I have managed to get TACACS+ working for the WLC and WCS but having trouble with Radius for management authentication and authorization.
Anyone got and ideas or good documents on how to authenticate administrators using radius ACS 5.1 for WLC 5508 and WCS 6
I take it that I still need to define roles?
    Many thanks.

You may try this with radius-ietf under shell-privelege
For read-write privileges for the user, set the Service-Type Attribute to Administrative.
For read-only privileges for the user, set the Service-Type Attribute to NAS-Prompt.

  • Resetting WLC password through WCS

    Hi,
Can someone please provide me with the steps to follow to reset the WLC credentials using WCS.
    Best Regards,

Is there a reason you want to change the password from the WCS and not from the WLC? If you are locked out, here is a good link from George's blog
    http://www.my80211.com/home/2009/12/27/recover-your-wlc-password.html
I tend to add another management user from the WLC or WCS and then you delete the old username and create it again with the new password.

    Hi AndrewHISC
We would need to cancel one of the subscriptions and then you could sign up again using another ID.
Let me know if you wish to proceed with this.

should I set up a different apple account for each child?  if so, how do I manage itunes money between two kids?

    Hello staatsfamily,
Having a separate Apple ID for each child will allow each child to keep their purchases and iCloud information separate.  It will also allow you to provide an iTunes Store Allowance for each child:
With iTunes Allowance, you can send a monthly iTunes Store credit to anyone with an iTunes Store account. It's a great way for parents to manage their children's spending on the iTunes Store, App Store, and iBooks Store.
Once you have created an Apple ID for each child, you can provide an iTunes Store allowance to each Apple ID. The following article will guide you in how to set this up:

  • Vlan management with WLC and WCS

I'd like to know if it is possible to use the same vlan for the management of the WCS and for configuring a wlan?
I try to make this lab and when I declare a dynamic interface that is in the same subnet as the WCS ip address, the reliability between controler and WCS is lost.

I know that I should not put servers on the same vlan as wireless client but I just want to know if it is possible or if Cisco implemented something to avoid this to understand why my lab didn't work with this configuration.
    Thanks

  • Lost and configuration management in WLC

The administration of WLC is lost and we feel the need to boot the WLC to recover the administration once made the reload the WLC loses all the mac-address filter, passwords, and users of visits created in the captive portal

The controller does not have a password recovery mechanism. If you use WCS to manage the controller,
you should be able to access the controller from WCS and create a new admin user without logging into
the controller itself. If you have not saved the configuration on the controller after deleting the user, then
rebooting (power cycling) the controller should bring it back up with the deleted user still in the system.
If you do not have the default admin account or another user account with which you can log in, your
only option is to default the controller to factory settings and reconfigure it from scratch or reload the
previously saved configuration.(You have to have access
through the console port, reboot the controller, and break into the bootloader as the system
    boots up.
The system then gives you five options. Select 5. Clear Configuration first. This is the only
option that resets the password, which means you need to reconfigure the rest of the box
again. Then, select 1. Run primary image to boot up the
    system again.)

  • WLC unreachable from WCS -

I have a WLC2000 that was reporting in to WCS but as of 2 weeks ago WCS sees it as unreachable although it is up and connectivity exists between the two?? I was planning on deleting the WLC and attempting to add it back to WCS but am curious as to if anybody had issues with similar issues?

Nah, It's just a problem that Airespace had and subsequently Cisco inherited. The WCS receives updates from the controller databases on a regularly scheduled basis. For whatever reason, everytime we get a new code version, it takes the WCS a while to learn where the controller is and what changes have been made to its database entries. You can usually manually force this by doing a manual refresh of config from the controller in the WCS commands section. If that doesn't work, you have to reboot the controller and it will come back and you can re-add it to the list of controllers IF it still shows as unreachable.

  • Migrating WLC from existing WCS to another WCS

    Dear tecahers:
We support a campus with 8 WLC with 600 APs managed by our own WCS.
Recently we are going to support a new site. They have 4 WLC with about 250 APs managed by another WCS.
What we want to do is migrate 4 WLC with 250 APs from their WCS to our own WCS, thus we can use our own WCS to manage all the WLC and APs.
My question is How can we migrate these 4 WLC from the existing WCS to our own WCS with the configuration and maps?
Any help would be really appreciated.
    Regards,
    Steven

Do you have enough licenses on the new WCS for the additional access points you plan to add ? As for migration, I recall there arent any migration tools from wcs to wcs. I recall there being tools for WLSE to WCS. Depending on how many maps you have, it shouldnt take all that long to import maps and place aps.

