Managing iCal calendars on iPod touch

I know there have been plenty of topics in this discussion started by folks trying to get the color codes on their iPod touch and iPhone calendars to match what they see in iCal and MobileMe. I've battled this issue pretty much ever since I bought my first-generation iPod touch as a replacement for my Palm Tungsten E PDA. I don't want to start another one of those fruitless discussions.
I'm pretty much hard-coded when it comes to the colors I associate with my calendars on desktop and laptop (red=national holidays, blue=household events, green=office events, purple=school events, etc.), and seeing different colors on the events on my iPod makes the Calendar app confusing, distracting and hard to use. I've realized I'd almost rather not check my schedule on my iPod, because I can't scan events the way I'm used to. As a replacement for my Palm PDA, in other words, I'm afraid my iPod's a failure.
Unless, that is, someone knows of a way to turn the colors off in the Calendar app or, more likely, can recommend a better third-party solution in the App Store.
My first-generation touch is already feeling outstripped by recent hardware updates, and I'm coming to realize I'll be looking for a replacement before much longer. If I can't figure out a good way to make an iPod touch sync with my calendars, my next handheld is going to be something other than an iPod.

First I'd like to clarify some nomenclature. I switched from using Now Up-to-Date and Now Contact to iCal and Address Book. In Now Up-to-Date, there was only one Calendar, although you could have miltiple Calendar files with different names. Within a Calendar, you could have many categories of calendar entries which could be customized as to type style (Regular, Bold, Italic, etc. and Color). I had used it for over ten years and during that time had moved several times and lived overseas in two countries. Thus I had on category for Spanish Holidays, another for Portugues Holidays and many others, with a total of about 12 categories.
When I shifted to iCal, I archived all old calendar entries but my new iCal Calendar ended up with 12 sub calendars. I have culled/combined them to the following list: Club Events, Holidays and Birthdays, El Paso events, Medical-Dental, On-Screen Reminders, Special Days, KId's Events, Work, Theater & Entertainment, Travel plus subscriptions to Birthdays (direct from Address Book), Holidays in Spain, and Holidays in Portugal.
That is the description of my iCal Calendar as seen on my Mac Pro and MacBook Pro, automatically synched through Mobile.Me.
On my iPodTouch, I see at the top, All Calendars, then From My Mac, below which is one subcalendar entitled All from My Mac, and below that is [email protected] (MobileMe), followed by all of the subcalendars I have described above.
I would like to get rid of the From My Mac entry so that All Calendars and MobileMe are one and the same. After reading other threads, I have decided the only way to do so is to talk to a MobileMe expert.

Probably because you did not tell the iPod to sync the calendar in iTunes.

  • I recently purchased new Mac Mini with Lion installed. Now I can't get iTunes to sync iCal from my iPod Touch (3rd gen) to my Mini.

I recently purchased a new Mac Mini with Lion installed. I downloaded the latest version of iTunes. Now I can't get iTunes to sync iCal from my iPod Touch (3rd gen) to my Mini. Everything else syncs great, and iCal syncs from my Mini to my Touch. My Touch has the latest iOS installed. I have tried rebooting my Touch, removing the sync calendars option from iTunes>Info and checking it again after applying and closing iTunes, and restarting my Mini. Any help will be appreciated!

  • Help on syncing multiple calendars with iPod Touch 4g 64g

In our university, we use iCal with Blackboard. Also, our main *email* is Entourage - pretty sure it's the most recent version for Mac.
How can we sync the Entourage calendar with iCal, and be sure that they are all merged and 2-way functional for the iPod touch and laptops (I know for multiple computers we'll have to set up home sharing - for now let's just focus on the calendar syncing).
I have instructions for syncing Entourage with iPod Touch, and it's been recommended to use Google to sync with iCal (thanks llllass) but we don't want to use Google or MobileMe to get to iCal.  iCal is already built into the iPod Touch, as I'm sure you know.
Any advice on how to make this super simple?
    Thanks in advance.

