Managing autocomplete when you change jobs - a thorough examination

Hi, I am writing a guide to help people manage their autocomplete when they change employers. I am examining how to avoid emailing the infrequent use administartive addresses, say invoices@old-employer, when you want to mail invoices@new-employer, years after leaving the old employer due to a bad-autocomplete rule (this happend to me recently).
So far, I have documeneted how to delete the old addresses from the addressbook. This removes them from auto-complete. However, I ran some tests and found that if I mail one of the old addresses again, they come back in the auto-complete with there origional position in the list again. So, two initial questions
1) Does anyone know what rules the autocomplete uses. Is it based totally on frequency of mails with no factor for time. So, if I mailed invoices@old-company once am month for two years, I would have to mail invoices@new-company 25 times before that address came top?
2) can anyone suggest a way to edit a specific rule, so, not just remove the addresses of old company, but stop them coming top in the auto-complete for good
3) if 2 is not possible, perhaps a reset but deleting the contents of the rules file is possible.

Turn off the collection of outbound addresses if you do not want them added to the Collected address book. What you describe is exactly how it works.
The developers broke, in my opinion, the address search in version 31. It opened up the autocomple search to include too many choices and it pulls up the wrong items. I am staying at version 24.6 until they fix it.

  • The icon that appears when you change the volume is stuck on my phone.  how do i get it off my screen

the icon that appears when you change the volume is stuck on my screen.  Can anyone help?

    Hi antdagreat601,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
If you haven't already, I'd first try restarting or resetting your iPhone:
iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1430
    Restarting your device
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red "slide to power off" slider appears, and then slide the slider.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
    Resetting your device
Note: Reset your device only if you are unable to restart it.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If the volume icon doesn't go away, see our iPhone Troubleshooting Assistant for more help:

    Have a great day,

when you change PC how to make connection with iphone and new PC

Yes, you can do it the same as any other database. The code would be similar.
I'd also suggest you not to use the JDBC ODBC bridge for connection. There are other drivers available for that.

  • IBook shuts down when you change batteries

If only iBook could be like PowerBook, which runs on that little amount of spare power when you change batteries... Being owner of both laptops, I tend to change batteries for my iBook much more often than for my PowerBook, which I often use with a socket nearby.

Other than the PowerBooks the iBooks don't have a PRAM or spare battery (for the clock and so on) which would hold the system up during a (fast) battery change. So a complete shut down or an AC outlet are needed for a battery change.

  • How do you change your icloud account when you change email address

How do you change your Icloud account details from your old email address to your new email address?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Firstly, you need to change your details with Apple,  Start here, change your country if necessary and go to manage your account.
In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iCloud account on your iOS device, you need to delete the account from your iOS device first, then add it back using your updated details. (Settings > iCloud, scroll down and hit "Delete Account")
Providing you are simply updating your existing details and not changing to another account, when you delete your account, all the data that is synced with iCloud will also be deleted from the device (but not from iCloud), but will be synced back to your device when you login again.
In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iCloud account on your computer, you need to sign out of the account from your computer first, then sign back in using your updated details. (System Preferences > iCloud, click the sign out button)
In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iTunes account on your iOS device, you need to sign out from your iOS device first, then sign back in using your updated details. (Settings > iTunes & App store, scroll down and tap your ID)
If you are using iMessages or FaceTime, you will also need to log out and into your ID there too.

  • HT4946 when you change your country of orgin. why cant you buy in app purchases from apps that you downloaded in the previous country?

when you chane your country of orgin. why cant you buy in-apps purchases from apps which you bought in the previous country?

    Bob,
Apple did approve our in-app purchase without publishing the folio ahead of time.
I have a new question: Can I change the "Cleared for sale" attribute in the iTunes Connect interface from no to yes before a folio's scheduled publication date? Or should I wait until after the folio has been published?
I would think you could set the "Cleared for sale" attribute to yes before the publication date and it would not cause any problems since the folio is not available to purchase until it's published.

  • JFileChooser SaveDialog clears filename when you change extension

I created an instance of my GraphicFileChooser class which extends JFileChooser and named the instance chooser. I execute chooser.showSaveDialog(null); This brings up JFileChooser's save dialog. Everything works fine for the most part. I am able to save and cancel and change files and overwrite and everything. The one problem I have is that when I change the file extension type in the dropdown(i. jpg to png) the text box for the file name clears itself. I want the text box to always show what is typed in it and never clear. I have spent way to much time trying to work this minor detail out and would greatly appreciate it if somebody could help me. Thank you

Look these issues up in the Bug Database.
If you don't see them, have the Windows 2000 user post
a bug report explaining in detail the issue, so that
those wonderful people who work on such issues can
have the info available to resolve them. When I say post a bug report, I mean post the bug report **in the Bug Database**. Don't post them in the forums.

