Manual syncing podcast-missing podcast

I'm manually syncing a podcast by dragging the podcast down onto the ipod device. In the status window it says syncing the file and appears to copy the file. But when I look at the podcasts on the ipod the podcast isn't there. Dragging the podcast a second time does nothing as itunes thinks the file is already there.
Where has the podcast gone? How can I find and play it?
Thanks
Michael

Do you have the problem when changing your iPod from "sync" to "manual"? I had to reformat my iPod to get it to accept certain podcasts once I turned off syncing. It also seems that when I turned off syncing, the iPod didn't "un-sync" (i.e. the amount of audio space used on the iPod stayed the same) but I can no longer access the podcasts. Mine doesn't act like it's copying, however. It gives me the green plus sign when I drag it, but then nothing happens. So basically it's as if the podcasts are still on my iPod, I just can't access them since I turned off syncing. Now I'll have to either turn syncing back on or reformat again and start over. (Which I may do to test my theory that the podcasts don't get removed, I just can't access them!)

  • Manually sync podcasts - problems with Itunes

When attempting to manually sync podcasts to my Ipod, I can only manually click every other episode.  Just started when I downloaded the update to Itunes.

Right click on the iPod icon in the Source list and choose Sync from the menu that appears. You should also check when it's connected that the manual mode has not been enabled and auto switched off somehow.

  • Can not manually sync podcasts

I prefer to manually sync everything on my 3G iPod (music, podcasts, etc).
Since updating to iTunes 7, it appears I can not manually copy podcasts to my iPod. It only appears to load podcasts if I choose the Sync option in iTunes.
Not exactly my idea on manually managing my library.

I find the same to be true for me, and it's really frustrating. I used to be able to sync by checking the little boxes next to the episodes I wanted, choose to only update those selected, played or unplayed, and update worked fine. Now that choice is gone, replaced by "last 10" or last 10 unplayed" etc. There is a knowledge base document:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iTunesMac/7.0/en/900.html
    that states:
"To load podcasts onto your iPod manually, deselect Sync and drag podcasts or podcast episodes from your Podcasts playlist to the iPod icon in the iTunes window (below Devices). "
This functionality doesn't function in 7.0. Maybe in 7.0.1????? How soon???????
    OK! OK! TIME OUT!
Last night I tried the dragging action, but with no apparent results. But somehow, 419 "songs" appeared on my iPod from nowhere, and I couldn't seem to determine where they were. duh! So now, I just tried going into the song list by Genre to podcast, and, lo and behold, there are all the missing podcasts I dragged there! but they don't show up in tyhe normal podcast area. I need to go home from work, reconnect the iPod to the Mac, and determine where they are. I'll update here when I do find out!!!!!

  • Removing Manually Synced Podcasts?

I have a dozen or so podcasts that I manually synced to my iPod by dragging them into a playlist I created call "Spoken".
Now I would like to delete some of them. I can delete them from the playlist, but that doesn't seem to get rid of them - the capacity of my iPod does not increase. I have searched from them in the Music Library, but none of them appears. There is no Podcast playlist, because I manually synced them.
How do I permanently get rid of them?
    Thanks

After more testing I noticed that only some of my podcast episodes had to be removed manually. So what I wrote seemes to be an issue, and not the norm. The second prompt to move files to the trash does usually appear.

  • Why can't I easily manually sync podcasts?

Just switched from Dell/Windows to a Mini Mac.  Used to be able to easily drag podcasts from my PC to my Iphone.  Now when I do so, many podcasts alrady on my phone are erased.  Why is a Apple to Apple transactio harder than an Iphone to Dell transaction??

Great questions, absolutely zero issues syncing with cable.
The devices fail to synce a lot whether they are plugged into a external power supply or when they are not.
If I initiate the synce from the devices, same exact thing occurs. It may synce if I'm lucky or it mail disappear from under devices which fails to synce. I've never calculated it but it's like a 50/50 chance.

  • Way to get Podcasts app to take manually added podcasts without syncing?

