Managing photo book fonts

Hi
This topic may not be in the posted in the best discussion, please let me know if I should post elsewhere, thanks!
I am in the process of editing a book together, I have applied font attributes as I like i.e. bold, colour, size. This has lead to the inclusion of several different styles of text.
What is the best way to manage these styles so I could copy/apply them to future similar books? I'm guessing 'Font Book' is the key here, but how do I use it? - Where's the manual?! What is the difference between libraries & collections etc.? Any tips, links greatly appreciated!
TIA Steve

You certainly can set up a collection of Favorites in Font Book. But I'm not aware any way of setting up a way of applying a set of fonts and styles to a book except to go into the Setting pane when you first enter the book mode and set them there.
You might ask your Font Book question in the Tiger forum - Using OS X Tiger. There are some Font Book threads in there.
Just found out where the settings for the books are recorded by iPhoto. It's in the Library.iPhoto file. Each book will have all of the info recorded for it. However, the info will not be there until you create the book. The it will be in that file with the default fonts listed. The following is some of the content for a book with Blacklight as the font:

I had to make some changes so the content would show properly.

  • Photo Books Fonts?

I have an extra-large Photobook nearly ready to send for printing. It was laid out in iPhoto, but as I have just purchased Aperture I may yet transfer everything there and fine tune things prior to transmission.
However...let us assume that I do not. For the sake of this question, let's assume this will be an iPhoto-only project.
If I change the fonts used in the photobook away from those preset faces in the chosen Theme....very possibly to older format PostScript fonts....will they survive the transmission for printing? Will the book indeed match the preview....even though one or two fonts are somewhat obscure?
Please...I am seeking an answer that is something more substantial than just the 'it will match' answer I have seen most people get to this question.
As it appears censorship runs rampant hereabouts, I'll repeat: Larry...leave it alone....move on to another post. Let someone else answer.
    Thanks.

Sorry that you do not want the only answer that IF you do the preview correctly (and were given the link to the correct method) that is is unconditionally guaranteed to match - which is the correct answer - and pretty simple to most people.
And note that While you think you are REALLY BIG STUFF - it is too bad that you simply can not understand simple and correct answers - and that your only way of expressing your limited intellect is to post personal attacks - that is HIGHLY inappropriate
And it is really interesting to see that you have only had TWO (2) post in history and in both you are nasty and make personal attacks against the people who are taking their personal time to help you out of your lack of understanding simple things

  • Photo Book text font incorrect in preview?

Help! I'm using two fontsin a photo book: papyrus for title and baskerville for all other text. In Aperture 3.4.5 everything is fine. When saving as a pdf or previewing to buy, the baskerville font is misaligned at the bottom and looks totally different. How do I correct this or is it a bug?
    Thanks,
    John

  • Trouble with viewing font on spine of Photo book.  I can't find a way to view and edit the text which appears on the spine of the dustcover or the book itself when printed.

I can't find a way to view and edit the text which appears on the spine of the dustcover or the photo book itself.  When I preview the book it appears on the dustcover and the book, but not when I'm back in the creation or editing windows.  I've printed 4 books in a series and two spines are one font size, and two others are a different font size.  One of the books has a shortened title on the book spine.

The text on the spine will be the same text that is in the Title text box on the title page.  You can change the font and style of that text just like you change any text in Aperture. Aperture will size and center the spine text for you
If you want the content or the font and style  of the text to be different from your Title box text then you have to trick the program a bit.  Put the text that you want in the spine into the Title text box and then move that box to a place on the page where it will not be visible when printed ( Y coordinate -1.0 inches for example).  Don't move it too far away or it will be hard to get back to in order to make an edit.    Then make a new text box on the title page and put the text you want on the cover in that.  (Or make a book without text on the cover , but with text on the spine).
You are 100% correct in that you can not preview this unless you preview the printed book

  • Can I print the photo book with any fonts?

I would like to print a photo book using iphoto. Is it possible to print this by using any fonts?

Don't get up your hopes, Old Toad . I never tried to buy a photo book from the iPad.
The documentation does not say much:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5037
It only mentions, that you can change the font size:
    Edit text on a page
Tap Projects, and tap the photo book to open it.
Double-tap the page containing the text you want to work with.
    Do the following:
Align the text: Tap the text box, and choose an alignment style from the menu that appears directly above the text box.
Choose the font size: Tap the text box, and tap the font size you want.
Make changes to the text: Double-tap the text box, and type.
No mention of the supported font. Probably the fonts will depend on the country of the Print Products Store you are using:
To change countries, tap at the top-left corner of the screen, and select another country from the list.

  • Change font for entire photo book?

