Manual "Do Not Disturb" causes Facetime to deactivate?

Recently after updating to iOS 6, I decided to try out the new "Do Not Disturb" feature. Instead of setting the schedule, I used it manually for a while first.
I noticed that if I kept it in "Do Not Disturb" overnight and then turn that off the next morning, Facetime was no longer activated.
If I used the schedule for "Do Not Disturb" for the same length of time, Facetime stays activated.
Strange!

Do Not Disturb only functions when the screen is locked.
See here for a description of how Do not Disturb works:http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5463?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
If you want to mute system sounds like notifications use the mute switch.
System sounds can be muted and controlled in two different ways: either by the side switch (located next to the volume up/down controls) or in the Recent Apps tray. The initial default is via the side switch.
Check the status of Settings > General > Use Side Switch to:. If this is set to Mute, the switch on the side of the iPad will mute system sounds.
If this is set to Lock rotation then the mute system sounds control is in the Recent Apps tray. Double tap the home button and, in the tray which appears at the bottom, swipe all the way to the right. The speaker icon is on the left. Is it is crossed-out tap on it and mute will be turned off and system sounds will be turned ON.
This Apple Support article explains in more detail how the side switch works.

  • Do Not Disturb Issue on Macbook Air OS X Yosemite

Recently I've noticed that my manually do not disturb setting is failing to occur. I've tried restarting my laptop, changing my setting of times and notification settings yet I am always having to turn do not disturb on manually. Although, even doing this is pointless as while do not disturb is on all settings are ignored and my computer acts as if it is turned off notifying me of anything I have set it to notify me of if not in do not disturb mode.
This has been going on since I last updated OS X Yosemite - approximately a week and a half ago, in early April.
    All solutions that I have tried include;
    changing notification settings
    changing do not disturb settings
shutting down laptop for extended period of time
    restarting laptop
manually enabling and disabling do not disturb - fix for it not automatically turning on but notifications still received
I'm wondering if anyone else has been having problems with the do not disturb feature lately and if anyone knows of any possible solutions.
I am hoping to not have to remove all notifications from my computer and to find an alternative solution rather than removing the use of my notification centre from my laptop.

Plug-in disk drives are cheap, easy to use, and an essential. I can't imagine what planet Apple were on when they decided we don't need one.
If you have a Mac with a drive you can also copy the DVD onto a memory stick.
You may have to validate an educational edition, hope you are still a student!

  • On my IPhone 5 with iOS 7, an incoming email is audible even though Do Not Disturb is on, either manually or scheduled.  Any ideas?

You have no make sure that the "Silence" setting is on always.
    To do that follow:
Settings > Do Not Disturb > Silence > Always

  • HT5463 I have an iPhone5,iPad 3 & my daughter an iPod Touch 4th generation. We use Do Not Disturb. It turns by itself at 9:30pm & off at 7:00am. This morning, none of them turned off automatically. I manually backed them up to iTunes yesterday. Any though

I have an iPhone5, and an iPad3 and my daughter has an iPod touch 4th generation and her and I have separate accounts. I backed them up to my PC to iTunes last evening as I do every few weeks. We both use the Do Not Disturb option. Quiet hours are from 9:30pm to 7:00am. The 3 devices always turned the Do Not Disturb on and off according to the schedule on their own. As of this morning, the Do Not Disturb did not turn off on any of the devices. I sync them with iCloud either manually or when charging them. The moon icon stayed on all day today and did not follow the schedule. I had to shut it off manually on my phone. Any thoughts. My daughter initially had used her iPod Touch under an Apple account I made with my information. When I got my iPad and then iPhone5 I created a different account for her. Some items of mine went on her iPod Touch yesterday when I backed them up on iTunes on my PC. Any help is greatly appreciated! Thank you!

It seems to be a glitch or bug. Its been officially acknowledged and addressed by Apple. There is no resolution other than waiting for a few days.   The Kb article by Apple states it will fix itself on January 7.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4510
    Symptoms
After January 1st, 2013, Do Not Disturb mode stays on past its scheduled end time.
    Resolution
Do Not Disturb scheduling feature will resume normal functionality after January 7, 2013. Before this date, you should manually turn the Do Not Disturb feature on or off.
To turn off the scheduling feature, tap Settings > Notifications > Do Not Disturb and switch Scheduled to Off.

  • I have an iPhone 5s and i've been noticing that my phone would go into Do Not Disturb mode at night. So I looked under settings, and there was a profile labeled "Consumer Input" and then I noticed DND was set for 10pm-7am. Does anyone know what caused it?

You downloaded a profile from somewhere. If it's not one you want or need, delete it.

  • Do Not Disturb keeps auto enabling Manual setting

So, my Do Not Disturb works fine when the settings function normally. But I finally figured out what makes it function abnormally all the time.  The MANUAL setting!
I have my DND settings turned to
    Manual: off
    Scheduled: on
All is well this way.  However I will find that I'm not getting any sounds for text messages and I go to check the settings, and somehow, manual is turned to ON again, every time!  No one else is using my phone, etc. I don't reboot it or turn it off very often so it's not being reset that way either. It just happens spontaneously.
So most of the time since I started using the DND feature, my phone has been in an almost permanent state of D-n-d.  It's really annoying and I'd like to know if there's anything I can do to fix this issue with Manual turning itself on all the time.

