Manual settings for underwater use

I have a S110 camera which I would like to use underwater in M (manual mode) but have trouble with "overexposure".  I set the file capture to RAW, shutter speed to 200, aperature to 8.0, and ISO to 80 and still have all the pics overexposed.
What am I missing??
Richard

We need more info to help. Are you snorkeling or diving? Is the background open water or the sandy bottom? Flash or natural light? There isn't one setting that fits all of the variables. You use a combination of aperture & shutter sped to get the correct exposure & work with the ISO to keep you within a workable range of those settings. It's a bit easier with a DSLR thanks to smaller apertures but you can still find workable settings on a P & S.

  • How do I restore the settings for apps using Time Machine?

I believe there are problems with items within the Library Folder inside the System Folder.  For example, there are two "Frameworks" Folders, but one has "(from old Mac)" after its name.  I dare not try to remove or even move either.
Back in the day of OS 9, you could modify something, then search for it by "Last Modified" Date, and find where Apple has hidden itscontents.  It's not so easy in OS X.  I've had some success using Pondini's Time Machine FAQ's, though.  Here is how I got to this problem:
Our family MacBook died.  After getting a repair estimate of $500 to $700 "if it's the Logic Board," we decided to replace it.  We purchased a MacBook Pro running Lion.  (Later, we brought it to an Apple Store and were quoted $435 in house or $280, but they would have to send it out.  Incredible repair: Logic Board, Top & Bottom Case, Super Drive, Battery, all for $280.  No wonder they're #1).  I pulled the Hard Dive out, erased it, and installed an older operating system, but during the repair they installed 10.6.
Restored the MBP from the TM backup of the MacBook. OK
The Macbook is repaired and the store showed me how to restore the data from the TM backup.
Restart and the passwords do not work due to restoring a 10.6 machine from a 10.7 backup.
Tech support guides me through resetting an admin password using the password utility on the install DVD.
changed the other passwords inside of Accounts in System Preferences.  Then changed the password or the other Admin.
Restart, get a circle with a line through it.
Tech support guides me through fixing this.
Restart, half my Apps do not work.
Tech support says to re-install 10.6.
I did but I thought it would erase and install but it just re-installed 10.6.
Most Apps work, except iPhoto.  Mail is OK sending but only receives on one of 3 accounts.
Is there a fix for iPhoto & Mail?  If not, I would plan to erase and use the finder to drag the user folders from TM to the MacBook.  Can I just drag the Apps too?  How about all of the settings for those Apps?

If you don't keep a backup, you can't restore your machine to any state except the state in which you received it, brand new, with none of your own stuff on it. That makes a pretty convincing argument for backing up, doesn't it?

  • How do I access my raw settings for further use?

I opened a jpg in CR, made some changes, opened the image, then saved (from within PS) and closed it.
Later I needed to create a duplicate of this image and apply the same CR settings I'd used, but I can't find them. When I open the original jpg, all of the CR settings are set to zero.
Is there any way I can access the CR settings I entered? I want to see what they are, not delete them, not get back to the pre-CR-edit stage.
If this is not possible, what could I have done otherwise to retain access to my CR settings? Should I have saved the image from within CR? If so, how would the CR settings be availalbe for tweaking or copying?
Is there an automatic xmp file that would have this info, and if yes, where would i find it?
Finally, how do I save CR settings in the future for subsequent access?
    Many thanks!

The xmp data is written into the original jpeg file, not a sidecar file.
Here's the drill (I'm doing it as I write this msg):
    1. Select a jpeg in Bridge.
    2. Right click on the image and select Open in Camera Raw...
    3. Perform an edit (I did a drastic exposure reduction to make the edits obvious).
    4. Click on Open Image, comes up in Photoshop with edits.
    5. Shutdown PS and Bridge.
    6. Re-open Bridge, select and open same image.  Opens in Camera Raw automatically, shows edits, and new CR settings.
As I stated in my earlier post, the only way to "de-Camera Raw" the jpeg image is to clear settings from within Bridge.  Again, the jpeg is being re-written with the edits within the file as exif data.  And no, there is no message that such a re-write is occurring.

  • Best settings for what used to be HDV, became M2V?

I have some concert footage I shot in HDV60i (on a Canon HV40). I only exported it to DVD and not to an HDV file, so all I have now is an M2V file and an audio file (AAC). Now I need to upload it to youtube, but I have to do some editing in FCP6 first. What is the best sequence settings for me to use in FCP? My second question would be how should I export it for best viewing on youtube (since it's no longer a true HDV file), but that question may be better served for the Compressor forum...any info would be appreciated though!

    hi,
well a lot depends on the footage you might be using. Use the setting that matches that. Or if its graphics based use the biggest baddest HD setting you can. Of course if the finished thing is getting burnt to a DVD to be shown its all going to be compressed then and lose quality at that stage.

