resync my music or reinstall itunes?

Have you powered off and then back on the router?
Have you done anything to the router recently like changed a setting?
    Have you tried:
    - Resetting the iPod. Nothing will be lost.
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Resetting network settings: Settings>GeneralReset>Reset Network SettingsTo me the error sounds like a network/router problem vice aan iPod problem.

  • Itunes library doesn't see all the songs on my ipod

i manage my music manually as i have more disc space on my ipod than on my hard drive. so i just add stuff to my ipod one album at a time as i get it.
fast forward to me wanting to make a mix cd of the stuff on my ipod, and since i can't get any of the songs off my ipod through itunes i just used yamipod to move them back to my computer to burn to a cd. problem now is that all the music i've added since upgrading to the new itunes isn't showing up on my ipod, yet the space is still gone. when i use windows to search for the music, it shows up and will play in windows media player, but the ipod seems to think these songs are gone.
is there any way to get it to "see" these songs? or does itunes JUST look at the db file ONLY?
    TIA!!

First off, I would STRONGLY suggest that a external hard drive would make you life much easier by at least being able to back up your songs on the external drive for when you need them. Even if you don't want them in the iTunes library, you can have them all ready on the external to be re-added as needed. You can get 100's of gigs for under $100 shipped.
Anyway, since you used Yamipod, are all the songs back on the computer? If so, I would go ahead and restore the iPod, let iTunes then resync everything back to the iPod, then switch it back to manual and see if the restore and resync clears up the issue.

  • I am unable to put new songs on my ipod

I am unable to put new songs on my ipod. When I put new songs into my itunes, i see them just fine. I go to sync my ipod and it says "sync is complete" within seconds, so I know nothing has been synced. New playlists are also not showing up. Many of my default playlists show up multiple times(90s music, recently played, etc). I have the 30 gig ipod with video. There are about 20 gigs on it. Thanks.

ok the manually manage music box was checked, I don't know how. That seemed to help. As long as I have you here perhaps you can help me with another problem that happens from time to time. My ipod likes to fall asleep when I'm syncing it. It goes to the apple icon on the ipod, stops syncing, and then starts back up again. The problem seems to go away when I restart the computer and/or itunes. I'll occassionally get an error message that says "the ipod "mullen's ipod can be synced. The required file cannot be found." Then I get the message at the top of the screen that says sync complete. In some cases it actually is synced! Any thoughts?

  • Bought 5 new songs on itunes. ipod syncs but songs do not show up on any playlist

Bought 5 new songs on itunes . ipod syncs but the new songs don't show up on the play list that is on the ipod . the do appear on itunes library. what am i doing wrong ?

Was the iPod previous synced to another iTunes library/computer?
Have you successfully synced from this iTunes library/computer before?
If so have you done anything like update iTunes on the computer since it last successfully synced?

Does any media now sync to the iPod?

  • Songs copy to IPOD but do not show up in Menu?

Hi i was wondering if anyone could help me with this or heard about this before,
I am managing to copy songs to my IPOD via itunes, however when i turn it on the songs are not there, however under playlists there is a blank playlist with nothing in it?? When i plug the ipod back in the songs show up in itunes as being on the IPOD.?
    Any Ideas
    Thanks

Sounds like ipods DB file is corrupt, try resetting it by holding the center and menu button for 6 to 10 seconds.
If that doesn't work you need to restore it with the latest ipod updater. Restoring will wipe it clean so make sure all songs on it are on the PC before doing this. More about restore can be read here http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60983

  • Can you keep extra songs on your iPod that are not in your iTunes library, and not lose these songs every time you want to delete something from your iPod in the future?

I have all these songs that I want to store on my iPod but not on my computer, and I know that by choosing to manually manage my music I can still hang on to these songs when I add new songs to my iPod.  However, what if I want to delete songs off of my iPod in the future?  Will I lose all of the extra music that is on my iPod but not my computer, due to the fact that the only way to delete songs seems to be by syncing?

The answer to the question in the title of the thread is yes, but it is not necessarily a good idea. At some point you are likely to find you need to restore your iPod for one reason or another, or it could be lost, stolen or damaged. If your songs aren't on your computer, and backed up too, then you will be less than happy.

one of the problems may be that the original files may have been moved.
before you do anything, open itunes, then click on the ipod icon on the left side of the screen. there should be 4 check boxes. make sure the "manually manage music" check box is filled in
for one thing, try finding the folder where all of your music is stored.
then, click and drag the music into itunes, or onto your ipod.

    I have a 2nd generation Ipod.
I have it connected to my computer and see (my name) ipod on my screen.
Everytime I try to add a new song to the Ipod, this message comes up and I am not sure what to do:
The Ipod, (my name) is synced with another ITunes library on A74F65. Do you want to erase this Ipod and sync with this ITunes Library?
An Ipod can be synced with only one ITunes library at a time.  Erasing and syncing replaces the contents of this IPod with the contents of this ITunes library.
Then it asks me if I want to delete and sync.
I am not sure what to do for fear of erasing everything I have put on my Ipod.
I would appreciate if someone could help me out.

