Manual Install - Sample Database

Hi there,
I'm installing Oracle 9i on SuSE Linux 8.2 for the first time. I had a lot of starts and stops but I finally got everything instaled. Due to problems the Oracle installer did not fully complete and install a sample database. I cannot start up Oracle without having a database to mount (I don't think). Where would I find the SQL*Plus script to create the sample database? Are there any special instructions, or is it just a straight import operation?
Thanks,
Doug

I did run the database configuration assistant. I did not see any options that allowed me to select "sample database". The forms seem to be prompting for general database creation; empty with no data. I went through each form except the last which would have created an empty database.

    Installing Sample Database for OPM Release 11.0.3
    I already installed OPM Application on an existing Vision Database VD11, and I followed the instructions to install OPM application up to end.
    I logged to Oracle Application as user: SYSADMIN/SYSADMIN, and I checked
    in the System Administrator Responsibility\Security\Responsibility all the OPM
    Responsibilities exisit, I assigned all OPM responsibilities to a user: OPERATIONS/WELCOME (OPM Inventory, OPM Financials,....etc), I signed to
    OPERATIONS user, I select one of the OPM Responsibilities (OPM Inventory), here if I try to do some query it gives me error: no records quaried, Okay that's mean I have to install Sample OPM Database Release 11.0.3
    My question:
    In the Sample Database for Apps R11 for OPM CD, I followed the instructions in the sample.pdf file to create a Database, but that .pdf file to create a new SID while I have already installed SID (VD11).
    My request is to import the data for OPM from sample11_03.dmp to my existing
    VD11 Database ?
    The initNAME.ora file in this CD contains roll_back segments (r01,r02,r03,r04)
    while initVD11.ora contains these Roll_back segments (rbs1,rbs2,rbs3).
    How I can modified the initNAME.ora and initVD11.ora to import the data for
    OPM from sample11_03.dmp to my existing VD11 Database or I don't know if it
    should be in a different SID ??
    Are there any NOTE to explain how to install Sample Database for OPM in an
    existing VD11 Database for Application R11?
    Please help will be appreciated.

  • How to install oracle 'sample' database?

    hi
    i want to know how to install the oracle sample database.i am using oracle 9i installed in win XP pro.I have already installed an empty database named 'orcl.world' by following the steps given in 'oracle by example' link http://otn.oracle.com/obe/paa/index.html/
    But its empty and i wanted to install the sample database provided by oracle in order to start practising PL/SQL.
    thanks!

    I'm assuming you want to install the sample schemas since you already installed the database. The standard install includes these sample schemas, but if you're sure you don't have them, you can take a look at this link which will walk you through the steps http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B10501_01/server.920/a96539/installa.htm#4371

  • Install XE sample database on Ubuntu

    I have installed XE on a windows system before and it gave me the option of installing a sample database. However, now I installed XE on Ubuntu but it did not even prompt me to install it. Is there anyway to load it post install, like a script?
    thanks

    Well, it looks like it created the HR user, but that is it. I don't see any tables. Before it added like 5-6 users and all kinds of tables, views, procs, etc. All I am seeing is the system tables, etc. and nothing else.

    I am attempting to install 10gR2 on a Sun Ultra 10 Sparc workstation running Solaris 10. I successfully configured the ASM drives and loaded the software, and am now attempting to install the actual database software.

    Someone else with a similar problem solved it by installing the database software without the sample databases. I'll give that a try tomorrow, but I'd still like to know where I'm even supposed to look to find the problem I had above.
    Thanks,
    Mike McCormick

    Okay, I've found at least one source for this problem. There is a script called mkplug.sql in the demo/schema directory that had a line that began "host imp .....". 'imp' is in the db_1/bin directory, which the PATH variable does not yet point to.
    So, my question now is whether I should change "host imp..." to "host $ORACLE_HOME/bin/imp..." in all the files it appears in (sted_mkplug.sql and sdoepsgv.sql, as well as mkplug.sql), or add $ORACLE_HOME/bin to the PATH variable manually.
    What I'm going to try is to deinstall the database, scrap the directories, then reload the software only. After that, I'll edit the files in the demo directory and use dbca to create the demo directories.

  • Error in creation of sample database during installation of Oracle8

    I am trying to install Oracle8 for Intel Solaris8. Near the end of installation - running database configuration assitant, the creation of the sample database failed by an alert:
    ORA-03114: not connected to ORACLE
    I also tried to run database configuration assistant in custom mode separately, "ORACLE not available" message came up.
    I think ORACLE should be connected and running before creation of the sample DB, like installation of Oracle in Windows.
    Anyone has the same problem or can give me a help?
    The Oracle(8.1.7) CD comes with Solaris8 (07/01) package.
    Thanks.