  • Nokia Lumia 520 - manual settings for internet

I have just got a Nokia Lumia 520. In the UK using Three everything worked well. I live in Spain and have swapped the SIM card for my Spanish Masmovil SIM - my deal includes 1GB of data.
The Spanish instructions on www.masmovil.es show a Nokia Lumia with different screen options and I cannot find "configuration" so I can set up the APN for Masmovil.
    Help?

This is not a reply but additional information.
The link to the masmovil website - manual configuration is http://masmovil.es/en/configuring-devices/
Point 2 says choose "configuracion" which is obviously "settings" and I can follow through to step 4 when the display on the website says "click on ADD APN" also shown in Spanish as "agregar APN"  however all that is shown on my Nokia below "Network Selection" which is set to automatic, is SIM Applications.
If I click on that I just get the "recargar" or "recharge" option ... which is not APN. I am on a contract so there is no requirement for Recharge anyway,
Confused?  Well I am too ....

  • Settings for optimum use for MBP / Dell 27"

I recently purchased a Dell 27" monitor (which is lush to use for my MBP main display and xbox360 etc.
The MBP display is 1680x1050 but the dell display is 1920x1200 meaning i have to down-rate my display otherwise i have a big blue band around two side of the dell display.
Therefore im not using the display at its optimum settings.
Can anyone over any advice or should i look at purchasing a new laptop capable of displaying the 1920x1200?

Hi Phil: With the external monitor connected, go to System Preferences > Displays >Arrangement Tab. You will no have 2 separate windows for monitor settings. On the one with the "Arrangement" tab uncheck the Mirror Displays box. You will be able to set each monitor to their native resolution. To utilize the external monitor, just drag any open program/application to the external.
    Hope this helps

  • Recommended Quicktime settings for web-use

    I am preparing a standard definition video ( 640 x 480 )

Am I alright with H. 264 export as a Quicktime .mov file,

    would be more favorable.
It is an older version of Final Cut - 5.1.4, and I am not seeing

  • Memory settings for Windows using newest bits

    Hi All,
I the install guide for this newest set of bits, I suggested memory settings of 1.5GB for the Xmx value. This doesn't work for 32bit Windows.
On Windows, if you bump up the -Xmx, then you cannot use the PermSize parameter.
The heap size is calculated as -Xmx + PermMaxSize. If these two add more than 1408MB then WLS will not start.
Here is the recommendation for Windows 32bit:
    set DEFAULT_MEM_ARGS=%DEFAULT_MEM_ARGS% -XX:PermSize=128m
    and
    Xmx 1024
    and
    Managed server configuration
If you are using 32bit Windows, please share your experiences.
    Heidi.

So, you do not recommend a single instance install on Windows XP? On our local XP machines we had been running single instance because it seemed simpler and it was recommended in the install instructions. On our shared Windows server the managed server configuration was used.
I have been able to run the latest release of the WLS and BPM Workspace on my local XP machine using these settings configured in my setSOADomainEnv.cmd file. It is very SLOW....30 second response time, but it does run. These same settings are not working for everyone else on my team....they are still playing around to find the right answer for their local XP machines.
    set DEFAULT_MEM_ARGS=-Xms640m -Xmx768m
    set PORT_MEM_ARGS=-Xms768m -Xmx1536m
    set DEFAULT_MEM_ARGS=%DEFAULT_MEM_ARGS% -XX:PermSize=128m -XX:MaxPermSize=512m
    set PORT_MEM_ARGS=%PORT_MEM_ARGS% -XX:PermSize=256m -XX:MaxPermSize=512m
I have noticed, however, that over time (maybe an hour or so) the admin server starts sending out of memory warnings. So, I have to stop WLS and restart it in order to keep working with reasonable response tiems. Often these out of memory warnings start when it is running but idle.

  • Ever since upgrade to iTunes 11 i get an error message states registry settings for drivers used to import cds are missing

Error message suggests reinstalling itunes - done. Nothing. (So thats the official Apple suggestion beig useless). Tried a number of fixes listed here after search revealed others had this problem. reinstalled itunes, removed ALL 3rd party burning software (even those that were present when itunes was working), amended registry settngs as detailed in Apple Support pages - this didnt work so returned them to original settings. Downloaded new updated Gear drivers etc still nothing. Does anyone have any other possible solutions? Am running an Acer laptop with Windows 7 and now iTunes 11.1.1.11.
Diagnostics run from iTunes says CD drive is working and can read the tracks etc but simply can not import anything. If it runs through one track it takes about 5-10 minutes per 4 minue track, then when you try and play it back it has only saved about 4 seconds worth of crackle. Also can not play the CDs through WMP either or VLC or anything else for that matter.
At wits end now, only option seems to bring forawrd the purchase of replacement laptop but dont want to have same issue in future.
Need iTunes as have iPods, 2 x iPhones, iPad and Apple TV in family so dont want to jump ship...