  • What is that screen that pops up when you change songs

I notice this little screen that comes up when iTunes changes songs. I also notice how this seems to slow it down and is just annoying in general. What is that and how can I turn it off or disable it?

No, see I have never opened the standard iTunes widget before so i doubt it is causing the screen to show up. The only other iTunes widgets I have downloaded were for lyrics look up nothing related to displaying the current song, and i deleted them already to be safe. Anywho, as soon as SpyMac.com comes back online I will post a picture of the "widget-like" screen that pops up. I will also try what u said but if there is no widget or other iTunes (other than iTunes itself) process running in the Activity Manager then theoretically this is not a widget problem but a setting somewhere in iTunes that was turned on. Anyways, I will post a picture of this as soon as I can.

  • ICloud not syncing when you change default folder

    Hi,
there seems to be an issue with iCloud not syncing photostream when you choose a different folder to store your pictures. Though if you'd still like to have your photostream pictures in a different folder, use my solution:
    1. Close all apple executables from task manager (ApplePhotStreams.exe, iCloudServices.exe)
    2. Remove C:\Users\<Username>\Pictures\iCloud Photos
    3. Create a symbolic link to the folder you'd like to use:
Start a command prompt, and use the following command to create a symbolic link:
         mklink "C:\Users\<Username>\Pictures\iCloud Photos" "<newpath>"
Where <newpath> is the path where you'd like to store your pictures.
    4. Start iCloud and sign out
    5. sign in again and apply settings
    6. Enjoy!

No, what I am saying is that the ones that have it on by default seem to work properly. The ones that you have to go in and enable the feature do not seem to save to iCloud once that option has been enabled. I've ran into several:
Don't save to iCloud (Have to go in an toggle the setting)
    Anomaly Warzone HD
    Zombieville USA
    Cut the Rope experiments
DO save to iCloud (Setting is on by default)

  • When you change computer....

....how do you transfer the library from your old computer to your new one????
I connected the iPod and chose manual management of files - can see the music on my iPod but cant get it into the library on the new computer.

How to Copy and Move your Music Files from One Computer to Another
This is the conceptual framework with related and important links. Apply and adapt it to your specific situation and equipment resources.
The safest, quickest, and most optimal method to move your Library to a new computer is to actually clone the entire ‘iTunes’ folder (directory) structure, rather than just copying just the song files. By copying the entire ‘iTunes’ folder and all sub-folders, you capture not only the music files, but the all-important ‘iTunes Library.itl’ database file (usually located in the ‘iTunes’ folder), which contains all the data about your songs (Playlists, Ratings, Play Counts, Last Played, Date Added, etc). See: What are the iTunes Library files?
Install iTunes on the new computer. Then go back to your old computer and move (copy) the "iTunes" folder which usually resides inside your "…\My Documents\My Music" folder from the old computer to the exact same place (both Drive Letter and complete Path) on the new computer. When you open iTunes on the new computer it will look and behave exactly the same way it did on the old, Play Counts, Ratings, Comments and all!
NOTE: It is usually safer moving files between computers with the same version of iTunes!!
Here's a list of methods to copy and move your music files from one computer to another:
    1) Use an External Hard Drive (ExHD) to move the complete files and Folder structures from one computer to another (my preferred option). You can clone’ the entire ‘iTunes’ folder structure in one very easy step. Also great to have available for complete backups of your Library. External hard drives now run less than $100 for 200-250GBs of storage. See This Link
    2) Directly connect the two computers....
    - 2a) Connect them through a Router &/or Network
    - 2b) Directly connect using an Ethernet cable: Straight for using at least one Mac; or Crossover for PC/PC Instructions here.
    - 2c) Connect them via a USB-to-USB Network Bridge. Example here. There are various types out there (use Google).
....Then copy the files from one computer to the other.
    3) Use the iPod as a transfer device, as this extensive Apple link explains. It will be a bit easier if your iPod has a larger capacity than your music collection, otherwise you will need to perform multiple copy/move transfers. This well written process also works fine while using any other data transfer medium (ExHD, Flash Drive, DVD, CD, Zipp, Jazz, etc.).
    4) Burn several DVDs (at 4.7GBs each) with your music data files and folder structure, and load them onto the new computer. Re-writable DVDs are more cost effective (if your DVD drive can manage these types).
    5) Burn 6x more on CDs (at 700MB each) than in #4 above and load the files and folders on the new computer. Re-writable CDs are more cost effective (if your CD drive can manage these types).
    6) Use a larger USB Flash drive (1GB - 4GB) to move the files and folders. Best if the flash drive is larger than your Library, otherwise you will need multiple copy/move transfers.
These are links to various additional instructions on performing the transfer (read them all, but some listed steps may not be required depending on your specific situation):
