Manual iCloud backup question

I am trying to manually backup my Iphone 4s to iCloud. I  connect only to Wifi, and then I've gone to Settings>iCloud>Storage&Backup>BackUpNow. It runs for 20 minutes or longer and then, right at the very end, it says "the last backup could not be completed"?

  • ICloud backup questions?

Quick question- I see a message that says my phone needs to be locked for iCloud to back up all my stuff? Is that true? or will it back up if I'm using it? I will be going to get a new iPhone very soon so I want to make sure all my data is backed up. Also, approx how long will this take if i only have mail, contacts, photos and music being backed up?

To back up your phone manually:
Connect the device to a power source and make sure that you are also connected to the Internet via Wi-Fi.
Go to Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup and tap Back Up Now.
Depending on the speed of your connection, & the amount of data, an initial iCloud backup can take several hours or more.
Automatic backups to iCloud require your phone be connected to a power source, wifi, & the screen locked.

  • Icloud backup question

Need some help understanding how iCloud backup works.  I have a 200GB plan which I purchased yesterday.   I did the full backup (including photos).    My device stats right now are USED = 22.9GB, AVAILABLE = 33.1GB.    iCloud Storage shows TOTAL STORAGE = 200GB, AVAILABLE STORAGE = 192GB.
When I click into “Manage Storage” (iCloud)  it shows there are “Backups” of iPhone = 2.9GB, iPad = 2.6GB.
When I click into “iPhone” it shows “Next Backup Size” of 13.4GB.   The first item on the list of items to be backed up under “Next Backup Size” is my Photo Library at 10.4GB.
So, the question is…. Why didn’t my Photo Library backup when I did the first backup yesterday?   I had also manually clicked "Back Up Now" a little bit after the initial backup ran.
    Note:  I have an iPhone 5s running 8.1.3 (12B466)
    Thanks!!!!

When it comes to photos, use iCloud for syncing between devices (photo stream), but don't rely on saving photos in an icloud backup - too many users have reported losing photos when performing a restore.
The golden rule of saving/archiving photos is ...
You should be importing all pics taken with the iphone/iPad to your computer regularly as you would with any digital camera.

  • During manual icloud backup can i turn off my ipad

I am backing up my ipad 3 to icloud  manually but  it will take several hours.  Can I turn off my ipad while doing the icloud backup?

    You cannot turn off iPad.
    1. You should enable iCloud Backup
    2. Plug in charger
    3. Put iPad on Sleep Mode
    4. iPad will automatically backup your iPad
Note: Make sure iPad is connected to Wi-Fi

  • TS4124 Icloud backup question.

My old computer crashed. I got a new computer and downloaded itunes, but all my stuff (music and such) is on my Iphone. How do I get it back on my computer without loosing everything. I do have my Iphone backed up to Icloud.

It won't matter that the Apple ID you are using for iMessage is different from your iCloud ID, the iCloud backup will still include your messages.

  • No Manual iCloud Backup in 8.1?

Sigh, I love updates.  But when something is gone that we have gotten used to using it is quite annoying, especially when I spend my time searching for it.  Where is the manual backup to iCloud?????  It used to be in Settings, iCloud.  Now it is not

They do seem to have moved things around, but I presume it should be in the same place on your Air as it is on my 3rd Gen:
When you open iCloud, scroll down to find "Backup", which appears to just be an option to turn it on or off.  Tap that, and "Backup Now" will be available.

  • The icloud backup didn't save all of my contacts

I performed a manual icloud backup. After the backup completed, I checked my contact list online and it did not save half of my contacts. Any suggestions?

You can't check up on whats in a back up, you may be confused about how things work, what exactly are you trying to do.

  • ICloud storage and backup question

According to the most answers that I have been searched here in iCloud ,I found out that iCloud didn't back up all the photos on my photos stream (which I couldnt restore them later -_-") but pictures will be keep in iCloud photos stream just for only 30days Then will be deleted forever. As I experienced updating iOS recently,my phone was cracked during upgrading and I have to restore everything in my iPhone as a default factory setting. once I backup my photos from iCloud,I got only photos that I clicked back-up manually since 2012 :"( and all my new photos were not appeared forever.  In this case, that iCloud didn't keep those photos, why my iCloud storage is showing full?? Any idea...pls advice..

Your iCloud backup only includes photos (and videos) in your camera roll.  It doesn't included any photo stream photos.  You are correct that photo stream photos only remain in iCloud for 30 days.  If you have photo stream photos that are not in your camera roll that you want included in your iCloud backup, you have to save them to your camera roll before performing the backup.

Sorry but I don't understand what you're asking here.  If your question is why is your iCloud storage full, you can find out by going to Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup>Manage Storage to find out what is using your iCloud space.

The iCloud backup does not include non-Tunes purchased music and photos that were synced to the iPod. The iCloud backup does not also included a few other things included in the iPod backup that iTunes makes.
The iPod backup that iTunes makes does also not included non-iTunes purchases and photos synced to the iPod.
free programs like iFunBox with copy non-iTunes purchased music and some other things from iPod to computer.  A paid program like TouchCopy is needed to copy photos synced to the iPod to a computer.

