Manipulating photoshop files in FCE...  HELP!!!

Hi all,
I am going nuts!! I am not a photoshop expert, but I am doing a job that requires some graphics be imported into FCE. What I need to do is stack multiple clips of the same image on top of one another, one by one, so that they eventually cover up a screen underneith.
The image that I have from photoshop is a .pdf file. When i import it in and put it on the timeline, i am seeing the white background around the object. I obviously can't have this because as i stack the images I will begin to see the white background that is attached to each image. Does anyone know how I would remove this white background so that I only have the object itself showing up on the canvas???
I REALLY, REALLY appreciate your help. I've been messing with this for hours!! Thanks,
Karen

Hi Tom,
I have tried to do this as well. I have another post... down the list a little bit that addresses what happened. .pdf was the only one that preserved the original colors... If you don't mind checking out my other post, I'd really appreciate it.

  • Photoshop files in FCE - Cannot Open Project

I have a series of Photoshop files (RGB with about 10 layers a piece).
I am able to import a file into FCE HD and move the layers around as tracks - everything works great.
I save the file, and close. When I try to re-open the file, I get the dreaded "Cannot open project file".
I have tried this with an external drive and saving to the desktop. I have also tried importing normal pictures - no problem. It's when I import layers. I have been able to isolate the problem to layered Photoshop files.
    Any ideas?
    thanks.

Any PS file that has transparency that is imported
into a PAL project will corrupt the file, so
that you cannot open it again. Sorry.
See this (9th post down) which showed that any file created in Photoshop with its type as ".psd", whether with or without transparency, will give this fault. However, a file created in Photoshop with .tif will be safe even if it has transparency.

  • Photoshop Files Displayed in FCE

When I import layered Photoshop files into FCE to be used in a slideshow, they appear compressed at the sides, whereas jpegs display normally (both are sized 4:3).
That being said, when I save the very same Photoshop files as jpegs and import them into FCE, they display normally.
    Please advise. Thanks in advance.

Layers files import as sequences. FCE makes no adjustment for pixel aspect ratio. That has to be done prior to importing the sequence. Flattened images are treated as graphics files and the pixel aspect ratio is adjusted by the application.

What version of windows are you using and is it a 32 or 64 bit system?
    Did the help ever work?
The help application for pse 5 should be in:
(if you open the folder you should see the ahc.exe)
C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Help Center on a 64 bit system
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Help Center on a 32 bit system

  • Help opening a Photoshop file

    Hi Everyone
I have a large photoshop file 1GB that I have been working on. It was working fine, until yesterday, then when I tried to open it, it says "could not complete your request because of a program error".
I have tried to place it in Indesign, Illustrator, convert it to PDF, but no luck.
Any help would be appreciated. If there are any Freeware programs that might help if required would also be an advantage.
    Many Thanks Neil 45156

Try XnView (PC) or Graphics Converter/ Grafikkonverter (Mac). If the file was saved correctly, you might at least be able to extract a flattend version this way and safe it to a different format. There's a couple of other tools that can load and write layered PSDs such as various of the Corel Tools (Painter for instance), but they don't support any advanced features introduced over the years, so you may loose info, even if the file opens.

  • Hey, I have Final Cut Express 4.0.1 and a JVC everio camera, whenever i try to import my files to FCE via "Log and transfer", it just doesn't do anything, as if FCE doesn't know the camera is there, please help !

    Hey,
I have Final Cut Express 4.0.1 and a JVC everio camera.
Whenever i try to import my files to FCE via "Log and transfer", it just doesn't do anything, as if FCE doesn't know the camera is there,
    please help !

FCE 4.0.1 can only capture DV/HDV which is produced by cameras using Mini-DV TAPES and cameras shooting AVCHD which is a high definition format.
If your camera shoots standard definition on Memory Cards, DVDs or Hard Drives it will not work in FCE.
What is your camera's exact model name and number?

Are you referencing your Photoshop image files, or Photoshop application files?
If the latter, cease and desist at once!
Always install Photoshop from scratch, from the original media: CD/DVD or download.
If the former, please provide details:
    BOILERPLATE TEXT:
Note that this is boilerplate text.
If you give complete and detailed information about your setup and the issue at hand,
such as your platform (Mac or Win),
exact versions of your OS, of Photoshop (not just "CS6", but something like CS6v.13.0.6) and of Bridge,
your settings in Photoshop > Preference > Performance
the type of file you were working on,
machine specs, such as total installed RAM, scratch file HDs, total available HD space, video card specs, including total VRAM installed,
what troubleshooting steps you have taken so far,
    what error message(s) you receive,
if having issues opening raw files also the exact camera make and model that generated them,
if you're having printing issues, indicate the exact make and model of your printer, paper size, image dimensions in pixels (so many pixels wide by so many pixels high). if going through a RIP, specify that too.
    etc.,
someone may be able to help you (not necessarily this poster, who is not a Windows user).
a screen shot of your settings or of the image could be very helpful too.

HELP! trying to save a photoshop file -working with CS5 - getting the message, 'could not save xxx because of a programme error' I have tried changing the file name, no difference. Help. A lot of work I don't want to flush away. Thanks Kevin

You may be running on borrowed time.  It sounds like something in your OS file system interface has become corrupted.
    But some things to try:
    1.  Save to another local drive/volume, ESPECIALLY if you're trying to save on a network.
    2.  Choose Image - Duplicate, then try to save on a local drive/volume as a PSD.

  • Need help moving photoshop files with layers

I have been having some trouble, when I attempt to move photoshop files with a CD-R disk, from my school pc to my home mac, only the top most image is moved. The layers are deleted, and I only receive the image on the background layer. I need the layers to continue working on the pieces. Would a flash drive transfer the whole file, or am I doing something wrong with the disk file?

Yeah, time is a factor because the system is getting wiped in a few days. The school version is photshop 7 I believe, and I have photoshop CS3 extended here. What I did was save the file to the CD burner, I didn't change the format to my knowledge. I thought that the data would have transfered from computer to computer, but it didnt, its like it saved as a different file entirely. I assume that using a flash drive would preserve the info in its entirety. I guess your saying that the type of file its saved as changes whether its a photoshop layers file, or just a flat image. I'll try again tomorrow.

  • Strange White Areas When Saving Photoshop File as a .pdf File ??? NEED HELP

Using Photoshop CS5 -- I saved a Photoshop file I created as a .pdf file but some of the areas on the .pdf file (specifically, sections of text) do not have any of the color/fill information, they are just white (blank areas).  I've seen this before when converting other Photoshop files and could not find a work around.  I tried saving with various compression levels (max, high, med) and it makes no difference.  I’m not a techie or graphic designer, just an average Jane, so I need information and advice that I can understand and apply.  See attached image.  Thanks!

That does sound a long way round.  The usual trick when layers don't do what you expect them to do, is to make a Copy Merged layer at the top of the stack.  Shift Alt Ctrl e (Shift Opt Cmd e).
I can see you have quite a few layers there, but you could problably track down the problem by Alt clicking each layer's Eye icon in turn to view them with everything else turned off.  When you find the culprit, Alt click it's Eye icon again to turn the other layers back on again.

  • Photoshop file laid over a .mov from LiveType corrupts project files

I have an edited sequence in FCE 3.0 At the beginning in V1 is a 7 second .mov title created in LiveType: the usual thing - squiggling text appears over an animated background using the Texture > Liquid > Silver. In V2, and overlapping the .mov is a Photoshop file (.PSD). It has one layer which has an image occupying half of the layer which is otherwise transparent. (By "overlapping" I mean that when the Playhead is over the .mov it is also over the Photoshop file). The Photoshop file is shorter than the .mov and its right hand end is aligned with the right hand end of the .mov. The Sequence in the Timeline is of course rendered. The result is that the title appears and then the Photoshop image overlays it. Fine, it works.
However, if I save the Project file, quit FCE then relaunch it and load in the Project file, I get "Unable to Open Project File". Exactly the same occurs with another (different) Project file which also has a (different) LiveType title overlaid with a (different) single layer PSD file with a transparent background. I have no other Project files with a PSD overlay. The problem occurs only when I include the PSD file in V2, even without the .mov file.
The LiveType .mov and the PSD file was dragged from its Mac folder on to the Browser then dragged from the Browser to the Timeline. The PSD file appears in the Browser as a Sequence. I deleted FCE's Pref. files, uninstalled and re-installed FCE, Repaired Permissions, rebooted - no help. Other Project files are OK.
I have read www.fcpbook.com/Photoshop6.html Part 3 mentions the use of overlaid PSD files with transparency, and mentions creating a new Channel and converting to a PICT, but unlike the graphic in the site page, my Photoshop (version 7) does not offer the choice of a PICT - just PSD or RAW - so no help there.
It seems clear that the PSD file is the problem. Can't FCE handle them as overlays? Any ideas please on how to get the effect that I want?

  • Photoshop Files in 1080i60 project

I am editing a project shot in 1440cbr on a JVC Everio HD-7. I have found the Final Cut Express Easy Setup format that works best with this footage is HDV Apple Intermediate Codec 1080i60.
Can someone recommend a technique to generate and import photoshop files that will not suffer resolution issues? As of now, I create a 1920x1080 file in photoshop. When these files are imported to FCE, they are not nearly as sharp, and appear stretched.
    Thanks in advance.

Okay, that helped resolve my issue. Now I'm running into something else frustrating with importing images. When I use a transition to change from video to a still or graphic, the image looks clear and crisp during the transition, but as soon as the transition is over the image or graphic becomes pixelated. Then during the transition back to video takes place, the image looks clear again. I'm guessing this has some relation to my previous issue, but I'm unsure.
    Thanks again,
    Preston

    Hi Steadyalberta,
Something might be preventing Photoshop from being able to save your selection on the dialog window properly. You might try right clicking and choose Run as Administrator on the Photoshop icon when launching (Windows) or test if the behavior persists when using a newly created admin user account.
    Hope that helps,
