Manual Slideshow navigation question

Hello illustrious experts! I couldn't find this addressed so her goes..
When add a slideshow, and set it to manual advance, & then when it's burned and played on a DVD player the navigation works fine. But if you play it on a computer you would automatically think that the advance-to-next-slide arrow buttons would activate via the mouse but they don't.
You have to use the DVD player software navigation buttons. My client is ******** that his clients keep complaining that the DVD doesn't work, because most people assume that, like the chapter or movie select navigation the mouse will work on these arrows..
Any ideas anyone? Am I doing something wrong? Is this a bug?
Pete

This probably too late to help, but for the record:
In the manual advance slideshow the arrow buttons are only images showing which direction you can go. Actual navigation for both TV and computer is by the controller left-right arrows.
I'm in the process of making an instructional slideshow, and I will put a note on the lead iDVD slide saying that navigation can only be done with the player controller buttons. Screen arrows are indicators of your direction options.

  • Manual slideshow navigation problems

I have a project with three slide shows of PSD images. The slide shows all have the same settings in that they are set for manual navigation and I have the navigation buttons shown.
In preview everything works but once burnt as a DVD none of these work and the problem is not entirely consistent.
    Slide show one
When selected from the main menu the first slide is shown. Pressing the arrows does nothing nor does pressing enter. Slides can only be navigated by pressing the skip chapter buttons.
    Slide show two and three
Arrow buttons do nothing but the enter button skips forward to the next slide. Despite the forward and reverse navigation buttons showing you can only go forwards.

I've hd the same problem since upgrading from 3 to 5. Sometimes only the first slide will show while the next show is okay... I also found trying to navigate backwards won't work with iDVD5. I had to use iPhoto to do what I needed & export the slides as a movie. A real pain, but it did work. I hope they fix this. Of all things, a slide show should be a piece of cake. But try the iPhoto route in you're in a bind.

  • Slideshow navigation buttons not working.

Having had the slideshow navigation buttons that exist below my photos (back, pause, forward) working fine for some reason they are now coming up as question marks in Safari and error boxes in Firefox and Explorer. I have not made any changes to my site but have republished since discovering the problem but it still remains.
I have looked for the cause in iWeb but have no idea what will remedy this.
    Any help much appreciated.

Caused by the recent update from .Mac to MobileMe and out of our hands for fixes.
The trouble is caused by some of the links create by iWeb that point to files found on Apple servers (not your iDisk). They are usually created inside the javascript files (.js) and use incorrect URL's that previously worked when linked at .Mac but now fail at MobileMe.
Since it is a javascript file a Web browser status bar (bottom of the window) shows a javascript:void URL but a click on the link in our iWeb (and Homepage) pages is not finding the correct Apple server files (they are not part of your iDisk and are hosted on Apple servers).
Odd thing is that some of these URL's do work and others fail. Some do not show the mouse over change (to the pointed finger icon) but clicking in the space where they should appear triggers the javascript.
Someone at Apple will be working late into the night to "fix" what they broke.

  • How to create Manual Slideshow Button

Hi, I'm trying to have a manual slideshow
controlled by a single simple arrow button
to either advance or go back
I've already converted my slideshow to track
and on the first track/chapter marker I've selected
    Button Highlight Marker
How do I now create a button that lets the user
    browse all 60 slides manually?
    thanks

Sorry this reply isn't about creating mannual slideshow button, but it might help solving what you want. You said you want to "lets the user
    browse all 60 slides manually".
What I did with my slideshow:
    1. Drag all the photos in the slideshow
    2. Check all the boxes "PAUSE" (this way the photo will stay still until the user press "next" of "previous" button in the the remote/ dvd player controller button)
    3. Duplicate the last photo (by dragging from the DVDSP browser)and put it after it's clone.
    4. DON'T check the box "Pause" for this duplicate
    5. Set the duration for this duplicate to 15 frames (00:00:00:15)
Set the slideshow to "jump to xxx menu" when finish.
Now, what happen is, when the slideshow starts, the user will see the first slide freeze, and they will manually go back or forth from the player control (not the button on the dvd menu). When it come to the last slideshow, and they hit "next" it will transist to it's clone (that you duplicated), this clone is set to automatically transist after 15 frames and jump to XXX.
To make the users more aware of the "possibility of going back and forth", or simply to tell the user what the next/ previous slide is, you can create dummy "button" (I just do it with arrow symbol or text "Next" and "Previous") in the appropriate position on the slide. This "button" is only to tell the user there is a next and previous, it doesn't interact. But what it does is making the user press "next" and "back" in the controller.
    I hope this help.

