Managing Bluetooth Codecs

I am still at a complete loss as to why I can't control the Bluetooth codecs/set preference orders in OS X.
I have a pair of Creative WP-350's and frankly the sound quality is terrible for the audiophile in me. A cheap pair of Sony MDR's sound better than the creatives on a good day. Plus, the SCO codec sounds better than aptX and doesn't have as much compression of the audio dynamics.
All I can get out of Creative's tech support department is that "you didn't use our bluetooth adapters" I fired back that Macs and iPhones have the capability, how come your headphones don't default to the best quality available?
(No response from them about that)
My question to you all: How do I manage the bluetooth codecs? (If at all possible) I need a way to do this if I am to pursue using bluetooth audio for my projects.
To note, default, no messing around, no fiddling with services update, nothing extra done, the Homespot bluetooth reciever sounds better than the Creatives when coaxed into the best codec. (That alone points straight at the Creatives)
I am using AU Lab + Soundflower to remix the audio dynamics out to the Creatives, it sounds much better, but I should not have to do this to get Hi-Fi, we're in 2013, not at the dawn of Bluetooth 1.0!!!
Any tips will be appreciated.

Your headphones pair with at most one device at a time.  When trying to pair the headphones with a Mac, both devices (Mac and headphones) should be "discoverable."

  • T420 windows 8.1 Manage Bluetooth devices will not turn on

I have a T40 that I upgraded from windows 7 to windows 8, and recently to windows 8.1, blue tooth device act flaxy and when I go to "Manage Bluetooth devices".  I have a bluetooth logictech v470 mouse which works most of the time and a bluetooth headset Hype (HY-91)
    I have 2 issues:
    1. can not turn on the slider to turn bluetooth on easily. - I finally get it turned on after awhile by double clicking, waiting, or just luck, not sure why it just does not just go on.
    2. I have trouble with my Bluetooth headset device the second time I connect no matter what I do unless I reboot or re-pair the headset it will work.
I thought it could it be related to two bluetooth devices, but I powered down the mouse. I thought skype was causing an issue, but I quit it and made sure it was not running in the background.
I did find if I turned off the internal speakers and internal mic only then the headset works properly.
    Any ideas?

Well my problem is now solved, both devices are bricked, Apple Store replaced both devices today, After talking with my daughter had the iPad mini was charging and it updated iOS8.1.3 and then bricked, tried all the things you suggested with both devices.  Yes, I agree about not letting my devices die, this was the first time my phone had died in 5 months but I firmly believe iOS 8.1.3 was the cause of both devices demise.  Apple checked both devices and promptly replaced both in about 30 minutes.  I hope this is not the way Apple is planning on continuing with software updates.  I have 10 apple devices and have been a strong supporter of their company, but these kind of half done updates are the reason I removed all Microsoft products from our household 7 years ago!

  • File Manager & Bluetooth?

    Hallo.
I have searched for a File Manager and a Bluetooth app but cant find any good one.
When i hade a undroid phone, there was very good file managers who showed the root of the phone and the bluetooth was great. The only file managers i found for iphone 4, doesnt show all my files, doesnt show my pic folder, ipod (music app), videos from buzz player, just *****, file manager is about to se all files and folders u have in the phone and to organize ur pics, music, videos in 1 place, not to have a few pics here and some there.
And the bluetooth just ***, apple show do a file manager who show all files from the root, and would be great if they could combo it whit bluetooth or something, this just ***.
is there any forum or news about this? would be great if anyway could answer.
    ty

You cannot get access to the file structure of the iphone. It does not support disk mode and is not intended to be used as an external storage device. You cannot control the file structure of the iphone.
What bluetooth functions are you looking for?
Iphone supports stereo headsets/speakers, telephone headsets/handsfree device, come BT keyboards, some peer-to-peer apps from the apps store, and tethering ( where allowed by the carrier, you would need the plan from the carrier for this).

  • No Apt-X BlueTooth Codec (Macbook Air 2012) ??

I have a pair of Nokia BH-905i bluetooth deadphones which have apt-x codec compatibility.  Regardless of what I try, only the SBC codec shows up as being used in my 2012 MAcbook Air.  I've gone through the threads here and have tried that various terminal commands ( set the min bitpool size to 53 , etc.), , used bluetootk explorer with the appropriate settings, paused and restarted the stream, rebooted numerous times and ...  nada.  Regardless of what I have tried (and I am using no other bluetooth devices) I have bo apt-x codec showing up - only SBC shows up when i alt-click the bluetooth icon, etc.
Why is the Macbook air being advertised with apt-x capibility when apparently it does not have this??
Does anyone else have any other suggestions as to why this is not working?

