Manually Adding Artworks to Songs

Hi guys, I just got some compilations dvds for which iTunes has no artwork available, so I want to scan their artworks and manually add them to each song. I intend to make a nice tiny file that isn't bigger than 100kB (I don't want to increase the size of every song by much) and yet to be as clear as possible. You know, to show a decent artwork when in Front Row.
I've got an HP Deskjet F380 (all in one). Does anyone know what's the best balance between scanner resolution and file compression to achieve my goal?
Thanks in advance.

Manual works well but if you delete a song from your computer then you lose the "orignal" so if anything happens to your iPod library you don't get it back with importing or purchasing again.

  • How can I get ITUNES to display manually added artwork for each song regardless of the album name?

I have been manually adding artwork to my songs. When I click the Show Artwork check box, it doesn't show the cover art. For example some greatest hits albums have different cover art per track. ITUNES picks one of the cover art and shows it for the entire album grouping.
Anyway around this? I want the added cover art to display per song.

The artwork of each individual track does display during playback, in the small thumbnail at the top of the iTunes window, or at the left of the MiniPlayer control (opens by clicking the thumbnail), or the larger artwork panel that is shown if you click on the Show Large Artwork control in the MiniPlayer. It should also display on any iPod or iOS Now Playing view.
The Up Next list uses the album art (usually cover of the first track) for everything from the same album, which is perhaps a shame, although in general one artwork per album makes sense.

  • Manually added artwork won't stick anymore.

I can get it added but it's not persistent. It goes away as soon as I go away from the particular album.
This used to work. I've added lots of manual artwork for the album covers. But somewhere with new releases of software it broke. I'm on the current version of Itunes but can't tell you exactly what version used to work.
I've completely uninstalled and reinstalled Itunes as recommended by support but it didn't help.
Is anyone else having problems with their manually added artwork?

Adding artwork to songs and other items
Music and video you buy from the iTunes Store comes with its own artwork. *You can add your own artwork to songs and other items in your library.*
*You can add many popular types of still-image files, including JPEG, PNG, GIF, TIFF, and Photoshop. You must convert WAV files to another format before you can add artwork.*
In list view (the leftmost View button), to display artwork for the currently selected item, choose View > Show Artwork or click this button (in the bottom left of the iTunes window):
Make sure the artwork you import into iTunes is a compatible format. If your personal movie is a WAV file, it must be converted to another format before artwork can be added.

  • ITunes manually added artwork is missing after Windows Easy Transfer from XP to Windows-7. Please help!

After a Windows Easy Transfer from a Windows XP pc to a new Windows-7 pc, all the iTunes artwork that I had previously manually added is now missing. I estimate 25-30% of my CDs needed manual intervention to add artwork. Some of these were album covers I found on the web but many are photos that I took and cropped but have not retained. I have nearly 20,000 songs. Every one had artwork on my XP machine. Now on Windows-7 it appears to be missing. I spent many patient hours to get artwork in place for all my music and don't want to loose it or have to repeat the process. Please help! Many thanks for any contributions.

  • I Suddenly Cannot Manually Add Artwork To Songs (??)

I'm running itunes 10.5.2.11 on a Toshiba NB505 Netbook running Windows 7 Starter.  Everything has been working fine.  Until last night when suddenly I am unable to manually add artwork.  I usually click and drag from amazon.com.  But I also tried copying the image and pasting it.  It looks like it's been added, but when I exit it's not there.
The last time i tried it, it actually displayed the "updating..." message for each song on the album, but again it is not displaying.  I have tried adding different artwork to different albums.  I also shut everything down and restarted the machine.  Same thing.  It just suddenly is broken.
    Any ideas?

Ok I know more.  The two discs I was adding artwork to had a small number of tracks.  One had 2 and the other had 3.  I believe this is why the artwork was not showing.
I selected the "Always Show Artwork" option, and the artwork displays fine.  But of course all the tracks that don't have artwork are now displaying the empty generic artwork placeholder.
    Is there another option ?

