Manual uninstaller of previous versions of LR3

Under Windows 7, Lightroom 3.2 left a legacy folder called c:\program files\adobe\adobe photoshop lightroom 3\resource, and Lightroom 3 left a legacy folder named c:\program files\adobe\adobe photoshop lightroom 3.2\resource. Both folders are empty. However, it raises a question of whether anything else is being left on the machine.
This issue arises because Nik Software, despite an hour's work on my machine, cannot get a plug-in for HDR Efex Pro to work, and the install program is unable to install seven files that have to do with this plug-in. They are wondering if the install program is seeing past versions of the program and doesn't know where to put things.
One proposed solution is to complete remove LR3 from my system and start over with a clean install of LR3.3. Will this remove my catalogue?

Uninstalling LR will not remove the catalog. Removing everything associate with the application obviously would as this would include the catalog. All uninstallers leave loads of stuff behind in the registry (this is a problem with how windows works rather than anything to do with applications) and you can go through the registry and remove these or try a registry cleaner such as ccCleaner first. However the installer application for any plug in should be smart enough too recognise which is the active application and install itself to that. I would contact the makers of the plug in software asking that they ensure their plug in installs correctly for LR 3.3 as files will be left behind every time a update is made and they plug in designer should be aware of this and discuss the matter with Adobe rather than suggesting you start to mess with the registry or remove files that may be required by LR. If ccCleaner doesn't correct the problem.
By the way, I too have legacy files on my system and I too have a Nik plug in (not the one you mention but Silver Efex). It has successfully transferred from LR 3.0 to 3.2 to 3.3 RC to 3.3 without this problem. However it did require a reinstall of the plug in (not the application) to function in CS 5 after the upgrade from CS 4, now it is in both versions as I have not yet removed CS 4 from my machine. If Nik can get it right for one plug in, then it would seem they should be able to get it right with another. I do, however, regularly clean my registry using ccCleaner.

    No, you shouldn't need to delete previous versions. The Firefox 4 installer will automatically take care of upgrading your previous version and importing your information into the new version.

    On a few of the 40 pilot machines I also see both versions of flash 11.0.1.152 & 11.1.102.55 (I used the same process abode but used the uninstaller for flash with the /S switch)
    Please help me Adobe you're my only hope. :-)

    1)  Why is the installer for 11.6.1.629 installing an older version of shockwave 10.4.1.34? (backwards compatibility?)
    It's there (as you noted) for compatibility, and only for Windows, for files created prior to D11
    2)  Is the version of Shockwave 10.4.1.34 that the installer for 11.6.1.629 installs considered Insecure, end of life or patched? 
    The reason I ask is because the Adobe security bulletin recommends that "Users of Adobe Shockwave Player 11.6.0.626 and earlier versions upgrade to the newest version 11.6.1.629 available here: http://get.adobe.com/shockwave/.
    It is the current secure version of the backwards compatibility components. There is no risk posed by it (unless a new exploit is found)

    I experienced headache problem after updating to 10.2 version,when i follow this forum,seems so many different problems with this update issue,just want to share,may be it will be helpfull for the flash player user,why don't just uninstall 10.2 version using FP uninstaller and then from the arcieve download the previous version (10.1 in my case),install manually,restart and the problem solved,again i'm not an expert,just wanna share,hopefully can help someone.My notebook running well now ,Tq

    Close all browser windows, you only want to be looking at your Desktop.
    Disable any messenger services, as yahoo, msn, etc in the system tray(area near the clock)
    Be sure to use the Administrator Account.
    Run the Uninstaller and when finished, Reboot(restart) your computer.
    Run the Installer for IE, and when finished, Reboot.
    Then go to this test site and test your IE browser
    http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/
    You should be able to see the Flash logo animation(spinning) and version 10.2.152.26 displayed

    You can remove the olde version of Lightroom either by the bundled uninstaller or from Control Panel > Programs

  • I have had terribble experience with Firefox 4.0.1 - it hangs and crashes all the time. Is there a way a can uninstall it and go back to previous version?

    A lot of times when it crashes it gives an error when should send out the crash report - says it can't be sent, but this is the crash ID from 3 days ago - hope it will help. I also have the problem with the FlashGet extension. In previous version of Firefox it used to easily pick up the download, now it doesn't and I have to manually enter the link into FlashGet itself. I was always so happy with Firefox. Other browsers like Safari or Chrome just didn't do it for me, but now it's just impossible to work like that.

    That message appears because your phone was hacked to unlock it in order to use it with the carrier you're now using. Updating software or restoring a hacked iPhone will re-lock it to the carrier it was originally locked to. You have two choices: re-hack it, or get it officially unlocked(only the carrier it is locked to can authorize such).

  • I used to be able to ensure that a history of my browsing was not kept in previous versions through "tools", but this is apparently no longer an option in 6.0.2. How do I set browsing history to automatically delete or prevent it from being kept at all?

    Maybe I just don't know what I'm doing, but in 6.0.2, all of the history keeping options no longer appear to exist...unless there's a hidden tools/options menu that I simply can't find.
    If the only option for erasing browser history is to go into history and manually delete each line item, this version (6.0.2) is totally useless to me from a security perspective.
    If anybody knows a solution SPECIFIC TO 6.0.2, please advise. I know that it's an easy fix in previous versions.

