Managing stock footage from different projects

We're trying to figure out how to manage our stock footage. What we want to do is take stock clips out of a finished project, move them into a project that contains only stock footage, and then delete the project they originated in. That way we have all our stock footage in a single project that we can call up whenever we need to use it. Of course, we can do this manually by selecting the clips, copying them into our Stock project capture scratch and then re-connecting, but this is hugely time consuming. Any suggestions on a faster way to do this? We've thought about using Media Manager, but it seems that would only work the first time we created the Stock project. After that, with stock from other projects, it seems like we'd have to import and re-connect from whatever file Media Manger puts the clips into.

Whoops. Didn't realize that. New forums got me all confused. Thx Tom.

  • Dynamic link confusing two separate AE compositions in PPro from different projects

I am using CS5 Master Collection for Windows 7 (64 bit) on an HP Pro desktop (Intel core 2 duo, 6Gb RAM). The tower has two hard drives installed (no RAID). CS5 is installed on the original C drive along with the OS, but the working files, footage etc are all on the larger, secondary F drive.
I am working on a DVD project consisting of several seperate PPro projects. Each project has been colour corrected in AE using dynamic linking. Recently two of my projects suddenly became mixed up, by which I mean the video (not the audio) from one AE composition in one project has taken the place of another in another project. The clip remains the same length, but the link apears to be referencing the wrong clip during playback. Interestingly, there are two clips on the track above the affected clip that fade out and in at either end, during the dissolves between clips, the correct footage plays. It is only when the clip plays by itself that the problem occurs. The next clip also has the same error, though the problem only occurs for half the clip and then suddenly corrects itself. Just to be clear, All clips have been rendered, there are no more than two video tracks on the sequence, and I have tried replacing the composition from the asset menu (in which the clip plays back correctly), but the problem remains in the sequence.
I hope that descrition is clear enough. My guess is some kind of file path error in the dynamic link, perhaps due to the separate hard drive. But I really wouldn't know. I'm very pressed for time right now and I'd prefer not to go against workflow and re-edit a new composition in AE, I would also like to understand what is going on in case it happens again.
Any help with ths problem would be appreciated,
    J

Thanks Colin, I tried what you suggested with both the AE Project that it should be referencing and the AE project it is erroneously referencing but both failed to fix the issue. Its as if a hidden clip were laid over the top of the one I want to play. Frustrating.

It's not the comps that are the problem; it's the project file names themselves. You can have all the comps in a project named the same thing, and it'll be fine, but naming projects incrementally is an issue. After Effects includes a versioning function (Save and Increment) that will create a new AE project file with a serial number, e.g. AE Project 01, AE Project 02, etc. This is all well and good if you're just working in After Effects, but Dynamic Link gets confused and will usually start looking at the later project file for comps. That will just create a big mess, as you've found. Changing the names of the project files won't help things relink automatically properly, but it can help you fix things. Make all your DL AE comps offline in your Pr projects, and name your AE projects in a manner that is not serial (give them more random names). Select your offline AE comps, and right-click > Link Media, and point to the new AE project. Things should link up correctly then--but if they don't, you'll just have to remove all the AE comps from your Pr project, reimport the comps from the newly-named AE project, and replace them. It's a pain but it'll probably just keep getting worse if you don't.

  • How do I view multiple images from different projects at the same time?

    Hello
I've been trying to find the answer in the user manual, but no luck so far.
I did find how to open 2 projects at once, but I can only see one image at a time in the viewer and I have to keep going back and forth between projects to compare images. (These are scans of old photos and I want to eliminate the ones that are poorer quality, so need to compare numerous images from 2 sets of scans)
How can I view an image from one project at the same time as an image from another? I know that it can be done in the same project by apple-clicking the second, third etc image, but this doesn't work if the images are from different projects.
    Thank you
    Elizabeth

    Thank you again Tony
I've now created an album, independent of the projects, and dragged test images into it and it does just the job I needed. Now i just need to keep my brain sorted with which ones are which while i'm working

  • Manage Modifications in process from different Projects

I am working 2 different Projects in my studio: Project A and Project B.
Both Projects have "n" processes assigned, but they have the same "Process x" being shared/called.
If I need to modify the "Process x", for example in Project A, how to guarantee that the modification will be made in the "Project B"?
    There is a workaround?
    Thank you!

