Management packs to scom agent server ?

How SCOM agent will get Management Packs from Management server ? Will all Management Packs will get downloaded to all SCOM agent server?
Or how does Management server will come to know only required Management Packs
for agent server? (I heard Management Server  will scan the registry to of agent server to understand the application and requirement , then it sent Management Packs
for agent server , is that correct ? )

On import, a complex and expensive series of operations occur.
The MP is written to a table.
The MP is loaded by the config service and all discovery targets are examined
A list of agents is created based on whether the agent manages a type instance that is a target of a discovery in each new MP.  When this is found to be a match, the config service marks the agent config as stale in memory.
The agent periodically contacts the RMS (config service).  In the response, a "you are stale" flag is included.  THis causes the agent to ask for a resynchronization.
The agent gets a response with all of the state for every type instance being managed, as well as a list of mps and versions and indicators of whether the agents copy of these is stale.
The agent then requests any files it needs and receives them (this is expensive)
The agent then loads each MP, replacing any workflows that are necessary, and starts normal agent processing (discoveries run immediately - this is expensive).
Agent submits new discovery data.  The config service responds with data indicating what the official state of each managed instance sent in the discovery is. (this is expensive)
Each time you create an override and save it, the above is repeated. (this is why it is slow to make online overrides)

  • Exchange Server 2013 Management Pack in SCOM 2012, can not update healthset status automatically

    Hi, all
I have Exchange Server 2013 and SCOM 2012 installed. I have imported Exchange Server 2013 Management Pack to SCOM 2012. Now I have a question that when there is a service not healthy, I can find the red alert in my alert view with the Exchange 2013 server,
but after the service is healthy automatically, the red alert is still there. I can only make it become green healthy status after reseting the healthset status in the healthset explorer.
Does anyone know how to make the server become green healthy status automatically after the monitor is healthy?
    Thank you.
    Nile

    Hi,
How many Exchange Servers do you have? Does this issue only occur on one Exchange Server?
Please check the application log on the problematic Exchange server and see whether there are any related event error.

  • Running SCOM Powershell cmdlets on SCOM Agent Server

    Hello,
I have to run some SCOM cmdlets on SCOM Agent Server. But I am getting the below error.
"Get-SCOMClass : The Data Access service is either not running or not yet initilized. Check the event log for more information."
In the Agent Server, there is no "Data Access service".
Please help me in running the SCOM cmdlets on SCOM Agent Server.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Mahadevan.G

    Hi Mahadevan:
On a SCOM management server, the SDK service name is "System Center Data Access Service". If you don't see that service listed then you are not on a SCOM management server.
Not sure what you mean "SCOM Agent Server"? The SCOM cmdlets won't run on a computer with just the SCOM agent installed unless you also install the SCOM console/powershell features from the SCOM install media.
The Get-SCOMClass cmdlet (or Get-SCClass) should run on a management server with no problems. Recommend check again that you are really logged into a SCOM management server.

  • HP Managment Pack for Monitoring Gen8 Server DMS Service can be clustered or not.

    Hello ALL,
I am trying to configure HP Managment Pack for Monitoring Gen8 Server monitoring and i have encoutered very small problem but it is now a big problem for me. Currently we have deployed one server to monitoring the HP Gen8 Server
Esx monitoring. But we want to create DR Site where we want to add same devices which will help us to failover when existing server will be down or HP DMC Service is down. Any one have tried this solution please let us know in DR or cluster way.

    Hi,
If you are looking for SCOM cluster way to monitor Gen8 Server, then we can build multi management servers within the management group, or create multi management groups to monitor Gen8 server.
    More details:

  • Sealed and unsealed management pack in scom ?

    Dear all ,
What is Difference between sealed and unsealed management pack in scom?
I know like override alert can not be saved in sealed MP , is there any thing else ?
    Sengo.

    Hi,
A sealed management pack is a binary file that cannot be edited. An unsealed management pack is an XML file that can be edited. Sealed management packs should have an .mp extension, while unsealed management packs should have an .xml extension.
In general, management packs obtained from an application or hardware device vendor are sealed.
Although you cannot change the settings in a sealed management pack, you can still customize the applied settings of a management pack after it is imported by using overrides or by creating additional settings such as rules, monitors, and tasks that supersede
the management pack's default settings. All customizations that you create are saved to a separate management pack file.
Management packs can only reference another management pack if the management pack that is referenced is sealed

  • UCS management pack for SCOM

I've installed the UCS management pack for Microsoft SCOM 2007 R2. It appears to be working, however I now keep seeing all computers that have the SCOM agent installed trying to run the cisco.ucs.computer.probeaction.vbs script, which fails and generates alerts. Does anyone know why these servers that are unrelated to UCS would be trying to run these scripts, or how to fix this problem?

The Problem is that you use an “&” string in a name of one of the protection Groups.
Change the name of the protection Group where you have used an “&” symbol
. Restart the “System Center Management” and you should see that the discovery success.
If still have same issue, started to register the differtent dll’s again on the machine and apparently registering the MOMScriptAPI.dll

  • Management Packs and direct connected agents (without SCOM)

    Hi Guys,
It´s possible to install and use Management Packs (such as SharePoint Management pack) without SCOM? I mean, collect sharepoint management data using MP and send it to azure operational insights directly (using Monitoring agent only)?
    Thanks and Best Regards
    Hélio Sá Moreira
    Chief Technology Officer

No, because Operations manager MPs have discoveries of objects and monitors to calculate state and groups that need to be calculated by a management server.... all things that today OpInsights doesn't do, as OpInsights is not SCOM.
But you can collect your logs from those workloads and run your own intelligence (in the form of searches) against them i.e.
Monitoring SQL Backup Failures with Azure Operational Insights Search and Dashboards
IIS Management Pack Event-Alerting Rules’s OpInsights Searches Equivalents
The two approaches are not opposed, but complementary: SCOM is not meant to keep a very big data volume in the on-premises databases, and a lot of its alerting and intelligence that happens down at the AGENT level. This is performant, but lacks correlation
capabilities, since you can easily get duplicate alerts from multiple agents.
In Operational Insights we look at volumes of data to aid with rich troubleshooting scenarios, investigations and deep dives (often following up from a SCOM alert) allowing to span across all that data.
Check what other data sources other customers are asking to bring in Operational Insights
    http://feedback.azure.com/forums/267889-azure-operational-insights/category/88086-log-management-and-log-collection-policy
    Hope that helps,

  • SCOM 2012 Management Packs, Names of Servers they relate to.

    hello,
I'm looking to find how I can get existing data from SCOM Management Packs.
I have existing MP importing into SCOM, although I want to know how I find out what named Servers they relate to.
I have been currently been able to view the XML files and look through the code for server names, but want to find out any easier way through SCOM.  Is this possible ?
    Grateful if you could advise.

    Hi Rich,
I´n not really sure if i get your question correct but correct me if I´m wrong.
Once a Management Pack is imported into SCOM, It´s then distributed to all of your monitored servers where you´ve installed an agent. When this is done, the agent itself finds out what MP should be used on that particular server. A domain controller for
example will automatically use the AD Management Pack while a SQL server won´t use the AD management pack even though it is distributed to the server.
The easiest way to see which servers are using a specific MP is to look in the "Monitoring" tab in the Operations Console and there drill down to SQL Server MP for example. Then look for SQL Computers and you will see which computers have been discovered
    as SQL Server computers.