  • Manual slideshow problems

One thing I often need to do is show a bunch of my photos as a slideshow. I like to do that in manual mode, so i can choose when to go forward or back. On my new dual-core 2GHz G5, the manual slideshow feature works terribly. When I hit the forward arrow, there can be a long delay, and then a small version (bigger than a thumbnail) appears, and after another 5-10 seconds it finally expands to full size. If I go back to the previous image, it goes through that 10-20 second delay again, even though the image was just displayed a moment before. Automated slideshows work better. There's still a pretty long delay between photos (even if I set the time very short), but at least it doesn't change until the full-screen version is ready to display.
There is a setting to "use proxy images" for faster speed, but the resulting images can be pretty terrible. They looked like the original images without any of my post-processing (no sharpening, etc.)
Normally I'd just open the files in a different program, such as iView Media, and have a slideshow that moved quickly between images, without ever displaying shrunken versions. But if I use Aperture as my primary tool, this will be problematic because I won't have easy access to the images. Would I have to output all the images as jpegs just to show a slideshow? That seems like a big drawback and waste of disk space. Has anyone encountered the same problem or have suggestions for showing slideshows when using Aperture as the primary photo organizer?

  • Error messages and cancel navigation - questions about concept

    Hello experts,
I have a very simple Web Dynpro component:
    - First view has an input field that is linked to a date field in the context and a button to navigate to the second view
    - Second view has a button to navigate back to the first view
    - There are no individual field validations implemented
If I now enter a date in a wrong format and press the button, the program navigates to the second view and displays an error message in the Message Area (comes from the WD4A framework). And in this second view the navigation is cancelled and I can't get back to the first view to correct the date.
Is this the correct behaviour? This does not make any sense to me. I would have expected that the navigation is cancelled in the first view so that it is not possible to leave the screen with the faulty data.
Referring to the book "Web Dynpro for ABAP" by Ulli Hoffman the validation of type definitions is the very first step in the phase model of the request/response cycle. But it seems as if navigation comes first and validation of type definitions comes second.
Is there a way to start the standard field validation earlier (for example in the wddobeforeaction method) so that navigation is stopped in the first view until the user enters a correct date?
    Thanks, Karsten

  • Table of Contents navigation question in Captivate 5.5

Hi - I'm a fairly new user of Captivate (5.5.), and hope that someone can answer this question. I'm trying to set up a table of contents with navigation that will not let users go to slides that they have not yet viewed, but still enable users who have left and re-entered a course go back to any previous slide that they've viewed. Here are some details:
    * I'm publishing the course using the SCORM 2004 setting, and testing it in SCORM Cloud and our LMS (Cornerstone)
    * The table of contents navigation is set only to "Navigate visited slides only."
    * After reading as many of the related posts as I could find on this forum, I've been able to get bookmarking to work - that is, the course will take the user back to where he or she left off. And by using the InfoSemantics TicTOC widget, when a user returns to the course, all previously viewed slides are checked off in the table of contents.
    * However, whatever I've tried, a user who leaves and goes back into a course can only navigate back to the first slide, not to any of the other slides he or she already viewed. I'd like for our users to be able to go back to any previous slide they viewed (for example, to review the section just before the one where they left off, or to review any part of the course for reference after completing it).
Is there a combination of settings, or a widget somewhere, that will let you both limit forward navigation to visited slides only, while still allowing users to go back to any previously viewed slide after exiting and re-entering a course? And this would need to work in an LMS.
Thanks for any advice you can give!

I did have the self-paced learning option checked, so I unchecked it. I did not have "user must past quiz" as required (it's set as optional). I tried adding an interactive button to the first slide and giving it a score. But after re-publishing, I still can only go back to the first slide (not any previously viewed slide) if I stop and re-enter the course. Here are the settings:
    Quiz Reporting:
    Manifest:
    LMS Customization:
    Quiz Settings:
    Quiz Pass/Fail:
Settings for the interactive object on the first slide:
Settings for the "quiz" on the last slide:
Thanks so much for helping me with this.

  • Slideshow navigation arrows flash up on DVD playback

I burned a slideshow using iDVD version 6.0.4.
I selected Fit to Audio for the Slide Duration. In Settings, I de-selected Display Navigation Arrows (I removed the check mark from the box next to Display Navigation Arrows.) I would expect that when I burn the DVD and view it on my DVD player, the navigation arrows would not appear. However, the navigation arrows flash on the screen just before each transition. They don't stay on the screen but they are very distracting when they flash with every slide.
When I preview the slideshow in iDVD I don't see the navigation arrows.
Is there a way to fix this?