  • Can FCPX cut together footage from different cameras/recordings?

I used to use Sony Vegas, but I switched to Mac recently (so I have no experience with Final Cut in any form) and I want to know if FCPX can do something that I found tricky in Vegas.
I'm a drama teacher, and we often video productions and exercises from multiple angles, either two (or more) cameras on the same event, or more often one camera in different positions with the event repeated.
Can FCPX easly allow the different camera angles to be cut toegether?  Or is this the "missing multicam feature" that I keep hearing about?
Yes, I am new to Final Cut, no I am not a "noob", yes this is a genuine question.  If FCPX cannot do this, what is a recommended alternative?

Yes, Final Cut Pro X can handle footage from a variety of cameras and formats, all in one timeline.  You can choose upon Import to transcode or optimize the files (this will create new versions that will play better within Final Cut), but I have personally begun using it WITHOUT transcoding (I'm approaching FCPX as a Beta Tester with actual projects that I am working on for clients while I learn the software).  In the future, I will probably tinker with using transcoding and optimizing, but for now I am primarily working with footage from an HDV camera and footage from an AVCHD camera.
You can sync them up in a project and edit them.  Yes, the MultiClip function from FCP7 is MIA for now (Apple has officially stated it will be added back in later).  I personally only used multiclip on certain productions that used more than 3 angles.  If it is just 2 or 3 angles, FCP X will most likely work fine.  It isn't as time-efficient as using multiclip, but I found multiclip to be lacking when it came to using different formats.
I just finished editing a 2-camera wedding ceremony in FCPX.  After the initial learning curve, I appreciated FCPX ability to scrub video and audio easily in the timeline (it felt way more efficient in identifying immediate cuts like camera position movement, zooms and pans to new framing, etc.)  Once I figured out its differentiation between the "Primary Storyline" and Grouped Clips and Compound Clips (all new to me in this version), I kind of liked it.
The short answer to your question is...FCPX will probably suit your needs based on the projects and workflow I've used and what you are working on based on your description.  I also shoot weddings, drama productions and graduation ceremonies, which are my primary events.  FCPX I believe will suit my needs just fine.

  • Sharing & Managing iTunes libraries from different countries

    Hi Everyone,
I would like some help on sharing and managing content from different iTunes libraries from two difference countries please.
    I have:
1 x iPod and its library from the UK (and its UK Apple ID)
2 x iPhone 5's and their libraries from the US (and their US Apple ID's)
I appreciate there are restrictions due to each country's laws so what I want may not work, however, ideally I want it so I can have all three of our libraries in one iTunes library and then both my wife and I can choose which songs we want on our iPhones and iPods.
Does anyone know if this is possible?
Any help much appreciated - cheers!

    Thanks Guys.
What you said worked - cheers!
The only thing that didn't was transferring my UK music to USA iPhone. Unless you know otherwise, I assume because I paid for UK music in UK, trying to then play it on a USA iPhone won't work......or is there a workaround?
The fact I've paid for it legally in one country surely shouldn't be a problem playing it on a device?
Or should I create a brand new Apple ID and library - would that help?
    Your help is much appreciated.
    Thanks.
    Y2J,
The problem is much more likely to be the multiple Apple IDs than the multiple countries.  Do not start yet one more.
If all the music is in one library located on your computer, but certain songs won't sync, pls post details of the problem and maybe someone here can help troubleshoot.

  • How can I use footage from one project in another?

The best format for saving your video from one project so that it can be used in another Premiere Elements project is DV-AVI. For hi-def video, the format is HDV.
To save your video as a standard-definition DV-AVI, go to Share, Personal Computer and select the AVI output option with the DV preset. When you're ready to mix together these segments open a new project using the DV settings and assemble them on that timeline.
To save your video as a high-definition M2T video, go to Share,  Personal Computer and select the MPEG output option with the 1440x1080 MPEG preset. When you're ready  to mix together these segments open a new project using the HDV settings  and assemble them on that timeline.

  • Combining pages from different projects??

I have two different versions of a photoshop project, each with six pages.  But I want 3 pages from one and 3 pages from the other.  How do you combine these into one project?
    Thanks!