    Hi All,
    I've had a go at this, my MacBook Pro is a 13-inch, Early 2011 running OS X 10.9.1 (13B42).
I am not using Bluetooth headphones, but am using a QED uPlay Plus. Should be the same process anyway ?!
So sign up as a developer on the above link that one of the posters added, download the DMG file and open up Bluetooth explorer.
    Select audio options
Make sure aptX is ticked then disconnect from device and re-connect
Once you have done that hold down option key and select your Bluetooth option on the top of the desktop
You will see your paired device if you hover over it then on the left you will see the codac being used as below
My QED uPlay glows blue when using standard codac then purple when using aptX

  • Does SRS-X77 support apt-X bluetooth codec?

Hi, i am looking to buy a wireless speaker and the Sony line of speakers looks awesome. I am however confused by different specification listings for SRS-X77, i am unsure if it supports the apt-X codec.
This site says it does: https://blog.sony.com/press/29677/
This site says it doesn't: http://store.sony.com/powerful-portable-wi-fi-bluetooth-speaker-zid27-SRSX77/cat-27-catid-All-Player...
Can i get a definitive response on apt-X support? And LDAC for that matter as both sites also differ on LDAC support.

  • U310 Energy Management Bluetooth Icon

I recently installed the Lenovo Energy Management program on my U310 to take better care of my battery. Since doing this, I now have this annoying Bluetooth icon with an "X" through it that pops up about twice a minute. This is very distracting and seems unnecessary. If anyone knows how to fix this or turn this off, that would be much appreciated.
Note: I originally had Windows 8 on this system, now I have Windows 7 Professional. I'm not even sure if this system had Bluetooth to begin with, but there is clearly one device my computer has not been able to identify and I wonder if the Bluetooth driver got lost while switching from Windows 8 to Windows 7? Any help is appreciated!

    hi Chellelin 92,
Thanks for using Lenovo Community Forums!
Uninstall the Lenovo Energy Management again from Control Panel / Programs
    Then reinstall it from here
     Lenovo Energy Management Driver
And Can you check the hardware ID of that unknown device You have under device manager and post it back here.

  • Bluetooth Desktop Manager communications - a Solution

There has been some chat about this already on this forum, but I haven't seen a simple statement of the problem, its cause, and the solution.  As of today I have a Blackberry (an 8310) successfully resyncing over Bluetooth, so here's a quick summary.
The Problem (if you have one)
    ======================
You can't get the "Synchronize" Option in Blackberry Desktop Manager 4.1-up to work over Bluetooth with your Blackberry.  (And for this discussion we will assume that you CAN get it to work over USB - just not over Bluetooth.
    The Cause
    ========
The cause is that your computer and your Blackberry are not communicating properly over Bluetooth.  You may have no Bluetooth connectivity between the two at all, or it may seem that you have the BB and computer properly paired - either way it is an illusion and makes no difference.  If you can't complete the following on your computer - get to the Options/Connection Settings dialog box in Desktop Manager, check the "Enable Bluetooth Support" box, hit "Configure Bluetooth", hit "Add" and then successfuly see and add your BB handleld - then you can safely assume you do not have the proper type of Bluetooth connection you need to make it all work properly for the BB.  Quit trying and read on.
Assuming you have Bluetooth on your computer working properly for other uses (ie. not broken), that you have Bluetooth discoverability turned on for both computer and BB and that your BB is healthy, the problem is with the Bluetooth drivers on your computer.  Specifically the problem is that many Bluetooth drivers handle the usual Bluetooth functions like audio connection and networking, but NOT the one function you need, which is data transfer.  Hence these drivers - which are almost always proprietary, non-Microsoft drivers - may work just fine for many purposes but they will never, ever talk to your BB in the way that you need them to.
The solution is to replace the Bluetooth driver you have with the generic Microsoft Bluetooth driver from Service Pack 2 or later.  These Service Packs are easy to download and install from Microsoft, but the trick is that this does NOT replace the Bluetooth drivers your computer is actually using.  Even deleting the Bluetooth drivers doesn't work because the computer instantly realizes it is missing the driver, looks for the appropriate Okie Fenokee brand driver that goes with the Okie Fenokee Bluetooth driver definition still sitting there in your proprietary computer, thoughtfully re-installs it and leaves you back right where you started.
    The Solution
    =========
The solution is easy once you know.  I DO NOT PROMISE what this may do to other Bluetooth applications you have working perfectly right now, so if Grandma's kidney dialysis machine is hooked intimately to your working Bluetooth setup as it is right now, then proceed no further.  Otherwise, hit "Start" and right-click on My Computer, then left-click on "Properties".   Choose "Hardware", then "Device Manager".  Find "Bluetooth Radios" in the list you get, expand it, and then delete EVERY entry you get below it in the hierarchy.  Now get back out of all that.  You have left your computer with a piece of hardware (the Bluetooth radio) and absolutely no software to drive it.  Your computer will realize this and immediately start searching for software (drivers) to remedy the problem.  It will ask you where to search, so make sure it either picks up the current MICROSOFT drivers from the web or the MICROSOFT drivers you have lying around (unused, till now) on your computer from a previous installation of Service Pack 2 or higher.  This is easily checked just by going back into My Computer/Properties/Hardware/Device Manager/Bluetooth Radios and looking.
Give it all a minute to settle and then the previously-mentioned procedure- get to the Options/Connection Settings dialog box in Desktop Manager, check the "Enable Bluetooth Support" box, hit "Configure Bluetooth", hit "Add" and then successfuly see and add your BB handleld - should work.  Moments later you'll see the PIN of your BB appear at the top of the Connection Settings dialog box, a sure sign of success.  Now just go ahead and finish configuring Desktop Manager as you would normally, do the Sync and all's well!  Contrary to some beliefs you do NOT need to do one successful USB sync before Bluetooth synce will work; the Bluetooth problem is entirely about having the right Bluetooth drivers that can cope with the special needs of the BB.
Hope this helps and good luck!