I had a simialr issue today as well which you may wish to read about as to how I resolved (or worked around) this issue.

  • Nokia 6220 - GPS,Maps,Navigation Question

This may be a silly question but I'm a little confused over this
I am considering buying a 6220 (SIM free), mainly because it's an 'upgraded' version to my existing 6300.
The idea is instead of having a SAT NAV (for the occasional trips to places I've never been before) & a mobile phone & a MP3 player etc - I get an all-in-one in a small package
Now to the question - What is the difference between 'Nokia Maps' and 'Navigation' ?.
Apparently 'Nokia Maps' is free but 'Navigation' isn't
Am I right in assuming that 'Nokia Maps' only shows you where you are & Where you want to go BUT doesn't give constant updates as you drive/walk between the 2 - a bit like if you have a map & ask a passerby to shows you where you are & where you want to go on the map - but doesn't tell you how to get there (you have to figure it out yourself)
BUT 'Navigation' is where you can have it in the car & it tells you the directions ('take next left'/'3rd right at next roundabout' etc) each step of the way i.e. Just like a Car 'SAT-NAV' equivalent
I don't like the idea of paying for a 'satnav/phone/media player' combi-device then paying EXTRA so that you can use it as a SAT-NAV, especially if you only going to use it maybe once or twice in a year.

I think I have worked out what is going on here...
I hard reset my N95, installed the maps fresh (which took a very long time, but that is a different subject, so I won't get going on that)
I then checked if I could do full 7 digit postcode search while at home and still no, with "Network Use" set to "Never"
However, I have now come into the office, defined the wlan acess point (mine is broken at home) and set "Network Use" to "when needed" and I can do full 7 digit postcode search. If I then change that setting to "never" it reversts back to truncating the postcode.
I would appreciate if other N95 owners could confirm that this happens on their N95 too, and if so, it looks like maps is pulling additional info from somewhere to enchance the downloaded map.
You seem to be right. I cleared all the maps, then downloaded the maps for England using maploader and tested it. With network connection you can do full postcode search, but as soon as the internet connection is lost or turned off the system reverts back to truncating the postcode.
If you use the route planner while you have the network connection you can use the full postcode to set the destination point while having the GPS position as your starting point and the destination point gets stored as your destination.

  • N97 - Maps/Navigation Question (probably a rather ...

I have managed to update my actual maps. So that's good. My compass seems to work, so that is also good.
Before the Maps update I managed to save my home address and set it as a Favourite. Since the update of Maps (the app) and the actual maps themselves, I can't seem to save another Favourite location – such as my work address.
So, this may be a very dumb question, but I'm allowed a few surely? LOL Phones I'm OK with, computers are my livelihood – but GPS is a whole new confusing world to me. OK – I get the basic concept – my device communicates with a silver dish in the sky and decides where I am, I tell it where I want to go, it determines where that is and charts a route for me and guides me on my way (I hope – if the Telstra ad on TV here is any indication, that could be problematic).
How do I save a darn new address and make it a Favourite – I can't even save an address now, yet clearly I did before, because my home address is still there.
Also, I gather I have to subscribe to this thing if I actually want driving instructions etc. For $79.99 a year, it seems rather expensive – what am I actually getting for that $79 when the use of the satellite seems to be charged on my phone bill.
    I'm so confused.
Can someone please give me a kindergarten intro to GPS/Maps/what am I paying for/anything else I need to know?  How to save an address would be a good start!  Or is the answer to that, that my trial period has run out?

