Manual Backup to icloud?

Hi,
Ok so I manually backed up my iphone last week using the cable and iTunes method. A few days later that iPhone broke due to water damage so I bought Samsung (i know, I'm a traitor!). Now I can sync all my old data onto the samsung via icloud, is there anyway of transferring my last backup stored onto itunes and put it into icloud without using an iphone?
I hope this makes sense!

You can't put and iTunes backup in iCloud, you can only create an iCloud backup by backing up an iOS device with the data on it.  You would have to restore the backup to an iPhone, then create an iCloud backup on the phone.

Oh, duh...my bad.  It says that photostream syncs when it gets back to your wifi.  So it does not use 3G to upload new pictures.  Thx for the direction to the answer?
I am surprised that this info isn't more prominent in the ICloud support documents...
    Thx again,

  • How do I manually backup to both my pc & icloud via itunes?

When I plug my phone in and open itunes, there's a backup section with both icloud and my computer listed.
I want to be able to make a manual backup in both places (you can't be too careful! :-).
I can freely checked either my computer or icloud, and then click the sync button, but I must be missing something else.
What are the relevant Settings that must be selected on the phone?
Does the phone have to be on/active?
What do I need to do in itunes to back up first to one place and then to the other place?
I'm not getting prompted to enter my icloud login/pw--is that a clue to what's not working...

Well, t'uh! (insert apple rant here)
Maybe someone will come by later and explain that bit to us. At least for now, I can mostly do what I want, although it's rather awkward and kludgy.
Thanks for the info, both of you, I appreciate it.
(still grumbling about the apple universe under my breath ;-)

The phone will automatically re-appear when it connects to the Internet. However, don't get your hopes up, as thieves know this & will make sure your phone never re-connects so you can locate it.

  • ICloud manual backup ios 8

How do you manually backup iPhone to iCloud in iOS8?  I see instructions on how to do it for older iOS on the apple support site.
I have pasted the old iOS instructions below.

I was wondering the same thing & finally found the answer. If you Go to Settings > iCloud, there is now an entry on the list of clickable items called 'Backup.' It's below the toggles for what you can include in backups. The default is 'on.' If you click on the Backup bar, you'll see the most recent backup info & the option to 'Backup Now,.' It looks the same as before, it's just in a different location - instead of having the Manage Storage & Backup Now in the same place.

  • Icloud manual backup

Hello. I am on ios 8.1.3 and I can not figure out how to do a manual backup. I go to settings --> icloud--> Storage--> Manage Storage. I can not find the "Backup Now" button anywhere. Did they get rid of this?? It says my last backup was yesterday but I wanted to do one today because I plan on going to get the iphone 6 today so I wanted a completely up to date backup for when I restore from it on the new phone. Help please? Thanks!

It should be near the bottom of the list in Settings > iCloud (just above Find My iPhone and Keychain).

  • How to manually backup iPad to iTunes now that iCloud is working?i

Now that iCloud is backing up my iPad finally, I would still like to do a manual backup to iTunes. Can someone provied the details of how to do this correctly? I assume I still have to tether it to my iMac. I'm confused because It looks like it is still backing up to iTunes as it did before but I seems some people using right click on iTunes Icon and so on, so need to get the correct procedure. Thanks

You cannot backup to iCloud and to the computer at the same time if that is what you are asking - in other words if you are looking for a way to always have "backup to iCloud" enabled and "Backup to this computer" enabled - both at the same time - you can't do it.
There is no way to set it up so the whenever you backup - you backup to iCloud and the computer at the same time - simultaneously that is. Does that answer your question?
I thought the OP was asking how to switch between the cloud and the computer for backups but maybe I am wrong.

  • Manual and automatic icloud backup failure

Ipad says this morning, "2 weeks since icloud backup".    Unable to use ipad, turn it off, etc.  So, connected it to Itunes and clicked "restore" icloud backup.
    Ipad was restored.
Turned off Ipad and closed Itunes.
Following directions to automatically backup to icloud (plug in, connected to WiFi and locked ipad) - failed to backup
Tried to manually backup - "estimated time remaining......"        doesn't give me a time.
Let ipad sit there plugged in, says it's backing up, but after a few minutes..........says it was unable to backup.
Then I thought that maybe I don't have enough space in my Free icloud acct (1GB left), so I upgrraded to add another 10GB.
I do have it set to automatically backup to icloud.
Opend iTunes again on desktop computer.  I see the iPad in itunes.  Clicked on "back up now" (to icloud).  says looking for ipad.  Then it disappers.
Went back to ipad.  Says it's backing up, then a few seconds later, says unable to bakup.
In iTunes, turned OFF  the sync to itunes with Wifi;  Unplugged ipad from electrical outlet.  on iPad, I made sure the iCloud backup was turned ON.
Hit the "backup now" on iPad.  Says it's backing up..........Estimated time remaining....... - says no time.    Have waited about 3 minutes, and the blue bar showing status of backup is stuck.
    What is going on here?

Same here, restored, completed manual backups which always end up with could not complete.
Slightly annoyed as worked fine before ios7 and my smart playlists are now useless.

  • If I backup to icloud can I still manually backup too?

say I just want icloud to backup sms, contacts, bookmarks.
but my apps will probs go over the 5gb so I want to manually backup those?
    how does that work?

your apps do not count against the 5GB. Neither does Photostream or your purchased books, music etc.
What counts against the 5GB is the devices cameraroll , the OS backup  and the documents from icloud-enabled apps. For example I use 300MB out of the 5GB, and that's from a 8GB iPod with hundreds of pictures and 2GB worth of apps  on it.
You can backup the iOS5 device to icloud and still make every now and then a backup to your local machine :
Connect the iDevice to iTunes, locate the iDevice in iTunes' sidebar - now use the right mousebutton , click the Device's name and then pops up "back up". This creates a local backup, regardless if you have set all to backup to iCloud. This way you are double backed up .

  • Iphone 6 backup to iCloud not working

Initially I had the issue where my phone was restoring from iCloud for 2 weeks and never finished. I was unable to do the upgrade to 8.1 because of this, so I canceled the restore and tried to do a backup to iCloud. I let it run (Estimating time remaining...) for a long time, like 30 minutes or something. Each time I tried this it would error off saying it couldn't finish the operation. One time it said it was going to take 2 days to complete the backup, but then it errors off as just mentioned. So I did a google search for "iPhone 6 backup to iCloud not working" and found a link to the forums for the incessant restore issue, it said to do a manual backup through iTunes, then immediately do a restore, then do the upgrade to 8.1.
However, I still have the issue of the backup taking forever.
Anyone encounter this issue and find a fix?
    Many thanks.

I suggest you contact Apple Support.

  • Can I upgrade iOS and still retain *everything*, if I didn't authorize Apple ID and didn'nor had I performed a manual backup?

I am an IT guy here helping 10+ iPad and iPhone users upgrading to iOS 5.  I have finished the first two devices, by the following steps:
Obtain the user's Apple ID and password
Get to a clean computer (precisely, logon to a clean profile)
Authorize the user's ID in iTunes
Transfer purchases (then it will download all installed apps)
Maannuly perform a backup (1), just in case.
Perform iOS5 update following the standard procedure.
Then during the process, iTunes backs up the device again (I am not sure if this backup (2) has any different from the one that I've done manually), but after everything is done, all apps with their data, account setting, camera roll, even the placing of app icons seemed to be restored to the updated device 100% successfully.
Deauthorize Apple ID.  "Next one please."
    THAT WAS VERY TIME CONSUMING!!
My question is, what will happen if I upgrade a device without doing step 1 through 5 first ?  Will backup (2) still backs up everything and restore it,although the user's ID was not authorized in this copy of iTunes?
If this works then it wil save me a lot of time.  I can't risk to test it because if it doesn't work, I won't have a good backup to restore the user's data.
(PS) If you asked me why don't I do this on each user's computer?  The reason is because some of them do not have a computer, and for those who does have computer, most of them do not have iTunes installed.

In summary, there is no way, for me to fully restore all apps that my users had installed (purchased / free), without authorizing their Apple ID's to iTunes on the computer which I am using to perform the iOS upgrade for them ?
However, I found out it is possible that my nightmare will end after all devices get upgraded to iOS5. Through some tests that I did, I found an interesting fact:
    - Backup to iTunes:
You need to authorize every single Apple ID on iTunes, so it can back up apps and restore for you.
    - Backup to iCloud:
Since there is no action of authorizing, it will backup and restore all of your apps, whcih were installed by different Apple ID, or totally different than the ID of iCloud account.
*I tested this scenario by backing up a device with only 2 apps installed by 2 diffrent Apple ID's (of course, one of them is used as iCloud account to back up), this device has never been connected to iTunes on a computer, I performed a backup to cloud, wipe the device, restore from the cloud, and both apps, purchased by different Apple ID's, were restored!
But I need to run more tests and confirm that it works.

  • HT203756 How can I remove 'old' or 'incomplete' backups from iCloud?

How can I remove 'old' or 'incomplete' backups from iCloud?
When I attempted, the iPhone 6+ message asked if I wanted to remove ALL of the backups... without giving me the option of selecting the specific one I wanted to remove.
I had performed 'backups' of my old iPhone, but, when I tried to RESTORE to the REPLACEMENT iPhone, at least one of the iCloud backups shows 'incomplete'.  There was no 'error' on the original iPhone...when it 'failed' to complete the backup.
Now, I would like to 'clear up' the 'storage' on the iCloud, but am unable to select specific ones. I can either keep all instances or shut off iCloud Backup which would, according to the message, remove/delete ALL of the BACKUPS.
    This shouldn't be this difficult.....

I too wondered how you remove apps from iCloud.  Judging by the quantity of questions, comments, suggestions and replies (some rather rude) there is a clear need for Apple to make their literature a lot clearer.  The page describing what iCloud backs up refers to "app data" as an item which is backed up.  To the uniniated this might mean the app program but it seems not.  The app is "bought" via iTunes or the App Store and details of your purchase (free or otherwise) is held there separately on the server.
It would be nice however to be able to remove the reference to junk I have downloaded and decided I don't want so that it doesn't appear on the purchased apps listing!  Apple please note this.
It must be remembered that Apple products come pitifully supported by manuals "out of the box" on the assumption that it is so easy to use the product that no explanation is needed.  They forget that most buyers of Apple products (me included) don't know (and don't want to know) how they work, so when something is not obvious they are required to plough through Lord knows how many web pages of "knowledge base" material until they find an answer.
All I can add is that it is worth spending time reading the multiitude of discussion threads before asking the question yet again...

  • Making an iPhone 4S manual backup to a MacBook Pro does not work in iTunes?

    Hello.
I am helping a client's iPhone 4S (iOS 5) to back up his data to his 13.3" MacBook Pro (Mac OS X 10.8.2 with updates including the latest iTunes v11 without iCloud). We told iTunes not to automatically synchronize when connected. We did tell it to manual back ups from iPhone to MacBook Pro, but we only saw it back up iPhone's apps. Calendar, Contacts, etc. do not get updated on MacBook Pro's software. We don't want to synchronize. We just want to overwrite iPhone's data to the computer. Did we miss something or is there a bug in this manual backup? My client only updates his data on his iPhone and not the computer.
    Thank you in advance.

    randers4 wrote:
Backing up will not update the calendar, contacts, etc. on his MacBook Pro; only syncing does that (and it's bi-directional).  Backing up only creates a device backup that can later be used to restore from if necessary.  He can confirm that the backup was successfully created by going to iTunes>Preferences>Devices and checking the Backups list.
Or am I misunderstanding your question?
We do see iTunes' device and ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/ showing the backups. We thought manual backups did COMPLETE backups including calendar, contacts, etc. That's disappointing. The problem is synchronizing is that it likes to make duplicates which is quite annoying. We would prefer iTunes overwrite iPhone 4S' datas to computer. He nevers updates/add data on the computer.

  • IPhone backup (in icloud) doesn't appear later (for restoring)

    Hello,
I have all these iDevices, with iOS 5 and with backups in iCloud:
    iphone 3GS
    iPad
    iPhone 4S (let's call this "4S1")
I have received a second (new) iPhone 4S (let's call it "4S2"), and want to use it instead of 4S1, so I thought I could iCloud backups to transfer everything from 4S1 to the new 4S2. I made a backup of 4S1 in iCloud, then switched on 4S2, and in the initial setup procedure, chose "restore from iCloud backup". But in the available backups, only appear those of 3GS and ipad, not the backup of 4S1.
I manually made more backups of 4S1, but again, none of them are available for 4S2 to restore from them (only backups of the 3GS and iPad)...
I deleted the backups of the 3GS in iCloud, even disabled iCloud inside the 3GS, then made more backups of 4S1, but... now the only backups available to restore to 4S2 are those of the iPad, not valid for me.
The "funny" thing is that, in the 4S1, under settings-icloud-storage and copies (well, mine is in spanish, don't know how this is written in english ios)-manage storage, THERE IS a backup of the 4S1, so... why doesn't it appear as available when I try to restore that backup to the new 4S2?
    Thanks in advance,

Excuse me, I forgot to include that I read this discussion:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/17838682#17838682
so it appears that one probable cause is, the backups from 4S1 are made with iOS 5.1, and the new 4S2 has 5.0.1. I have read documentation from Apple, and found none stating that the backups were incompatible between different iOS 5 versions.
In the mentioned discussion you can read that the solution is to upgrade the 4S2 to iOS 5.1. The thing is, I don't want to upgrade 4S2 to 5.1.1 by now... Could it be possible to use still the backups of my 4S1?
    Thanks,
