Manual photo library with icloud

How do I sync desktop photos using icloud and iOS8.0?  I have previously synced photos to a folder other that the default images folder with the manual sync selection option of iTunes.  My new Iphone 6 phone was configured using icloud and syncing wireless over the internet.  I'm looking to re-sync or re-add additional pictures located on desktop machine with the Iphone 6's photo library.

If you turned on iCloud Photo Library it disabled your ability to use iTunes to sync photos and videos between your computers and your iOS devices. As far as I can tell, this feature is gone until (maybe) when Apple releases their new Photos for OS X app sometime next year.

  • How to share the Photos library on iCloud Drive with other family members?

I have uploaded our family photo-library to iCloud drive (136GB+). It works great!
But how can my wife (with her own iCloud-account, but within the family) see and use our library?

Tnx for the reply, though I already feared this was the answer.
Family sharing works well for keeping contact lists separated and we do not need to see all the crap the other half shoots with their iPhone.
But as family-members, we DO want to use our communal photo-library.
It would be great if you could share your entire library with family-members or at least select which albums to share with who.
Also it is silly that you can share a photo only to one other iCloud-album. If I shoot a nice pic of the kids I would want to share it with my wife AND with others.
The same would work for contacts. The family-head should be able to assign which contacts are shared and which are separate.
I hope Apple will update the family-possibilities so that this is fixed.

  • HT204486 Sharing Photo library with family members with different iCloud accounts?

How might one share Photos library with family members with their own Apple IDs?

    I would try the following:
    1. Create a smart album. Match condition as "Album" is "Any". That should capture all your photos and videos as of now.
    2. Share that Album via iCloud photo sharing, sending invitations to the family members.

I have a MacBook Pro version 10.7.5 Every time I try to open iphoto I get the warning: "To open your library with this version of iPhoto, it first needs to be prepared. Thank you!

No I have not tried those things. I don't even know what that means I suppose I have the newest version of aperature; I just bought it 4 days ago.

  • Photos app do not back up my Photos library into iCloud

I have just updated to OS x 10.10.3.
When I tried to enter the Photo app, I got the message ״There is not enough disk space to migrate your library. It is estimated that you need at least 33GB of additional free space.״
I have a 256 GB SSD hard drive, Mostly occupied by images and videos that where in iPhoto app.
By your recommendation  I made the following steps:
Get another drive and move the Library there:
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.
After doing that, I noticed that the Photos app created a new "Photos library" in my external HD.
I deleted the old "iPhoto library" on my internal HD and copied the new "Photos library" from my external HD into my internal HD.
I defined the new "Photos library" on my internal HD as the "System Photos library".
Now I can view and edit my photos on my internal HD, but it doesn't back up my "Photos library" into iCloud (I did all needed in Mac System Preferences/iCloud and in Photos app/Preferences/iCloud).
What can I do in order to back up my "Photos library" into iCloud?
    Thanks,
    Arik

Update - it started uploading "items" to iCloud.

  • Sync iPhone 4 Photo Library with iPhoto?

How do I sync my iPhone 4 Photo Library with iPhoto?  I am able to sync the Camera Roll with iPhoto, but I cannot locate the Photo Library (899 pictures) when syncing from iPhone to iPhoto.
    Thanks!

The photo sync is one way - computer to iphone.
You cannot sync the photo library form iphone to computer.  Since the pics came from your computer in the first place, they should still be there and should be included with your regular backup of your computer.  The iphone is not a storage device.
The pics are reduced in resolution when synced to iphone anyway.

  • HT6378 Can I share my iCloud-Photo-Library with my wife, so that photos from my iPhone and all photos from my wifes iPhone are in the same Photo-Library?

I have a Apple-ID and my wife has her own Apple-ID, but I want to use only one iCloud-Photo-Library. Is that possible?
I have created a Family-Sharing, but when I now set Foto-Library to on at both of our iPhones, I have one Library for my wife and another one for me.
    Is there a trick?

Someone else can probably answer the family sharing question better than I can, but I wanted to respond with an alternate suggestion. I didn't find the features I wanted in family sharing, so I didn't give it much of a chance. It did seem like you'd have a separate album for each family member.
I just recently started using Flickr and it's great. I looked into it a few years ago and there were limitations on how many MB's you could upload per day and I don't remember being impressed by the amount of free storage. Now Flickr gives you 1000 GB for free and stores the image in the original quality and size. If you download the Flickr app on your phone, you can set it to automatically upload all of the new pictures on your iphone, ipad, etc. If you and a family member share a Flickr account, you can both auto sync your camera rolls into the same Flickr account.
Personally, I'm using Flickr as a way to automatically back up photos for free. I quickly ran out of free icloud storage and I haven't wanted to pay for more.In Flickr, the auto uploads from your phone are set to private by default, but you could use flickr to share albums with friends who don't own any apple products... unlike icloud photo sharing, that only allows your friends with an apple device to view shared albums.