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Dear Advanced Sage.
There are 4 components to a "SatNav" system.
1 - A GPS device, which triangulates your position using satellites in space. The same principle that land surveyors use to locate a point by measuring its distance from (at least) 2 other points.Your location is identified as a pair of co-ordinates on the world mapping convention system, latitude and longitude.
    2 - A digitised map (or twelve).
3 - Some software which  locates the identified co-ordinates on the digitised map, and the co-ordinates of any other "known"location. The map includes data about the various roads between the 2 identified locations, and determines the permutations of ways to get from A to B. According to your chosen priorities (faster route, shorter route, no toll roads, no ferries, etc) the software will inform you of the "best" route. It will normally do this by showing you this route, possibly step by step, on the screen of your SatNav.
The cost of these 3 elements  is paid for (once and for all) in the purchase of the phone.
To make the work of the number 1 component easier, that is, the task of the GPS to locate you in the first place, the GPS designers came up with AGPS - "Assisted" GPS. The assistance comes from the phones natural ability know where it is to a crude, but useful, extent by knowing the location of its "cell". This knowledge helps the GPS to calculate its position more quickly, by narrowing down its area of search. For the GPS to acquire this information, it needs to use the phones data connection to send and receive a small chunk of data about the cell, which gives the initial rough position to the GPS.
If you select this AGPS option in your "Positioning" settings, you have to pay for the data connection, or it will come from your data allowance. It's not a lot, and speeds up the operation of the GPS, but it's not necessary for the operation of the GPS.
4 - If, in addition to the visual directions from A to B, as shown on your screen, you want the SatNav to give you directions as you travel, this is known as "Navigation". It's like having a Navigator (as in rallying) sitting in the passenger seat, giving you directions as you go.
Nokia charge a license fee for this "Navigation". From what I've seen recently, the current licenses on offer cover periods up to 1 year. I bought my Navigation license for my old N95, and I was then able to buy a 3 year license, which worked out cheaper per year. I've now tranferred my license from my old N95 to my new N97.
Actually, I didn't have to do anything to "transfer" the license. You can set the license, on the Nokia server, to be linked to either your sim card, or your phone. If you link it to your phone, it will work with any sim card in the phone. If you link it to the sim card, your license will work. no matter what (nokia SatNav) phone you put your sim card in.
    That's about it really.
To sum up, the GPS, software, and maps are all included in the price of the phone, including the software and maps updates. If you choose AGPS you will have to pay for the small data charges from your data allowance. (There's no point in buying this phone without an "unlimited" data allowance - personal opinion). For "Navigation", turn-by-turn direction, you will have to pay for a license.
For what it's worth. I still have my old N95. I felt sorry for it, it's still a great phone, because it was left with no "Navigation" license, although I still had a perfectly working GPS. So I treated it to a copy of Garmin Mobile XT software. This installed perfectly on the N95, and, unlike the Nokia "Navigation" license, you only pay once. There's no term license. Once you've bought it, it's yours. It cost £50 GBP, and is accurate and easier to use than Nokia Maps. It wouldn't work on my N97, though, so I guess it is only for Symbian 3 devices, not Symbian 5. I bought a cheap "Pay and Go" sim card, to enable the Garmin software to use AGPS. The first time I used it thoug, it worked perfectly, and was quick to find my location, even without the AGPS assistance. A lovely bit of software.
    Phew ...

  • TV Remote Navigation Question

    Hi,
I've made a DVD and everything seems to be working fine except that I can't use the TV's DVD Player's remote to navigate to all of the scenes.
I made a movie and have 12 scenes. Scenes 1-6 show on one "page," and arrows point to the second page which contains scenes 7 through 12. I can click on the arrows with the mouse on the computer, but I can't figure out how to use the remote to alternate back and forth between the page that has scenes 1-6 and the page that has scenes 7-12. I am using the theme called "Center Stage."
    Any help appreciated.
    Patrick

I think I'd lose my mind long before this project was ever finished if I used the powerbook.
I couldn't agree more. But here's the thing... Unless you know exactly what you are doing within DVDSP, then I'm not one to recommend doing so at a moments notice, nor in terms of a crash course. There is no such thing when it comes to apple's FCS 2.
It takes weeks (if not months) to learn to use FCP, and DVDSP effectively. Nevertheless, if this is the approach you wish to take then post this same question to Apple's Dvdsp forum also so they can confirm the following recommendations.
I'm at a loss to understand why DVDSP3 won't also work on your G5. It should also work on the G4, even though laptops / portables are not my personal choice when working within this particular app.
In terms of additional real estate /work area for DVDSP3, I suggest you use an external widescreen or LCD Monitor .... perhaps the one you have currently connected to your G5 assuming it's a power mac and not an iMac. If it is an iMac and you prefer to use the laptop instead then you'd do well to also have at least one other external fw HD, more SDRam (if it's not currently maxed out), and an external WS /LCD.
To add sub menus look at the Help Menu within iDvd'08 and I quote:
    "Creating additional DVD menus
A menu can only hold 12 buttons, so if your DVD requires more than 12 buttons, you can create submenus to hold them.
You can use submenus to organize your DVD into sections. For example, if you want viewers to be able to view scenes, extras, additional movies, or slideshows, you can create submenus to hold buttons that link to them.
    To add a submenu:
Click the Add button (shown above) and choose Add Submenu from the pop-up menu.
Click the placeholder text for the new button and type a label for the button.
Double-click the new button to open the new menu.
A Back button that returns to the previous menu is added automatically. You can edit this menu just as you can any other menu."
Lastly, I'd also need to know what kind of graphics card you currently have in the G4 since that too will be a deciding factor in which mac system is a better choice.