My first suggestion is to try Stanza, as it is a much more configurable ebook reader.  You can use the
Calibre (ebook management/conversion utility) to transfer ebooks from your computer to your iPod Touch.
    <http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/30657/calibre>
Looking at iBooks on my iPod Touch, my font selection and font size are only present when I have an ebook open.  If I tap the center of a page, the top edge of the screen has
Library | Table of Contents | Brightness | aA (font size, and font selection) | Search | Bookmark
Where the aA icon brings up a control that has a small a and a large A.  If I tap on the large A, each tap increases the font size until it gets REALLY BIG.  Tapping on teh small a reduces the font size for each tap.
Landscape lock.  OK for the iPod Touch as a whole, you put the iPod Touch in the orientation you desire, then you quick double-tap on the home button.  This will bring up a list of your running apps.  Now slide the list to the right, and you will see music controls as well as on the far left a screen lock button.  Tap the screen lock button to lock your iPod Touch in its current orientation.  Unlock it later when you want your iPod Touch to be able to rotae again.
NOTE:  Stanza as an ebook reader, it has its own configuration control that locks Stanza into a specific orientation, independent of the iPod Touch orientation or the iPod Touch orientation lock.  Another reason I like Stanza.
Wallpaper.  I think you can only change it to something else.  Settings -> Wallpaper, then tap on the screen you want to change.  Now select a different Wallpaper from either the Wallpaper selections, or anything in your Camera Roll, or your Photo Library.

  • List view in iCal on my iPod touch is corrupted

The 'list view' seems to be all wonky in Calendar on my iPod touch.
The dates for a given day that's displayed don't make sense:
i.e. Sunday Oct. 27 2030 followed by Saturday July 14 2001 followed by Tuesday Jan. 16 2001 are listed in consecutive order instead of today, tomorrow and next day (with correct dates).
Also, the 'events' given for each day listed don't make sense and are often duplicated.
The 'day' and 'month' views however, seem to be ok and not corrupted. The 'list' field in the month view also seems fine ?
Has anybody experienced this ? Very frustrating, since I like the list view.
I make most of my entries/changes to iCal on our main desktop (iMac 24") then sync. to my iPod. The list view seems ok on the desktop.
    Any help greatly appreciated.
ps. not sure if the problem corresponded with an upgrade of the Ipod software to OS 3.1 from 2.x....

  • Adding an event to your iCal on your iPod touch

So...I understand you can sync the iPod touch's iCal with a calendar on your main computer (using Entourage, outlook, or simply iCal.) BUT....can you add events directly into your Ipod touch...and then simply view both calendars at the same time like you can do using iCal on your desktop? Basically, use your Ipod touch as a sort of palm pilot.
Any info on this would be great.

    Steve Minnick wrote:
....can you add events directly into your Ipod touch.
No, you can't do this. Apple have decided that iPod Touch users shouldn't be allowed to add calendar entries and have broken the calendar.
You can let Apple know we want the calendar fixed by filling out the form at: http://www.apple.com/feedback/
It only takes a minute and it's the best way we have of telling them we don't want a crippled calendar.

  • Trouble syncing MS Outlook 2011 calendar with iPod touch

I use MS Outlook 2011 on my iMac for email, contacts and calendar. The Outlook calendar is syncing fine with iCal, which I know it has to do first since the iPod & iCloud will not sync directly with Outlook (go figure, MS & Apple still haven't figured that **** out!) It seems like every since I updated to the latest version of iTunes and iOS 6.0.1 on my iPod touch, the calendar is no longer syncing properly? I've checked all the settings in iTunes and on my iPod itself and there doesn't seem to be any reason why its not syncing? Do I need to update the iOS to 6.0.2? Or is there some other little hidden setting I've missed?

    @ Sambal:
My OSX is 10.7.5 Lion. I just gave up and decided to go back to Mac mail, iCal and contacts. I'm guessing the issue has something to do with the way iCal handles sync data from Outlook? Or perhaps the other way around? I did 2-seperate tests where I created a calendar event in Outlook and iCal. On the Outlook test, it synced to iCal, but wouldn't get pushed to my iPod touch calendar? (running iOS 6.0.1)
On the iCal test, it pushed the new event to my iPod within seconds! Also, when I created a calendar event directly on my iPod, that too would sync back to iCal within seconds as well. But not back to the Outlook calendar. It still amazes me that even today MS and Apple still have issues like this? I don't mind using Mac's programs, I just don't like how they have them all as 3-seperate running programs.
I prefer Outlook's all-in-one interface. I think Apple's software engineers need to do a complete makeover!