  • ICloud Photo Library with automatic photo upload services such as Dropbox and Google

After enabling iCloud Photo Library in iOS 8, do automatic photo upload services such as Dropbox and Google+ still upload photos in full resolution?
Or do they upload the low resolution file?

About iCloud Photos Library Beta, it is yet more a preview than a beta
Do not rely on it to store full res Photos/Videos even if you have a 200GB iCloud Store
Major Bugs (according to help description of fonctionality):
-only IOS8 Photos manually edited are uploaded full res from IOS ! If you do not edit you get low res photos in iCloud Library
-uploaded 1080p videos from IOS are converted to 720p 5mb/s as in existing Photo Sharing and not originals.
-No upload button in web iCloud photo Client on MAC for many (all?) users
Also very slow and very often stuck doing nothing.
I am afraid we would have to wait for next year... or later
What is unbelievable is that there are no information at all by Apple about what should word on the beta, and known problems, nor any release date, that is definitely not a beta, just powerpoint preview. I am very angry after all the fuss they have done around "new" iCloud and my 200GB monthly payment that I cannot use.

  • Can i share existing albums of photos from my photo library with friends straight to icloud rather than having to create a new shared folder and then select the individual photos rather than a whole album??

    Ok to clarify -
    1. i want to go into my photos on my iphone 6.
    2. create a new folder in shared folders.
    3. Add an entire album of photos from my photo library rather than having to select individual photos.
    4. Share with friends.
Surely the reason i have saved certain photos into albums already from my mac means i like the selection already. So i would like to just share the whole album rather than having to select all the individual photos from the album. Ive tried but maybe im being a doofus and missing something??????
Any help would be most appreciated.
    thank you in advance
    Kris

This is normal and is how Apple handles photos.
    There are NOT duplicate photos.
Just as a song is in your itunes library and you can access that exact same song from a playlist,  all  photos synced to iphone are in the photo library and those exact same photos (NOT duplicates) can be accessed from the individual albums.
It is working exactly as it should.

  • Photo resolution with iCloud photo-library bèta.

You guys probably know about the new iCloud photo-library beta version.
    This is what Apple says:
" iCloud Photo Library helps you make the most of the space available on your iOS device by automatically storing the original high-resolution photos and videos in iCloud and leaving behind the lightweight versions that are perfectly sized for each device."
Does this mean that the quality of my photo's is less good then

Yes it will when storage on the phone will become tight.

  • ICloud photo library and iCloud storage

How do I clear up my iCloud photo library because I uploaded all my photos to my Mac so they're safe and I deleted a lot from my phone because I had no use for them since they're  on my computer but I still have like no storage on my iCloud. So is it best that I turn off I loud library to clear and then after 30 days turn it back on ?

yeah, I don't think they are allowing you to do this. You can only optimize the locally stored photos, and if the phone fills up with those, it will then dump some from your phone but keep them in the cloud. Like you, I was hoping that once you store a photo in iCloud, you could remove the local copy of the photo. and worse, if you do start deleting photos from your phone, it sounds like they automatically get deleted off of the cloud, after 30 days that is. Doesn't make sense to me. Finally, on your mac, if you have more photos than you have iCloud photo storage, it just stops syncing, rather than just storing your most recent pics?!?

  • Manually Sync iPhone with iCloud & Devices

I am manually Syncing iCal my Mac with iCal on iCloud. Can I manually sync my iPhone iCal with iCloud iCal.
I have stopped syncing at the moment because the iPhone battery was running out in a few hours and the phone was running hot and syncing just wasn't working. After 5 minutes of tunring off iCal/iCloud syncing my iPhone cooled down. Afer one hour the battery charge has sayed the same.

With the exception of photo stream, iCloud doesn't sync your apps or photos between devices. You will continue to sync this content via iTunes in the same way as you do now.
Photo stream allows you to sync your most recent photos between all devices, you have the option to use photostream or not.