    Hi guys,
I listen to a lot of podcasts and I've been having all sorts of problems using the Podcasts app, it's a bit of a mess.
I don't want to even try to continue having it automatically sync with my library, this seems to create problems. I put some episodes on there, they seem to be there one day then the next day they're in the list but suddenly need to be streamed even though I added them and have not told the app to delete them.
Other times, even though I only added, say, 10 out of 100 podcasts for one show, I go into the list and all 100 show up with the little cloud symbol next to the 90 I didn't want. Then I have to go scrolling through to pick out the ones I actually intended to listen to. Is there somewhere to turn off showing un-downloaded episodes?
Wanting to re-listen to old episodes is a nightmare. I add them, they disappear everytime I sync the phone overall, even though I repeatedly uncheck 'sync podcasts'. Also, if I uncheck 'sync podcasts' after adding some and then sync - it clears every podcast off the phone, as if that's what I wanted.
Even after I uncheck 'sync podcasts', manually adding podcasts automatically causes podcast syncing to turn on. Why would Apple assume that's what I want if I'm manually adding podcasts. Why can't I just manually add the ones I want? That seems to be the only possible solution to all the syncing nightmares above and yet iTunes/the app won't allow it to happen.
Am I doing something horribly wrong or is this just a terrible app? I have looked into alternatives but none of them will sync with my itunes library. And don't even get me started on how iTunes itself handles podcasts now!

My iPod is a 3d gen nano so doesn't have independent downloading capabilities.

  • Syncing podcasts while manually managing music

I want to manually manage music on this PC while syncing podcasts, but whenever I sync podcasts it disables "Manually manage music and videos" and whenever I enable it again it makes podcasts editable on the iPod.
It's nice that I can listen to podcasts from the iPod while it's plugged in since it marks it as watched on the iPod, but if I sync it first, I can't listen to music from it while it's plugged in until I enable "Manually manage music and video".
It seems to make sense that music and video shouldn't overlap podcasts since podcasts aren't music and I can store video outside of podcasts. I know there's video podcasts but right now the whole setup is more difficult to use then it should be.
Is there any way to get it to do what I want?

I just discovered how to do this
I have to click into the iPod and then the Podcasts tab and then sync from there... woop-dee-doo!

  • My iPhone 4 won't sync podcasts manually.

Ever since I got iTunes 10 I have been having problems with podcasts.
My iPhone 4 will not allow podcasts to be manually added. It will only allow podcasts to be synced by playlists. This is a pain because podcasts constantly get new episodes and I shouldn't have to create a specific playlist EVERYDAY. By the way the "manaully add songs and videos" button is CHECKED and has always been checked. The only time I'm able to manually add podcasts is when the iphone syncs the podcast playlist. And sometimes this doesn't work.
    Please help.

Thanks for the Downcast tip Stephen.  I had exactly the same problem as others and after reading your post decided to ditch iTunes to manage my iPhone podcasts. I really dont know why they decided that podcasts I had d/l direct to the phone need to go up to the computer with no preference to stop it. Thats crazy since I dont sit at home and listent to podcasts.
Long ago it was easy to sync stuff by dragging manually whatever you wanted onto the phone or iPod but Apple has now made this impossible.  Sync is a major aggravation now.  6 years ago I had a Windows 6 mobile phone (horrible in most respects) but syncing of address book, music, podcasts, calendar was automatic by bluetooth and involved no efffort at all once set up.  I am still waiting for Apple to wake up!

  • Sync Podcasts in ipod 40gb

    Hi everyone...
I have a 40gb ipod and able to transfer my music and photo to my ipod with no problem. BUT sync podcasts do not work.
i have tried different options in ITUNES 7.2 such as:
    All, all new ....,

i can not drag and drop to my ipod too.
    There is something missing...???!!
i was wondering any one has an idea??

    "podcasts (under library)"
This may be your problem. You can play podcasts in your library as manual files that you drag and drop.
But they will only automatically update if you select the podcast in the itunes store and subscribe there.
You set the options and download frequency in the Podcasts icon below TV shows.

  • Manually updating podcasts in 7

I may be missing something but I can't find how to manually update podcasts in 7.

This doesn't work for me. I manually add podcasts (i hate syncing) but they do not appear under the "music" or the "podcasts" icon. They used to appear, along with music, under my ipod icon in itunes6. This served as the ipod's library and i could manage everything from there.
If I manually add podcast to my ipod icon (I can't to the podcast or music icon) it disappears into the ether. The podcast is transfered to my ipod but I can't find it through itunes. If I add it to say a "podcast" playlist i can access it there, but deleting it from the playlist does not delete it from the library.
I am at a loss as to how to find these files with itunes7 as I usually do delete them after listening to them. Unless I go back to itunes6 i'm going to end up with a lot of garbage on my ipod i can't easily delete.
If anyone has a clue to this I'd love to hear it.

