Mandatory deployment after new client installs

Is it possible to have an application package mandatory for all new clients? We use Ghost to create our standard images and, after the technician adds the new computers to the correct domain, they install the SCCM client. There are a couple of applications
that need to be in the domain before they're installed and the techs manually pull them down from SCCM currently. I'd like to automate this process for them, but I don't want the applications to push out to every PC on the domain again since they already have
them.

Hi,
With the new application model, the application will not actually deploy again if the detection method detects that it is installed already. You could use inventory as well to deploy the application to computers not having it already for instance.

Jörgen

  • ODS activation failures after new hardware installation..urgent

    Hi All,
I am working in PRD.There are 10 process chains which i need to monitor daily.Daily ODS activation fails in 4 of the 10 chains. The error message for two of the failures are,
Task 0040 during SID specification without confirmation
and for another process it is showing "DBIF_RSQL_SQL_ERROR" error.
manually I am doing steps and the activation is successful. These type of errors we are getting after the new hardware installation.
Could anyone let me know are there any patches to be applied inorder to avoid such type of errors.
Please advice me what to do.
    Thanks,
    Manjula

What is the patch your currently on at the moment.
It could also be some of the settings in RZ11 have been changed. You need to work with your basis people to resolve this.
DBIF_RSQL_SQL_ERROR is a common problem and usually due to not enough processor's available and the database gettings into a knot.
Check SM21 and ST22 for the more information on the issue.

  • Mac Mini (mid 2010) horizontal screen flicker after new RAM installation

Hi, trying to help someone fix their mid 2010 mac mini here.
The model he bought came with 4GB of RAM; but he upgraded and put 8GB of RAM in. (the kingston variety KVR1066D3D4R7S/4GI 4GB DDR3-1066 I think)
Before the RAM there were no display problems, after installation small horizontal lines of flickering would appear around every minute or so. The screen is a Samsung 2333 Syncmaster connected via the mini display adaptor.
We've tried the display and adaptor in a Macbook Pro late 2008 and no problems so we think we've eliminated that variable. We've just gone through the screen calibration in Sys Prefs and we're still seeing if that's fixed it. We'll also try adjusting the refresh rate but we're doubtful.
    Any ideas?

Apple support advised me to use RAM sold by Apple ($400 for 8GB).
I have 2x4GB hynix modules (by the way I had hynix stock modules in my mini) and if I mix 4GB(not Apple) and 1GB(Apple) it works just fine. It's obvious that 2 different modules won't work in dual channel BUT Xbench shows no difference in performance in any configuration. I tested different configurations: 2x4GB(not apple memory), 2x1GB(stock modules), 1Gb+4GB(stock and non stock) all of them show very similar performance +/- 3%.
This mean that mac mini doesn't use dual-channel memory mode (( There's also a chance that Xbench shows wrong results regarding RAM performance but to me, it seems very unlikely.

  • [SOLVED]No sound for user after new motherboard installation

So I installed a new motherboard, and thus a new soundchip. The system boots, it works fine, except for the fact that I just don't have any sound. MPD and mpv/mplayer don't give me any sound. I do, however, get sound from youtube in firefox. When I start a video in VLC, it tells me:
    Audio output failed:
The audio device "default" could not be used:
    No such device.
When I try to start alsamixer, I get: "cannot open mixer: No such device"
When I try to start alsamixer with sudo, it works...the levels are fine and the channels unmuted. Starting a video as root also gives me sound. Here is some output from mpv:
    kelnoky ~/down/malcolm/mitm/season 2 $ sudo mpv Malcolm\ in\ the\ Middle\ -\ 2x07\ -\ Robbery.avi

As usual, I try forever for fix it, then finally post a topic on the forums and immediately afterwards I find the error and fix it. I had an old ~/.asoundrc that was pointing to the now obsolete soundcard. Deleted that and now it works.

  • Laptop breaks down after new BIOS installation

    Hi ,
My laptop HP 2000 - 2d11x is  nearly a year old now. My problems started last month when my laptop started overheating and shutting down randomly. Now my laptop is completely unusable. I do not know what happened to it but I suspect that the incompatible BIOS installed recently in my computer caused its break down.
The first problem I had with this laptop is its overheating . I bought a usb cooling fan for it but the overheating persisted. Then, one day my laptop randomly shut down. For many days the laptop shuts down every hour or so when I use it. Then one day I took the battery out and started using the laptop without the battery. It worked continously and did not shut down but the overheating problem got worse.
Couple of days later I inserted the battery and the whole unit shut down. I tried again and again but my laptop keeps shutting every 5 seconds after I inserted the battery which is half charged. I cannot charge it properly because the laptop shuts down. It went on till my battery was out of charge and I can not use it anymore.
During this time my laptop only works when I plug it without battery.
I thought my battery was the problem so I stopped using it and asked HP Support for replacement since my laptop is still under warranty and I have no money to buy a new one. The agents I talked with in chat support, denied my requests for battery replacement. The first one promised to call me and said he talked with his supervisor about my problem. I waited for 48 hours but he didn't call or email me. The next agent I chat with remote accessed my computer and installed BIOS. I do not remember what kind of BIOS was it but all I remember is its a BIOS. The agent asked me to try and put the battery but the laptop shut down. It restarted and I waited a long time before it started. When it was finally restarted the agent and the connection was gone. My battery problem was still not solved. The third agent I talked with again asked to remote access my computer. Then he said that HP cannot replace my battery because battery shipment is prohibited by Bureau of Customs.  My father bought this laptop abroad in the US and we are living in the Philippines. I was frustrated and thought I will just have to use the laptop without battery.  A day later something horrible happened. My laptop did not start anymore even when I plug it with the adapter! The lights blink and goes out after 10 or so seconds when I click the start button.
Now my laptop is broken, black screen and completely unusable.
I researched a bit and realized that HP and overheating issues always went hand in hand.. I'm suspecting that the BIOS update was improperly done and the overeheating fried my motherboard. If this is the, then it's the HP technician's fault for making things worse. I hope they replace the laptop or atleast fix it. They're not taking imported laptops seriously and this really angers me because HP laptops by default come with the ITW (International Traveller's Warranty). I need your advice on what to do.

    Hello armela,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand your system was overheating and shutting down, and after a BIOS update you are no longer able to start up the notebook.
Here is a great document to walk you through restoring the BIOS to the original factory version and settings: Restoring the BIOS
If that does not resolve the issue, here is a good place to start troubleshooting startup problems (choose which link best represents your issue):
Computer Does Not Start and the LEDs Blink or the Computer Beeps
Troubleshooting Black Screen Displays with No Error Messages During Startup or Boot
Once you are able to get the system to boot, you may want to take a look at this document to troubleshoot the overheating issue, so we can prevent this from happening again: Reducing Heat Inside the PC to Prevent Overheating
If you are still experiencing problems take a look at our Global Warranty and FAQs. You will want to contact support in the region which you are currently located, in this case, the Philippines. You can reach them by phone at this number: 1-800-88-8588 - Mon-Fri 08:30 - 17:30 (excl PH)
    I hope this helps!

  • Profile down after new modem installation

Hi there, I had Business infinty installed recently and have had similar problems to a couple of other forumites: Had the same 2 week modem failure problem, the engineer came round yesterday and installed a new one and after a few shaky hours my connection has levelled of at 19mbs with a profile at 20mbs, upload speed dropped from 1.6mbs to .6 at the moment. A bit trying as previously my profile was set at 27mbs and had 1.6mbs upload speed.
What can be done to raise my profile? is it a question of wait and see or should I call BT?

Update for those with similar problems:
it was another defective modem, third one now in place and everything is back as it should be. BT have got a major problem regarding these modems

  • Qosmio F60 - existing advanced boot options after new OS installation

    Hello
I am asking about advanced boot option when pressing F8 after restarting the computer will be more exist if I have changed the operating system which originally came with my laptop Qosmio F60 ''win7'' to win 8.1 for example

The advanced boot menu which was part of the in Windows 7 system isnt available in Windows 8/8.1 system.
Microsoft changed the Windows system architecture in the new Win 8/8.1 and this menu has been replaced.
Usually if the Windows 8 or Windows 8.1 would not boot up properly, the system tries to fix the issue automatically. If the system will not be able to fix the issue automatically, the troubleshooting menu would appear.
If you want to access this menu manually, you have to do this within the system:
You have to open charm bar (win key + C) then Settings -> Change PC settings -> Update and recovery -> Recovery -> Advanced startup -> Restart now

