Manually creating the oracle services inside windows services
Hi All,
After discussion we came up for the following conclusion and would like to have further discussion on the topic.
- We have node 1 windows 2003 enterprise sp2 available on one of the server which has Oracle 11g R1 having custom database installed on it.
- All database and Oracle server files are stored on shared storage.
- It created windows services inside which we will be registered under cluster administrator
- We will install Oracle 11g R1 on node 2 (Passive node of windows cluster) with the software only option.
- We will manually create the oracle services on this node with the same name as we have on node 1.
In case the node 1 will be failed, node 2 will fail over and will become active node for the users.
Is there any one involve in such practice? did it work ?
Thanks,
I am installing 10g client and create an ORCL service using the Net configuration Assistant. I don't see this service when i open ontrol panel/administrative tools/services. Is this normal?
I thought i wld see it and start the service and listener. Some confusion here.... first of all, listener is a server process, which listens for incoming calls, you don't have it on a client.
Secondly, the service you created with Net Configuration Assistant is just an alias you'll use to connect a remote database to, and does not create any Windows service. You can find its specifications within tnsnames.ora file, in ORACLE_HOME\network\admin directory.
I'd read some documentation

Diff b/w Web service and window service
What is the difference between web service and window service, whether the both are same or not, Give some explain about that each one and give some examples also.
An XML Web service is a component that implements program
logic and provides functionality for diseparate
applications. These applications use standard protocols,
such as HTTP, XML, and SOAP, to access the functionality.
XML Web services use XML-based messaging to send and
receive data, which enables heterogeneous applications to
interoperate with each other. You can use XML Web services
to integrate applications that are written in different
programming languages and deployed on different platforms.
In addition, you can deploy XML Web services within an
intranet as well as on the Internet. While the Internet
brings users closer to organizations, XML Web services
allow organizations to integrate their applications.
A Windows service starts much before any user logs in to
the system (if it has been setup to start at boot up
process). A Windows service can also be setup in such a way
that it requires a user to start it manually ? the ultimate
customization!
Windows services run as background processes. These
applications do not have a user interface, which makes them
ideal for tasks that do not require any user interaction.
You can install a Windows service on any server or computer
that is running Windows 2000, Windows XP, or Windows NT.
You can also specify a Windows service to run in the
security context of a specific user account that is
different from the logged on user account or the default
computer account. For example, you can create a Windows
service to monitor performance counter data and react to
threshold values in a database. -

Oracle service does't start on windows 2000 gives error:
Could not start the oracle service on Local computer
Error 1053: The service did not respond to start or control
request in a timely fashion. This is what I did to start the oracle service..
1. Change the startup type to manual in the windows service panel
2. Restart the Windows 2000 PC
3. Start the Oracle service by clicking the start button in the services window.
4. It will hit the same error ie 1053..
5. Now kill the oracle process using windows Task Manager
6 Once again go back to services window and click the start button
7. It will show the status meter window with a close button..
8. After the status meter crosses halfway hit the close button..
9. Your oracle process is started now.. -
Creatting RFC Server as a windows service
Hi,
How to create RFC server as a windows service using sap.net connector. Please send me the sample code.hi, I don't know which problem do you meet.
As I know, there is a console RFC server sample in the SAP dotnet connector install directory, you can have a reference.
And I thinks as a dotnet developer, it is not a problem to convert a console application to a windows service.
Especially using VS.net, it is single to develop a windows service. You can search a sample in MSDN.
Hope it is useful -

Error in Creating the Oracle Fail Safe Group during installation on MSCS
Hi All,
I am installing ECC 6 dual stack on MSCS.
I have done steps till CI installation as per installation guide.
I am gettig the following error in the step "Creating the Oracle fail safe group" while changing physical hostname into the virtual databse hostname using configtool in secure store parameter jdbc/pool/<SAPSID>Url as per the installation guide.
"Error occurred while working with configuration(scanning)

I think it is not accepting the virtual hostname.
In our scenario CI is running CI node and DB instance is running on DB node.
I have followed the steps as per the installation guide.
Please let me know how to resolve this issue.

URGENT, Creating the Oracle Inventory Group
OS: 5.2
DB:10g Rel 2
Hello All,
I am installing 10g on AIX.
Per below link/document.
Page 2-11 (Pre Installation Task)
$ more /etc/oraInst.loc
/etc/oraInst.loc: A file or directory in the path name does not exist.
** Creating the Oracle Inventory Group
If the oraInst.loc file does not exist, then create the Oracle Inventory group by
using the following procedure:
1. Enter the following command:
smitty security
Choose the appropriate menu items to create the oinstall group.
http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/install.102/b19075.pdf
But I alreday created oinstall group.
Please note: we used oraabc instead of oracle.
id oraabc
uid=207(oraabc) gid=14(oinstall) groups=15(dba),16(oper)
Do I still need to create the oraInst.loc file or its is a part of installation?
DNAs far I know oraInst.loc file is created during installation procedure.
It consists of path to oracleInventory directory and installation group in your case - oinstall.
I never installed Oracle on AIX but I belive installation is (allmost) the same as on Linux or Solaris. -

Oracle Management Server - Windows Service
Dear all ...
I've just installed (for test) Oracle 9i Server in a machine with Windows XP and have created a database for test too. Also I've installed Oracle Management Service using EM Assistant and created a repository to use the Oracle Enterprise Manager with a OMS login but I have been finding some troubles that I can't understand.
Firts is: I have installed the OMS and I went to Windows Services Management to check with the service was running but it wasn't. When I try to start manually it shows me a message saying the service could not be started because the dependencies are not started or the service no longer exists. I can't understand why if I've just installed it. And I did check the properties and it has no dependencies.
Second: I've checked everything, Listener, TNSnames, Sqlora and also Hosts (Windows Parameters) and are all working fine. However, when I try to connect OEM by OMS I type user: Sysman (the first one) password: oem_temp and in Management Server I type "my_machine's_name" and it shows me a messagem saying it wasn't possible to resolve the name of the host.
I'd like two helps if it's ok. How can I sort out the problem with the service? Is it necessary to be running if I want to use OEM by OMS? How can I connect by OMS if OEM isn't recognising the host?
Thanks a lot
Bruno PalmaHi ...
So I rebooted the machine and I saw the service wasn't running and its status was Manual. Even setting it up to be Automatically and restaring again it didn't go up. Here I use a broad band which I receive a fixed IP and it doesn't change. I tryed in the TNSNames.ora to change the name of the host "name_of_my_machine" to the IP and didn't work too.
Thanks. -

Calling Oracle Report InSide Web Service Method
Is there way to call oracle reports inside one of my web service method.
If yes kindly let me know how we can do this and some documents related to this.
Thanks
RobertOracle reports does have a Web API when reports are run from the application server. As a result one way to do what you are asking is to write a Web service that use java.net.URL to invoke the Reports Service Web interface:
http://otn.oracle.com/products/reports/htdocs/getstart/docs/A92102_01/pbr_run.htm#1005598
As I understand it, this interface itself is actually being exposed as a Web service in a future release of Oracle9iAS Reports ... I don't know if this is a Oracle9iAS Reports 9.0.4 feature or beyond that. You might try asking on the Reports forum:
