Managing cookies in Safari 3.1.2

I am having trouble getting to my cookie information in Safari. I know I am supposed to click on Safari, then preferences and then security but I don't have anything that says security. The only window that comes up when I click on preferences is one that says Advanced and the only things I can change there are Universal Access, Style Sheet, and Proxies. I can't seem to get to the right menu to manage my cookie preferences. Help!!

That's correct, I don't see any of that, at the top of the box it says Advanced.
I have Safari 3.1.2 and if I have Safari open and I click on it the drop down menu has About Safari, Report Bugs to Apple, Preferences, Block Pop Up Windows, etc. If I click on preferences I get a box with the title of Advanced. It has things you can change, Universal Access: and a box to check to Never use font size smaller than a 9 and you can change the font size. Then it has a Style sheet drop down menu that says None Selected and if you click on it it brings you to Other, if you click on that you get a menu that has the Desktop, Documents, Library, Movies, Music, Pictures, etc. The next thing in the box is Proxies, and you can click on Change settings. If I do it brings me to the network box under the proxie tab (where you have the Airport and tcp/ip settings, etc.) The only other thing is a box you can check that says Show Develop menu in menu bar.
Is there any other information you need? Why is this happening?!

  • Who to manage cookies on Safari 2.0.4 ??

Some time ago I used to work on a web version of the MSN messenger because the regular messenger doesn't work at my school's network (they clock some java services and something else), but then, out of no apparent reason the page dind't let me use the web-messenger cuz' my browser didn't allow cookies, I check every menu and every option to see how could I activate the use of cookies but I found nothing, I check the "help" option and it told me than at the "safari" menu I will find an option called "preferences" and there the option where I could activate or diactivate the service of cookies, but in my spanish version of Safari 2.0.4 there's nothing like that at the preferences menu, insted I have the options of "activate tabs navigation" whit some variants of it, like "select new tab when created" and "always show tad menu", besides it shows some key shortcuts for some tab functions. So insted of giving me the preferences menu it shows me the "Tabs" menu. What to do now?

    Hambones,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Before you do anything else make a backup copy of the Cookies.plist file which is located in your Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library, and place it on your Desktop.
You have two choices that I see.
    1. Go to Safari>Preferences...>Security>(Show Cookies) "Remove All"
    2. Go to Safari>Preferences...>Security>(Show Cookies) Find and remove any Spirit Airlines related cookies.
    Pros/Cons
Con-Choice # 1 will remove all of your cookies, but will most likely get rid of the culprit.
Pro-Choice # 2 is not guaranteed to find the culprit, but will protect your other cookies.
If you try choice # 1 and fail just drag the Cookies.plist on your Desktop back to the original location.
As a friendly reminder for a new Discussions participant, I would recommend that you start your very own post.instead of Threadjacking.

    Thanks

    Uninstall SIMBL as follows.
Select Go ▹ Go to Folder… from the Finder menu bar, then enter the following text in the box that opens:
    /Library
A folder will open. From that folder, delete the items listed below (some may be absent.) You may be prompted for your administrator login password.
    Application Support/SIMBL
    InputManagers/SIMBL.bundle
    LaunchAgents/net.culater.SIMBL.Agent.plist
    ScriptingAdditions/SIMBL.osax
Log out and log back in.
Make sure you never reinstall SIMBL. It’s likely to come bundled with another third-party system modfication that depends on it. If you want trouble-free computing, avoid software that makes miraculous changes to other software, especially built-in applications. The only real exception to that rule is Safari extensions, which are mostly safe, and are easy to get rid of when they don’t work. SIMBL and its dependents are not Safari extensions.

  • Is it possible to lock out a specific cookie in Safari

Is it possible to permanantly "lock out" a specific cookie in Safari? I understand using preferences to provide details and to remove specific cookies but I would like to prevent some cookies from ever being allowed. Is there an advanced blocking method I haven't found yet?

No, you are not the only one having issue with management of cookies in Safari.
Many have expressed a wish for blacklisting cookies.
Safari > Preferences > Privacy  > Block cookies > Always
Click the question mark at the bottom. This is the explanation  I got.
"Select to always block cookies. This may prevent you from using some websites."
I am not aware any command using terminal to accomplish the objective.
    Best.

  • Weird cookies in Safari 5.1 (OS 10.6.8)

    Hello,
surprisingly, I regularly find that pages like e. g. Facebook, Google, but also many others, put cookies in my system, even though I usually mark the option "block ALL cookies". This happens every time I am using the browser - even when I don't visit these particular websites!!
I expect Safari to block ALL cookies when I choose this option, but obviously there is a (probably intended...) bug in the software.
How can this happen and how can I avoid this kind of spy behaviour of Safari, Google & co.?!
Thank you very much for your answer!