  • WLC code upgrade, WCS, ap_3600

i'm going to upgrade a 5508 wlc code from
    7.0.116.0
    to
    7.1.91.0
to add 3600 series access points having it all manageable via WCS ver 7.0.230.0
it seems to be possible, as it is explained in the compatibility matrix found on
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/controller/5500/tech_notes/Wireless_Software_Compatibility_Matrix.html
now I have to download the file to the controller...
    AIR-CT5500-K9-SPECIAL-7-1-91-0.aes
    (direct update possible)
before doing that I'd like to know if I will loose my configuration on the controller
i'm concerned about that because the release document is not clear:
    - We highly recommend that you back up your controller's configuration files prior to upgrading the controller software. Otherwise, you must manually reconfigure the controller.
    - For busy networks, controllers on high utilization, or small controller platforms it is advisable to disable the 802.11a/b/g networks as a precautionary measure.
    - Step 5 Disable any WLANs on the controller.
    - Step 19 Re-enable the WLANs......
    - Step 22 If desired, reload your latest configuration file to the controller. (reload config after reenabling wlans????? why???)
so will I loose my configuration?
what is Field Upgrade Software? should i use that instead?
another controller  another question .....: a cisco wlc 2100
    found 2 update files
    AIR-WLC2100-K9-7-0-230-0-ER.aes
    AIR-WLC2100-K9-7-0-230-0.aes
why 2 update files this time? what file to update first?
thank you in advance for your answers

The 5508 has two files when you go to 7.2, which I would for the 3600.  You'll also want to download and install the FUS image.
the 'legacy' WLC, like the 2100, have the .aes which is the OS for the WLC.  The -ER is an Emergency Recovery image, it's waht you get when you break the boot cycle.

  • 2 AP Management interface WLC 5508 at the same time

    Good afternoon,
I have a customer that wants a few APs are managed by the interface of management and do join by that interface and another group of APs are managed and do join by another interface configured as "Enable Dynamic AP Management"
is a WLC 5508, i created an interface by checking the option "Enable Dynamic AP Management" but does not work, by the interface of management are recorded without problems.
Is it possible to do this? Are you supported?

I don't know I understand your question properly or not.
I think you want to join APs to management and AP manager interface at same time ?
When you want to allow APs to join on two ports 1(management) & 2 at the same time, then you have use this:
As you must be aware that only one AP manager is allowed per port. So if you leave the Management interface as an AP‐manager and just create one additional AP manager interface, you’ll allow APs to join to either port, but the Management interface will not be able to fail over since that would make two AP managers on the same interface.
    Or
Remove the AP management function from the Management interface and then create two new AP manager interfaces (one for each port).

  • Add wlc to the WCS

    Hi experts,
I want to add a second wlc 4402 in branch office(4.1.171.0) to WCS (4.1.83.0) in Headquarter. During this operation I receive this messages from wcs:
"controllers unreachable, check smnp and network for issue". I try to ping from wcs to wlc (no problem), snmp community is correct (there is another controller that use this communiny without problem). There aren't firewall between wlc and wcs. Can you suggest something?
    Regards,

Are you using the ready-only community instead of the read-write community?
Are you able to do an snmpwalk from the WCS box?
    (assuming linux with net-snmp-utils installed)
or something like getif on a windows box.
What about ACLs between the two devices?

  • Differences between a WLC, WLSE and WCS

    Quick question:
I am working on a proposal for a new WLAN infrastructure for a certain local Gov't entity.  We are going to use a Cisco WLC 5508.  I am wondering what would be appropriate for extra management capabilities... I am basically wondering if it would make sense to use a WLSE appliance...  or, is a WLSE basically a watered down Wireless LAN Controller?  I have also read that using WCS is for really large deployments...  the one I am proposing would only be 32 1142 LAPs, with one WLC...  The customer wants to know if there are software management utils, or hardware and the benefits/disadvanteges to both.  They want all these advanced reporting features...which I was told in another post that WCS is what would be required for such features.
    Thanks in advance!

    Cole
WLC = Wireless LAN Controller.  This is a Layer2 device that the AP's will join and get their configuration and code from.
WCS = Wireless Control System.  This is a server on the LAN, that uses SNMP for monitoring and templating of the WLC.
WLSE = Wireless Lan Solutions Engine.  This is used to monitor and template for Autonomous AP.
So, for what your customer is looking for, WLC 5508 would need a WCS.  WCS is were all the reporting is going to come from.
    Cheers,
    Steve