Your solution sounds pretty good but doesn't work for me.  I'm running Vista with service pack 1 and two USB-Bluetooth adapters I've bought have no Microsoft driver.  The manufacturer's driver works great but device manager does not find a Microsoft driver.
Is there a registry key I can modify?  What about a list of compatible USB-Bluetooth adapters?
I'll try another adapter from a different manufacturer but most of them do not list Vista as a supported os.
By the way.  Just what is so special about the Microsoft driver that Desktop Manager needs?  The whole point of a Bluetooth and USB interface is to isolate the app from the implementation to avoid just this type of circumstance. Almost implies that Desktop Manager doesn't support Vista.
    Thanks,
    Bill

  • U430 Touch: Energy Manager kills Bluetooth

As soon as I install the Energy Manager, Bluetooth just fails to start. Bluetooth shows up in the Device Manager, but cannot be startet.
Tested with (latest) original Lenovo Drivers and Intel's Drivers.
Any Ideas? I need Bluetooth for my external Mouse.

I also installed the new version of the energy manager but it had not solved my bleutooth issue completly.
I solved the bleutooth challenge on the "Lenovo U430 touch" running Windows 8.1
    by reinstalling the "Intel(R) Wireless Bluetooth(R) 4.0 + HS-adapter".
With this driver "gawy08ww"  for Windows 8.1 from the lenovo website, WARNING  this driver is said (by lenovo)
not intended for the "Lenovo U430 touch" and therefore be sure to make a system restore point before taking any further actions. Also be aware I will not provide any further assistance and that following the installation steps in this "forum post" is completly at your own risk.
    1) Make a complete system restore point ,to be assured that should something go wrong you can revert your system to a previous state.
2)Turn off Bluetooth by opening the charm bar on the right of the screen, then click "Settings"
then click "Change pc settings", and click on tab "PC and devices.
Now click on tab "Bluetooth" where you will find a "On OFF" slide. put this in the off position.
    3) Now install the driver for Intel(R) Wireless Bluetooth(R) 4.0 + HS-adapter
by clicking on  "gawy08ww.exe" and follow the steps of the installer.
    4) Reboot after installation
    Good luck!

