Managing 300 iPads

I will be managing close to 300 iPads this year in my school. 3 classrooms will have 1:1 iPads and then all others grades will share a cart of iPads for each grade. I will have 8 carts of around 30 iPads and 2 MACs to manage these. All grades want a different set of apps on their iPads. I need to create basically 6 different sets of apps. Any ideas?

Sign up for Apples DEP if your in a country that supports it
VPP for app purchasing and distribution
MDM solution to manage devices,300 ipads your going to need a MDM solution
MDM solution will allow you to push changes OTA to the devices,lock, wipe etc there are both free and paid solutions.
If you cant use DEP use apple configurator to enroll devices in the MDM
Be careful with ios7 activation lock, the first itunes account used for find my iphone becomes the activation lock login and password
The devices will not be able to be restored or erased without that login and password or proving to apple you actually own the devices
You'll need to plan accordingly, supervise, or not to supervise, MDM managment etc and how it may effect your plans and how the
devices are to be used

Ditto. iTunes will allow you to pick and choose what you want to put on both. Just name them something different when setting them up.

But every time I plug them into iTunes on my Pc all the apps get screwed up. apps disappear etc. I have "sync apps" selected without automatic updates. I'm thinking I should have this unselected, but that does make sense to me. Shouldn't I be able to have one iTunes account and manage each device independently. How can I manage multiple iPads for different students?

Problem: I need to manage multiple iPads for my students with special needs. I need to download different apps to different iPads and I'm not sure how to keep their apps separate but still keep ultimate control of the units (i.e. lock them from loading anything on the apps that we at the school district haven't approved).
I need to be the only one doing updates, loading software, etc., and don't want to keep using my own personal iTunes account...any suggestions?

You can have the 'classic' view by clicking on View - Show sidebar. In the new view, your iPad will have a link on the upper right.

I manage 60 ipads for a school using Apple Configurator. Need to update to iOS7 and AC1.4.3...Is it best to use Mountain Lion or Mavericks, as I also need to update from Lion 10.7 for the new AC and iOS to work properly.

I always run a Time Machine backup before updating anything and recommend you run a backup as well. Paid apps should migrate over without any problem. If you have problems with VPP codes not transfering over properly, you can talk to your Apple SE or contact VPP for Education support and they can help you. While I haven't experienced any problems with updating, its never a guarantee that others will have the same experience.

Be able to push purchased apps to the devices
Be able to use fine my iPad from icloud.com
Allow people to purchase apps on their own if they like
Does the number of iPads per apple ID exist for iPads too? I have 10 iPads to setup for users

With ten devices it could be a toss up over hand management & a MDM solution. Check out the layered model.

Managing Shared iPads and iPod Touches for different Departments

What would be the best way to manage multiple iPads used for different departments in an educational setting. I work in an educational setting and have recently purchased three iPads and 5 iPod touches for the sharing of four different departments each having both common and different uses and app desires? What are some best practices for managing accounts and workflow? Ex; Workflow for updating, syncing and maintenance? What about credit card accounts, does each iPad profile need to have a credit card account attached to it? What questions do we need to think in terms of creating a standard build without compromising the individual needs that each department may want to have on the iPads. Any advice would really help?

I too would love to know how to do this. I think you can manage multiple ipads/ipods from one computer, but don't know whether you can actually have different setups for apps on various ones.

Also,will the devices be in one physical location, or spread across multiple geographic locations? Are the devices BYOD type devices or will they be owned by the organization? Do you anticipate wanting to put other settings on the devices such as policy restrictions, email, wi-fi settings etc...

How do I use iTunes on one computer to manage two iPads with different contents?

I just bought an iPad Air 2 and want to use it with iTunes on my MacBook Pro. No problem so far! However, I want to continue to use my "old" iPad 2 for my wife and want to keep managing it as I always have using iTunes on my MacBook Pro. The thing is that I want to make it possible for the two iPads to have quite different content to allow for the different needs and tastes of my wife and me. How should I go about this?

I took a look at it but it seems to be aimed solely at "media" on an iPad, i.e. movies, music, TV shows etc. This is fine, but I also want to be able to deal with all the apps on each iPad too, so that when I connect each iPad to my MacBook through iTunes, the synching process works just like it always has for my first iPad (an IPad 2). I don't mean that I want all the apps on both iPads to be the same (my wife doesn't need all the apps that are on the iPad 2 at present), but I do want to be able to add/remove/update media and apps on each iPad, and update the iOS on each iPad.
Basically, I guess, I want a situation whereby when I plug in either of the iPads, iTunes recognizes each as a separate device and has a totally separate "library" (backup?) of music, movies, TV shows, etc. and — most importantly — apps. Is that possible?

I am trying to sort out the 2 ipads so its more easy to manage.
I am trying to use one for work so trying to make sure that emails etc do not go to both but still allowing the kids to play on both when I am at home.
1) I am keeping the same apple id on both so that I can share the apps etc but somehow the games will not update on both. is there something i am doing wrong? ( its worked on one only where the rest are starting at the beginning??)
2) Is there a way of being able to msg one ipad to another with the same apple id?? or do I need to create a seperate apple id?
any help would be appreciated or further information needed please ask.
I am new to ipads so be easy on me.

1. This is the correct way to have it. If you have the same Apple ID on both devices, they can share Apps.
Assuming the Apps/Games on both iPads where bought with the same Apple ID then they should update the same on both.
For emails unless you define the accounts on both iPads under Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars->Accounts. Then only the one with the account defined there will have the emails.
2. They can both have the same Apple ID, as Faroth suggests, simply adding a different email address in Settings->Messages->Send & Receive-You Can be Reached by iMessage At will enable messaging between them.
When Messaging use the new address to contact the othe iPad.

The screen shot gives you an idea of what im currently able to do with itunes. All devices have same itunes account as on macbook. I am able to sync and push apps, delete them create folders, manage settings and open files on mac from ipad. I was doing some research for next school year and came across info on Configurator. As i will be using new macbook pro i am looking for a way to dispaly ipads on the new machine rather than start form scratch. the accounts are not synced to the cloud they are all backed up on macbook.