  • Adding Artwork Corrupts Songs

This doesn't happen every time, but it seems to happen more frequently than not:
Sometimes when I burn a CD to iTunes and add album artwork, a previously fine track will no longer play correctly. The song will be fine, then I'll add artwork, and when I play it again the song might play for a second or two, then it'll stop, and then it'll go back to the beginning. Is there a way to make this stop, or will I just need to stop adding my own artwork?
Like I said, it doesn't happen all the time. I was able to add artwork to my Beatles albums with no problem, but all of my Black Sabbath has been nothing but trouble. Even just now, I copied the album Sabotage with no problem, but then after adding artwork "Hole in the Sky" will play for a second, it'll stop briefly, and then go back to the beginning.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Yes there is a way. Just make sure under your iPod Options (right-click on your ipod in the left-hand side of itunes and then ipod options) and make sure you have selected.... "Display Album Pictures on iPod."

  • Manually adding Artwork (like from iTS)

Hi there, I'm scanning the artwork that comes from my CDs to add them to the songs. I'm noticing that when I do it, the song file size grows. Which sounds logical. At the same time I understand that what happens to the song-files when the artworks are downloaded automatically from the iTS is different (I'm not sure here, I'm just guessing): The songs don't really grow in size as the artwork doesn't really go into them. What I understand is that they are stored somewhere else and the songs just refer to them.
If this is true, well, I see an obvious advantage, the songs stay the same size and probably it's faster to play them and display their artworks.
If there's any expert around in the iTunes ways, please help me out. If the way iTS downloads and adds the artworks into the songs is better, and there is a way to replicate it, I'd love to know how. Otherwise I'll stick to my fully manual process.
    Thanks.

I artwork already is embedded in the song files, iTunes won't get artwork from the iTunes store.
You could delete all artwork and then get the ones from the iTunes Store, but this is a bit tricky. If the artist or album isn't available at the Store, no artwork is downloaded. So you end with nothing for those albums.
I would consider getting assistance from a script to save the existing artwork first.
The first one which came in mind is Save Album Art to Album Folder.
It saves the artwork from the selected tracks to the folder where the song file resides or to a chosen folder. But it saves the artwork of all tracks, not just the album.
Another, more attractive option is to save the artwork using Export Artwork to iPhoto.
This one has an option to save only one piece of artwork of an album.
After you saved the artwork, select all tracks (Command-A) and 'Get Info' (Command-I). Check the checkbox at 'Artwork' and click OK.
iTunes will remove all embedded artwork.
Select all tracks again and choose 'Get Album Artwork' from the Advanced menu. Alternatively control-click on the selection and choose 'Get Album Artwork' from the contextual menu.
After a while, iTunes will have downloaded the artwork for (hopefully) most albums. You then can add missing ones from your iPhoto library.
Which method you choose, it will take a lot of time depending on the size of your library.
Ideal would be a script that saves the artwork, deletes it from the song file, requests the Store for artwork, deletes the saved artwork if artwork is downloaded or adds the saved artwork if no artwork is downloaded.
However, such a script does not exist (yet) as far as I know.
    Some notes:
You must be using iTunes 7.0.x
You must have an iTunes Store account.
The song, artist and album names must exactly match the ones at the iTunes Store, although recent experiences showed to me that minor mismatches still will download the correct artwork.

  • Manually Adding Artwork

I used to be able to cut and paste album artwork into iTunes. Since the release of iTunes 7, I cannot do this. Can anyone help out? Is there a way to copy artwork (say out on Amazon) and paste it into iTunes anymore?
    macbook   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

I have no problem dragging artwork to the lower left hand corner in Itunes 7.0.2. Be sure to check whether that lower left hand corner box is showing "currently playing" or "selected" as that will determine where the artwork goes (so if you've got it set to "selected" and are playing track A but have track B selected the artwork will go to track B even if you intended for it to go to track A).

  • Problem with adding artwork manually in itunes

I'm having trouble manually adding artwork to several albums in itunes 10.7 on macbook pro (the 'get album artwork' facility won't pick these discs up presumably because they're too obscure).
I go to 'get info', select the relevant check box, then add a  non-read only, apparently normal jpg to the artwork box. This image then displays successfully in the artwork box, I press ok, but when I return to the albums list it won't display at all. This has been consistent problem that I haven't only experienced in this version of itunes and it's very irritating having just a few blank albums that refuse to change.
Any ideas what might be causing this. Or is there a workaround or an alternative method I can use to add artwork?

