Manual of Style for templates?

Is there a "Manual of Style" or something similar for each of these templates? There's obviously a lot of rich design built into each template (I'm using Basic) but the designers' intent isn't obvious on everything. For example, only a fraction of the paragraph and character Styles are used on the sheets found in the template. I'll break many of the rules to arrive at my own custom template because my needs are different, but I'd prefer to know the designer's intent at the beginning if possible, especially since their work is so beautiful.

Yes, I'm rather surprised that Apple didn't do a few things:
1. Including styles for books other than graphic textbooks. It'd be great to have a simple novel template available, one without all the graphics that have to be deleted and sections that just get in the way. I hate the thought of spending several hours to figure out how the templating scheme works just to create something simple like the book I'm working on now.
I suspect that's an illustration of the typical corporate problem: the execs get hot about something and everyone runs about making them happy. In this case, the execs are hot about K-12 education and perhaps the possibility of selling iPads to schools by the boatload.
You see that in the claim during the presentation that an iPad is more durable than a textbook. I felt like suggest that someone from Apple and I go to the roof of a four-story building. He drops off an iPad, and I drop off my college physics textbook into the parking lot belot. Which will still be working? Heck, ask yourself which will still be in service five years from now even if nothing is done?
2. No system for sharing templates other than than downloading one from someone else's website and sticking it in an obscure folder. That's at least partly excusable, since this is the 1.0 version.
3. No other text import formats other than Pages or Word. Markdown support would be especially nice since text lines starting this way:

Would import in just the right structure within the template even if they were in a single file.
I did confirm something useful. If you have a string of book chapters, each in an individual file and sorted by name in the proper order, dragging into iBooks Author will import all of them in that same order and as separate chapters. Since that book I'm working on has almost 60 short chapters in Scrivener, that's a relief. And Scivener's developer is promising to create some sort of compile for iBooks Author feature that'd export, with one commmand, the individual chapters in individual files in a way that will import correctly into iBooks Author.
Keep in mind that this app is the 1.0 version probably rushed out to meet a Beat Amazon deadline. Use the provide feedback in to app to make suggestions.

I have a doubt. In smartforms, is there any possibility of different types of border styles for templates and windows other than the straight single line? In the sense, as we see in MS Word, I was trying for dashed or dotted pattern of frame borders to templates in my smartform, but could not find it. Can you please clear my doubt.

I got your problem . But see in smartform only stright line border is possible.if u want to design different borders u have to go for ADOBE FORMS .There you can find for more designs for borders.
All the drawbacks of the smartforms are overcomed in Adobeforms.In adobeforms you can get the form in PDF.

Changing the default location PowerPoint uses for templates

I do not want to use the default location MS Office initially configures for templates that is buried in some obscure folder on a local machine in that only Office know about. Instead want to keep my templates in the same location on a company server
with the rest of my materials so I can access it from my company laptop or from the Virtual machines I am forced to use in other company locations. This way I will have my templates everywhere I work. When I make changes they are available to me everywhere
I work and are not buried in a folder on a laptop or a virtual machine in a conference room half a world away.
MS Word allows users to configure this default location for templates but no where in PowerPoint can I find any way to configure this location. Previously on my laptop I have been able to configure the default PowerPoint template location, I believe, by
setting the location in MS Word; however, this is not happening for me now on the virtual machines I am using when away. I have scoured the Options settings and if it is there it is well hidden.
To make matters worse I am trying to use what PPT is providing to me while I sort this out and when you try to open "My Templates": there is a message that says:
"To add a template to My templates, click the File tab, click Save As, click Trusted Templates, and then save the file as a template."
Of course when I follow these instructions there is no folder named Trusted Templates on the left side of the dialog box. I am not sure why it is so difficult to allow us to configure this ourselves for each program but apparently it is.

As mentioned, if you use Word 2007 or Word 2010 to change the location in which your new templates are saved, you also change the location in which all 2007 Office program templates or all 2010 Office program templates are saved.
Office programs use one registry key to record the user templates file location, you can browse to the following path to check if it's recorded:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Common\General
The user templates location is stored in the
UserTemplates
string value.
If it doesn't exist, try to manually add it, check if this helps. Detailed information can also be found in the kb introduced above.

Adding styles to template (was: Urgent Help Needed)

I have created pages from a template and trying to add css style in an editable region but for some reason it is not happening. In the css style panel i can only see the styles that were created on the template but cant see the new ones created for pages. Can someone pleas help me am using cs6.

Why don't you use an external style sheet instead of embedding styles into pages? It's so much more efficient.

You cannot embed styles into Template driven Child pages unless you have created an editable region for the <head> tag in your main template.dwt file. For better answers, we would need to see your Template.dwt

Trouble creating styles for my BC Blog

Hey so I am no genius in this world of web designing, but I have managed to get myself this far with this website I am building...
I am using Adobe Muse for the general design and publishing to BC. I want to have a blog in my site so I found this video to help guide me through it.

I have managed to get the blog to show up in the right place and everything, but when I go to design the styles for the titles, details and body text of my blog posts, my edits do not show up... The video shows me how to insert the css style codes (or whatever they are called) properly into the "modulestylesheets.css" file in the develop section of BC, but when I refresh the browser nothing changes.
The wierd part of it all is that when I am looking at my blog page in the browser and use the "inspect element" tool to show me the html and css for the page, I can see the correct css style is there, but its just not projecting it on the page.
Mainly I just want the correct font that I chose to show up, which is called "dawning-of-a-new-day"

Yes- as you noted... your CSS styles are present in the page. All the other CSS styles you applied to your elements are taking effect except the font. That's because you can tell your CSS file to use a certain font but you also have to load that font either via a font embedding service like typekit.com or you need to manually create an @font-face CSS declaration yourself and upload the font files to your site as well.
In your case, I did some Googling and found this font on Google Webfonts... so all you really need to do is add this line to the TOP of your ModuleStyleSheets.css file:
@import url(http://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Dawning+of+a+New+Day);
By including that line you are telling the CSS file to import some other CSS file and that CSS file that you are importing is Google's @font-face rules for a custom font like the one you want.
Side note: All your background images are too large of file size. The background image on your blog page, for example: http://michaellaphotography.businesscatalyst.com/images/blogbackground.jpg is 2.2 megabytes. That's a large file. To put it in context, your whole site loads 2.4 megabytes of data and 2.2 megabytes of that is just your background image. I see this constantly with Muse sites.
You have three options:
Change the resolution from 3,000 x 2,000 or whatever extremely large background size you are using to something like 1,920 x 1080 since most devices don't get much larger than that. Retina iPads might have a larger resolution or HD Android devices but that might not be most of your users will probably be on desktop.
Keep the resolution the same but you should utilize jpeg compression since it's a jpg file. You can export/save the jpg with a 60% quality which will greatly reduce the file size
Lower the resolution AND export/save with lower quality to enable jpg compression.

Using Custom Styles for Levels in Outline View

How do you associate different levels in the Outline View with custom styles? By default they are associated with Heading 1, Heading 2, etc.

Styles apparently have a hidden "my associated outline level is #" property. However you have to start with a style that has this hidden property set as there seems to be +no way+ to access or change this property yourself (This is unusually poor interface design from Apple - they've traditionally been better than that.)
You essentially need to use only the names "Heading 1", "Heading 2", etc, for styles associated with outline levels, and you can't create these styles yourself. You can change the formating of these styles in the normal way: Start with a paragraph formatted using "Heading #", changing the outline level to the appropriate one, manually change the text to look the way you want, select the new formatted outline level paragraph, and do "redefine style with selection". You can't just apply another style, it over-writes the hidden outline level # property with its own, usually "body", making it really difficult to add an outline to an existing document - you have to re-create all the styles.
You can have mutliple styles that apply at the same level by doing the same as above, but instead of redefining the appropriate "level #" heading do "Create new paragraph style from selection". (You have to name it something other than "Heading #").
Applying this style gives a paragraph the associated outline level as well. Unfortunately, if you promote or demote an "outline level #" tagged paragraph, its hidden "outline level #" property is changed and the new style will always become the "Heading #" style associated with the hidden "outline level #" property. There is no memory of where it came from, of course, so if returned to its original outline level, it looses the "custom named style". There is no way to tell Pages that it should choose your custom named style by default instead of the "Header #" style for a given outline level. I can see no reason Pages couldn't do this too.
I have a complicated document that was written with consistent styles for headers, and now want to use the outline feature. I have to literally recreate all the heading styles from scratch. I can then do "select all instances" for my former styles and then click on the "Heading #" style reformatted as a copy, changing them to exactly what they were before, except with the new mandated name and the one magic hidden property changed.
There is also some weird behavior used to hide unused "Heading #" styles: You can see evidence of this if you repeatedly demote an outline paragraph; the extra heading styles automatically appear in the style draw. Then if you then repeatedly promote the same outline paragraph, these intermediate styles go away. How that works without loosing user-defined styles with the same name I have no idea.

