Managing song directly on the ipod

I am very new to this, so I am sorry if this is a very fundamental question. I moved my music off my computer's internal drive (ran out of disk run) and put it on an external drive. When I travel, I don't bring the external drive with me. Can I manage my files directly on the ipod itself - create paylists, change genre or song name or album name using itunes and the ipod? Any advise is appreciated.

Hey JenYo,
Thanks for the question. After reviewing your post, it sounds like a few songs will be skipped. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help you isolate or resolve the issue.

Also, is it possible to rate videos directly on the iTouch?

    Hi jackhowson,
As Micromen said, you can rate songs directly on your iPod Touch.
However with videos, currently you can't! You'll have to rate them on your computer. If you would like to ask Apple this feature, click [Name|http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipodtouch.html] and fill out the form.

  • Can you edit a playlist you make directly on the iPod Touch?

Okay my iPod, I think came with a playlist "On-the-Go". I've created 2 other playlists when I was synced and added some songs. Now I've purchased some songs directly from my iPod Touch, they are not on my computer. Now I would like to add those songs to the playlists I've created on the iPod Touch. On the "on-the-go" playlist there is an edit option on top of the screen but that option isn't on the 2 playlists I've created. I really don't want to sync (my own dumb reasons, but will if I must). I would really like to manage it directly on the iPod.
Can it or can it not be done?

No, not from the Touch interface. Editing is limited to the OTG playlist before you re-sync to iTunes. Once you sync, any OTG list you created will essentially become a regular playlist and cannot be edited without iTunes.

  • Can songs be deleted directly off the iPod?

Can songs be deleted directly off the iPod without connecting to the computer? A co-worker purchased an iPod but decided he didn't want it and wants to return it so he deleted the program off his computer. He asked me how to get it off the iPod. I told him I didn't think he could that I knew of. Anyone know?

Can songs be deleted directly off the iPod without connecting to the computer?
    No.

  • Id3 tags for songs already on the ipod

I have properly edited my id3 tags for songs already on the ipod. How can I update the tags for the same music that is on my PC???

So, any idea on how to get the tags updated in the Library?
Yes. Repeat your edits on the songs in the Library.
In the future, don't edit stuff directly on the iPod. Edit it in iTunes and then sync the iPod to copy the changes to it.

  • I recently bought a shuffle 2nd generation.  When I went to upload my music files from my computer, I began by dragging the files and placing them directly to the ipod itself, not the library.  How do I put those in my library?

How can I move my songs from my ipod to my library?  I try to simply drag and drop, but nothing happens.  I also deleted the songs that I moved from my computer to the ipod.  I figured that since it was in my itunes, I didn't need them saved on my computer.  I didn't realize I was dragging and dropping my songs directly to my ipod until it was too late.  My wife noticed what i was doing and brought it to my attention that I wasn't dropping them into my library.  Please help.

So if I understand you correctly, you are wanting to copy the content/music that is currently on your iPod Shuffle to your iTunes library?  If so, you'll only be able to make this happen by using some sort of third party software as iTunes does not allow you to sync from the iPod to iTunes (with the exception of iTunes purchases).
See this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering the different methods and software available to assist you with the task of copying content from your iPod back to your PC and into iTunes.

  • On Ios 7 how do you delete songs directly on the iPhone

on ios 7 how do you delete songs directly on the phone

    i think i stumbled onto a solution.
the upgrade to os7 brought a bunch of music into my phone i didn't care to hear anymore.
(free downloads from the itunes twitter feed..some of them are good, most of them i normally delete immediately)
i had 3 pesky songs that would not allow me to delete.
every other song in my library gave me the option to delete, just not the ones i never wanted to hear again.
..super frustrating when the song keeps starting over everytime you touch it while scrambling for a delete option.
they were purchases which i'd hidden.
i plugged to computer and tried to use iTunes to delete but they did not appear.
all "show all" options for music and video were off.
    itunes match was off.
    all automatic downloads were off.
    "show all music" was off.
i logged out of my apple ID for several minutes.
i think this may have given time for my account to resynchronize the items i didn't want to see anymore.
i've logged back in and they're still gone.
i don't care if i hear a new eric clapton song again for the rest of the year thank you.