    I would guess that your kernal parameters have not been set. Check you oracle install guide for the appropriate additions to /etc/system for semiphores and shared memory segments. If you have not made these changes, the database will not come up.

  • Manually Installed Agent is not showing up in the Operations Manager Console Under Pending Management.

    Hi Community,
    I submitted this question because I'm a bit stuck with SCOM 2012 R2, I'll try to explain briefly what is happening right now in my environment,  we have a DEV SCOM Deployment in which all the roles are installed in a single server, this servers is a
    VMware machine running Windows Server 2008R2.
    The Initial installation of the SCOM Operations Manager and all the other components was not performed by me but by a co-worker, unfortunately he doesn't remember much about the initial configuration. So i had to pickup where he left things about a year
    ago, neither of us are SCOM experts, and we have almost no previous experience with previous versions of this application.
    Now the problem that I'm facing is the following, all the DEV Servers are Domain Controllers and one of the indication within the "Guide for System Center Management Pack for Active Directory for Operations Manager 2012" states the following
    Configuration
    Supported?
    Agent-less monitoring
    No
    After my first review I notice that our servers were being monitor by agent-less mode and given the above statement from the Operations Guide the only way that we could ever get those domain controllers monitor by SCOM would be by installing the agent on
    each server, so I read somewhere (Can't remember where) that in order to install the agents in all the servers I should first remove them from the Agent-less node, which I did. Then I tried to use the discovery wizard to get the agent install in all of them
    but it didn't matter how many times I try the servers never show up.
    I read in a Tech Net Article that you had to modify the security settings so SCOM would let me decide if I wanted to approve it or not.
    --> http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh212853.aspx
    I performed the suggested steps from the article but still the servers were not showing up, not even if I run the Discovery wizard, so I decided to go and perform the installation manually in a couple of servers I was able to install the agent in one of
    the Domain Controllers, I configured the agent to use a service account that has Domain Admin rights. An hour after I installed the agent I went back to the Operations Console Manager and I check under Pending Action but the Server was not showing up. So i
    went back to the Internet to try to find out if someone else had experience the same problem, and in one website some mentioned that if the servers were not showing up it was probably because they were still register in the SCOM Database, now I have no idea
    of how i can check that or How can i remove them from there to have them available again, but what troubles me the most is that even after i installed the agent manually the server were not being recognize.
    I went to the Event Viewer and I found one particular event that caught my attention, see below :

    </Event>
    Not sure if this is related to the problem that I'm facing right now, but , I make sure that the RPC Services were running and also the related dependencies too. There's no Firewall enable in any of the servers and DNS seems to be working properly.
    Ports 135 / 5723 are open and listening so since I ran out of ideas, I would like to know if some of the experts in this field could perhaps give me some guidelines.
    There's one caveat that I haven't mention yet and that is related to SQL, I checked and my user just has read access to SQL i'm not sure if that could affect this but i think is worth mentioning.
    My main goal is to have all the servers showing up in the Operations Manager Console.
    So thanks all in advance !

    So you can ping and nslookup from your ms to these agents and vice versa right?  I wouldn't do a manual install, I would push the agent from the management server.  You can uninstall the agent manually, or use cleanmom to get rid of them.  Then
    do an install from the console.  When you initiate the install from the console (management server), should it run into any issues it will dump out an error which will give you an idea of where the problem may be.
    From Holmans post on this:

    1.  Ensure agent push account has local admin rights
    2.  Firewall is blocking NetBIOS access.  If Windows 2008 firewall is enabled, ensure “Remote Administration (RPC)” rule is enabled/allowed.  We need port 135 (RPC) and the DCOM port range opened for console push through a firewall.

  • Beginners Guide Oracle Sample Database

    Hi!
    In the "Oracle Database 10g: A Beginer's Guide" in Chapter 2 a sample database is discussed with the tables customers, products, sales and costs. You need have it to try it the examples. How can I obtain it?
    I have Oracle10gRelease2(10_2_0_1_0) installed on Windows XP Pro SP2.
    Thanks,

    Hi
    What is the link of:
    "Oracle Database 10g: A Beginer's Guide"?
    Maybe this is only a sample schema in a database, not a sample database.
    Create a new one and you will have this sample schema and tables.

  • What are the ODBC connect details for the HR sample database?

    I have installed Oracle Express on Ubuntu 8.10 and read the Getting Started tutorials. Everything worked fine.
    THE DSN
    I need to connect via ODBC, to start with to the HR sample database on my PC.
    The Getting Started tutorial says the userid and password are both hr, but what is the data source name (dsn) to be used with the SQLConnect?
    THE INIs
    The ini files below are the result of googling, not of any insight on my part.