Can I have 2 different styles for Footnote numbers and footnote text?

Hello,
I have a document with plenty of footnotes.
I would like to assign all the footnote numbers to a character style, and all the text to a different character style.
For example, I would like to have the footnote numbers in bold and in black, while the footnote text in light and in dark gray.
Doing this manually isn't an option obviously.
Is that possible?
If not are there any scripts out there that can manage it?

It is simpe to make.
Crete a Chyaracter Style for the footnote number.
Set up the Paragraph Style for the Footnote text.
Go to the Nested Styles section
Select the Character Style
Apply it to the first specified separator symbol (like tabulator) you have choosen when you have set up your footnotes.
Use it. It will apply automatically. Of course, you have to choose this Footnote Paragraph Style in the Footnote Set Up Settings in the Type menu.

ChildWindow control default style and template - VS2013 Silverlight5

Is there a updated version of ChildWindow control default style for VS2013 SIlverlight5. I am customizing the style to remove borders and the default style
that I found on MSDN library seems old (2012). When I apply this style, the child window is placed at the top left corner (bug!?) instead of center.
Could some one provide the latest version of the style template.

How to discover all available font styles for a given family?

I'm using InDesign CS3 and need to discover all of the available styles for any given font. I've found Application.Fonts.itemByName(), but this only returns a single font by the full name. Using ExtentScript in CS3 How can I ask for ALL font styles for any given font family (as displayed in the styles drop-down?)

I was just searching the web trying to find why this piece of code:

take 4+ minutes to execute.
app.fonts.everyItem().getElements(); did the trick, sweet!!
However, I would like to ask you whether you know if there is some handout or some guide (possibly online page) for such advanced scripting...

More than one style for a single link state?

Is it possible to define more than one style for a single link state?
For example, I would like a link in the footer of my master page to be smaller than the links that appear in the body of my topics. I want to retain behavior, and simply change the point size.
I can't simply hand format in Design mode, because my link is within a script. Or, am I missing something easy here?

I'm pleased to say I figured out how to change the formatting of a hyperlink embedded within a script.
Within the script, I used a var string to reproduce the text in my link. Then I used another var to change the string size.
So, here's the part of my script that produces what I'm after:
var mailDisplay = 'Was this information helpful? ';
var str = 'Was this information helpful?';
var mailDisplay = str.fontsize("1");
Upon generation of the CHM, the script trumps the CSS. It's a beautiful thing.

How can we align the text inside the JTextArea using synth style xml file.
We defined a style for the TextArea. But the text is displayed immediately after the border. So we want to provide some space between the border and the text.We specified the insets as given below. But it is not reflecting during runtime.

I created a new set of Flex component library slib.swc (Flex 4.5). Would also like to have a default style. defaults.css file, making it the default style of the component library.
Like flex the builder install directory of sdks \ 4.5.0 \ frameworks out \ libs directory has a spark.swc file, open with Winrar will see defaults.css this file. Defaults.css file defines the default style of the flex spark components.
How can it be achieved?
As follows
slib.swc contains a CLabelEx components, and a defaults.css file
defaults.css source file as follows:

dj is right. Any Folder can be a picture folder.
Create a root level folder and add it to your Pictures Library in Windows. It will show up with all the scattered pictures from other programs. It can even be a different dirve if you like. You can even specify one to be the default save location for pictures in this dialog.
Navigate to Pictures in your Libraries in Windows Explorer Right Click and select Properties.
