  • When is 2.0 update out for 1st gen iphones (uk) ??

if any one can tell me thanks.

Hi Guys, sorry for a second take on the question, but I am aware that the new ver2 software is out early July, but are you lot confirming that the early version iPhone will be able to upgrade to ver2 software, or will it only be available to the new G3 Version ? As everywhere I look, nobody actually confirms this!

  • Error: "can not scan for wireless networks" 1st gen iphone running 3.1.2

My iphone will no longer scan for wireless networks. I am running an airport network via my imac and the rest of the computers, as well as two iphone 3GS phones can see it, but my 1st Gen iphone now gives me the error "can not scan for wireless networks". I have done the Home + Power button thing, reset the network settings and no help yet.
    Any suggestions?

OK. There are reports of bad wifi chips, but lets try some more things first.
I assume your router is set to b/g compatible & not "n" only, correct? The iphone only works on g. Next, try this: Shut down the WiFi, and turn off "Ask to Join Networks". Then turn the iPhone completely off, by holding the top button down until the red slider came up, slid it off, and wait a few moments.
Turn the phone back on, then turn on the WiFi, and then "Ask to Join Networks".
    See if that helps.

  • 1st Gen iPhone - ALL songs and videos no longer there. POOF! No sync.

I have not listened to music or watched videos on my 1st gen iPhone in about 2 months. Little did I know, ALL the songs and ALL the videos have disappeared. Gone Poof. I have not synced in a couple of months so it wasn't a result of a new OS. Maybe it's just getting old but has this happened to anyone else? I don't know where they went or when it happened. Gremlins? I am now afraid to reload/sync for fear I will lose pix and contacts. Just want to know if this spontaneously happened to anyone else???

    Hey Larry,
I went ahead and did a "restore" and everything was back to normal. It did take a while, though, as it wiped out then re-copied over 7Gigs of data to the phone. It was a hassle, but all is OK. I'm still concerned, though. I also spoke with a Genius at the Apple store who had never seen this, and thought it was a problem with the "file type" in iTunes, but i checked and movies were still "movie" filetype. He suggested MANUALLY checking/adjusting every file, but that is rediculous and there were hundreds of songs and videos!! Anywho, on my iPhone the date outside of the iPod items (music, videos, podcasts, etc.) was not effected, and all is back to normal after a lengthy "restore." Still looking for a "why" on this one...

  • First impressions of the 3.0 update from a 1st gen iPhone user

MIne is a 1st gen iPhone purchased opening day 2 years ago and I had a brief period of non working stocks and weather apps that are now fine (apparently an issue that was widespread today across the diff iPhones). After that everything is business as usual. I did reset my settings after the install and restore my iphone with a current back up as a precaution and so far works great.
First impressions: The camera is a little snappier and sharper in photo taking.
    Copy and paste: RAD!!!
Voice memos: Can send instantly via e-mail MY LADY LIKES....KINDA KINKY!!!
Find my phone: Would be cooler with GPS the 1st gen won't help you find exactly where it is.
Spotlight: very functional and useful for a phone packed with stuff...like mine.
Landscape keyboard: nice but should have been there 1st time out.
Overall it's the kind of update that a moderately smart user that can RTFM will install and enjoy. If you are an idiot who tries to install it from a buddies computer or likes to unplug things in midstream you won't like it, because your phone will be useless until you do it properly and follow the simple steps.

    hi,
we were trying an export from one database to another- and ran into problems- portal created a package under the portal30 schema (dbms_lob- a copy of which originally exists under the sys schema) that was previously not there.
so we decided to uninstall the portal and the sso schemas. we carried out this step:
    1) Drop the Portal, SSO, and their respective _public DB users cascade.
but the portal30 schema will not allow us to drop the dbms_lob package that it created (which incidentally compiles with an invalid package body)
it continues to give the following error message:
    ORA-00600: internal error code, arguments: [16201], [], [], [], [], [], [], []
is there any way to complete the unistallation of portal without unistalling the entire database?
    thanks for any help.