  • Syncing an outlook exchange and a regular outlook calendar to IPod Touch

I have a personal outlook calendar on my home machine and have had no problems syncing it with the IPod Touch.
However, when  I added the outlook exchange calendar I have from work onto that outlook program  (office 2010) and tried to sync with the IPod Touch, it only transfers appointments from the office outlook exchange calendar.  Nothing from the regular personal outlook calendar shows up any more on the IPod Touch.  Any suggestions so I can get all the information from both calendars onto teh IPod Touch?

Assuming you have a PC ,you can only sync one calender at a time. From the Usrs Guide:
    Calendars
    Â
You can sync calendars from applications such as iCal on a Mac, or from Microsoft
Outlook 2003, 2007, or 2010 on a PC. (On a Mac, you can sync calendars with multiple
applications. On a PC, you can sync calendars with only one application at a time.)

Any ideas? I'm unwilling to restore the ipod.

  • I Need a Search Tool for the Calendar on iPod touch 2G

I am trying to replace my old Tungsten E2 Palm Pilot with my iPod touch 2G -- I have my calendar and Mobile-Me set up and synced.
The one main thing that I need is a search function for the calendar on my iPod touch 2G. That would turn the touch into a serious business tool - instead of a game/music toy.
iCal has a great search function on my Macs - I want to be able to do that on the road with the touch.
I want to be able to see the date that something happened - or when I was someplace - by searching for a name on the touch calendar. Ideally, it would work like the search function on iCal.
Is there a way - or an APP- that will do that???

I asked the Apple Store here in Toronto regarding the Search or Spotlight function on the iPod Touch, which is non-existent. This feature is SO useful specially when I need to look for a past or future appointment(s) or email, or info from the Address Book. Why is this feature not included in the iPod Touch software as a basic function? I used to own a Palm PDA and even at its basic version, it had a Search function. I can easily look for names, events, memos, etc. Before iPod Touch came, I hoped that a gadget such as the Palm would be available from Apple and when the iPod Touch came out, I was SOOOO glad it surpassed the features of a Palm but hoped it had the Search of Spotlight feature that is so useful on the iMac. Can you please include on your next iPod touch Software upgrade this Search or Spotlight feature?

  • How to delete duplicate calendars on iPod touch?

Hi, I have duplicate calendars that show up in iTunes in the iPod sync prefs and on my iPod touch but that don't show up in iCal. Since they get all transferred to the iPod I have a huge amount of duplicate entries as I cannot deselect just one of them.
How would I go about deleting those entries from the iPod and/or the iPod sync preferences?

I have the same issue on my iPod Touch, but with only a handful of birthdays (not all birthday entries). I've tried removing the birthdays from the contact entries and then putting them back in, but that only removed 1 copy temporarily. When I put the birthday back into the contact entry and sync it shows only 1 date entry, but then after syncing again it goes back to 2 duplicate date entries.

  • Synching subscribed calendars to iPod Touch

I have the latest iTunes (9.2) and the latest iPod software (4). I use gCal and have successfully subscribed to it in iCal. I also delegated another category (Medical) of my gCal account to iCal. Everything works fine between iCal and gCal - they both update each other perfectly. However when I sync my iPod to iCal the "Medical" category doesn't take, it doesn't show up on my iPod. I have an 8 gig Touch which otherwise works well. Have I missed something that I can do or is this the way it is?
    Please advise. Thanks.

Open your iPod touch in iTunes, click the "Info" tab, scroll down to the "Advanced" section, check the box labeled "calendars," and sync.

  • Lost ical data on ipod touch during sync

Using mac book with snow leopard version 10.6.8.  I closed my mobile me account after it expired.  I am not using the cloud.  When I tried to sync my 2nd gen ipod touch, I lost all my ical data on my touch.  Before deleting mobile me, I exported all my calendar data from mobileme cals and imported all data into new calendars "on my mac".  The only way I could set up new calendars was by setting up a new group.  Don't know if this has anything to do with the problem.  Everything else on touch syncs.  I tried resetting the touch.  I also reset sync history in isync.  Nothing has worked so far.  How can I get my ical data to sync to my touch?

The "Time Zone Support" in settings on the iPod said Cupertino, USA.
I've turned that off now and it seems to have fixed the problem.
NB: There is a note in the settings that says "When off, events will display according to the time zone of your current location."
    Thanks for you help!