  • Can't share photos using shared Photo Stream with iCloud Control Panel for Windows

BACKSTORY: My friend took pictures of my family. I want to see the pictures he took. We live about 2.5 hours apart by car. Gas prices are too high for me to just drive down with an external hard drive to get the pictures and I might as well throw my money out the window if I were to ship him a hard drive and he ship it back. SO. I ask him if he would share photos with me and he quickly agreed. He added me to a Photo Stream  he has. ok cool. I recieve the invitation email just fine but this is the error I get when I click on the link:
    ERROR MESSAGE:
    Photo Stream
Follow these steps to join a shared photo stream
1.Make sure you have an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch running iOS 6 or a Mac running OS X 10.8.2 withiPhoto 9.4 or Aperture 3.4 or later installed.
    2. Sign in to iCloud on your devices.
    3. Open the invitation email on an updated device and tap the Join this Photo Stream button.
    WHAT I NEED:
How can I view shared photo streams using iCloud Windows control panel 2.1.2.0? How can I work around this error message? I don't own any of these products that apple wants me to own in order to view these photos! I don't have the cash to go out and purchase them. What can I do to get "my" photos? Do I have to be signed into my friends apple id to see the shared photos?
    What I've tried:
I already have the icloud control panel installed and updated to the latest version.
I'm signed into iCloud on the control panel. (no apple id password issues)
    I have photo stream checked.
I have my photo stream checked
I have shared photo stream checked.
I have tried copying and pasting the link into the address bars of Safari for Windows, Google Chrome, Internet Explorer,  and Firefox respectively and pressing enter to load. all present the same error message.
I visited iCloud.com to see if there was anywhere to access the shared photo stream there... No option exisits
Checked my photo stream folder in windows explorer. it's completely empty. I haven't put any of my own photos there so nothings missing per se... I just can't see my friends shared photos.
    MY SET UP:
    Windows 7 64bit Home Premium
    4gb of RAM
    iCloud control panel version 2.1.2.0
I don't own any version of Outlook, (if that matters. I doubt that it matters at all in this case.)
I don't have any iOS Devices or a mac capable of 10.8. My MacBook is stuck at 10.6.8. It's a late mid 2008 just before the aluminum unibody computers came out. If I had only waited another month... sigh. Murphy's Law is alive and well.
any sugestions, especially correct answers, are welcome. please help me figure this out. Thanks in advance.
    Desert_dweller5

    Hello desert_dweller5,
It sounds like you art trying to access a Shared Photo Stream, but you do not have one of the devices to enable your Apple ID as an iCloud account.  The following article provides information on how Shared Photo Streams work:
    iCloud: Photo Stream FAQ
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4486
The article states that for privately Shared Photo Streams to work, the recipient will not only have to have an Apple ID, but it will have to be an iCloud account:
Friends and family with iCloud accounts can view your photos in the Photos app on any device using iOS 6 or later; on a Mac in iPhoto 9.4 or Aperture 3.4 or later; on a Windows PC with Windows Vista or later and iCloud Control Panel 2.0 or later installed; or on a second generation or later Apple TV with software version 5.1 or later installed. They can also view your photos on the web if you enable Public Website in the settings or options for your Shared Photo Stream.
Since you do not have an iCloud account and just and Apple ID, your friend can share the photo stream as a public website so that you can view it, as stated in the same article:
Can I share with people who don't have an iCloud account?
Yes. If you enable Public Website in the settings or options for your shared photo stream your photos will be published to a website that anyone can view in an up-to-date web browser.
To be able to change an Apple ID to an iCloud account, you would need an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iOS 5 or later or a Mac with OS X Lion v10.7.4 or later as stated in the following article:
Creating an iCloud account: Frequently Asked Questions

  • Photo Library with duplicate pictures

I need help with the photo sync function. When syncing photos from my computer to my phone (via iTunes), a folder called Photo Library is automatically created on my phone, containing duplicate pictures of every picture being transferred.
To be specific and very clear, I have the Camera Roll on my phone. I have two folders on my computer with pictures which I want to add to my phone. These folders are titled "Miami beach trip" and "Hollywood trip" and contain 50 pics and 30 pics, respectively.
When I tried to sync the photos using iTunes, I ended up with 3 folders on my iPhone, in addition to the Camera Roll. I ended up with the Miami beach trip with 50 pics, hollywood trip with 30 pics, and a Photo Library folder with 80 pics (duplicates of all pics from Miami trip and hollywood trip).
Is there a way to sync so that I don't end up with duplicates? I tried deleting the iPhone Photo Cache folder before syncing and that did not work. Please help.

So this is normal? Is there a way to NOT have the Photo Library folder? It is pretty redundant and I would prefer to NOT have the same pics appear in more than 1 folder.
When I first realized that the Photo Library folder automatically appeared with the same exact photos from other folders, I became quite frustrated. I started messing around with the sync function. I would delete the iphone photo cache, then sync. Then I removed the folders that I had just added. Then I synced again. I did this quite a few times and somehow, I finally was able to add a folder without the Photo library containing all the pictures.
It was a fluke and I don't even know what I exactly did. I can't get it to work this time around but am convinced that there should be a way to do it.
Do you know how? Thank you for your time and help.