  • 1st gen iPhone showing up in iTunes as blank window

So, I have a friend who has a 1st gen iPhone...  iTunes said to her "there's a new version of iOS available, would you like to download it and upgrade?"...  She was feeling particularly good about life and decided, yes!  I will upgrade!
The download happened, and the install happened, and her phone became a dead brick.  She called 1-800-my-apple, and they told her "1st gen iPhones can't handle the latest OS, there's nothing that can be done and you have to go buy a new phone".
Gee...  You'd think Apple engineers might have their OS update installers do a device version check to make sure it can actually support the OS it's asking you to install..  Maybe that's just too much to ask for?  I don't know--- Anyway, this was really disturbing for me to hear as I couldn't imagine Apple doing something so irresponsible and short-sighted to their users.  I know someone here is going to reply to this with "dude it's a first gen iphone.. get a new phone", but that's not the point.  The point is, Apple should know what their devices can and can't handle and not just screw over people who happen to not be in the financial position to upgrade their hardware.
Anyway, so, I happened to have a 1st gen iPhone that I was not doing anything with, so I offered to send it to her so she could have a working phone.  I sent her instructions on how to swap her sim card, and so she did that.. and reported to me that after plugging in the phone her itunes shows this:
No options to restore her previous iPhone backups.. nothing..  I tried googling around for this, but found very little information so I thought I'd ask here.  Does anyone know why her iTunes is showing a blank window?  She installed the latest version (10.5 build 141)...  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
    -patrick

I'm in the same boat.  My mother uses my old 1st Gen iPhone as an ipod, and it suddenly stopped syncing music, so I did a restore, and now it just gives me the connect to iTunes screen, but when I do I get the same blank iPhone screen inside itunes.

  • Camera view and take a very different color than 1st gen iPhone-Pls advise

I'm new to the forum. I just recently purchased a 3GS for my wife as a gift.
I noticed her photos, especially indoor, appears more orange-tinted than my original 1st gen. iPhone. The difference is very noticeable when you put side by side for view and snap photo. Note: both phone is currently running on verion 3.0
Does anyone have sugestions as to adjust the white balance?
I dont want to take it back to iPhone store b/c it was jailbreak phone that I brought from an independent store.
    Any help is greatly appreciate.

Similar experience to Salgw here. On the 3GS photos are markedly less warm and vibrant than my wife's OG iPhone, which gives consistantly great results. On the 3GS using the photoshop app one can adjust values to approach a better image, a cumbersome process.
Still, is there a simple workaround to get images like the OG iPhone produced? Is there even an app that does this w/o much fussing around?

  • Can I use my 1st gen iphone as itouch after activating 3GS?

I just pre-ordered my 3GS today and was wondering if I could still use my 1st gen iphone for non-phone related tasks? (Still use my apps, iphone, camera, and other stuff on my home wifi network?) Also will itunes handle more than one iphone profile?

Coreyrich22: some small conditions on this--see the official statement here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3406
iona64: presumably the article above will also be true for the 3G, but I haven't seen confirmation of that yet.
You should avoid the issue by upgrading your iPhone 3G to OS 3.0 before passing it on and activating your new iPhone 3GS. Re future versions, I don't think anybody knows, possibly not even Apple.

  • How to use old 1st gen iPhone as iPod after deactivated?

I just got a new iPhone 4S and gave my first generation iPhone to my kid to use as an iPod. I transferred the phone number so now the new iPhone works as my phone and the old iphone did not connect to AT&T but did work as an iPod (or through wireless). Rather than just sync'ing to his computer, he erased the iPhone somehow while it was not connected to a computer. This apparently erased everything including activation. Now when he hooks up to iTunes on a Mac or PC, he automatically goes to iTunes Store and gets a page asking for him to activate. The iphone has multiple languages on the screen and window for making emergency call so it looks like he wiped the old iphone "clean". From reading discussions, my impression is that iPhone needs to be activated before you can use even as an iPod.  So my question is how can I get this old iPhone to work as an iPod?
I do have Time Machine backups of my Mac from when the old iphone was activated and connected to AT&T.   Is there some way to use this to restore iphone to the way it was before the above?
I suppose the other option would be to do some kind of jail-break fix?
    thanks

    More inof:
I saw an old post that said: "Does original iPhone work without phone service -- Yes, but you won't be able to install future firmware updates or restore the iPhone with iTunes if wanted or needed.. Both require the iPhone being activated."
Not knowing this limitation, we did a full restore/reset on an old 1st gen iphone, so is there anyway to get it working like an ipod.  Per above, I get a screen asking me to activate.
AT&T even obliged me by allowing this phone to be reactivated (for a few days) and gave me a new sim card to put in the phone, but it wouldn't reactivate probably since it's so old:  AT&T didn't know what to do and Apple wouldn't deal with a product out of warranty.
So now phone is not activated and am basically locked out from using as ipod.