  • I have a 3rd gen iPod touch and I downloaded the most recent itunes, ever since I did, only the first song syncs to the ipod. As soon as it gets to the second, it xtill says its syncing. However, nothing happens. How do I fix this?

I have a 3rd gen iPod touch and I downloaded the most recent itunes, ever since I did, only the first song syncs to the ipod. As soon as it gets to the second, it still says its syncing. However, nothing happens. How do I fix this? I have restored and updated the ipod. I have the new iTunes. I have restarted my computer checked the connection and everything.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync all music and resync
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • TS3833 I am receiving this error when syncing my ipod: iTunes could not copy "song name" to the iPod "name" because an unknown error occurred (-50).  I am using iTunes version 10.6.3.25. Why?

I am receiving this error when syncing my ipod: iTunes could not copy "song name" to the iPod "name" because an unknown error occurred (-50).  I am using iTunes version 10.6.3.25. Why?

Right click the filename that won't download and selsct 'Get Info'. Look at the file path, does it have a //?// in it? That is a problem with Amazon downloads that prevent iTunes from finding the file. Use 'Add Folder' to add the album to your library and try syncing it again

  • Can't see the songs listed on the IPOD in Itunes

I cannot click on the IPOD administrator when connected to Itunes and get the song listing on the IPOD shuffle.  All I get is the IPOD shuffle settings screen (showing Software version 1.0.4, capacity, serial # etc)- no listing of the songs,  This is a recent problem - in the last 2 weeks. I have downloaded latest IPOD and ITUNES software and it does not fix the problem.
    Can someone please help?

Not dumb...    It's actually a bit confusing with the latest version of iTunes, and it only affects 1st and 2nd gen shuffle users.
Before, it was Settings and Content.  And they clearly looked like separate "tab" choices.  iTunes 11 changed the wording to Settings and On This iPod, and it's harder to see the separation as "button" choices.  So, it looks like it says, "Settings on this iPod."  On other iPods, it starts with Summary (not Settings) there are more button choices there (not just two), so it's not as confusing that the last one is On This iPod.
Thanks for reporting back with the outcome.

  • ITunes "Updates" every song synced to the iPod every time it is connected

Since the update of iTunes to 9.1.1, every time I connect my 3G iPod Touch (32GB) to my Macbook iTunes "Updates" every song synced to the iPod. I have seen this before when iTunes has a new revision, but it usually only happens the first time the iPod is attached after iTunes is updated. Now, it is happening every time.
I have restored the iPod to its virgin state, but that did not change anything. Any ideas?

  • ITunes won't take songs OFF of the iPod (iTunes 7, vid)

    Hello!
Well, I"m loving the new stuff - mostly. However, I've noticed the "Purchased music transfer" is keeping around 400 MB of music on the iPod, after I've deleted it from the iTunes library.
Why would I delete 400 mb of songs (around 100) that I 'bought'? They were freebies and promotions over several months. I dropped them on an external drive and removed them from iTunes. When I sync either of my iPods (9-month old Vid/2 year old clickwheel), it prompts "There is purchased music on this iPod that is not in your iTunes library. Would you like to transfer?" No, I would not, I say. You see, I have only 900 MB free on my clickwheel, and I'd like to use those extra 400 MB for transfering files between my Macs (via FW Disk Mode).
In any case, I'm essentially looking for a way to restore the default iTunes 6-style iPod Syncing - that is, exactly the same on the iPod that it is on the iTunes library.
    Tips?

  • Songs selected restarting the iPod. Corrupt iPod Control file?

My friend has a fifth gen iPod that seems to be on the fritz. Apparently the songs she loads on the iPod don't work when she disconnects it. The she tries to select them, the iPod turns off and then restarts. Has any one had this problem before or knows how to fix it? She's tried the built in error check tool and ran the diagnostic. Thanks for the advice, but unfortunately I know that the songs aren't affected by the EQ. I'm pretty sure that it is either one song that is corrupt that is causing this to happen or that the iPod Control file that manages the loading and playing of the music is corrupt somehow.
Yeah, I really don't expect too many people to even understand what that diagnostic garble actually means let a lone read it. I did notice after I posted this that the iTunesHelper was not running at the time. Since my friend lives in a different state I really can't check to see if it's on or not. I'm going to see if I can just restart the iTunesHelper (if I can figure out how) and see if that does the trick.
