Managing Podcasts - Podcasts Mixed Up With Songs

I know from viewing other posts on the forum that podcast management is not a strong suite of Apple right now. However, does anyone know if there is a way to NOT have podcasts mixed in with songs when selecting "Music, Songs" or "Music, Artist, All" on the iPod (5th Generation)?
P.S. When "Podcasts" is selected from the Main Menu, all podcasts groups show up just fine.

I've had that problem before too, a good way to fix this is to set your podcasts into a Compilation group (right click the song in iTunes, press "GetInfo" and go to "info" tab; at the bottom check "part of compilation"). This way the podcasts won't show up in Album and Artist listings but will still show up in Songs (and also shows up under compilations) on your iPod...
Hope this helps.

  • How to get Podcasts not to play with songs?

    Hello:
I just downloaded about 10 podcasts, and this is the first time that I have downloaded any podcasts. I noticed that when I started playing my music that the podcasts are also in my music lineup, and therefore they also play with the music alphabetically. I would like to seprate my podcasts from my music. How can I do this?

You can create a "Music Only" smart playlist in iTunes with the settings:
Select "match all of the following rules" and set filters:
    Kind - contains - audio
    and
Genre - is not - Podcast
This playlist will exclude podcasts and anything not audio (eg videos). In the future you can add additional filters to exclude audiobooks, etc. If you want to play music, just play this playlist.

My 1G Touch has suddenly stopped downloading (by wifi)  -some- podcasts and even -some- free songs from iTunes. The download page comes up but where there used to be a 'free' button there is nothing. I've done a full restore and problem persists.
No answer on first visit to Genius Bar. Did the suggested full wipe with no sucess so I'm heading back with my laptop in hand to challenge them to find a solution.
        Can you solve this puzzler?

Try swiping your finger across the podcast then tap Delete.

  • You are signed in with a different Apple ID than previously used with Podcasts. Do you want to sync these podcast subscriptions and stations with "******"?

Why am I getting this error message every time I open iTunes? I'm giving the option of Sync or don't Sync and click sync and there are no problems. But why does it open with: You are signed in with a different Apple ID than previously used with Podcasts. Do you want to sync these podcast subscriptions and stations with “*****”?

  • When I delete a podcast, it immediately reappears with the icloud next to it.  How do I delete it from the list?

What's deal?  When I delete a podcast, it immediately reappears with the icloud next to it.  How do I delete it from the list so that it stays gone?  I only want unplayed episodes.  I have tried all aspects of preferences but this does nothing to help.  I couldn't even delete an episode until I downloaded it, so I thought.  After the downloads, I deleted it only to have it reappear with the iCloud icon next to it.....Thanks for any help!

What is reappearing is just the list entry with the indication that it is available for download - it's not taking up any space on your computer. You can remove it by control- or right-clicking it and choosing 'delete'.
The recent changes in iTunes have confused a lot of people. Here is a summary of the situation:
Only the most recent episode shows when you first subscribe. In the default  'My Podcasts' view click 'Old episodes' to show earlier episodes, click 'Done' to hide them or 'Add all' to keep them there and also add them to List view.
Alternatively, in 'List' view control- or right-click on the name of the podcast or the episode and choose 'Show old episodes' to reveal all the previous episodes.
In both views you can now delete both downloaded or un-downloaded episodes from both views by control- or right-clicking on the name of the episode.
In both views each episode now has a blue circle to the left showing it as unplayed. Each episode can be double-clicked to be played as a stream without downloading it first (so you don't have to wait for it to download fully). Click the cloud icon at right to download it (as you will have to to sync it to an iPod). Note that if you click the cloud icon to the right of the title of the podcast itself, rather than an episode, you will initiate a download of all episodes.