  • Cannot download photos from original 1st gen iphone

An aunt passed on her old 1st gen iphone (16GB) to my son for Christmas as a starter phone.  We cannot get the photos he shot Christmas to download to our Windows vista computer. The only way we can get a photo off this phone  seems to be by email - one at a time -Surely there is some better way!
I've downloaded iTunes and it will back-up the phone, but I can't find any way to see the photos.  Following an old discussion we tried to look at the phone files without iTunes (clicking on it in My computer ) and it wants to format the disk.
The phone wants us to connect to MobileMe, but we don't have an account and it is closed to new registrations, and you need a higher iOS to connect to iCloud.    We have downloaded and tried Diskaid based on another discussion and it can't seem to see the phone either, but iTunes can. I cannot find a way to seach the app store and filter by iOS version, in order to find a some other file transfer program that works with 3.1.3 - they all seem to require 4.0 or higher.
I thought Apple was supposed to be user-friendly...but it certainly doesn't seem to support older equipment users very well.

When there are photos in the Camera Roll, the iPhone is also detected as a digital camera when connected to a compatible computer. Photos in the Camera Roll can be imported by the computer as with any other digital camera, which is not handled by iTunes.
Try the Windoze scanner and camera wizard, which works with every iPhone and iOS version beginning with the first - 1.0.

  • Why can't I register my 1st gen iPhone in MY PRODUCTS

I Like to have all my apple stuff registerd and visible on my Apple profile page. But it doesn't show my 1st gen iPhone, which my kids still use as gaming device.
When I try to add it with its serial number, I get a message that the product is already registerd by me, however it doesn't show in the products list.
Not a big problem, but would be nice to have it all in one place . My airport and iPod shuffle do show up.
I guess that it is since 1st gen iPhone isn't supported anymore?
    Thanks,
    Steven

This actually sounds like it may be a browser issue. Do you have a different one that you could try it in? For example, Internet Explorer, Firefox, Google Chrome, or Safari?

After updrading it to 2.0 i cannot connect to cellular data service. I get error message: "Could not activate cellular data network". • Twitter App. for 1st Gen. iPod Touch

I recently was having problems with the Twitter App. on my 1st Gen. iPod Touch and so decided to delete the app and re-download it again, like I had done a week earlier. During the download an error message popped up stating that I need ios 6 or later to download the app. Apple had updated the Twitter App on March 10th and I tried re-downloading March 14th, however a week earlier I was offered the opportunity to download an earlier version of Twitter. I am currently only able to use Twitter via Safari. Does anyone out there have a solution to get the official Twitter App. (And no "Buy a newer iPod stuff"!)
    Cheers
ps IF ANYONE FROM APPLE MANAGES TO SEE THIS CAN YOU PLEASE OFFER THE OPPRTUNITY TO DOWNLOAD LATER VERSIONS OF APPS FOR 1ST GEN IPOD TOUCH

Starting when iOS 7 was released, Apple now allows downloading the last compatible version of some apps (iOS 4.2.1 and later only)
App Store: Install the latest compatible version of an app
Apple did not say why did not allow this option for iOS 3.1.3/1G iPod.
Apple does not monitor these forums. To make a suggestion to Apple:

  • Will 2.0 Software upgrage on 1st gen iPhones enable GPS?

I thought GPS capability was hardware related?
Will the 2.0 software upgrage next month allow GPS capability on 1st gen iPhones as well?

    That's good to know!
I guess Apple should update their website then.
If you go to the iPhone home page and look at the bottom of the screen it says "Current iPhone Owners" learn about the 2.0 upgrade. If you click that link, it takes you to the page that talks about, among other things, the GPS capability, which led me to believe that current iPhone owners (like myself) would get GPS simply with the upgrade!
Kind of misleading on their part.