    Hello,
I'm currently creating a new photo book in Aperture 3.4
I would like to change the font for the text boxes to something else.
Can this be done in one action/command?
Or is it possible to change the default font (and size) that is used?
I now have to change the font and size for every text box I want to use.
    Kind regards,
    emeu1

I have the same question: is there a way to globally change the font in a Aperture photo book?  Bumpity-bump-bump-bump.  Thank you.

  • My iPad isn't syncing properly - It says it is syncing but then none of my new music, photos, books, or podcasts have been added!

This is getting really annoying as syncing my iPad 1 now take forever. It says it is syncing and goes through all the motions, and it does sync my apps,
but none of my musi, photos, books or podcasts, even though it's only half full so it has plenty of space. What I do at the moment is use "autofill" to add the music and podcasts and then I drag the new books from my iTunes library to my iPad in Itunes (I have a PC, by the way), but I still haven't found a slution for my photos - at present it's supposed to add all the photos in one of my folders on the computer, but it hasn't added the new ones in a long while.
I suspect this might have started when I added iOS 5, but I'm not 100% sure. Another thing I had lots of difficulty with earlier is that the music I synced was all greyed out and couldn't be played, but I solved that by choosing "manually manage music and videos" in Options. This might be why it's not syncing properly, but last time I tried reverting that it just greyed out my music again! What do I do?
Oh, one last thing - the music and books I'm adding at the moment aren't purchased from the Itunes stores, if that helps. Just the podcasts, and they seem to eventually add themselves after the sync.
Thanks in advance for any help you can give me!

    Hey orangesarecool
Enable Manually manage music and videos and then drag and drop the songs that you want on there. Toggle it back to see if it changes.

  • Is it possible to reorder an iPhoto book 2 years later? My hard drive crashed and the photo book is no longer in my iPhoto but Apple printed it for me before the crash.  Would Apple still be able to print another copy?

Is it possible to reorder an iPhoto book 2 years later? My hard drive crashed and the photo book is no longer in my iPhoto but Apple printed it for me before the crash.  Would Apple still be able to print another copy?

For future books you might consider doing what I do:  create a separate library for each book andcopy the photos for the book from your working library to the book library with iPhoto Library Manager.
When the book is completed and ordered burn the library package to a CD, DVD or external HD to archive it so it's available for editing and reordering at a later date if needed.

  • Color profiles for I photo books

Is there a desired color profile to use for printing books with i photo
My images are currently adobe-rgb. jpegs brought in from CS
When I print the images thru CS they look great.
When i print them thru I photo book or the PDF they look very dark and muddy...and would assume the same of the book printing online.
any ideas on how to get the best print.
Is there a color profile availabe from the online book printers or are we just winging it
Also tried converting one page to S-RGB Still Muddy / dark thru i photo book
and PDF Print. And just fine thru CS
    Any Ideas??
    Thank you

I guess I am going to throw caution to the wind and see what happens.
Only one way to find out, Right
Though I did go back and lighten my images. Also
Ran color synch utility, which fixed 11 corrupt color profiles.(none of the 11 profiles pertained to i photo)
I guess I am afraid to use pref setter,, to set the key embed color profile.
Confused as to what that means??? Does that mean that all my CS Adobe-RGB jpegs will keep their color profile???
Also implanted one image as an SRGB vs the rest which will all be AdobeRGB
Oddly my color management in CS is almost Flawless. Yet, get me out of CS and I am completely lost!!!! Complicated stuff
Toad, I did want to pass on that AdobeRGB 1998 is a much more robust color profile then SRGB especially when it come to printing on Epson. It might be worth experimenting with and if you really want to get into it there is also
Pro photo RGB which is Huge color space, but a beast to work with
    Here is a link

Will report back on my book

  • Can't load photo book after crash

Hello, after spending 2+ hours creating a photo book, my mac suddenly crashed, I think due to the high temperature of the computer. The iPhoto application was still running when the computer shut down. After rebooting, I can't load my photo book anymore. The application says "Loading Book", but it stays like this forever.
Is it possible to recover, at least partially, the work that I was doing? Is there an actual "photo book" file somewhere in the computer?
Thank you... I'm quite frustrated right now.

In the future you could do what I do: create a new library for each book I make. I assemble the photos in my primary library into an album and move that album to the book library with iPhoto Library Manager. That makes for a smaller library which can be easier to backup and archive for use and ordering additional copies at a later date: Old Toad's Tutorial #9a - Archiving an iPhoto 7/8 Book for Use/Editing/Ordering at a Later Date.