  • Windows Automatic Update Error 80072EFD - After new HD installation by Toshiba

    Hi,
The hard drive went in my computer and I got it repaired at Toshiba Service centre. Four weeks later and it wont update windows which now causes web site security certificate errors with itunes, banks and paying for items on the web. I have called Toshiba and told them when I got it back it doesn't work correctly and they say its not there problem! Windows worked fine before the hard drive re-install.
I have tried nearly every suggestion on windows forums out there and tried to install the windows fix it tool but it wont let me on my laptop. I have also tried installing the Intel driver that people recommend but that also doesn't work. I have malware scanned the system as suggested by Microsoft it still wont work.
I keep getting windows error code 80072ED. The only thing i havent done which was suggested by toshiba was do a re-install by holding 0 key when rebooting the computer but I dont want to lose my hard drive and wipe it all. Im using windows 7 home premium. Somebody please help.
    Thanks

the old hard drive was removed and a new hard drive installed and the computer re configured to out of the box state. I dont think the windows update has worked since I got it back from Toshiba.
If it's just back from the Toshiba shop and doesn't work right before making changes, you should return it.
That error code indicates a network configuration problem. Do you have other problems on the internet?\
Do you have more than one anti-virus program resident in memory?

  • Hyperion not running after new OS Installation

    Hi all,
I am working in Hyperion since last one year. The way in which i use Hyperion workspace is as follow:
First i connect to VPN then i open workspace in my browser (IE9) which shows me login screen.
Now i recently re-installed windows 7 on my system and after this when i try to open workspace in same browser it didn't opens, rather its only shows "Loading ..." in center of screen.
I even try by updating JRE and apart from this i also try installing JDK but its doesn't solve the issue. Any recommendations that what is lacking in my case?

    Hi John,
Thanks for your help, yes you are right my version is 11.1.2.1.
I was already using Hyperion in IE9, infact in my case it only runs on IE niether on Chrome nor on Firefox, I also study the document which you mentioned and make appropriate changes in my IE9 but that didn't solve my problem. Any other suggestions?
Note: I was previously using same browser.

  • Re-establishing wireless after new hardrive installation

trying to reinstall system back onto laptop however, once i enter the ip in the address, i can not get passed the password area. admin doesn't work and no i did not change the password when i initially set it up.  i have the wrt54gc.  any thoughts on how i can get into the system to re establish it on my laptop?

To login to your router, the default settings are to leave the "user name" field blank, then in the password field, enter "admin"  (with no quotes).  If this does not work then apparently either you changed it, or someone logged in wirelessly to your router and changed it for you.  (Did you have an unencrypted (open) wireless system?)
If you cannot log into your router, then the only option is to reset it to factory defaults.
To reset your router to factory defaults, use the following procedure:
    1) Power down all computers, the router, and the modem, and unplug them from the wall.
    2) Disconnect all wires from the router.
    3) Power up the router and allow it to fully boot (1-2 minutes).
    4) Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds, then release it, then let the router reset and reboot (2-3 minutes).
    5) Power down the router.
    6) Connect one computer by wire to port 1 on the router (NOT to the internet port).
    7) Power up the router and allow it to fully boot (1-2 minutes).
    8) Power up the computer (if the computer has a wireless card, make sure it is off).
    9) Try to ping the router. To do this, click the "Start" button > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt. A black DOS box will appear. Enter the following: "ping 192.168.1.1" (no quotes), and hit the Enter key. You will see 3 or 4 lines that start either with "Reply from ... " or "Request timed out." If you see "Reply from ...", your computer has found your router.
    10) Open your browser and point it to 192.168.1.1. This will take you to your router's login page. Leave the user name blank, and in the password field, enter "admin" (with no quotes). This will take you to your router setup page. Note the version number of your firmware (usually listed near upper right corner of screen). Exit your browser.
If you get this far without problems, try the setup disk (or setup the router manually, if you prefer), and see if you can get your router setup and working.
If you cannot get "Reply from ..." in step 9 above, your router is dead.
If you get a reply in step 9, but cannot complete step 10, then either your router is dead or the firmware is corrupt. In this case, use the Linksys tftp.exe program to try to reload your router with the latest firmware. After reloading the firmware, repeat the above procedure starting with step 1.
If you need additional help, please state your ISP, the make and model of your modem, your router's firmware version, and the results of steps 9 and 10. Also, if you get any error messages, copy them exactly and report back.
Please let me know how things turn out for you.

  • Reinstalling iLife after new OS installation

    Hi,
I had to deleted everything on my Mac and reinstall the OS (which is Lion btw).
I noticed that I don't have iPhoto, iMovie, GarageBand (the iLife suite basically), which I had when I had bought my MacBookPro. When I go to the Appstore and look for such applications it looks as if I have to pay for them. Is that normal? Why would I have to pay if I had the license when I first bought the computer?
    Thanks for your help.