  • Older and manually-added podcasts not in iTunes 7 Podcasts

I recently upgraded to iTunes 7. For some of the older podcasts and ones that I have downloaded manually, they don't appear under the Podcasts icon in either the iTunes:Library:Podcasts or iTunes:Devices:<my iPod>:Podcasts.
All these new and old podcasts have the Podcast genre label.
However, if I create a Podcasts Smart Playlist with the genre is Podcast, I can see them all. However, I notice that in the Browser, the newer podcasts show up in the Artist mind-window as "Podcasts", while the older ones have their actual Artist listed.
What is going on here? It's really inconsistent, and I miss some of my podcasts going through the Podcast label on the top level of the iPod.
    iPod 20GB, 4G   Windows XP

I use the "Recently Added" smart playlist to find my "hidden" manually-sync'd podcasts. Let's me play them but I can't delete the darn things EVER! I'm afraid to try the suggestion about only syncing checked items cuz every time I change the syncing settings, everything gets deleted off my ipod.
Thank goodness I have the 60G so at least I have room -- for now -- for the old undeletable ipods. If I had a nano, I'd be really mad!
Has anyone figured out how to delete?

  • Manually Transfer Podcasts - Don't Show Up in iPod "Podcast" Area

Here's the scenario. My wife and I each have iPod Shuffles for use at the gym, etc... We each have our own computer and different iTunes libraries. For our anniversary, I bought her (us) an 80gb w/video. The thought was that we'd share both of our music libraries here along with videos/podcasts for us to use when we traveled (separately or together).
I've found that the best/easiest way for us to manage the iPod's library is to set it up for manual management. This was after doing a lot of searching forums on managing between two computers... unless that's changed, then no worries there.
My wife took a trip a couple of months ago and downloaded some individual podcasts (not subscribing) into her computer, from iTunes, and transferred them into the 80gb iPod for watching on the plane. They're in the Podcast section as expected. I'm taking a trip in a week and downloaded some additional podcasts from iTunes, and also did not subscribe to them. I did a drag and drop into the 80gb, but I couldn't find them looking through iTunes and through the iPod itself - except through the recently added files folder.
The only place I can find them is in the "Recently Added" folder, but that won't last long. So now that I've "found" the podcasts, how do I get them libraried (is that a real word?) into my Podcast section of my iPod? They do reside in the Podcast section of the iTunes program. I have version 7.2.0.35 of iTunes if that matters.
    Thanks for any help.

I don't know if this will help, but I was experiencing the same problem. Searching the discussions didn't help other than to confirm that I was not alone. So, I started poking around.
    Background
I had been manually copying podcasts to iPod. Noticed this weekend new podcasts weren't showing up under podcasts, some did show up under music, and videos weren't showing up at all.
    My Solution:
selected iPod device. Selected Podcasts. Selected sync. (wasn't syncing before). choose a couple podcasts to sync. Clicked apply. podcasts synced. wiped out all my existing podcasts but the new ones showed up. Still no videos though. Chose Movies. chose sync. Got message something like "The iPod "<my iPod>" is synced with another iTunes Library. Do you want to erase this iPod and sync with this iTunes library." I chose no (cancel), because I didn't want to wipe everything out without thinking about it.
Now Podcasts and videos show up on the iPod.
    Hope this helps.

  • How do you manually manage podcasts with the new iTunes?

Like the subject line says: How do you manually manage podcasts with the new iTunes?
With the previous version of iTunes, when I plugged in my iPod, I could select the iPod, select podcasts, and manually delete episodes. With the new iTunes, I can't select individual episodes when looking at my iPod through iTunes. Is my only option to Sync? If so, why is that my only option?
This question probably has a simple answer, and I'm just not seeing it.

    Rock,
I think I figured out a way to do what you want to do - which is the same way that I use Itunes with my Ipod. (My Itunes libary was destroyed last year so I can no longer auto synch my Ipod as I would lose thousands of songs).
Funnily enough, I discovered this new way of manually moving podcasts while trying to figure out what cpragman was trying to say (I never could - he must be smarter than me, as I couldn't get his method to work).
    1. Open up your Itunes in your regular Library view. Choose Pocasts from the left hand side (either in the sidebar if you have that enabled, or from the little "radio" icon if you don't.)
    2. Mouse to the podcast you want to place on your Ipod.
    3. Right-click it.  A long menu will pop up.
    4. Move to the "Add to Playlist" option.  As you hover, all your playlists will be visible. But at the very top will be the name of your Ipod itself (whatever you named it originally).  Choose THAT name, and voila! That podcast will now copy to your Ipod and be easily available when you disconnect.
A nice feature of this method is that you can shift-click several podcasts at once and do the same thing, and all your selected podcasts will copy over (if you're like me and update your Ipod only every few weeks).
Hope this helps - let me know if it works for you!