I'd use that terminal command - takes seconds (and a restart) + no download. But otherwise yes - the 10.6.8 v1.1 then the update & anything else software update picks up (not safari, obviously )
Some people happily get a copy of just the safari 5.0.5 application & use that, since apparently it works, although I'm not sure what cookie function you'll get (easy enough to see). You'd use Pacifist to extract it from the 5.0.5 installer package, or grab it from a backup.
Although you'd hope software update would catch the security change - I'm not sure if the combo would overwrite the new or not... on the one hand, it's newer, but on the other, it sure over-wrote safari 5.1 when i checked it... so better to be sure, I haven't checked since that update.
If you look at the files in /System/Library/Keychains/ afterwards - if EVRoots.plist, SystemRootCertificates.keychain, and SystemTrustSettings.plist are all dated 23 April 2011, the combo rolled them back - if they're later... it didn't.
Apple do know, since bug reports come back as 'duplicate of...' - but  there's no public info to my knowledge.
How much of a security issue is this? Should I worry about it, or just leave it until they update to fix?
more privacy than real security, I'd say - although there are add-ons to manage cookies.

  • Third party cookies in Safari

Safari's been acting a little funky since the last update Version 5.1 (6534.50), so I've been checking on different settings. I have Safari set to block third-party cookies, pop-ups, etc.. and I set it to Private Browsing. Yet when I checked on the cookies that were stored, there were 67 different tracking cookies and 65 of them were third-party/advertisers. (This was after deleting all cookies previously so was just from visiting maybe a dozen primary sites, never clicking on any ads or links).
So what's Safari's problem with this? Why doesn't Safari actually do what it says it's doing?
    Thanks for any insight.

Safari and cookies management needs improvement as noted from the ASC forum search for Safari / Cookies here.
What I'm trying to say is that you would have better luck managing cookies in another browser.

  • Allowing third party cookies on safari

I just got my Mac and upgrades my OS to Yosemite. I haven't had to use the website before i downloaded Yosemite so I don't think it has to do with that. I can't find anything about cookies in my settings. My OS is 10.0, don't know about the IOS

    Hi haymitch14,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like you’ve recently upgraded your MacBook Air to Yosemite and want to know how to control the way Safari handles cookies. The article linked below will help you find the cookie settings in Safari preferences and explain what they do.

  • How to manage cookies

I am having issues with logging into some sites - How can I manage cookies?

Pull up Safari > Preferences > Privacy.
It gives you some general controls, plus the ability to list and optionally remove cookies, caches, and local data through the "Details..." button.

Is there a way to delete only cookies in safari 5.1?
If you go to Preferences -> Privacy -> details, you can choose to remove "website data" but sometimes this includes the local cache and also local storage.
Is there any way to delete JUST/SOLEY the cookies that the browser stores?

    Go to ~/Library/Cookies.
Move the Cookies.plist to the Trash.
~ (Tilde) character represents the Home folder.
For LIon:   To find the Home folder in OS X Lion, open the Finder, hold the Option key, and choose Go > Library

  • Best Practice for Managing Cookies in an Enterprise Environment

We are upgrading to IE11 for our enterprise. One member of the team wants to set a group policy that will delete all cookies every time the user exits IE11.  We have some websites that users access that use cookies to track progress in training,
but are deleted when the user closes the browser.  What is the business best practice regarding deleting all history, temp internet files and, especially cookies when closing a browser.
If you can point me to a white paper on this topic, that would be helpful.

    Hi,
Regarding cookie settings, we could manage IE privacy settings using Administrative templates for IE 11:

I received a phishing email supposedly from my bank and clicked on url - didn't enter any data though.Bank says to get ipad checked for viruses, but I understood ipad has built in security.I've cleared cookies in safari via settings.  Anything else to do?

I know this has been solved as you reported, but I think you need to check with your e-mail provider. Did you also get this same e-mail on your computer? If you use the same ID for e-mail on computer and ipad, it should have appeared on both. It's very common spam. Check your computer to see if on it, the e-mail is in spam, or, if you deleted it on your ipad, check your recently deleted e-mails.
You might want to consider changing your password, though people sending spam, don't need it. My e-mail provider had me change my password, not because I was getting spam, but unknown to me, I was sending it!  (You'll still get some spam, though.) It's when you learn that you're unknowingly sending spam...that you must change your password.
    Hope this helps.
(Ss I was sending this, I just got an e-mail notification from the Nigerian... it got to my e-mail instead of going to spam.)

  • Setting secure on session management cookie only in production

I am faced with the following:
In our developmentcycle we deliver full application exports to an acceptation environment and after testing to a production environment.
However, only our production site does HTTPS. Development and acceptation only do HTTP.
In production we have to set the "secure"flag on the session management cookie.
We would like to set this flag in our deployment scripts.
    So,
Is there an API we could use to set the "Secure" flag in the APEX metadata using SQL*Plus?