Lots of ways to do this. FCP is great. You can have multiple projects open, and drag clips between bins, or copy and paste between bins. You can drag clips from the timeline to bins in another project. You can drag qt clips directly from the finder into a bin in a new project.
HOWEVER, this can be dangerous. Just remember that if you media manage or make offline clips in one project, you will have deleted the underlying media for another project. Just be careful. You might consider exporting clips to a new folder in the finder and using these clips as sources in the new project. That's not the way I work, but I usually (but not always) know what I'm doing.

  • Enterprise Project Management with Empty (from tasks) Projects

Project Management is not only about Gantt and schedule. It's about collaboration, status reporting, resource requirements risk management and budget management.
Project Server supports us with all of that with features like resource plan, status reports, team sites and risk list. You can also manage budget and progress with unscheduled tasks
Have any of you gone this way of managing the non-schedule project information on either empty projects (without tasks) or "grocery-list" projects (with tasks as budget/effort entries, but no schedule)?
    Thanks,

Yes, I know clients that do this. Project Server has many uses :)

  • Combine stills or videos from different projects

I have just "shot" a wedding with 3 camcorders.  I am using iMovie11 and at the end of the whole video
I like to put something called. "Memorable Moments" which is the ending section filled with 1 second clips.
I have broken the whole "shoot" into 3 parts: PreCeremony, Wedding Ceremony and Reception. I have been
"stilling" a variety of Moments within these three projects to combine at the end of the video (at the end of the Reception
section of the video).  How do I get the still from the 3 projects to the place where I want them - at the end of the Reception
    part of the video???
Thanks in advance for any help.
    Jeanne

sounds like a trivial task, but unfortunately isn't 'expected' by the concept of iM.
you can not 'share' parts (as stills or titles) of a Projects to another.
    you have mainly two options:
    • export Project 1-3, use the free tool Mpeg Streamclip to extract the stills from it, re-import stills into P3.
    • create new stills by adding a short selection of the Event in use, create freeze, erase clip ...-

  • Referring Application Module from different Project

    I have two projects. a.jpr and b.jpr
I need to refer an Application Module from b.jpr in the first project a.jpr
In the Application Module edit Wizard, in the "available" list it shows all the Application Modules from the current project only.
What do I have to do to see the Application Modules of the other project.
In the "Project Settings" option, under "Dependencies" I have referred to the other project "b.jpr"
    But it didn't help.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

I have a similar problem as follows.
I have two projects: a web WAR and an EJB3 EAR. On deployment all the EJB class files are generated into the WAR file and the contents of the EAR file only has the XML configuration and dependant jar files.
How can I build the deployment EAR with the EJB classes within the jar? Why are they ending up in with the WAR WEB-INF/classes directory?
This a significant problem and any help / advice would be appreciated.

  • Question slide pulling information from different project

    Hi all,
Not sure if this has happened to anyone before but I started a new project, imported a PPT deck and then started adding question slides. Except that my question slide has a caption from a previous project somehow embedded into it. I can't click on it, I can't delete it. It's even pulling the style of the 'Incomplete Caption'. I don't know how it could possibly be linked to the other project.
    Anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks!

Okay here's what I've found: If I start a new project -> 'From PowerPoint' and I add question slides to the project, the error occurs across the board.
If I start the new project -> 'Blank Project' and 'insert' the exact same PPT deck and THEN add the question slides the error doesn't occur.
Not sure how or why that makes a difference, but for now I'm just happy to get back to work!!
Thanks Manoj for checking this out

  • In need of stock footage.  Suggestions?

I need stock footage of Manhattan alleyways and the view from a taxi window driving. It will be for commercial use so I'll be paying for the licenses. Can anyone suggest some good venues for me to find this kind of footage? I've looked on istockphoto so far but I've had no luck with their selection - as I'm looking for very specific shots. Thanks in advance.

Try to order that stock footage from Getty, Corbis, Artbeats for LESS! You'd be shocked at the price...apparently you haven't been looking at that. Pond5 is cheaper, but they might not have what you want.
I asked someone to do the same for me once...I needed footage of a neighborhood and I asked someone if they would get me 5-10 shots...no more than 5-10 min of footage. I asked if they could do this for $400-$600...what it would cost us for the stock footage. He LAUGHED at me. $750 MINIMUM. Him and gear, that was cheap...even for a half day.
You gotta realize what the real costs for this are.