    If it is good in the Firefox SafeMode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. <br />

  • I cannot get a pdf link to display correctly with version 4.0.1. How can I go bak to previous version? This appears to be a browser problem that does not occur for IE9.

    When I click on a link to a pdf file (in an email message) using Windows Live Mail, Firefox 4.0.1 opens it as a shortcut and treats it as a pdf app. I can read the pdf file, but cannot save or print it. This is not the case if I use IE9. There never was a problem using the previous version of Firefox. I am using Windows 7 Home Premium.

    iOS 7 allows you to have your apps update automatically. Therefore, the list of what has been updated stays so that you can see what was updated, when and what the release notes say. It has been suggested that they list has a limit, much like Recents. Currently, there is no way for the user to delete the entries manually. Just try not to look at them.

    1. Follow the steps in the "How do I do a clean install of Flash Player" FAQ, but stop at the end before installing the most recent version
    2. Install the latest Flash Player ESR release.
    The Flash Player ESR release provides a player with all known security patches applied.
    If downloading from the Flash Player archives, please note that you will be downloading a .zip file that will contain installers for all operating systems.
    Unzip the archive and navigate into the appropriate folder (you can safely ignore the folder that ends with "_debug").
    Run the appropriate installer for your operating system and browser.
    If installing for Internet Explorer, run the installer with "winax" in the file name.
    For Windows, running the executable that ends with .exe is recommended.
    When presented with the dialog that allows you to select your update method, select "Notify me to install updates".

    Hey Chris, thanks for all the keeping up with us and stuff.  I have an issue and i'm not sure if this was already discussed (if so sorry). Windows 8 IE 10 I'm getting an error tying to downgrade my customers to the beta.  The message i'm getting is

    Your Microsoft Explorer browser includes the latest version on the Adobe Flash Player built-in. Windows Update will inform you when new versions of Flash Player are available.
    I have done my research and I cannot find how to fix this issue.  I have ran the uninstaller multiple times and restarted blah blah all the goodies.  It will not let me install the beta.
    Please help..... any idea how to get beta running on hundreds of my customers machines?
    The beta work's great it seems like and I wouldn't mind installing the beta on all their machines till the final release (which seems like a few weeks away)

    King_Penguin - Thanks it worked perfectly.  I had my pdf files copied into ITunes on my PC but when I clicked on a pdf file to copy it I thought the sidebar would appear with my IPAD name and then I would drag it over.  I didn't realize that I needed to click-and start dragging it towards the left-hand side for the sidebar to appear.  It worked like a charm - THANKYOU!!!

    According to the instructions given on the Norton Community forum under "Other Norton Products/Comcast-Customers - Norton Toolbar Problem in Firefox 10", I have done everything necessary. And I do have a Norton toolbar (Safe Web and Identity Safe) when I open Firefox 10. As was mentioned in the previous posts here, you need to run manual LiveUpdate then reboot until you have version 5.2.0.13. Then reboot and run manual LiveUpdate again and reboot once more. One thing that I noticed is that Norton never told me that it had updated the patch for Firefox 10, so I didn't know. I guess if you have the toolbar when you run Firefox 10, then you have done it all.

    While Flash Player 11 seems to work for me with most things (e.g. YouTube, most news and video sites, etc),  I find that it is crashing all the time when playing browser based games that use flash.

  • "Place in" function in Bridge greyed out, after uninstalling previous version of CC.

    I recently updated to the CC 2014 version of the apps. After that I removed the previous versions of Photoshop, Indesign and Illustrator.
    Now the 'Place In" function in Bridge is greyed out. I tried restoring File associations, re-installing Bridge etc... but nothing worked. It's still unavailable.
    Is there any way I can link Bridge with the 2014 apps again so I can use the 'place in' function again?

    There are 2 startup scripts in Bridge: "Adobe Bridge CC" script & "Auto Collection Scripts CC 2014". When I click 'reveal all my startup scripts' I get an empty folder.
    I also tried resetting my preferences but that didn't help. The 'Place in...' function is still greyed out.
    I also had to manually set all the file associations with my apps because bridge always tried to open the previous versions from Photoshop CC, Illustrator CC etc...
    (in fact...If I reset the file associations, bridge defaults back to the previous versions for all apps... and then I have to change it again to the CC 2014 version)
    It's as if Bridge doesn't know I have the CC 2014 version and can't communicate with it.

    The first time I attempted to install ML was on a late 2011 MBP.  It ran for three minutes then gave me the error message: Could not install OSX due to an unexpected error.  I was using the original ML install app, not a USB or other drive.  
    After a couple of restarts wiht the same result I saw a message to the effect that the install was trying to close open apps.  I closed apps  manually a few times to no avail.  I shut down instead of restarting then booted into Safe mode (hold down the shift key when starting) and that did it.  The install went smoothly after that. 
    I since installed ML in two iMacs using a cloned copy of the install app on a USB drive.  This time I shut down the computers and booted into Safe Mode first and there were no problems. 
    I don't know if this issue is the one causing you these problems but it is a simple enough solution to try.
