Management Studio Express job activities monitoring
Hi all
I have a user installed management studio express, and can't view job activity monitor
unable to execute requested.....
any workaround......?? i don't want to install management studio( server version )
Management studio express doest have this feature I assume and there are no shortcuts. You might need full version SSMS or else you can use evaluation edition to check this.

Cannot open table in sql server management studio express
Hello all.
I have uploaded a table into sql management studio express. However, when I right click on the table and try and open it, I get an error message saying;
"SQL Execution Error.
Executed SQL statement: select columnName1, columnName2 etc....
Error source: Microsoft. VisualStudio.DataTools
Error Message: Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation"
Because of this error, I cannot manually edit the table. However, when I write a query running select * from Table X, the table does appear that way.
Any help regarding how to open the table would be very much appreciated!!have uploaded a table into sql management studio express. However, when I right click on the table and try and open it, I get an error message saying;

Error installing sql server 2008 management studio express
Hello,
I need to install sql server 2008 management studio express on a sql server 2k8 R2 instance.
First of all, I've downloaded this one from this link: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=7593 (for 32 bits).
Once I've the downloaded file I run this file and choose the first option (New sql server stand-alone...) in the installation part. Finally, in the installation type I choose the option 'Add features to an existing instance of SQL Server 2008' with the instance
selected. I push Next and then I get the following error: 'The instance ID is required but it is missing'.
Can anybody help me?
Thanks a lot.
Regards.Hello,
What’s the edition of the SQL Server 2008 R2? If you had installed SQL Server 2008 R2 Developer edition, you should install “SQL Server 2008 Express with Tools” edition or “SQL Server 2008 Express with Advanced Services” edition.

Reporting Service option disabled on Connect-Object Explorer Management Studio Express
Hi,
I have Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio 11.0.2100.60 with Data Tools for Visual Studio 2012 installed on Windows 8 ver 6.3
I try to connect to a Reporting Services on my network, but when I click Connect on Object Explorer left panel, I can see Database, and Azure enabled, but Reporting Services, Integration Services and Analysis Service disabled.
Why it is happening this?
Thank you,
Joseph - MadridHi Joseph – Madrid,
Based on my understanding, you want to connect to the reporting services in SSMSE. However, when you click Connect button on Object Explorer pane, Reporting Services, Integration Services and Analysis Service are disabled.
SSMSE cannot manage Analysis Services, Integration Services, or Reporting Services. Since you install SSMSE in your environment, the result is expected. Please refer to Features in SSMSE section of this article:
SQL Server Management Studio Express.
In your scenario, since you want to manage reporting services in SSMS, I would recommend you download and install Express with Advanced Services from this link:
Express with Advanced Services. When downloading, please choose ENU\x64\SQLEXPRADV_x64_ENU.exe. Or you can install other edition of SQL Server 2012 except Express edition.
Reference:
Install Reporting Services Native Mode Report Server (SSRS)
If you have any question, please feel free to ask.

SQL2005 management studio express can't install on windows 7
My os is Windows 7 ultimate 64 bit and no service packs installed.
I installed Visual Studio 2005.
Then I install SQL2005 management studio express 64 bit. But during installation an error occured.
"The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 29506"
and the installation terminated.
How can I solve this issue ?Hi
I belive it is becosue of the similar issue answered:-
All editions of SQL Server 2005 SP3 and SQL Server 2008 SP1 are supported on Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 or
later.
For SQL Server 2005, you need to be on SP3 to be compatible on Windows 7 or 8
you'll
need SQL install media that already has SP3 installed, i know its a bit annoying...
you can refer the below link
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/sqlreleaseservices/archive/2009/05/14/sql-server-on-windows-7-rc-and-windows-server-2008-r2-rc.aspx
or
if
service installed and to run the SQL Server 2005 on Windows 7, you need to install the last service pack for SQL Server 2005.

Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Management Studio Express silent installation very slow
Iam doing silent installations often on several Systems.
I install the Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Management Studio Express with this command:
"SQLManagementStudio_x64_DEU.exe /ACTION=INSTALL /QUIET /IAcceptSQLServerLicenseTerms="True" /FEATURES=CONN,BC,SSMS /indicateprogress"
The installation will take almost an hour to finish.
I never get error messages or so. The installation afterwards is fine.
Is there a way to speed up the installation process?
Thanks!Hi Dennis,
When installing SQL Server Management Studio, it is normal for us taking an hour to finish the installation.
Personally, if you want to speed up the installation process, I recommend improve your hardware device on your computer, such as CPU, RAM, hard disk and so on.
Or you can submit an submit the requirement at https://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/.
If the requirement mentioned by customers for many times, the product team may consider to add or improve this requirement in the future SQL Server version. Thanks for your understanding.
Thanks,