    Thanks both for the responses.
Limnos - I can't find an equivalent 'show artwork' function in the view menu in my version of itunes, and I'd rather not have step back to an older version of itunes if I can avoid it.
BUT having thought about it I think the root of the problem must be that they are all albums with .flac files that have been imported into itunes using the 'Fluke' software. I suspect this might be what's causing the problem - and I'm wondering whether that means the problems with Fluke itself. It's annoying that there isn't a quality music player on mac that handles .flac and I have to use these crappy converters.
If anyone has an idea about how to solve this please pitch in, but I suspect this goes beyond the remit of these forums.
    och well.

  • ITunes 10.5.2 will not manually import artwork

Manually adding artwork to iTunes has broken with this release apparently.  I am unable to add a 63kb image (JPEG or TIFF) to any song or selection of songs (album).  Clicking on the "Artwork" checkbox under <Get Info><Options> and either pasting or dragging and dropping the file does not work.  Also, I can no longer add artwork to an individual song, the "Artwork" tab is greyed out and not available.  There is no existing artwork for the songs or the album.
I am completely frustrated by this as I wouldl like to add artwork that is not available on line (either in iTunes or in open source).

  • Adding Artwork (More Than One Song At A Time)

I'm adding artwork to the songs that iTunes couldn't find automatically. Is there a way to add the artwork to more than one song at a time? It would be way easier if I could just add the artwork to an album all at once. I tried listing the songs in "Album List" order and dragging the .jpg into the blank artwork icon, but it didn't take.
Please tell me that there's a way to do this; it's a hassle having to add artwork one song at a time!
    Thanks,
    -Adam

At the Artwork box at lower left, click the text above the box so it shows "Selected Item".
Select all the songs for one album then drag the artwork to the artwork window or Copy/Paste it into the Artwork box.

  • HT1386 I can no longer see anything in the "Manually Added Songs" field when managing music on my iPhone4.

I can no longer see anything in the "Manually Added Songs" field when managing music on my iPhone4. why?

If you are using iTunes Match, your songs are long gone.
iTunes Match is now a streaming service, with no regards to letting you download individual files.
Otherwise, I'm sorry for wasting your time.

  • Help manually adding songs

    I am on IPhone 5 iOS 7.02
since updating to iOS7 and ITunes 11.1.1.11, I cannot seem to get songs that I have manually added (via converting audio to mp3) into my iPhone.  I can add it into my Itunes library and it plays fine, but no matter what I do, I cannot get it into my phone.  I have tried manually managing music, checking and rechecking the songs, with sync in between, syncing the entire library, syncing only checked songs (with that particular song checked) and it still shows as a dotted circle "on this phone"  Is this an issue with the update?  When I try to drag and drop, I pull the song to the right, and my iphone pops up, and even flashes when I drop the song, but it never goes into my music on my phone.  Is there a setting that I need to change? HELP!!

    I'm having the same issue!
Even if I do manage to successfully add the songs to my iphone some of them disappear off my iphone once I disconnect the phone from the computer

  • Adding Explicit Tag to Manually Added Songs

Is there anyway to add the Explicit tag to songs you manually added? I've searched on Google, and all I get is programs to download and are really confusing...

Other than finding software and figuring out how to use it, I found a different solution to weening out explicit songs.
A few people online recommended using comments. If you put the word "explicit" into the comment field of any explicit song you can create a smart playlist that excludes any song with that comment into it!
Or if you are in a bad mood, you can make a smart playlist that only contains songs with the "explicit" comment in it. :P
Anyways, the worst part about this method is taking the time to mark each song with that comment. Although, using CTRL+Clicking or SHIFT+Clicking to select multiple tracks, then hitting "Get info" to change all of their comments at once, will make it easier.
    Hope this helps!

  • ITunes not showing all my manually added songs for 4S

Ok, It was working yesterday but now for some odd reason normally all my songs show up in the manually added section when my phone is plugged in but today I noticed it's only showing a small portion of my songs and as such I can't delete songs that I want to remove as you have to go through the manually added section, not sure what's causing this really and hoping someone else has had a similar issue.