    THE ENVIRONMENT
    Before running my odbc test program I issued
    LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib/oracle/xe/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/server/lib;export LD_LIBRARY_PATH
    and checked via env command that the ldlibpath actually had been set correctly.
    After SQLConnect received the following error:
    Usage error: SQLConnect: dsn=hrdsn, user=hr, password=hr <<< output by my test program
    1: st=IM002, nerr=0, msg=
    [unixODBC][Driver Manager]Data source name not found, and no default driver specified
    The first part of the error message hints at there being something wrong with dsn=hrdsn. I don't understand the second part 'and no default driver specified'.
    I am totally stuck. Advice would be most appreciated.

    Oracle® Database Express Edition Installation Guide for Linux talks about Compiling the Oracle ODBC Driver Demos. It tells you to download and install the unixODBC DriverManager from unixODBC. On Ubuntu this is already preinstalled and/or available via the Synaptic Manager. It also instructs you to run a makefile demo_xe.mk to build an odbcdemo program. The makefile did not work for me (hundreds of compilation errors), but I looked at the odbcdemo.c code and could see that dsn=TESTDBDSN for user=hr and password=hr. In other words, by luck the demo program seems to be connecting to the HR sample database.
    I changed the /etc/odbc.ini file to:
    [TestDBDSN]
    Application Attributes = T
    Attributes = W
    BatchAutocommitMode = IfAllSuccessful
    CloseCursor = F
    DisableDPM = F
    DisableMTS = T
    Driver = OracleExpressdrv
    DSN = TestDBDSN
    and also in my test program which now produced the following error:
    Usage error: SQLConnect: dsn=TestDBDSN, user=hr, password=hr
    1: st=IM004, nerr=0, msg=
    [unixODBC][Driver Manager]Driver's SQLAllocHandle on SQL_HANDLE_HENV failed
    which shows that the unixODBC driver manager has loaded the driver and that the driver immediately encountered problems.
    The sql calls issued before the SQLConnect("TestDBDSN", "hr" , "hr") were OK, i.e. these:
    rc0 = SQLAllocHandle ( SQL_HANDLE_ENV , SQL_NULL_HANDLE , &henv ) ;
    rc = SQLSetEnvAttr ( henv, SQL_ATTR_ODBC_VERSION , *)SQL_OV_ODBC3 , 0 ) ;
    rc = SQLAllocHandle ( SQL_HANDLE_DBC , henv , &hdbc ) ;
    SQLSetConnectAttr ( hdbc , SQL_LOGIN_TIMEOUT , (void*)5 , 0 ) ;
    However, the error appears after SQLConnect and yet the rc0 was reported as OK.
    The error message 'Driver's SQLAllocHandle on SQL_HANDLE_HENV failed' is totally unhelpful to me as a user since I don't know the conditions that lead to failure. I really think this calls for some documentation. Such documentation should be complete, self-contained and correct and give ALL OPERATIONAL steps, i.e. I want to know exactly what I have to do. Ambiguous English often referring to undefined terms is not what Oracle beginners like myself want.
    I don't know if this is a bug. It is so fundamental that Oracle ODBC driver writers could/should not have got it wrong. The connect does not even start.
    I have googled for hours, but every lead has failed.
    I don't want to give up on this. What can I do?

  • Can I create a non-Unicode database manually via create database segment

    Hi
    As unicode encode use more bytes than 2-bytes encode (for instance, ZHS16GBK), and XE has the limit with 4GB totally. So, can I create a non-Unicode (for instance, ZHS16GBK) database manually via create database segment? or I just could use unicode?

    I am used to working with SQL Server 2005 and now working in SQL Server 2008.
    I have used Oracle 10g and 11g in the past but would like to dive into PL/SQL
    SQL Server has always provided a sample database called AdventureWorks and now provides many editions for training and example purposes.
    Is there anything comparable to this in the Oracle World? I have failed to find anything like this anywhere.
    I do realize that there are databases installed with Oracle (SQL Server comes with builtin DBs as well) but nothing seems to compare to Adventure Works. It would be nice to learn Oracle and middle tier applications against some real data.
    I would appreciate any direction on this as to where i can obtain sample databases for Oracle.
    Thanks

    ThanksOralce is not Sql Server and I believe, in Sql Server, the concept of a database within database is called a Schema of a database in Oracle. So Oralce does supply some sample schemas that one can install in his database and use this data for playing around.
    Here is the doc link to give the info that how one can install these sample schemas,