If you correctly accepted the apps into your Mac App Store account soon after buying the Mac, you should find the apps on the purchased pane for free redownloading to your Mac.

  • Soundfonts missing high frequencies after new driver installation

    Hi there,
did anyone have a problem similar to this :
I recently installed new drivers for my sb audigy (newest driver webupdate from Nov. 9th 2003, audio-hq, surroundmixer and taskbar)...i was happy about the new options and the driver seems to be stable, but a problem occured - the soundfonts sound quality is not as good as before, they sound kind of muffled, it seems that the high frequencies are missing... I didn't have that problem with the 'old' driver(s) installed.
Does anybody know a solution for this ?
Thanks for you reply in advance,
    Tannoy.

    Hi Flying_Ghost,
thanks for your reply. It helped me to figure out how to avoid that volume difference but still the soundfonts sounded the same way.
So i started an intensi've search in the internet and in this forum to find a hint about what could be the reason for this and finally found the solution, maybe it's interesting for you and anybody else who may have the same problem:
In the directory C: (assumed to be the main path)\ProgramFiles\Creative\SBAudigy\Program\WDM\C ommon is an application placed called 'ctpanel'. It includes an option for speaker settings and this involves a check-box for CMSS 3D selection, it was set to CMSS . CMSS is creative's multi-speaker-surround 3D, designed to bring stereo content into the 5. and now even in 7. surround sound.
Somehow at least the soundfont signal passes through the CMSS - section when the Creative Asio driver is used within an sequencer application. With CMSS activated, the soundfonts sound kind of muffled -- set CMSS Off and it sounds the way it should be.
    Best regards,
    Tannoy.

  • HP DV6700 shuts off on boot after new LCD installation

    Hello.
I have had this HPdv6700 for about a year and a half.  I just last wednesday installed a new LCD to replace one that I cracked by being too rough with the lid.
The new LCD worked fine, but at my desk I always use an external monitor and extend the desktop.  I plugged in the external monitor to the VGA, and when I tried to switch over to "extend desktop" the screens flashed as usual, but the laptop just turned immediatly off.
It now immediately turns off when it tries to power up the installed LCD, right when all the HP stuff should come up when the screen initially turns on.  If I unplug the LCD, and only plug in the VGA, it boots up, it only shuts off with the new LCD.
My guess is that my video card is fried, just enough where it still sort of works, but only when used with a monitor that has its own power supply.  Doesn't make sense really, usually when they go, thats it, they're gone.
I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 with the AMD Turion X2 64 bit processor and have the Nvidia Geforce 7150m graphics card.
Event logs in Administrative tools show nothing, as the PC shut off too fast to make a log.
Everything appears to be installed correctly on this, but this seriously seems like some kind of power drain, any ideas about what I'm missing here?

Oh, and can the problem be a faulty LCD that draws too much power, or maybe my inverter is fried?  I really doubt its the graphics card, and I don't want to buy new parts just to "experiment"

  • Audiobooks not working after new iTunes installation

My hard drive recently crashed and I've had to setup all of my iTunes library again. The problem I am having is on my audiobooks. iTunes will not allow me to add them to my library and when I try to open the files manually I get the following error...
"Error -2048: Couldn't open the file **.m4b because it is not a file the QuickTime understands."
I made sure that my software was updated and it is. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

The type of password protection you use to protect your wireless network, in your case WPA-PSK/TKIP, has no bearing on whether iTunes Home Sharing can work or not. That type of password protection is there to keep other people within the vicinity of your wireless network from being able to join your network and gain access to the files on your computers.
The key to Home Sharing is that every computer or device that wants to participate must be on the same network and that they are all using the same Apple ID. Provided you are all joining the same network, you will know you are if you are all joining a network of the same name, and using the same password, then Home Sharing should work. The other thing is that all the computers and devices have Home Sharing turned on using the same Apple ID.
If nothing else changed other than the router, the network name, the password to join the wireless network and the type of encryption used to secure that network then once those computers joined the wireless network Home Sharing should have continued to work as it did before.
What I suggest is that you turn Home Sharing off and then on again on each computer or device making sure you are using the same Apple ID.
Also, turn on Library Sharing, this is done in the preferences for iTunes, as see if you can access each others shared iTunes library that way. Library Sharing only works between computers, iPhones can't participate, and does not require Apple IDs or a link to iTunes to work.
See my post in the thread I've linked to below to learn how to turn on Home Sharing, Library Sharing and how to identify the difference.
