Managing Music list on iPod via PC

Have a new iPod as old one died. Have transferred songs from PC to iPod, but when I go into Music list on Devices and iPod, the complete list is greyed out and I cannot play or delete any of them. Also having problems copying some music newly purchased and downloaded onto PC from iTunes onto iPod (coming up with 'no entry' type icon). Any ideas why?

Grey text when you look at the content and a lock symbol at the bottom of the screen just indicates that the iPod is set to sync automatically with iTunes. If you want to play the iPod songs through iTunes, delete songs from the iPod, drag songs from iTunes, add playlists to the iPod etc. you need to change the update setting to "manually manage songs and videos". The text will change from grey to black and everything will be directly accessible through iTunes:
Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone
Syncing Music to iPod
Something to remember about using an iPod in manual mode is that the "Do Not Disconnect" message will remain on the display until you physically eject the device: Safely Disconnect IPod
If you have an iPod Touch as far as I am aware your songs will always be greyed out. Set it to manual update as above and then click on the song(s) you want to remove and drag them off the iPod list.

  • ITunes Recognizes Only Pasrtial Music List from ipod

Hello. I dug out my drawer my older ipod (5th generation) and found that I had 1100 songs on it. However, when I tried to "import" the songs or add them as files, itunes only recognizes about 100 of the songs. The songs that are recognized are listed in alphabetical order A - C. Songs starting with "D" and on are not recognized. However, the ipod shows and play them all. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in Advance!

I'm pretty sure there's no way in iTunes to do what you're wanting it to do ...
But there is one thing you can TRY. I don't manually manage either of my iPods, so I'm not sure if this will work:
    1. Connect iPod and view it's contents in iTunes.
    2. Right-click the playlist in question and view the options there. If there is an Export Playlist option, you can try exporting it.
    3. Disconnect the iPod and then import the playlist back into iTunes and see what it does.
Not really sure what the outcome would be or if it's even possible, but you can try that.
Probably your best bet would be to try one of the third party file-copy and music management software programs like YAMB or CopyTrans. I'm not sure, but I'm guessing at least one of them can copy the playlist file into some sort of exported playlist file or something.

  • Music list in iPod won't show

I recently had a problem with iTunes (error 13019) that was already fixed. I recoverd my old library and everything was just fine.
Today, when I was trying to add a few more songs to my iPod (nano, 6th generation) the "Music" list under Devices was not showing. It was there until yesterday and now is not anymore. Any suggestions on why this happened? And, way more important, any suggestions on how can I fix it?
    Thank you very much!

There is a little triangle next to the iPod's name (under DEVICES in sidebar).  That "switch" toggles the "drop down" list of iTunes media types (including Music) indented under the iPod.  Make sure it is toggled so that the triangle points down.

  • Is it possible to manually manage music on the iPod Touch and still have your last played info updated?

Hi, I'm running low on my iPod Touch capacity so have set it to 'manually manage music'. However, when on this setting, it doesn't update iTunes with 'last played' information. Is there any way to enable this? I appreciate it's not a huge issue but it is something I ike.
    Thanks in advance people.

Very frustrating that I can't do this/figure it out. I want to drag music from my folder onto my ipod but now it makes me add it to itunes first. I don't want to. I also can;t see which songs I have on my ipod to edit them

Correction: The music on my iPod doesn't show up in the "Music" section in "iPod" in iTunes.

  • I am trying to synch my recently added music to my ipod via imported cd via library, but cant find tick box for this anymore. please help

I am trying to synch my recently added music via importing cd in library, the cd is in my itunes, but will not synch. When i had this problem before, a tick was not in the 'synch recently added music' box, but i cant find this now, my model number is MB528BT. Please help

What exactly happens when you try to sync?
Was the iPod previous synced to another iTunes library/computer?
Have you successfully synced from this iTunes library/computer before?

  • TS2830 Transfer songs onto Music listfor nano, comes up with sync error 13019 still appears to have transferred to music list on nano while plugged in but when you search on the unplugged ipod not there.

When i transfer a song from my itunes library to ipod nano it says "cannot syn 13019" it appears to transfer song to the music list on ipod but when you disconnect from the computer the songs aren't on the ipod

No, I can't use a charger - I need to recharge the iPod off the computer. (I'm often charging it while traveling with no access to a wall plug).
What you describe in your situation is completely different from what I'm talking about: You have iTunes on and you are syncing the iPod, and then you eject it from within iTunes. What I'm talking about is NEVER having iTunes on, and just plugging the iPod into the USB port and just recharging it, nothing else.
My goal: I want to be able to plug in, recharge, and unplug the iPod without ever touching the mouse or the keyboard or interacting with the computer at all.
I 100% know this is possible because that is the setup I've had for months, and it worked fine. But when I recently updated to iPod software version 1.2, some setting was changed and I can't figure out what. I know it is very simple, the solution, but I've forgotten how I did it in the first place.

  • How do I restore my ipod setting without erasing music on my ipod?

