Once you move messages to the Trash iCloud deletes them from there, and thus from the server and your Mac, after a week. If you want to keep sent or any other messages locally and not on the server, do this:
Create a new mailbox, making sure that it's under 'On My Mac' not 'iCloud'.
Click the disclosure triangle next to 'Sent' in the sidebar if necessary, so that the iCloud 'Sent' mailbox is revealed.
Open that mailbox and select some messages by clicking the top one of those you want to move and shift-clicking the bottom one. (If there are a lot don't try to do them all at once.)
Drag them to the mailbox you created in step 1.
Wait for them to download - it may take quite some time. This process removes them from the server. (If you want to leave them on the server as well hold the option key down while dragging.)
Don't try to do thousands at once, you will probably crash the process. Do a hundred or two at a time.

Some time ago dragged the Apple Mail program into the trash. (Trying to save some space) Well I have switched ISP's and now need to reinstall it. Unfornatuly my eMac will not read CD's anymore. Is there someplace that I can download the program? Or any ideas on restoring the CD reader.

Well Does your optical drive work any? If so, you may use a Mac OS X Tiger Install/Restore Disk and click on "Optional Installs". See if that helps. Also, look at your System Profiler for your Optical Drive. If you see it, do as I said earlier. If not, then I ask, "Is that your Apple-Shipped drive?" If not, do you still have it? If you do, re-install it. I had the same issue that Optical Disks would not mount, nor is any Optical drive detected. But re-install, the Apple-Shipped drive, and it should appear. (It worked well with me.) If your Apple-Shipped Drive is a ComboDrive, and you have a better drive installed now, then just re-insert your ComboDrive and Archive and Install OS X. (Also a problem, Did you see an unusual folder in the Trash? (Mine started with 502. ...) if so, I don't know where it may go, (I just did a clean install) but it IS related to the problem). An Archive Install should fix this. (Granted your Optical Drive is in a working state) If you don't have it, try purchasing a DVD-ROM drive (They are around $30 US) and install that one. (I recommend that you try a different brand (The Apple-Shipped Drives are Usually MATSHITA or PIONEER Drives) since that folder contains the drivers for that brand). Also just a heads up, The ATA Bus will NOT appear in the System Profiler if it doesn't see any devices that may be connected the ATA Bus.

Mail "skin" for Mail program

I was talking to tech support about putting a notice on my toolbar that I have new mail and he mentioned getting a "skin" for my mail account that shows me on the desktop tool bar (vice the dock) that I have mail. Does anyone know how where to get one of these. I'm skeptical about downloading something "willy-nilly" from the WWW.

Anything that impacts the desktop toolbar to do this would have to be off the web. It also may only be compatible with certain versions of the operating system and break in the next update. I would not modify the system unless you have a backup and know the said program is known to be compatible with the Mac OS X version you are using.

How do I set outgoing smtp port for mail program ?

How do I set a port for the outgoing mail server (smtp)? If you go to
SETTINGS \ <email account> \ ADVANCED
you can only associate a port with the INCOMING SETTINGS. I need to associate a port with the Outgoing Server. How do I do this?

Tap on the outgoing smtp server under Settings>Mail,Contacts, Calendars and your email account. You will then see the advanced settings for the outgoing smtp server.

Mailing lists for "mail" program

I don't see address book in my applications folder so I opened finder> mac> library>applications support I don't see Address book there. I just want to create a list that I frequently send emails to. any suggestions?

I bought my Photoshop Elements 10 last September 6th of this year and I was wondering where I could get a printed manual for the program or PDF that I could print. It is hard watching a video and then doing what they did. I would like a printed manual so I just look at the instruction and then do it. Also am I eligible for an upgrade to 11? If so, how much is the cost?

Mail programs mixed on iPhone 5s

How do I substitute Outlook for Mail program on iPhone 5s?