  • Multiple problems with PC Suite 6.80 and bluetooth

After several frustrating hours with a spiral of problems, I hope someone can see a way to get this (rubbish) PC Suite software working with my 6230i phone. - System is XP SP2 on a Dell Inspiron 8600 with bluetooth built in. - Syncing with Lotus Notes 6.5 - PC Suite version I'm attempting to get working is 6.80.22 (latest as of 9/6/2006) Started with PC Suite 4.88 installed (for a 6310i phone - was trying to find a way to move contacts). This software however, had stopped working for this phone.... Day 1 - Installed PC Suite 6.8.22 (as well as 4.88) and after while got this working (sort of) - at least I got the Sync function to work OK (not the contacts list however for example) Day 2 - updated an address on PC and on phone and tried to Sync - alwasy just sat there trying to connect - nothing has changed since yesterday. (selected two way updated in advanced properties) (several hours of wasted life on a sunny evening later) Read all the stuff on this board I could and decided that problem might be because the System Info showed that I had Widcomm and Microsoft bluetooth installed. So: 1. uninstalled 4.88 version 2. Didn't read instructions carefully enough so didn't uninstall 6.80.22 3. ran the Nokia PC Suite Cleaner 3.3 (selected Other - said Yes to deleting .exe, no to deleting .dll's - wouldn't have got this if 6.80.22 was uninstalled) 4. installed 6.80.22 - tried 3 times and kept getting an error about missing components in the .msi file. Downloaded new copy, reinstall - same message, try once more, suddenly install works without error! 5. Try to connect to phone - now get error saying "no available connection type" - i.e bluetooth not working. - check System Info - "no supported bluetooth Stack" is listed. (Had both Widcomm and MS before) - check I CAN connect to the phone using e.g. bluetooth icon on and using say the "Audio gateway" function - so bluetooth IS installed OK - just PC Suite doesn't recognise. 6. Uninstalled PC Suite 6.80.22 7. Ran Nokia PC Suite Cleaner 3.3, selecting "other" 8. Install PC Suite 6.80.22 9. Try to connect - exactly the same problem as before. 10. Try to activate MS bluetooth - using CP-> System-> hardware-> device manager-> bluetooth devices-> properties -> driver -> update driver as suggested elsewhere but find that after “bluetooth devices” I have to select “Dell TrueMobile Bluetooth Module” befpre driver-> update driver (which tells me that it is updated – though at least twice before I have found newer drivers after being given this message) 11. Go to bed after 6 wasted hours. (sorry if there is no formatting in this - there was when I typed it, but the preview shows none and I can't seem to add any spaces, lines etc) Thanks Andrew

    Hi Manta
After a downward spiral where the BT stopped working at some point during an install/uninstall, so i tried to follow some of the guides to sort out removing Microsoft BT and only having Widcomm - however at almost every turn there were problems, error messages not anticipated etc. to the point where nothing worked....
Eventually thought to go back to a XP restore point which got the BT working again. (Microsoft and Widcomm drivers are both installed as before).
Then had to run PC suite 4.88 to remove (kept getting error messgaes by doing it from add/remove in ctrl panel) and then had to reinstall PC suite 6.80-22 and removing it also gave unanticipated error messages.
Did as you suggest and ran the cleaner through every stage (requiring 4 or so "installs" of this software and 3 reboots if you do as the software tells you..)
Reinstalled and it almost seems to work as well as it did when I first installed it - apart from now I can't sync my calendar - get a message about the server being down even though it clearly isn't as I can use my email and calender though the Notes client without a problem...
    Dodgy PC suite software again??
(I've also noticed that if you have tried to sync and it fails and then you try again, it pretends to have done a sync but in fact as long as the fail message is on the phone screen this will lock it out from another sync function...though this is not clear on the PC)
If you or anyone else has any idea about the server connection failure message I'd appreciate hearing about it - and I'll go and have a look throught the boards to see if anyone else has seen this.

  • No bluetooth in my G500 and is it possible to install a SSD in place of existing HDD?