  • IPhone will not ring if locked even when Do Not Disturb is not on. Even when the sound toggle on the side is not red.  This problem occurs regardless of whether it I have Do not Disturb on (manually, or scheduled) or COMPLETELY OFF.

iPhone will not ring if locked when when Do Not Disturb is not on and the phone is not on silent (button on side is not red).  This problem occurs regardless of whether it I have Do not Disturb on (manually, or scheduled) or COMPLETELY OFF.   I've tried wiping the phone and reinstalling from a saved copy but of course the problem comes back because the problem is inherent in the save.   There are two options under "Silence" at the bottom of the Do Not Disturb preferences.  "Always" or "Only when iPhone is locked".   Those are the only two options and I want neither.  No amount of deselecting will work.  It forces you to pick one.
Does anyone have a solution given that I've better explained the problem?

The settings at the bottom of the Do Not Disturb page do not matter if you have the switch for Manual turned to off, or the Scheduled turned to off.
When the phone is unlocked, if you try to raise the volume of the ringer, what do you see on the screen? Does it say ringer, do you see the word headphones anywhere?

  • Anyway to turn off FaceTime after I scheduled a DO NOT DISTURB in IOS6?

In IOS6 I already have turned DO NOT DISTURB and found I coming calls are blocked.
HOWEVER seems like people can still FACETIME to my iPhone and IOS devices.
    This must be a BUG?

Usually only your Favorites can still get through when Do Not Disturb is on.

  • Schedule DO NOT DISTURB differently on certain days.

I go to college and DO NOT DISTURB is a god send as I can schedule it to work during class time.  However, I do not attend class EVERY day and my schedule varies day to day.
Is there a way (or a way in the works (HINT HINT APPLE)) of being able to schedule the Do Not Disturb feature based on my schedule?  FOR EXAMPLE:
Monday/Wednesday, I have classes from 8am to 4pm.  So I want it active 8-4.  BUT, I want it to reactivate on Tuesdays from 11am to 2:15pm for my classes.  I want DND deactivated Thursday-Sunday.
Right now, the only way I can do this is to manually turn it on and off each time.  Before someone calls me lazy, it is far from laziness.  It allows me to have one less thing to worry about.  It allows me to focus on academics and not if I remembered to turn my phone on and off.
Interestingly, alarm clocks on ipads have this feature.  I have multiple alarms set for different days at different times so I never need to reset my alarm or remember to turn it on.
If DND doesn't do this (and wont do it), can anyone steer me in the direction on an App that does?????
I am an apple lover but I have noticed the last year or so, they have been sending out half minded, half finished apps and products.  Maybe DND should be iOS 7 app with the added features and not iOS 6 with such limitations!
Anyhow, any help with be appreciated!

  • Is the Do Not Disturb mode working correctly in 2013?

I use the Do Not Disturb function between the hours of 11:30pm and 7:30am.  Starting the new year, the do not disturb mode is always on regardless of scheduled hours. I've tried powering the phone off and on.  I tried changing schedules to see if it changed anything.  It still is on all the time unless I manually turn it off.  Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks,

I noticed the same issue. So far I desactivated it... It seems like a lot of issues are happening on iOS in this beginning of 2013... So far I was not able to find a fix.
UPDATE: An "auto fix" seems to be on its way: http://arstechnica.com/apple/2013/01/ask-ars-why-will-apples-do-not-disturb-bug- fix-itself-next-week/ So let's be patient.

  • HT5463 Do I have to enable the do not disturb every day? The moon disappears at the beginning of the next day

When using do not disturb function do I have to set each day?

Only if you do not have it scheduled. You administer the schedule in Settings, Notifications, Do Not Disturb. If you schedule it, then you do not have to turn the switch on in Settings. If you use the switch, then it is manually turned off and on. Once you turn it on it is on until you turn it off, and if it is off, it is off until you turn it back on again.

  • Do not disturb: alerts still audible

When I turn the Do not disturb feature to ON the notification sounds are not silenced. Banners and alerts are not shown but I still hear an audible notification when a new email, Skype, iMessage... comes in. How do I suppress the sounds, too?
    Thanks, Matej

I also recently noticed this as well since I upgraded to Yosemite 10.10.2, I have DND set to automatically turn on at 10pm and off at 7am, and I really do not mess with notifications settings at all, usually just keep the defaults.  However, whether DND is automatically turned on or if I manually turn DND on all iMessage and other notifications are silent EXCEPT for the new mail chime which always sounds, waking me up very early in the morning as my email alerts from the local subway system start coming through.  I have to resort to muting my mac before I go to bed, which kind of defeats the purpose of auto scheduling DND.  At least I'm not crazy and its not only happening to me, but it really needs to be addressed.
Any insight please advise.  Thank you!

  • Do Not Disturb function stopped working automatically

My "Do Not Disturb" function on my iPhone 5 worked per the time schedule I set in Notifications. It only works when I manually set the On/Off function. Does anyone have a fix?
Disregard this. I have the January 7 notice.

I had this problem on 1st Jan, and still have this problem today (2/1/13)
I don't know how wide spread this bug it, but I wouldn't call it sporadic, as I have 2 iPhones (iPhone 5 and iPhone 4) as well as an iPad 3 with the latest versions of iOS and ALL 3 have this DND bug
Its so annoying, i'm just waiting on the fix but for now I have had to turn the feature off completely!
