Manipulating a web site via a JAVA App

Hi,
can I use html code of a web site, eg Wikipedia to control its dynamic pages via a JAVA application??? To make it a bit more clear, if I retrieve the html code of wikipedia, and therefor know where the search text field is, can I insert there some info, like JAVA for example, hit the search button via my app, and retrieve the html code of the pages posted back to read the information provided for the search word JAVA??? I dont know if its clear what I want to do...I did my best though
cheers

The first is (usually) a violation of the terms of use of a website, the second (and possibly the first) is unethical to say the least.Looks like you jump to conclusion very quickly...Maybe I want to make an application and take over the WORLD!!!

  • Is there a web site that reviews Android apps?

    I'm new to Android.  When looking for apps -- in this case software to scan business cards -- I'm overwhelmed by the number of apps.  The info on Google Play isn't very helpful.  Are there web sites that review Android Apps?

        Hi RJLweb! You ask the same question that I've asked when shopping apps. Yes, we do have a site for application reviews of some of the more popular apps. You can check them out at this link: http://vz.to/1izJFxO

  • Simple Web Frontend for existing Java app

    Hi there!
    (sorry for my english at first ;)
    I have an existing java app which currently is used via command line. It's a server application which mostly does monitoring outputs and functions you can use in the shell are like starting/stopping the server. For these outputs and for starting/stopping and so on i want to create a simple web frontend which gives me the ability to do this.
    What do i need? It would be fine if i do not have to set up a large tomcat server because the program should run out of the box. Of course i want to access the website via the internet (simple login). The whole thing would be about 2-5 simple pages. Best thing would be if i could update the monitoring variables via java script.
    Can i use servlets (not much experience with it so far, that's why i ask :) )? What do i need for the webserver? Can i access my data variables from right from the servlet?
    Thanks in advance,
    kiwaque

    If you are familiar with Swing, I would suggest GWT for the Frontend... you can build and debug the Frontend similar to a Swing App, and then compile it to HTML/CSS/Javascript...

  • I can't connect to a web site via the site's own WiFi.

    This is a strange one. When I'm in the New York Public Library and connected to the internet via their WiFi I can connect to any web site EXCEPT the New York Public Library's! (www.nypl.org) It tries connecting then times out every time. I can connect to the NYPL's site when I'm not there from home or other WiFis public or private, and when there I can connect to it on my iPhone, but not from my computer with either Firefox or Safari. Other people with Macs can access the site from there and I went over my settings with one of them but could find no differences.
    I'm using 10.5.7 and have the latest updates for Firefox and Safari and the latest updates for OSX. What's frustrating is that when I'm at the library doing research there are databases one can only access from there, not from outside, so it's a very odd situation. Using iPhone for such a reason is quite impractical, too so I'd appreciate any help anyone can offer. I'm sure it's a setting somewhere in my network prefs or something but I'm baffled as to what it might be - has anyone else ever run across something similar?
    Thank you!

    I am hear at the New York Public Library now. I am connected to the internet on their WiFi but still cannot get to their site at the address http://www.nypl.org , it times out. I pinged them with this result:
    Ping has started ...
    ping: cannot resolve http://www.nypl.org: Unknown host
    I tried "lookup" with the following result:

    I have tried at other times to get to the site through links from other sites with no luck.

  • How to add a web site to the "Java" preferences?

    Apple states the following regarding Safari 6.0.4:
    "When you first visit a website that requires the Java web plug-in, Safari presents a prompt similar to this one but containing the specific website ..."
    I didn't authorize a web site when i first visited it. Now, I'd like to add this web site to the list in the "Java" preferences in Safari 6.0.4.
    Is this possible and how?
    Thanks in anticipation.

    I noticed certain features simply do not happen in Safari with Java turned off when I recently changed ISPs and was making change of address at sites that had been using the earlier one. In several instances I clicked "Submit" or the like and got exactly no feedback. Which made no sense. Then, two days ago, in trying to price some Adobe software, when I clicked on a button for more information, again nothing happened. I went to Chrome, pasted the URL, clicked on the button and got a drop down information window.
    I came here because, when I went through the Help symbol at Preferences>Security but got no helpful instructions, so I wrote an explanation in the comment box, but when I clicked Submit THERE I got an error message that included something about a Java exception. I enabled Java and went back to try Submit again, with the same error!
    For the record, here is what I was trying to send to the comment-readers:
    Wanting to control where Java can be run, I clicked on "Manage Website Settings" and got an empty list.
    So I clicked on the Help button on the Preferences>Security page and came to help, which told me NOTHING about HOW to enter websites on that list, that empty list.
    Therefore, no help.
    Hunh! In trying to send this apparently I need to have Java turned on. See? That's just another indication of confusion out here in user land.
    Well, that didn't work either. I will try another route.  END OF NOT-SENDABLE COMMENT.
    Now I will web search for useful information. I have chosen to be kept abreast of this discussion, too.

  • Unable to access a particular web site via FOS

    This problem started a week or so ago.  Using different computers (Windows or MAC) I am not able to access the web site www.vibeconference.com which is using IP Address 74.208.213.17 using any of several browsers, Explorer, Firefox, Safari.  In addition, I am not able to ping the url or IP address, I just get timeouts.
    All of the above occurs when I use a computer connected to my FIOS Service.  I can access this url just fine using my Cell Phone which uses Verizon Wireless or my wife's using AT&T Wireless
    I have tried using OpenDNS's DNS Servers, same problem.  I am baffled by the fact that it only happens with this one web site (that I know of).
    I have power cycled my router, checked its settings, no luck.
    Any ideas?