  • Sync podcasts with iPod touch 4gen

my iPod touch 4gen will no longer sync podcasts without the podcast app. app store says it requires iOS7 to get podcast app. iPod update says it has the latest iOS, 6.1.6. i have tried to manually update, keeps saying i have the latest. any suggestions? a workaround the still get new podcasts? thanks!

You should be able to download the app by:
Starting when iOS 7 was released, Apple now allows downloading the last compatible version of some apps (iOS 4.2.1 and later only)
App Store: Downloading Older Versions of Apps on iOS - Apple Club
App Store: Install the latest compatible version of an app
You first have to download the non-compatible version on your computer. Then when you try to purchase the version on your iPod you will be offered a compatible version if one exists.

  • Can't sync podcasts ios7.0.3 - terrible

Just got my 5S with iOS 7.0.3 and I can't sync a single podcast.
I'm using Windows 7 Pro, iTunes 11.1.1.11, Podcast App 2.0
I have a large quantity of downloaded podcasts that I've been syncing for years
with iPods, iPhones, and iPads - everything has worked perfectly until now.
I do not sync/download podcasts from within an app - I have a separate
program on my PC to download and manage them.
I do not subscribe to Podcasts via my Apple products or iTunes because my wife and I share
    our libraries.
(Meaning using an alternative app like Downcast will not work as it cannot sync existing podcasts via iTunes)
No matter what I do, as long as Podcasts are of Kind "Podcast", they won't sync.
    I've tried:
    1) Uninstalling/reinstalling the Podcast App multiple times
    2) Syncing podcasts 'Automatically' with every option - 'all', 'all unplayed', 'recent unplayed', etc, etc
    3) 'Include Episodes from Playlists'
    4) and more.
After syncing, I've noticed in iTunes, under my Device, I can see all the podcasts in either the 'Podcast' link or the various Playlists (depending on what I've tried)
However, the Podcast App on the iPhone simply will not show them - as groups, or playlists, or anything.
The most I've ever gotten is a single Podcast mislabeled and with the wrong Artwork.
If I change all my Podcasts to Kind "Music" (or 'Audiobook') then I can get them into the Music player, but then I lose all my storage organization in iTunes - the 'Podcast' Library item becomes useless.
I've been an Apple user since the Apple II so I'm no nubie.
This is the worst junk Apple has ever turned out - whoever worked on it should be fired immediately - and I mean coders, managers, directors - all of them.
All I want to do is sync Podcasts from my PC library to my BRAND NEW EXPENSIVE iPhone the same way I can with music.
Does anyone have any ideas what else to do?

    UPDATE:
I have *kind of* solved the problem.
Basically the problem is a lack of proper ID3 Tags in the old podcast files.
I've read a lot other threads and articles and this is what you can do.
    1) Download and install Mp3tag - it's a free Tag editing utility
    2) Using Mp3tag, open the podcast file or directory with the old podcasts
    3) Select 1 or more podcasts in the list and then 'Extended Tags' (right click or View -> Extended Tags)
    4) Add the following tags and values if they don't exist:
         a) tag=COMMENT ITUNPGAP  value=0
         b) tag=PODCAST  value=1
         c) tag=PODCASTURL  value=<use the actual URL i.e. http://sawbones.libsyn.com/rss>
         d) tag=PODCASTID  value=<any value as long as it's the same for all related podcasts  i.e. 'Sawbones'>
    5) Save the changes
    6) After saving all the new tags, re-add the podcasts to iTunes and everything should work properly.
The only problem is that you have to do this for every podcast downloaded from any source that is not iTunes.
More about PODCASTURL - I've found that you need the actual URL, not just any text. I found the URL by Subscribing to the podcast in iTunes, downloading one podcast, then examining it in Mp3tag and copying the URL. If you do it this way, your old podcasts will group properly with any new ones downloaded from iTunes.
If someone has more details for this process please add it to this thread!
For example, the tags PODCASTID and COMMENT ITUNPGAP may be unnecessary - I haven't taken the time to find out.
(Please don't ask me to teach you how to use Mp3tag - it's easy - read the manual)