SQL Management Pack Agent Job Unit Monitors
I am trying to utilize the SQL Agent Job Monitors included with the SQL Management Pack (page 81 of the MP guide), particularly the "Last Run Status" monitor. I have set an Override for "Generate Alerts" to True. The goal
is to have an email notification sent when any SQL Agent job fails on a specific group of computers. However, I am not familiar enough with what "Last Run Status" is actually monitoring and if it will do what I am looking for. Does this monitor
check the job status of any agent job on the target group? I tried setting up a job for it to fail, which it does fail, but it does not generate an alert. Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks.1) For monitoring SQL server job status, you can refer to the following blog
http://blogs.technet.com/b/kevinholman/archive/2011/08/05/how-to-monitor-sql-agent-jobs-using-the-sql-management-pack-and-opsmgr.aspx
2) For troubleshoot: Make sure that your SQL agent job is discovered, you may find the discovered job under Microsoft SQL Server --> SQL Agent --> SQL agent job status. By default, the discovery is disabled and you should enabled the discovery by using
override.
Roger
Thanks. So I enabled Agent Job discovery for the systems that I want. It discovered those objects. Now, I still cannot get the alerting to work. I can see the Health State of the job change to a Warning, indicating "Last Run Status" equals Failed, but
it is not generating an alert. I set Overrides (Generates Alert = True) on a Group that included one of the job objects, nothing. I also set the same Override directly on the job object and I still do not receive an alert. Any ideas? I
noticed someone in the comments mentioned in the blog you linked, a similar issue, except with the Job Duration monitor. However, he was able to get alerts to generate by setting the Override directly on the Job object and noted that it is not a
feasible solution due to the number of jobs he wants to monitor. Again, I tried the same, but still could not get alerts. That solution would not be acceptable for me either because of the number of jobs that I would have to set individual Overrides for. -

SQL Server 2008 Management Studio Express
So I have an employee that works on Domain A, however she needs to log into SSMS 2008 Express under Domain B. When she launches SSMS Express it will not let her change the windows login credentials at all. My boss told me that the solution below was suggested
to him by MS to resolve the issue.
runas
/netonly
/user:domain\username
"C:\Progr...\IDE\Ssms.exe"
So I did this and still same issue, the ability to change the credentials are still grayed out.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Matt M.Hi,
It is by design that User name and Password area is grayed out when using Windows Authentication. SQL Server Management Studio fills in the user with the currently logged on Windows account for Windows authentication. The end-user is not allowed to change
or input a different user.
As suggested, you can launch SSMS with runas command with the "/netonly" switch to log in using remote credentials on a domain that you’re not currently a member of.
Check out the following link for more information:

Samnang.Hi SSamnang,
According to your description, you come across the error that the specific account already exists. Please help to share the complete error log in C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Setup Bootstrap\Log\20150102_161500\SSCRuntime_Cpu32_1.log. You could
use google drive to upload the error log following the steps in the article:
https://support.google.com/drive/answer/2424368?hl=en
From the exception help link, we notice that, the issue could be due to that an attempt fails to install SQL Server Native Client on a computer where SQL Server Native Client is already installed.
I recommend you to check if there is already an existing SQL Server Native Client on your computer. If there is an existing one, you could uninstall it and install SQL Server again.
In addition, there is a similar thread for reference:

SQL Server Agent not appearing in Management Studio
Hi there,
I have SQL Server set up on a server and I can't see the Agent in Management Studio.
When I check the services it says it is there and started.
I have the Enterprise edition installed.
Funny thing is it doesn't show when I am on the server itself through Management Studio, however, on my local pc, when I connect to the server through Management Studio, I can see the Agent through there and I have jobs there that run successfully and everything.
Its just when I log directly on the box and load up Management Studio, I don't see it.
Any thoughts?
Thanks!a) Is there a possibiity that you are using SQL Server Management Studio Express edition, on your server instead of (full or complete edition of management studio that came with SQL enterprise edition media)
one way to tell if you are using sql express studio is under management you will be missing Resouce Governor under management node, Resource governor mangeability feature is only available if you have install management studio that comes with an enterprise
edition only
OR
b) account under which you are logged in your server does not have privileges to view SQL Server Agent (the user need to be member of certain role in msdb database to view sql agent see
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms188283.aspx )
c) When you installed SQL managment stuido, which option did you choose for management studio (Basic or Complete)..? -

I have seen in the past that error and is generally related to remnants
from previous installations of SQL Server. Manually uninstalling the remnants may help as explained on the following resources:
