Manual disk removal?

I am trying to install XP using boot camp. At one point of the installation I am prompted to insert an XP CD to verify that I qualify for the XP Pro upgrade I am installing. I have an XP Home Edition CD to put in the slot to verify, but I cannot eject the Upgrade Cd already in the mini. The keyboard eject will not work because I am in the Windows installation program. Is there a manual eject somehow?
This is a new installation, so there is no previous XP on the Mac...and the original XP disk I have does not have SP2.

Short of opening the mac mini case and the superdrive there is no manual eject that I am aware of.

  • 10.5.8 won't shut down after bad SD disk removal.  It stops all applications but won't get past the final shut down screen.

I had a disk error with a SD disk from my camera.  Removed the disk from the card reader and got the Disk Removal Error alert.  Then the whole thing froze up on me.  Noting else would eject, No other apps would shut down and basically nothing worked.  I couldn't shut down so I removed the battery.  Restarted the computer ok then tried to repair the SD disk in question.  No luck on the repair so ejected it again.  Then tried to restart OS and it won't shut down again except everything still works but it just won't shut down.

Some hard drives shut off with shutdown, some don't. Sometimes hard drives that did shut off with one system will not do the same with a different system. My hard drives which did shut off, prior to 10.5 now stay on.
This is not really a problem as all hard drives spin down after 10- 20 minutes when not in use, whether your computer is on or off. Leaving the drive on is fine, shutting it off manually is fine.

  • Block manual stock removal  for a storage type

    Hi,
Is there any configurational setting where in we can block manual stock removal (i.e creation of TO with mvt type 999) for a particular storage type.
    Thanks
    Prakash

    Hi,
Try using the transaction LS05, give the storage type and the bin range to block all the existing bins.
But i am not sure if there is any setting at the movement type level.

  • How to get Manual disk mode working?

Im at somewhat of a loss,
I know about manual disk mode and how to do it and all http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651 but Im at a loss on what step Im missing.
According to the page, when I put the iPod in disk mode I should be able to see it in windows. But when I put my 5G iPOd in disk mode and hook it to the PC, it acts just like it would if it wasn't in disk mode. iTUnes opens, it auto syncs, I See it in "My COmputer" while this is happening, but when the sync is done it disappears in "My Computer".
I tried ending the iPodservice exe and that works, but it also works even if the iPod isn't in disk mode. So with that said what good is a manual disk mode for my 5G ipod?

The iPod will usually appear in My Computer when connected to the computer. When disk use is enabled, the iPod should not automatically eject from iTunes, allowing you to transfer files without having to worry about when the iPod will eject.
Also, disk mode is different than disk use.
    This is disk mode...
    Putting iPod into Disk Mode
    And this is disk use...
Using Your iPod As A Hard Disk
Disk Mode is more of a troubleshooting step. Disk Use is what you enable if you want to access the iPod's HD to add files. Disk Mode is not the diagnostic mode.
What exactly is happening/going wrong with this?

  • Asm disk removed taking too much time to boot

    hi
a local machine is configured with ASM by oracleasm with a total disk.As it was a training purpose so i have removed the disk eg /dev/sdb bluntly ie. just removing it from box.now i tried fsck -c -c -f /dev/ in rescue mode its didnot worked even not mounting the /mnt/sysimage.It claims for ext2fs error and mounting the fs etc.
Then after lots of days has gone.i fed up with this issues and reinstalled OS.
but my question is what exactly to do?obviously re-installation is not the exact way to do.
    regards

If the +/dev/sdb+ was an ASM disk, then it should not impact the o/s when it is removed. ASM instance itself will fail with an error saying something like it was not able to mount the disk group.
If your system failed to boot correctly after this disk was removed, then +/dev/sdb+ contained more than just ASM data.
We dynamically add and remove ASM (multipath'ed) disks via kpartx - while o/s is running. No reboot. No problems.
I fail to see how a ASM disk could cause the type of problems you describe - unless it was more than just a disk used by ASM alone.

  • ASM Disk Remove/Add Question

    Hello All,
    I have a quick question -
We have an ASM Diskgroup that had 8 Disks in it. I removed 2 Diskss and the Diskgroup has been rebalanced. I have not done anything with the removed Disks.
They both appear in the ASM target as eligble to add back into the Diskgroup.
Do I need to re-format/partition/create disk on them before adding them back in? Would existing data on the Diskl cause an issue in the Diskgroup?
This is the first time I will be adding back Disks that have been previously in the Diskgroup.
Thanks in advance for the advice.
    Michele

    Hi,
Disks eligible to be assigned to a diskgroup must have the status "CANDIDATE" or "FORMER" or "PROVISIONED".
    · CANDIDATE - Disk is not part of a disk group and may be added to a disk group with the ALTER DISKGROUP statement
    · PROVISIONED - Disk is not part of a disk group and may be added to a disk group with the ALTER DISKGROUP statement. The PROVISIONED header status is different from the
CANDIDATE header status in that PROVISIONED implies that an additional platform-specific action has been taken by an administrator to make the disk available for ASM.
    · FORMER - Disk was once part of a disk group but has been dropped cleanly from the group. It may be added to a new disk group with the ALTER DISKGROUP statement.
The ALTER DISKGROUP...DROP DISK without WAIT option statement returns before the drop and rebalance operations are complete. Do not reuse, remove, or disconnect the dropped disk until the HEADER_STATUS column for this disk in the V$ASM_DISK view changes to FORMER.
You don't need change anything on OS Level. Oracle will reuse asmdisk dropped without needs perform any administrative task on OS Level.

  • Disk Remove from 2008R2 Failover Cluster

I have a two node Windows 2008 R2 Failover Cluster with only the File Services Role. There are multiple disks on this server, presented by an EMC storage array via FC. I would like to remove one disk that is no longer in use. The disk is currently in available
storage in the cluster and is in an offline state. The dependency report for the disk shows no required dependencies, no 'AND' relationship, no child resources, and no 'OR' relationship.
When I attempt to remove the disk from available storage I receive the warning "This resource has other resources which depend on it. Deleting it will cause those resource to go offline. Are you sure you want to delete Cluster Disk #?"
How can I determine what resources are dependent upon this disk when the report shows no dependencies? And, since the disk is in an offline state and in available storage, if there are dependencies how are they not in a failed or offline state as well?

    Hi,
If the disk resource is offline for some time and you make sure it’s no longer in use. You may remove the disk resource in cluster. You may try below command:
Launch command prompt with elevated privilege.
    cluster resource
    >> Display the status of a cluster resource
    cluster resource “resource name” /listdep
    >> list the dependencies for a resource
    cluster resource “resource name” /fail
    >> initiate resource failure
    cluster resource “resource name” /delete
    >> delete a resource
Try above command and give us feedback for further tourbleshooting.

  • B-Series Disk details RAID rebuild issues after disk removal

    Hi,
after removing and reinserting one disk from a RAID-1 on our B-Series blades for testing, the disk details for the reinserted disk will not be fully shown.
Only the disk itself gets detected and "Presence" shows "equipped" (see attached screenshot).
It also doen not look like the RAID would be rebuilt.
So does anyone know how to:
    * Get all disk details again.
    * (Automatically) reinitialize the RAID rebuild.
    * Monitor the RAID status.
    * Be notified of a RAID failure.
    Ralph

    Hi,
not very happy with the fact that UCSM doesn't display a disk or RAID status.
Any chance that we might see that in an upcoming release?
    We are using ESX 4.0 U2, RHEL 6 and W2K8 R2.
Hope that MegaRAID tools would work and can be queried by SNMP (or so).
I found out how to get the disk data again and get rid of the following warning that obviously comes with not getting the disk details:
    Description:
    * Server sys/chassis-1/blade-6 does not fullfill Service profile vmw66 due to incompatible-number-of-local-disks
    * ID: 828447
    * Cause: server-failed
    * Code: F0337
    Solution -> re-aknowledge the server...
Any chance that this might be a bug (in 1.4.1i)?
edit: Seems that has been around for a while:

My current virtual disk is 12.4 TB, and I have 4.76TB free in the Storage Space.
Any ideas on how I can remedy this?
    Thanks

    Hi,
What kind of virtual disk  are you currently using, simple, mirror or parity?
If it is simple virtual disk you may not able to repair it as it provide no redundance.
If it is parity or mirror, you need to add a new hard disk for replacing the failed disk before the virtual disk back to work.
However please run following cmdlet first:
    get-virtualdisk -friendlyname <name> |FC
    Check the NumberOfColumns property.
If it is not 1, you need to add more hard disks to get it back to work. See the last QA in this FAQ thread:

  • Storage Spaces disk removal of damaged HDD failing

Hi, and thanks in advance for any help!
The general situation: I have a Windows 8.1 Pro machine acting as a home server. The storage spaces volume (singular) consists of a 4-disk array with 2TB drives in Parity mode. It's usage is 70ish% but honestly, maybe 50GB is important to
recover, the rest are ISO's which I have the physical disks to so no big deal if I lose those. The volume is in a bad place and I need to either get it functional again or get the data off of it and start with a fresh volume.
What seems to be wrong: One of the drives has failed. When the drive is attached the volume (D:) appears to mount but explorer hangs/crashes when attempting to access D:\. Storage spaces hangs/crashes as soon as you click "Change Settings".
Task Manager registers 100% I/O usage of the volume at those times. Taking the drive to another machine and running CrystalDiskInfo indicates a few fatal failures. Removal of the drive returns the system to a functional state but D:\ goes away.
Attempts to fix the issue so far: With the drive attached the storage pool will say 'repairing' and sit at 0% for at least 3 hours (at which point I gave up). All further attempts I've made have been w
ith the bad drive physically removed. Removal of the drive via the GUI shows this error
Can't Remove Drive from the pool
Details: Drive could not be removed because not all data could be reallocated. Add an additional drive to this pool and reattempt this operation
At first I thought, simple: buy another 2TB drive and rinse-repeat. Did that, same error. This morning I went a step further thinking that maybe the 2TB drive was too small, fine- bought a 4TB drive, added that, same error output. Ok, since I have that 2TB
drive sitting on my desk, throw that in too, maybe having both the replacement 2TB drive and additional 4TB drive in the pool is good? no dice, same error.
I work as a systems guy for Linux so command line doesn't scare me, I'm not familiar with PowerShell specifics but I did some reading and tried everything that made sense (after a lot of googling and get-help <command> -full). I can't seem to remove
the drive from the pool and without it the volume wont mount. A general summary of the situation is below:

Are you sure you want to perform this action?
Removing a physical disk will cause problems with the fault tolerance capabilities of the following storage pool:

Any ideas? Again, all I really need is about 50GB of data off this array so if even there is a way to temporarily mount the volume, pull the data, and start of I'm game. Thanks again for your help!

    Hi,
How did you remove that disk and return the disk?

  • Removal of old startup disks

I have always been really conservative when upgrading the operating system. I know have 10.3.9 server, 10.4 server and 10.4 single user. Each one of them is on a separate disk. Now it is time to recover some disk space.
Is there any utility that will clean up old startup disks? If not, can anyone point me to a document on what to do manually to remove an old startup disk?
Responses appreciated, just take it easy on a newbie

Will that delete the files completely and remove it from the startup disk list? Unfortunately I have other things on the disks and can not just wipe the whole thing. I just want to remove all the files associated with the startup disks not in use.

I am using the FAS 3240, and have just got it setup and with 2 shelves connected to it.  I am testing out the command line commands  I was using the disk command, and used the disk remove command on one disk, just to test the command.  The disk is showing as now failed.   How can I now add this disk back, is there a command to undo the disk remove command as I want to add the disk back.We are using ontap version 8.0.2 mode 7.

use command   disk show -n    this show disk unassing, and used command      disk assign id_disk    this asing disk to filer ownership  regards!!!