I lost  some music on my  ipod while it was connected to my itunes (after pressing something). I lost music files that were previously added from cds and from another computer. I had also lost my playlist. And lastly, when I my ipod is connected to my itunes, I am missing features that I used to have, such as being able to create a playlist directly onto my ipod (I no longer have "+" icon that allows me to add a playlist to my ipod), playing music on my ipod through itunes...and basically just manipulating music on my ipod via itunes in anyway. The list of music on my ipod is grayed out on itunes so I cannot do much of anything except add files from my itunes library to it.
Thus is there any way I can restore my settings on my ipod when connected to itunes, without erasing the current music files on my ipod?
This is very frustrating because I really just want to recover the  music and playlists I lost from my ipod, and I want to be able to have the settings restored when my ipod is connected to itunes. Senuti for windows cost money to restore music and I am not sure it will completly fix my issue anyways.
    Can anyone help?

Connect the iPod to the computer and restore via iTunes. If necessary, place the iPod in Recovery Mode to allow the restore.

  • HT1535 Is there a workaround when I can't 'manage' music manually w/erase & sync prompt?

I'm trying to put music from iTunes on my wife's iPhone 4S. I've checked 'manually manage' but when I click 'apply,' I get the erase-and-sync prompt. She doesn't want to lose whatever is on her phone. Is there a workaround for getting the music on there? Thanks.

As I said, all software has been updated - I just hadn't updated my OS listing in my discussions profile.
My Touch works just fine, I'm just limited to managing music in my general library in iTunes then syncing it - can't manage music within the iPod in iTunes - I can see it, but can't manage it.

  • Question re: manually managing music

If I manually manage music to my iPod/iPhone/whatever, are play counts still included from music that I listen to on the device? Or will it only sync play counts if I'm syncing to a playlist?

play counts are not updated when manually syncing.

  • Connect the device to your computer. Open iTunes. Select iPhone, iPad, or iPod in the Devices list. Click the Summary tab and select "Manually manage music and videos". Click Apply. but after that say's everything on my iPhone will be deleted

Connect the device to your computer.
    Open iTunes.
Select iPhone, iPad, or iPod in the Devices list.
Click the Summary tab and select "Manually manage music and videos".
    Click Apply.

It wil only erase the music and videos. Nothing else.

  • Cannot delete music from iPod nano (latest generation).  Have already selected "Manually Manage music and videos" but delete is unavailable from right click or Edit.

I have done everything I've seen recommended for deleting music (jncluding "manually manage").  Thanks for the assistance!!!

Did you Apply the change after selecting (checking the box for) Manually manage music and videos?
With the latest iTunes, if the sidebar is hidden, from the menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.
In the sidebar, select the iPod under DEVICES.  Click the toggle (to the left of iPod) to drop down the iPod's content list, indented under iPod.  Click on Music there.  Over to the right, the list of songs on the iPod is shown.  You can select songs there, right click on them, and select Delete from the contextual menu.  You can also select songs there, go up to the menu bar, and select Delete under Edit.  You can also select songs there, and just press the Delete key on the keyboard.
If you want to use automatic syncing, which is far more convenient than the manual method, and easily manage content on the iPod (add and remove songs), please post back.

  • IPod music list is faded

    Silly question perhaps but ...
My music library list is the right darkness on my computer screen but when i go to my iPod list (while iPod is connected), I cannot manipulate any of the songs or playlists. Strangely, the colour of this list is a light gray and I'm not sure what that means. Can somebody help? Thanks!

Grey text when you look at the content and a lock symbol at the bottom of the screen just indicates that the iPod is set to update automatically (sync). If you want to access the iPod directly, delete songs from the iPod, drag songs from iTunes etc. you need to change the update setting to "manually manage songs and videos. If you want to manage it manually then connect your iPod and click on the iPod icon in the iTunes source list to bring up the preference tabs in the main pane. In the Summary tab check the box "manually manage music and videos" and click Apply:
    Managing content manually on iPod
    iPod 101: Fill 'er Up
Something to remember about using an iPod in manual mode is that the "Do Not Disconnect" message will remain on the display until you physically eject the device. In that case use the Safely Remove Hardware icon in the Windows system tray on the desktop and check this link for alternative methods:: Safely Disconnect IPod

  • Why is the music list for my ipod classic grayed out in itunes?

why is the music list for my ipod classic grayed out in itunes?

I have a similar problem.  Originally, my iTunes advanced setting was set such that a shortcut to the song was copied into my music library so sometimes copying songs to my iPod resulted in them being grayed out.  I changed that setting some time ago and haven't had the problem until recently.
I don't know what to do.  here's the situation:
         1.  I have a song that is stored on my file system within My Documents. (it was purchased via Amazon)
         2.  Through iTunes I choose the File | Import file to library (or some text like that)
         3.  I navigate to the location of the song
         4.  I import it.
         5.  I can play the tune from the music library or from an internal PC playlist.
         6.  I then attempt to copy the song to my iPod.  When I do, it appears in the iPod's playlist grayed out.
I have done those steps countless times for dozens of songs without a problem.  Even others that I've purchased through Amazon.  What is so different this time?  I should mention that this problem NEVER happens if I buy the song through the iTunes store.  Only if I buy it from another source (e.g. Amazon).  WHY ???