I'd start with the following document, with one modification. At step 12 after typing GEARAspiWDM press the Enter/Return key once prior to clicking OK. (Pressing Return adds a carriage return in the field and is important.)

  • Settings for monitor using thunderbolt to vga cable

Have an HDTV  Bought a cable for thunderbolt port on macbook pro to vga. Hooked it into vga port on tv, and got backgound screen saver, but no icons or menus on tv. What settings do I need to change?

None. Just drag windows off one edge or another of your built-in screen to move them onto the TV set.
The TV is in Extended Desktop mode, meaning it serves as an extension of your built-in screen's workspace. In that mode, the TV and the built-in display can each operate at its full native resolution and you can have different stuff on each of them. In the alternative mode, Mirrored, the TV will be limited to the maximum resolution of the built-in display, which is lower than the TV's unless you have a 17" MBP, and both screens will always display exactly the same stuff. Because the TV will have to operate at less than its full resolution in Mirrored mode, it will always be blurry in that mode.

  • Best power plan settings for Helix (use hibernation?)

Hi, I noticed that the default power plans on my Helix all have hibernate set to off. I read somewhere (Pogue, maybe?) that Windows 8 is smart about power management and if you put your PC to sleep after a while it will go into a "deeper" sleep (which I'm assuming is hibernation). If I just put my Helix to sleep without plugging it in when I go to bed, when I get up in the morning it's lost about 10% of its combined battery (tablet + keyboard); that seems a lot to me for something that's "asleep". Do I need to turn on hibernation and set up a plan to use it after a certain amount of time sleeping? I've heard that might not be a good idea with SSD drives.
    Thanks for any advice!

Do you place your backups on external disks? Are your external disks formatted HFS+?
Can HFS+ Disk image be Drag dropped into a HFS+ formatted external disk in order to copy them? or is the process blocked like what happens to large Disk images in FAT 32?
I'm trying to lock on to the right format to apply to everything. My steps will be:
Make the image: So far a sparse image in HFS+ format, 400 GB, No partition map.
Drag sensitive work to Disk image. Once transfer in complete delete originals.
Format an external disk into the journaled HFS+ format. Drag drop Secure disk image to back it up.
Do you see any problems with this process? Anything i'm missing?

  • Private IP Addressing---? Manual Settings

Our Cbeyond service gives info that we have Private IP Addressing for Network Config. Public IP Addressing is not provided.
Does that mean that I can't use Automatic but must do Manual Settings for Internet Accesss?

Okay I know you are going to ask how.
When you visit the above website actually when you visit any website, it needs to know your external IP address in order to deliver the information from that website to your browser.
What the browser wants to do is send a command to the Web server on www.apple.com that looks like this:
    GET /index.html HTTP/1.0
Here's how that happens. The command is made into a packet, a block of bits like a telegram that is wrapped with three important things; the source address (the IP address of your machine), the destination address (17.254.0.91 ), and a service number or port number (80, in this case) that indicates that it's a World Wide Web request.
Your machine then ships the packet down the wire (your connection to your ISP, or local network) until it gets to a specialized machine called a router. The router has a map of the Internet in its memory — not always a complete one, but one that completely describes your network neighborhood and knows how to get to the routers for other neighborhoods on the Internet.
Your packet may pass through several routers on the way to its destination. Routers are smart. They watch how long it takes for other routers to acknowledge having received a packet. They also use that information to direct traffic over fast links. They use it to notice when another router (or a cable) have dropped off the network, and compensate if possible by finding another route.
Once your packet gets to its destination machine, that machine uses the service number to feed the packet to the web server. The web server can tell where to reply to by looking at the command packet's source IP address.
This is your external IP address in other words the website needs to know where to send the webpage information back to.
When the web server returns this document, it will be broken up into a number of packets. The size of the packets will vary according to the transmission media in the network and the type of service.
So why doesn't it supply your internal address, well this is because your router uses NAT and it knows what client on the internal network asked for the information and it is the router (with the external IP address) which asks and therefore when it receives it back, it then forwards it to the client.
As the router asked for the info, it is the router's address which is reported (the external address) and not the internal address.
What this means is that everything you ever ask for on the internet is recorded by the websites you visit.
    iFelix