Hold Sleep and Home buttons for 10 seconds until your device restarts, so you will be able to use the iPad again.
The iPad makes a backup into iCloud automatically when it's connected to the network and it is been charged

I recently moved to Australia and received a new iphone with a local AUS number. I have a backup of my US iphone in the icloud. Question: when I activate my new AUS iphone which option should I choose - new phone or restore from backup?  I would like to have all my contacts, email, etc. however wasn't sure that option was appropriate since it is a different/new number and a new phone.

Yes, as new iPhone then restore from backup.

  • Manual and automatic icloud backup failure

Ipad says this morning, "2 weeks since icloud backup".    Unable to use ipad, turn it off, etc.  So, connected it to Itunes and clicked "restore" icloud backup.
    Ipad was restored.
Turned off Ipad and closed Itunes.
Following directions to automatically backup to icloud (plug in, connected to WiFi and locked ipad) - failed to backup
Tried to manually backup - "estimated time remaining......"        doesn't give me a time.
Let ipad sit there plugged in, says it's backing up, but after a few minutes..........says it was unable to backup.
Then I thought that maybe I don't have enough space in my Free icloud acct (1GB left), so I upgrraded to add another 10GB.
I do have it set to automatically backup to icloud.
Opend iTunes again on desktop computer.  I see the iPad in itunes.  Clicked on "back up now" (to icloud).  says looking for ipad.  Then it disappers.
Went back to ipad.  Says it's backing up, then a few seconds later, says unable to bakup.
In iTunes, turned OFF  the sync to itunes with Wifi;  Unplugged ipad from electrical outlet.  on iPad, I made sure the iCloud backup was turned ON.
Hit the "backup now" on iPad.  Says it's backing up..........Estimated time remaining....... - says no time.    Have waited about 3 minutes, and the blue bar showing status of backup is stuck.
    What is going on here?

Same here, restored, completed manual backups which always end up with could not complete.
Slightly annoyed as worked fine before ios7 and my smart playlists are now useless.

  • HT1766 I usually have iCloud backup but I got a notification that my phone has not backed up for the last two weeks, and It wont let me do it manually. Why did it all of a sudden stop backing up?

I usually have iCloud backup but I got a notification that my phone has not backed up for the last two weeks, and It wont let me do it manually. There is also still enough storage space.  Why did it all of a sudden stop backing up?

The HT1766 article you attached lists the prerequisites for an iCloud backup:
iCloud automatically backs up the most important data on your device using iOS 5 or later. After you have enabled Backup on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch in Settings > iCloud > Backup & Storage, it will run on a daily basis as long as your device is:
Connected to the Internet over Wi-Fi
    Connected to a power source
    Screen locked
You can also back up manually whenever your device is connected to the Internet over Wi-Fi by choosing Back Up Now from Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup.

  • When I check my iCloud backup it says it has never backed up and when I try to back manually it gives a message of " estimating back up time" and doesn't back up even after having left it for many hours?

When I check my iCloud backup it says it has never backed up and when I try to back manually it gives a message of " estimating back up time" and doesn't back up even after having left it for many hours?

Yes I have tried that last weekend ad this weekend. I have tried wi fi at different times of the day too; in case it is speed issue. I have tried selecting only backing up limited content and not every thing per what other users suggest.
It's maybe either the router is lousy or there is something wrong with my software or hardware.
    Appreciate your thoughts
    Thanks!!

  • ICloud backup is going to take 20 hours!!

    Hi folks,
Hope you can help with two iCloud problems.
    1) iTunes was happily running on a Vista laptop.  Everything worked fine.  I removed the hard drive and installed a bigger hard drive running Windows 7.  Installed iTunes (ver 11.1.5.5) on the new hard drive.  I was able to swap the old and new hard drives to get the laptop to boot into Vista (old HDD) or Win 7 (new HDD).
I now get a message using the new HDD that if I want to synch my iPhone, it will delete the content on the phone and it will synch with the new iTunes on the new hard drive.
I don't want to do that.  What I want to do is backup the phone to iTunes on the new hard disk and add another album which I am trying to rip and import from CD (subject of another question in the iTunes forum).
    2) the last iCloud backup was in January (using the old hard disk).  When I try to do an iCloud backup on the new hard disk, it is telling me it will take 20 hours !!!
I have backed up the phone to my pc using the iTunes installation on the new hard drive.
For both questions, the old hard drive is non-bootable - Windows Vista has scr*wed up and although I can browse the files and folders on the drive when I use it as an external HDD, when I swap it into my laptop, Windows boots to a black screen with an arrow cursor and won't do anything else (and no, it won't boot into Safe Mode either, nor will Windows Recovery Centre sort it out) - sad times!
Any help gratefully received. Treat me as a 'noob' and please give any instructions in clear, step-by-step manner (assuming complete ignorance on my part).
    Thanks in advance,
    RB