I misstated my question, without enough detail. I have already synced Outlook/Hotmail on my iPhone 5s and it is running fine, but my two problems are with duplicate contacts that were ported from my old phone when I bought the 5s recently, and duplicate Outlook/Hotmail messages that come in to Mail. I realize Mail is the default, but on my Mini and MacBook I have been ignoring Mail successfully for years and using Outlook/Hotmail exclusively, because I prefer it. As I write this, after looking more closely at the Settings section, I find that I have figured out what to do. Thanks anyway.

thanks for the link. I read through it and you are right, It looks like I'm in violation of the Terms of Use.
However, there are a two things that I find interesting.
There is no acknowledgment whatsoever or any "thank you" from Apple to the potential participant for doing Apple's work for FREE, that is - providing appropriate customer support. Many users, including you David, are spending countless hours to help Apple customers.
Not only does Apple take that service for granted, it also prohibits those who help others to list at least their own website, to let people know what the helpful user is doing for his day job. How about if Apple would prohibit the exchange of business cards at their WWDC for all participants or not allowing their speaker to mention their product or business.
This is an "Apple Support Community" where Apple expects free "Support" help from their customers but overlooks the "Community" part. It doesn't have to go all myspace-style, but you want to get to know the people (especially the helpful and competent ones) and what is wrong to have their website listed in their signature or one line about their new book or video tutorial. As long as it is topic related and not about their sports memorabilia business on eBay.
Letting users know that there is a new book or video or podcast available about the product on the Forum IS HELPFUL to the user community regardless if the post is coming from someone who used the product or the author himself.
The only legal exception I found in the legal document is:
"Do not use the Site to sell or market your products to others and do not post a URL unless it directly answers a user’s question"
That means I can answer a question with a link to my book and the reference to the page number where I explain or answer that topic. Everybody can figure out how to play around that system so why not go the common sense route and get rid of the questionable restrictions in the first place.
And - if you listen Apple - at your next quarterly results meeting, between all those big sales and profit numbers, a nice little thank you to all those "free customer support" on the forums would be nice.
(Was this again a violation of "2.2 Do not add Submissions ... Discussions of Apple policies or procedures"? - I don't know. I usually have a lawyer sitting next to me when I'm writing Apple posts, but he went out for lunch)

For no apparent reason, my email will not autofill addresses. I have no problem on IE, Chrome or Opera. This problem just started with firefox within the last 24 hours. My mail server is AT&T/Yahoo, and I use webmail - not a mail program.

With all other browsers, when I compose an email, once I start to put the recipient's name in the To box, it will autofill the name if it is in my Contacts. This has been the case with firefox until the last 24 hours. Now, firefox does not automatically recognize any of my contacts. This problem is not happening on IE, Chrome, or Opera. I access my email through my AT&T/Yahoo account on the web, not through a mail program.

Specific domain blocked for both mail programs

Hi all. Need some help... One specific domain name's email addresses has been blocked by my mac for outgoing email from both 'mail' and entourage programs. I don't get any error messages but the emails never get delivered. However emails from the domain name get delivered to me just fine.
It is isolated to my mac as I can send/receive using a different computer on the same internet connection to the domain name addresses.
I think it results from a moment last week when I accidentally clicked on 'junk' instead of delete for an email from the domain name thats causing the trouble. I immediately clicked 'this is not junk', and thought nothing more of it. it appears that somehow the computer will now not deliver email to the domain name address in question. Its like a very specific block, but effects both mail programs. Apple Support suggested posting to this disscussion board or an 'archive and install'. Hope someone can help. thanks.

Open one of these messages in the Sent mailbox, and then click on View in the Menubar of the Mail window, place the cursor on Message, and choose Long Headers from the resulting menu. In the Long Headers, is there on named Message ID#? If so, then the message was sent from this Mac, as the ID# must be reported back from the SMTP.
Are you using Rich Text Format, when composing and sending on this Mac? Do these messages have any attachments, or images such as might be in a Signature? If this is the situation, then the RTF may be getting converted to HTML, and a SPAM filter in front of the recipient may be blocking the receipt of messages from this Mac.
Try resending one of these message, after first changing to Plain Text, as a test. Open the message in the Sent mailbox, click on Message in the Menubar, and choose Send Again. Next click on Format in the Menubar, and choose Make Plain Text, and send.

for this program i could send the smart form thru mail but in the inbox i could not
download it it says needed to be decoded properly.file not starting with pdf....

hi krishna,
u r right. there is no error in sending the mail and the file but the problem is that file created and converted to pdf is not done properly.jst verify whether the file is created properly or not .thats the only problem that can occurs else ur program is absolutely right.