  • No video when viewing podcast stream page made with iWeb08

I created a podcast project yesterday with iWeb08. Used compressor 3 ipod 420 preset to enode a .m4v. It plays fine on a Mac but PC users only hear the audio when going to podcast streaming site made with iWeb08.
These are some language lessons that I need to get running today:
    http://www.olc.edu/~bchargingcloud/Lak-language/Podcast/Podcast.html
    thank you

I took a look at your site on a Windows machine, in Internet Explorer - it DOES play the video, but only if QuickTime version 7 is installed. I.E. is not currently designed to alert viewers that they need the QT-7 plug-in - so you may need to add that information to your site.
Anybody with an iPod or iPhone will already have QT-7 installed on their Windows machine.
Fascinating project, by the way! Congratulations!

  • Movie mixed with songs

    Hi,
I have 80 GB ipod. I had loaded videos and songs to it and it had been working gr8 all these while. Today when i opened my ipod to play some movies, i saw that the video list has become empty. All the loaded videos have mixed with the songs in the ipod. Now if i try to run those videos it just plays the sound not the video. Why did my video mix with songs? How do I rectify it so that all videos are resstored into the video list as before? Please help..

  • Help with mixing my first song in Logic Pro X

    Hi everyone,
I am a newbie with regards to Logic Pro X but I feel I am finally in position to mix my first song and I just wondered if anyone had any tips on how I can go about mixing my very first song?
Step-by-Step instructions would be perfect. As this would allow me to learn in a structured way. It would also be helpful if you could give me a brief definition of each effect for example EQ, Reverb, Compression etc and what they are used for in the mixing process.
I would also love to know what volume levels other users use for each specific track when mixing a song.
What volume levels do you use for these tracks/instruments when mixing?
    1) Lead Vocals
    2) Background Vocals
    3) Drums
    4) Synthesizer Chords
    5) Synthesizer Riffs
    6) Strings
    7) Horns
    8) Guitars Riffs
    9) Guitar Solo`s
    10) Percussion
And lastly I would love to know with regards to the 10 different instruments above how I should pan these individual items/tracks? I have heard so much about Panning vocals to the left side and right side for example but I am unsure why musicians do this or what effect it is supposed to have?
    Many thanks.

    As octopi mentions...
There is no "magic bullet" here. Everyone has their own way of doing this... mixing is truly an art, like painting, you choose the canvas or medium (sidewalk, building...etc.) and you choose you subject, and colors, brushes, palette knife... give everyone the same tools and subject and you will have as many individual paintings as participants... and when you think about it, isn't that what you want?  There are rules and there are no rules, only when you fully understand this paradox will you have reached mixing nirvana, grasshopper.
You are correct, fundamentals first. If someone tells you to set a compressor with certain settings... you won't know why those settings were chosen. Take the times to learn the basics.. for effects you want to first learn Equalization, Compression and Reverb.
In your listing you didn't mention Bass.
Traditionally, a mix starts with mixing Drums and Bass.. be careful not to get them as loud as possible, you will need headroom as you add instruments. Traditionally, every instrument in a mix needs to have it's own space, this is done with panning and equalization. If you have a solid bass part.. you don't want the guitar chords to have so much bass they conflict with the bass instrument.
Sound on Sound has had some good mixing articles.

  • Since upgrading to 7.0.3 (iPhone 5 64gb, with iTunes Match enabled) all of my music wiped off my phone.  Downloading it again, most of the artwork has been mixed up with other artists, and I'm no longer able to stream or download over 3G? Any ideas?

Since upgrading to 7.0.3 (iPhone 5, 64gb, with iTunes Match enabled) almost all of my music has vanished from my phone (weirdly some hasn't).
Downloading it again, most of the artwork has been mixed up with other artists, and I'm no longer able to stream or download over 3G (all tracks greyed out), though my network settings etc are all set correctly.
Lastly since upgrading to iOS 7.0.1 (and beyond) Genuis has become effectively useless: it continually asks me to connect to wi-fi, and if I do it creates playlists mostly composed of tracks by the same artists or those very obviously linked to them- previously it created brilliant, nuanced playlists.
Are these things connected, and how do I fix them?