    OK, I figured out how to use a Free Web Proxy and am able to navigate to the web site.  I am still baffled by what is causing the block but I guess that is the hosting companies issue or some issue between them and Verizon.  I also left my router off overnight so that I would get a different IP address which I did.  So it is not my particular IP address which is getting blocked but probably a range belonging to Verizon.

  • When I atempt to send a web site via an email from FF, the system keeps opening one new mozalla screen after another. Nothing will stop this but logging off. I have to bookmark everything and then put it in an email. Your help is appreciated.

    If I attempt to send a link to someone from a site I am visiting, ff starts opening one new start window after another. So fast i can't get it stopped. Even going into taskmaster which I sometimes have to try 3 or 4 times, it is impossible to get them all stopped they just keep multiplying. Only logging off or a restart will fix the problem.
    The same think happens if I use a "send picture to". I don't know what else to do. I have run all the diagnostics I have. Checked all the drives, etc. Check all the ff settings. Nothing shows.

  • Call a Servlet via POST from a Stand alone Java App

    Hi guys.
    Right now I am facing a tricky problem I hope you can help me on this...
    What I want to do is to call a servlet that is listening ( I can't touch the servlet code) in a web browser.
    I was able to send a GET request by a code like this:
    URLConnection conn = new URL(webServerStr).openConnection();
    conn.setDoOutput(true);
    OutputStreamWriter wr = new OutputStreamWriter(conn.getOutputStream());
    wr.write(webServerStr);
    wr.flush();
    and everthig was all right.
    The problem arises when I try to send a long REQUEST via my java app. I get a 414 HTTP error (414 - Request-URI Too Large ). When I do the long request by browser works fine. (when I fill all the form and press the submit button)
    The only difference between the browser request and my java request is the ACTION. From the FORM is POST and when I build the string to send it out to the web server is via GET ( I build the string like ?ATTR=VALUE&ATTR2=VALUE2....)
    Here is my question. How I do a POST request from a java application?
    Any ideas?
    Thaks guys and any help will be appreciate.

    URL url = new URL("http://localhost:8080/");
    HttpURLConnection con = (HttpURLConnection)url.openConnection();
    con.setStuff(...............................check out api
    con.setDoOutput(true);
    con.connect();
    // write stuff
    PrintWriter pw = new PrintWriter(con.getOutputStream());
    pw.println(depart);
    pw.flush();
    pw.close();
    // read reply
    BufferedReader br = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(con.getInputStream()));
    String res = br.readLine();

  • Web site with java benchmarks for various cpus?

    Is there a web site that shows java benchmarks run on various P4 and AMD cpus, so that it is possible to see the relatively speed at which java runs on these cpus?

    You'll find a few if you search around, but none will be meaningful. The problem with Java, or any other Virtual Machine type runtime language is you can not design a benchmark that really has meaning, in any context but the benchmark itself. First off, you're not benchmarking "Java" you're benchmarking the "JVM". I try to convince people to not waste so much time on these speed issues. Your time would be better learning how to write better code, which would give a much bigger speed increase then switching from a P4 to an Athlon. Developers often make mistakes and oversites in their work that slows a program down by an order of magnitude. You're never going to see that kind of performance difference in CPUs. So get a good deal on machine, the most "bang-for-your-buck" if you will, and go to town, and stop worrying, hotspot is fast.
    Sparc Chips are different story because a little thing called register coloring... but you didn't mention sparc chips, so I won't tell the story.

  • Personal web site not showing up.

    Problem:
    neither web sites appear when using 192.168.2.149 ip addresses.
    blah, blah . . . so, after setting the Personal Web Sharing tab, the bottom tells me that I can access the computer web site via http://192.168.149 and my personal web page via http://192.168.2.149/~calbruin.
    When opening the links, nothing shows up but the error saying that server is not found.
    When I type 127.0.0.1, that gives the generic computer web page (found in Library/Webserver/Documents) alerting me that Apache is installed.
    Question is, why does not the 192.168... address work and why not the personal Sites Folder accessible via 192.168....?

    The only change was turning off and then turning on the Personal Web Sharing.
    Most likely needs this...
    Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Trash this file...
    /Library/Preferences/com.apple.sharing.firewall.plist
    reboot when it completes.
    (Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
    Set up Sharing again.

  • Help with uploading site via ftp

    I managed to upload the web site via ftp in dreamweaver.  The problem I am having is there was an existing site already on the server.  I thought when I "put" the files for the new web site it would overwrite the existing files when it "put" the index.html file.  All of my files were uploaded, but when I go to the web site url the new site files do not come up, only the old files.  If I type the extension of /index.html the new site files come up.  Can anyone help me figure out what I am missing?  I need my new site files to come up when they type in the url without typing /index.html  Thanks.

    What's the web address?
    Is there more than one index file in the root folder on the server?
    e.g. index.htm, index.html, index.php etc
    Have you cleared the browser cache? Your browser may be showing you files stored in its memory rather than downloading fresh files from the server.
    Although DW should overwrite old files on the server, it's good practice sometimes to consciously delete what you don't want to avoid filename clashes.