  • Can't create photo book in iPhoto 9.6 (910.29)

I am trying to create a photo book in iPhoto. I have created books in the past but well over a year ago so I don't know when the  issue could have started. When I click on create, seemly nothing happens however when I quit iPhoto and start it up again, I find a copy of the photo book in my albums list rather than under projects. It does not behave like a photo book as I can't edit it and the display is different. I can't even open old photo books. I have tried countless things to try to make it work including: renaming my iPhoto library and then reinstalling iPhoto. With the new library created by reinstalling iPhoto, I am able to create a Photo Book. But when I switch to my old library (45, 000+ pictures and many years of my life), it again won't create a photo book. Well my library may be corrupted, but when I rebuild it, repair it, etc. there is no change in the behaviour of iPhoto.
Any suggestions on how to fix this problem. Many Thanks.
Using a iMac and OS 10.10

Then apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - run Option #4 to rebuild the database.  Repeat with Option #1 if necessary.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button and select the library you want to add in the selection window..
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • Photo Book - issue with generating full size picture in PDF file

    Need some assistance here.
I have created a photo book that I would like to order. In the middle of the book I have 2 pages that contain a full size picture on each of the pages. When I generate the PDF file one of these two pictures do not generate correctly leaving an incorrectly rendered rectangle in the bottom left hand corner. 80% of the time it is on of the 2 large 8x10 pictures, the other 20% it is the other 8x10 picture. Aperture does indicate the dpi is large enough to support a quality 8x10 photo.
I have exported jpeg files for each of these pictures and there were no problems. I am not sure by I have this problem in creating the PDF. Does any one see a potential issue with the book? When I order the photo book is it done through he PDF file or are the pictures sent in?
Because of the issue I am cautious to order the Photo Book, but would like to do so.
Any thought or feedback? Is this something that will come through as problem with the photo book as well?
    Thanks

    Hi ejg999,
I have a similar problem running 10.5.2/ Aperture 2.0 trial.
My 15800*4700 pixel (19.8mb) panorama was completely screwed up when printing the book to PDF. I did not span the pict over 2 pages as the center part would not be visible in the book's fold. I created 2 full size pages, resized the frames and adjusted their position.
The print just shows hundreds of small squares, some seem ok, some are blue, some are rendered partially. Totally unusable.
The physical memory was not the problem as I had at least 500mb free during the printing operation.
I printed the book twice: same problem. I thought shutting down Aperture would resolve the error. but all my pics were gone. And the Time Machine did not backup while Aperture was running (still a bug). Aaaaaarghhhh.
I managed to restore my work. I will try to create a smaller copy of the panorama and try to print.
BTW, what is the size of your photo creating the problems?
    regards

  • A simple way to apply crop from photo book frame to image version?

    Hi
    Running MacOS X 10.8.5, Aperture 3.4.4
I have the following workflow for photobooks creation (a custom photobook):
    0) Prepare an album with photos I'd like to create my book from.
For 99% of my photos I have TIFF files as masters. Not RAW files.
    I use managed library.
    1) Create a book layout (place images, select different crop factors for frames, etc)
    2) Looking at specific page adjust photos using Aperture adjustments (exposure, color balance) to make images to looks similar on the page
    3) A the final step, apply some adjustments from external plugins.
Here I have the question from subject:
    * The Aperture  sends the whole file to plugin (i.e. some of Nik collection plugins, but it might be a different plugin)
    * But on my photo book page I have a different crop factor (i.e. TIFF master is 2:3, on photo book page I frame it to 1:2)
    * As the result some of the adjustments I did in external plugin are not visible on the photobook page, which produces a different visual effect, which I don't want.
Currently, to workaround this, I have to manually apply the same crop factor to image version, then make a version copy, open the plugin. Only after these steps Aperture will send the desired crop factor to external plugin.
This is some sort of technical work which I need to do manually, no brain is involved here - I'm looking to some ways how to automate this.
As the result, I'd like the crop factor from photo frame from Aperture custom book to be applied to image version.
Any ideas on scripts/external programs are welcome.

  • Right in the middle of the process of creating a hardcover photo book, a message came up, telling me: This theme is no longer available in iPhoto. Please choose: Delete book / Cancel / Change Theme. No matter what I select. What`s the problem???

No matter what option I select- iPhoto either crashes or the beachball starts spinning. Either way, I can`t access the photo book anymore.
Is there anything I can do?
The selected theme is definitely still available in iPhoto, so this can`t be the real problem...
I have been sitting on the book work for days...
    Thanks for any help!
    Dennis

Make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
         User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
If that doesn't help   launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Import some photos and check to see if the same problem persists. If it does then a reinstall of iPhoto is warrented.
If the problem does not appear in the test library then your current library is damaged.  In that case make a temporary, backup copy (select the library and type Command+D) and  apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #1, followed by #3 and then #4.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.