I have done this on numerous occasions but I think that my Iphone has a defect. After many tries, reinstalls, deletion of content, changing content to be stored on external hard drive, deleting itunes and cleaning computer I managed to get all of the songs on and things seemed okay for a while.
The problem returned about a week ago after downloading a new album from Itunes. I now have 12.5k of songs leaving 10gb spare on Iphone which should be more than enough room to operate properly. Last night it seemed to be dowloading ok (after doing all of the above again for the umpteenth time) this morning it revealed that it had just synched 2.5k of songs and 18gb of "other" on the contents bar. it wont synch now as it says its over capacity. So the 18gb of "other" would probably be corrupted data that means it must corrupt each song as it tries to synch it.
The 2.5k of songs it did synch are working on the Iphone as is every song in the library on Itunes. I did completely delete the new album I bought and redownloaded it from the store then tried to synch just that album and it worked fine.
Just about time to dump apple I think!

  • How can I load the mix of one song for another song?

I'm going to be mixing a live gospel album with 9 tracks of drums, bass, guitar, piano, strings, organ, lead vocals and 6 tracks of choir vocals. Each song will basically be mixed the same except for variations in the choir levels and lead vocals. I want to mix this in logic but I don't want to create a mix for each song from scratch. All the audio tracks will be consistiently on the same track, meaning Bass-trak 1, guitar-trak 10 etc... for each song. What would be the easiest way to do this without creating a mix from scratch for each song.
    Thanks

Hi. I find myself in this situation a lot, and eventually settled on this method.
Mix the first track the way you want it, and getting your levels and plugins settled. Save the song as the title of that particular song. Then, select everything in the arrange window, and delete it. If you are asked to delete or keep audio files, click keep, cos you don't want to lose recorded audio. If you have set markers, delete those too. if you have any automation, select track automation>delete all automation of all tracks.
You are then set with a clean sheet with your tracks labelled, levels set and all the bells and whistles. Now do a SAVE AS and call it something like KICKASSGOSPELTEMPLATE or even save it as a logic template. Then, with this template open, open up another one of your songs, select everything in your arrange window, copy it to your clipboard, move to your template song, go bar number 1, and paste. You will be asked whether you want to copy instruments or tracks. I can't remember which one you select, but a quick trial and error should see you straight. All the audio tracks should come down onto the right audio objects and hitting play should have you almost to where you want to be.

  • Has anyone figured out how to make the Yamaha 01V96i mixer work with Logic 9.1.8

Has anyone figured out how to make the Yamaha 01V96i mixer work with Logic 9.1.8 as a control surface ?

    In YAMAHA01v96i:
Go to DIO/SETUP select Generic DAW. Go to MIDI settings page and set the desired port (personally I use Number 1), Select the same audio frequency you use in your DAW (I use 44.1KhZ)...at this point You should save a scene in you 01V96i to avoid to repeat all the procedure again.
Open studio manager, go to patch and set the input port from 17 to 32 respectively to USB1-USB16 (this will give you the return from you DAW to the 01v96i
Save again the scene overwriting the old one.
    in LOGIC
Click on preferences, select Audio then select 01v96i, then click on control surface and select Mackie design Baby HUI and in the midi session set the same port that you've been setting on the Yamaha 01V96i (Port 1 if you follow this example).
    That's more or less it.
    It worked for me...so far

  • Attached mixing board with audigy sound card probl

i am using a mixing board with an audigy sound card the porgram im using has 2 channels a and b the music plays only on one port i used to be able to sue up the 2 different songs on 2 volume controls now both songs play in the 2 channels but sound is only controlled by one volume control?it has played properly for over 3 years with no problems until tonight?anyone have any ideas?thanks

Okay, I'm assuming you mean you have a stereo connection to rear Line-out and 2 and that you want both Line-outs to play the same stereo signal. If you are trying for something different, then post additional explanation, and we can go from there. I have not heard of an SB9400 before. You should be able to find the serial number on a white sticker on the card. That would identify the model. I think all Audigies have a Speaker Settings applet. So in Speaker Settings, do you have 4/4. speakers selected? If you have an EAX Console, do you have a CMSS3D option? (It might be called simply CMSS on some Audigies.) If so, select that. If you have a stereo surround option, select that. For the Audigy 2 ZS, for example, CMSS3D stereo surround will route the same stereo signal to Line-out & 2 (and optionally to Line-out 3).