If I understand you correctly, you are trying to use iTunes to play the Music in your iPod but which is not in your itunes library. I don't think Apple design iTunes for use in your way. As to put and play music in iPod, the music has to be in iTunes first, so you play music in the iTunes music Library. the window with Ipod music is just to show you which music are already in the Ipod, in case you want to Manually Manage your huge music library.
Here is the iPod/iTunes manual from the Apple Support Site.

  • How did songs from another ipod move to my ipod

we have multiple user accounts on windows xp pc. itunes was open on a different user name when I plugged in my ipod. since you can only have itunes open on one user name at a time, I couldn't open itunes. I went to the other user name to close that itunes; my ipod was open in itunes on that screen since I had plugged mine in; I saw another one of our ipod's name also shown as connected, even though there wasn't another connected; I disconnected, and when I went to my user name, my ipod had all of that other ipod's songs on it and itunes even showed my ipod name as being the other one. anyone know how this happened and if I can get my songs back?

Before you do anything else, you should change the drive letter associated with your iPod.
Click on control panel/admin tools/computer management/disk management/right click on the iPod to re-assign the drive letter.
Choose something lower down the alphabet, say 'M' or something similar.
The iPod can be confused by any other storage devices assigned a similar drive letter even though they may not connected at the same time. Hence the different iPod showing up when you connected yours.
Once you've sorted out this confusion, you can sync your iPod with your library to reload the songs.

  • How do you (or can you) play songs from your ipod on itunes?

Im trying to play my the songs on my iPod with itunes that I just installed on my friends laptop. The problem is, the place where it says Charles's (me) Laptop, the songs are all grayed out and I cant select any of them.

Grey text when you look at the content and lock symbol at the bottom of the screen simply shows that your iPod is set to "automatically update songs and playlists". If you want to access your iPod directly, play it through your iTunes, connect it to a second computer etc. you just need to change the update method to "Manually manage songs and Playlists" in the iPod preferences. Check out the links below and make the change on your own computer before you connect it to the second one:
    Using iPod with Multiple computers
    Managing Your Songs Manually
    Some additional info: iPod 101
The iPod offers three ways to transfer music from your computer. You can select one of the following update modes from the iPod Preferences menu in iTunes (Edit=>Preferences=>'iPod' tab):
    1) Automatically update all songs and playlists. This is the default mode, in which your entire music library, including playlists, is automatically synced to your iPod. If the music library on your computer exceeds the iPod storage capacity, you are prompted to select a different update method.
    2) Automatically update selected playlists only. With this option, iTunes automatically copies the playlists you have selected to the iPod when you connect it to the computer.
    3) Manually manage songs and playlists. You can also choose to transfer music to the iPod manually. This allows you to drag and drop individual songs and playlists from iTunes to the iPod.

  • How can I get the songs from my iPod on to my new iTunes library?!! Help!!

So I've looked on all the support pages but I've got a feeling there is nothing that can be done with this, hopefully someone can help!
We moved to the US and while our computer was being sent over it got water damaged so I lost all of my itunes library. And I didnt back it up properly. So I want to know if there is anyway to transfer all the songs from my ipod onto our new itunes library, or if i can somehow get my ipod songs on to disc and then import them?? I really don't want to lose all my songs, so if anyone can help I'd be very grateful!!

Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you use our iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone

There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. • I just got a new Macbook Pro, plugged my iPod into it and lost all my songs on my iPod.  How do I get them back?

I just got a new MacBook Pro, plugged my iPod into it and noticed all my songs didn't transfer, including the 6 new ones I just purchased.  I then brought it back to my PC to sync, and lost all my songs on my iPod.  I'm now receiving all kinds of weird messages that the name of my iPod is a duplicate and cannot be synced (no matter what I put in it).  During the process of loading it on my Mac., a bunch of odd emails were popping up to sync.  I just kept deleting and adding mine.  Is it corrupted? What have I done??? I am a personal trainer and live by my iPod.  Please help.

Your post is abit confusing, especially on getting those weird messages and emails,( assumed in your Windows machine.)
Most likely you have Restored the iPod using the new Macbook pro, using the same name as that in your Windows machine, hence the duplicate name warning, as it is trying to sync Automatically.
If you are syncing your iPod to both the Mac and Windows, you must set it to Manually Manage Music, in the first machine that you setup iTunes with the iPod. Read thsi Apple Support Article
In iTunes, Preference, tick on Prevent devices syncing automatically
Hopefully your music are still in both your iTunes library,
Connect the iPod to the Mac
Restore it (just to fix any filesystem corruption by the Windows end)
Set it to Manually Manage Music
Sync your selected songs in your library.
    Whern sync complete, Eject it
Connect it to your Windows PC.
Select the song in the library
    Sync it.
It should work if your ipod Hardisk is not giving any problem.
    Good luck!