Started a new Thread as per your suggestions
This laptop is bought on Thanks giving day from best buy and I'm not sure if there is bluetooth, from beginning, I'm using Wifi. As per the website and maintenance manual there exists a bluetooth. This is no good for a brand new laptop. My friends already cautioned me from buying items listed in thanks giving sale as they are either faulty or rejected items. But this laptop is not listed in the sale and hence I bought it. But I'm not happy, as the lenovo website lists bluetooth but I'm not sure if the laptop has bluetooth. The customer support too insists me to send laptop to lenovo for a refit or replacement. But I'm not interested as I need to move on and I can't wait till I get a replacement.
Now I will try based on your suggestions!
    1) I will check in Drivers folder for anything that says bluetooth - NO. But the maintenance manual says bluetooth is integrated with Wif-fi. Today I'm trying with Ethernet card.
    2) I will make sure I will download the drivers for bluetooth and model from below link
    http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS035531
I will  Hook up my ethernet cable. Now should I directly start installing the drivers to detect bluetooth or should I reboot my laptop
    3) Can I install a SSD in addition to my existing HDD (somewhere in web it says to enable TRIM functionality too)?
or is it possible to install a SSD by removing the existing HDD?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    hi  beswaminathan,
Usually, if a machine comes with a bluetooth device, you can check it under Device Manager > Bluetooth (a generic Windows driver will used if there's no OEM driver installed- see image below).
Looking at the spare parts, the one below is the Wi-Fi card that has a built-in bluetooth for this model. If you have a different Wi-Fi adapter, it's possible that it's Wi-Fi only. Try to search the specs in google and observe.
    WLAN LITEON WB225 1X1 BGN+BT4.0 HMC
For the SSD, there appears to be no slot for an mSATA or M.2 (NGFF) SSD at the back side. You will need to remove the stock 2.5" HDD and replace it with a 2.5" SSD.
    Link to picture
For TRIM to be enabled on an SSD, you will need to re-install Windows in AHCI mode and follow these tips and tricks..

  • Y580 Win8 - bluetooth not working

    Hi
I upgraded to windows 8 professional an most things are working pretty good.  However there are some things that aren't working quite right.
After the upgrade the bluetooth stopped working.  I went to the driver matrix and selected my computer from the list and downloaded the bluetooth driver for windows 8 64bit.  When i try to run it, it says there is no appropriate driver to instal.
Another small problem is the touchpad.  It works and lots of the gestures work, but some are missing.  I also tried to download the driver from the driver matrix.  I downloaded the windows 8 64bit driver.  When I try to run it, it says to run the 64bit version of the driver, and to contact customer support.  I tried redownloading the driver to make sure I was using the 64bit version, and got the same result.
Everything else seems to be working great.
Any ideas how to get bluetooth to work (main concern)?
    Adam.

    Hi Adam,
So, I had this same problem on a fresh OEM install of windows 8 pro. No bluetooth, the trackpad was nearly useless and there was an unknown device in device manager. I tried just about everything I could as well as a few of the tricks listed here and nothing worked. So, I eventually got ahold of the windows 8 drivers from various global support sites and decided to do a reinstall -- it worked -- and here's what I did:
(I'm not a hacker or technician, just a tinkerer -- but my fiddling worked out.)
As near as I can guess, I believe that the drivers for windows 8 are very pickey about when and what partition type they are installed to. It appears that Win 8 will allow you to install it onto any NTFS formatted drive (logical or other) and this creates a problem with the drivers.(?) I decided to re-install Win 8 on a standard format NTFS in x64 (I purchased an aftermarket mSATA SSD, so the reinstall was being done without effecting the original install.) Again -- I made certain that the format was a zero frills NTFS! I had already created a driver disk with the collected drivers that I took from the internet, however Windows told me that there were "no signed drivers present", I decided to continue and windows intalled as usual. When I attempted to install the drivers this time round everything went fine and all of my Lenovo Fn keys, power manager,  bluetooth, touchpad, etc. started working fine.
So, just to check I did a reinstall on the original disk after re-partitioning using the original drivers and that worked too.
So, the closest that I can figure without doing some linear troubleshooting by recreating the problem is that A: Windows 8 is really pickey about disk formats. and B: Some of the drivers on the Lenovo US site haven't updated.
Again -- I'm not claiming that I understand exactly why this is happening or how I fixed it for myself, but there you have it.
    Cheers and good luck,
    Aaron
P.S. The SSD and this computer are totally awesome, I really hope you get everything working okay.

I've got the exact same problem... :'(  I had to flash my phone, and subsequently got an upgrade I'd been longing for... to 6.0. When I upgraded my desktop software to match my new phone upgrade, the software on my laptop JUST WOULDNT start!! The screen stays white. I've tried reinstalling from - the internet, and from -the cd, but it stays the same.    I decided to try a different approach, and connected the phone to my laptop, and now I cannot find my BBMessenger app, or my APPWorld button.    If I could find AppWorld, I'd probably just re-download BBM, but now they're both gone!   ...What do I do? Go back to version 5 on both counts? Does that imply I'd have to flash my phone again?  Just so *frustrated!!