  • Manual Font Management Questions

Hi. First, thanks in advance for any advice. I appreciate it.
I've recently taken up comic book lettering and as such, have acquired a massive amount of fonts. I've tried a couple of the management software (Suitcase Fusion and FontExplorer X) and haven't been able to work with them the way I'd hoped. Furthermore, they all (including the native FontBook) sandbag my system and grind it to a crawl.
So, even though it's a giant pain and extremely tedious, I think I'll manually edit and remove unnecessary fonts to pare things down and organize them in apps like Adobe CS5. And group them. My questions are 1) can you have folders inside the font library folder the system draws from (for organization purposes)? I ask because there are none in there. 2) I've been working (I've already started with a small folder elsewhere) with a copy of the font directories. When I finish, would I just delete everything, then copy my altered version (including some renamings) into place (w/ or w/o folders -- tbd)? Or is there a proper way to remove and replace fonts than just moving to trash?
Thanks again! I (virtually) bow to your vast knowledge. (Pandering works around here, right?)
    FiveByFive

Uh...  Kappy, I've got every font on my machine (except for /System/Library/Fonts fonts) in subdirectories inside the assorted Fonts/ directories.  This is a subset of FontFolio11 that we use for editorial:

  • Slideshow navigation buttons

I've created Photoshop buttons with three layers, 1 is normal 2, is mouseover and 3 in mousedown.
I've inserted a blank slideshow and imported both buttons which sit side by side.
I've copied each button then replaced the navigation < and > text in the default slideshow. This works when I preview the page in the browser. When I publish the site to BC the right-hand buton doesn't perform properly and the mousedown and mouseover states swap. Also the navigation buttons don't align with the top of the slideshow after publishing as they do when previewed.
I previously had a lot of problems trying to achieve this when pasting the Photoshop button into place the program terminated (crashed) with an error message, something to do with 'an object with null'. I deleted the page and started again, now I can't get the program to crash to get the exact message.
The page where the problem occurs is:
    http://rtc-training.businesscatalyst.com/security-manager.html

Thought I'd try removing one of the states (layers) in the Photoshop file then Published to BC. Didn't like the result so decided to retrieve the buttons with 3 layers from my backup disc. Replaced the files on my Mac, opened Muse and automatically updated the linked items. Published again and now everything is working as it should. Puzzled but happy.

  • Adobe Muse CC - Slideshow Fading Question

Hi everyone! I'm pretty new to Adobe Muse
So I had this questions, I noticed that when you put a slideshow and you check on "Fade" in the Transition box, when the image is fading it always fades to white and then goes to the next image
Is it possible to have it "Fade To Black"? ( witch is also a quite awesome song by the way) or anyway, make the fading transition between images not white?

During the Fading transition, it is just the opacity of the images that are changing (reducing for one and increasing for the other) and there is no White content coming in during the transition here. You can check that by slowing down the Transition speed of the Slideshow to a few seconds. You cannot at the moment add any intermediate color between the image transition in a Muse Slideshow. You may want to add this as a feature request in the Ideas section of this form at http://forums.adobe.com/community/muse/ideas.

  • KDE4 + wallpaper slideshow: few questions about performance / tuning.

    Hello,
I am using KDE 4.4 from pacman and set my desktop activity to slideshow. I would like to customize few things and thus - I have few questions:
    1) Is it possible to change / disable transition effect when changing wallpapers? All my desktop is choppy and not responsive while the wallpaper changes and I am wondering if there is a way to repair this? (all images used as walls are at max 3MB big, usually something about 1MB. I have 7200 RPM disk, 2GB of ram and rather fast graphics card with newest Nvidia drivers, so I don't know what is the cause of slowdown...)
    2) How can I programatically progress wallpaper to next image (not with the right click / Next Wallpaper image)?
    3) Is there a way to disable the wallpaper change while there is a fullscreen application running? I am asking this, because when I watch HD movies and the wall changes, movie playback is really choppy... (I think that answer to the first question will also help me in this case).
I would be glad for any sugestions / interest in helping me;)
    Best regards,
    Mike.

    Hello
1/ There's no way I know to remove the transition. Using the "raster" graphics engine helps a lot on performance : kill plasma-desktop and launch  `plasma-desktop -graphicssystem raster`
    2/ There's a plasma applet for this :

Maybe you can adapt it to your needs / find out how it works.
