Manually entering pixel dimensions

Having some measurement units confusion here.
Illy CS5
For the sake of a clean test: (and not how I normally work, but just to help rule out any file setting oddities) I create a new doc, using the New Document Profile: Print.
Select Rectangle Tool, click on artboard, type in 300px for width. ENTER.
In inches, it measures as 4.1667in. Why?
I expect it to be precisely 1in.
Also, if I punch in 300pt, it comes out to be 4.1667in as well.
I'm lost.

Illustrator assumes 72 ppi when converting units of measure on the rulers and transform controls and this it is the same for raster images and raster effects regardless of their native resolution which will be used when printing, exporting, and for displayed detail on the monitor like when zooming in. So, you can have a raster image with 1 x 1 inch with native resolution of 300 or any other ppi but illustrator will always show it as 72 ppi on its ruler and transform controls. The native ppi of raster images is displayed on the control bar and the raster effects settings can be checked under the Effects menu. Illustrator also uses the 72 ppi assumption for calculating the default image size when you use Save for web and devices and also when you use 100% zoom - for display purposes it rasterizes on the fly the vector on screen at 72 ppi in the same way if you choose Pixel Preview from the View menu and it fits one pixel from the document to one monitor pixel. If you happen to have a monitor from the last century with monitor pixel density of 72 ppi you will also have that 1 x 1 inch image or object as large as one real size inch. My monitor has 109 ppi and this makes the Illustrator inches at 100% zoom (Actual Size from View menu) very tiny for me.

  • Custom cropping using pixel dimension

The banner image module for my website requires images cropped to 940 x 400 pixels. When I use the Custom cropping function in PSE 12 (on a Mac OSX 10.9.2), it only shows a cm dimension. Can I do a custom crop using a pixel dimension?

You should just be able to type 940 px and 400 px in the width and height fields
Another way is to use the Rectangular Marquee Tool and use Aspect>Fixed Size then enter 940 px X 400 px

  • Fixed Asset - Manually enter opening balance

    Hi,
It's possible to manually enter fixed asset opening balance? anyone wanna share ways of manually enter? l only tried on import way.
    Thanks in advance!
    Phoebe

    Hi,
There is no feature that can be used to upload FA opening balance amount in the fixed asset addon.
If you refer to fixed asset master data import, you can use template fixed asset master data to import the master data.

  • Manually Enter the Sales Order Schedule Line

    Dear All,
I have a requirement where Sales Order will be created by Customer Service with Quantity and customer requested delivery date.  Subsequently Planning department will go to the sales order schedule lines and enter manually the delivery date and confirmed quantity (multiple schedule lines) based on the stock/availability.  They also need to do some changes in the shedule line if required.  But when I try, the manually entered schedule lines are disappeared.  Could any one advice how to set this up?
    Thanks,
    Regards,
    Venkat

    Hi Venkat
A schedule line gets grade out because this has been determined . through schedule line determination. . Now in the shipping data tab you can change the schedule line tab if you want .  manually you can change the request delivery date also.
But it is not advisable to change the schedule line because again the affect of availability check will vary.
But can we know for what purpose you want to change the schedule line when you create the sales order. Any reason .For what purpose you are going for that customization ?For what purpose?

  • How to draw custom line in crystal report without manually entering value?

    Hi,
I have a bubble chart and want to represent custom lines one in x-axis and one in y-axis at the value arrived based upon an internal calculation. There is an option to manually enter value for custom line.
But i want to generate custom line at runtime without manually entering it.
    Can somebody help out?

Not sure what this has to do with Database Connectivity?
Moved it to the Report Designer forum. If you are using code then specify what Report engine and version you are using and we can move it again.

  • How can I manually enter MIDI channel number in Control Surface expert Value Change field?

I am creating a software interface for a multidimensional controller which can transmit many linear values at the same time. I can not use Learn mode because it always sends data from all sources, but I can split them by MIDI channels. I would like to manually enter controlling values into Control Surface expert view.
I seem to be able only to input the message, but not MIDI channel on which it is transmitted.

Stupid me, it's hex... so 80 is Note Off ch 1, 90 Note On ch 1 etc

  • How do you find the pixel dimensions of a photo to embed in Illustrator CC?

We recently upgraded our software from CS3 to CC. I'm having trouble determining the pixel dimensions of the photo I want to embed in Illustrator. In our old work flow, we simply clicked on the object in Illustrator, and then opened a new document in Photoshop, and it would retain the dimensions at our document size in Illustrator. It was then a simple matter to paste the photo into the box, position and crop and save as a PSD file and then place in Illustrator. That does not work any more in Creative Cloud. The object downsizes to 72 DPI while retaining the resolution setting. We need to keep our Illustrator files to the minimum, so embedding larger than needed files is not possible.
I've researched a bit and I see others with similar problems, but I haven't seen a workaround or a way to determine the pixel size. Document info in Illustrator gives the 72 dpi pixel settings, even though the document is set to reproduce at 200 dpi.
This is something that used to be so simple I didn't think much of upgrading. Now my workflow is horrendously long. I have to rasterize the entire graphic and then crop what is the inset photo. If there is a simpler way, please tell me. All the literature is backwards, about placing an already sized PS image into Illustrator. I need the other way 'round.
Thanks in advance for any help.

I think I have a workaround: Make sure the clipboard settings are on 72 by cutting and pasting a 72 dpi file in PS, as it seems Illustrator images are seen that way, no matter what the output resolution is. Click on Photoshop and start a new document. It will retain the proportions of the Illustrator image in 72 dpi. Then open image size and make sure the resample box is checked. Change the resolution to the desired, in my case 200.. Then place and crop your photo, and save the PSD file. Open Illustrator and place the PSD file. This works for me.

  • Address bar no longer works with manually entered URLs

Four days ago the address bar stopped working. I am accustomed to manually entering many URLs and hitting 'enter' but although I can still enter URLs as normal, the 'enter' button does not load the relevant page, nor does the green arrow at the end of the address bar do so.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
See "Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile":
There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

  • How to find out the Pixel Dimensions and Document Size of placed images?

Is it possible to find out the placed image details like Pixel Dimensions(Width,Height) Document Size(Width,Height) in illustrator through scripting. Kindly advice me with some examples.

    http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.3bbaa316.59b84fd8
I hope the snippet therein will get you started.
But after all, when you place an image via pi=layer.placedItems.add() it should pop in with its default dimensions, so that you have pi.height and pi.width ready.
Is this what you are aiming at?

  • Is there any way to batch change resolution, but not pixel dimensions?

I was changing the resolution of my digital photos from 180 to 300 ppi individually as I edited them, but sometimes I would forget. Since I need the higher resolution for printing, I decided to automate that step by using PSE's "Process Multiple Files" feature. I noted that the Resolution selection was grayed out until I checkmarked "Resize Images." Since I didn't want to change the number of pixels, I left those fields blank.
When I started the automated processing I noticed it was terribly slow, so I cancelled it and looked at the resulting files. They had more than doubled in file size because PSE was nearly doubling the Pixel Dimensions! I don't want to try a work-around by "resizing" to the current pixel dimensions, because the processing still takes about 45 seconds per file, and if I've cropped the photos, the pixel dimensions vary. Is there an automated way to change only the resolution in PSE . . . quickly?
Also, I really wanted to double the resolution from 180 ppi to 360 ppi, but PSE limits my choices to either 600 or 300 or less. I've read about Scripts, but I don't think PSE supports them. I have version 6.
    Thanks for some help.

Thanks for your input, and you may be right, but I'm not sure. I'm still trying to figure this out. I know it's the same photo on my monitor, but I keep reading that print resolution (ppi) is different from pixel resolution (i.e. 2000x3000.) This is my situation-- I'm sending the photos to a publisher for printing in a book. The publisher did not specify a size in inches--in fact I think the photos will be different sizes when printed on the page. They told me to send the photos in at 1600x1200 pixels. I've heard that 300 ppi is the standard resolution for publishing, so to get decent quality printing of my photos I thought I should increase the resolution from 180 to 300. But thinking about the different sizes, it seems that the resolution (ppi) will change depending on the size the photo is actually printed. At 300 ppi, a 1600x1200 photo will be printed at size 5.333" X 4". If a photo is printed full bleed on the cover of the book that is 8" x 10.667", then it will be 150 ppi. So, I guess you are right that I don't need to worry about the ppi resolution for the book photos.
Now, let me figure about what I need to print my own 4x6 photos. My digital camera was set to 16x9 jpg, so my workflow is to make PNG copies to work with and after editing, save them in the 16x9 format before cropping at 1600x1200 pixels, then sharpening before doing Save As jpg in Book folder. I was thinking I needed to change the resolution to 300 ppi when saving in the 16x9 format so if I want to later make 4x6 prints, I'll have good quality prints. But you have made me think a little harder--what I do is choose the 4x6 crop tool which takes care of whatever ppi resolution is needed for that size print. Oh good, you have saved me extra work. Thanks!
(BTW, I choose the 16x9 format because I was planning to use the photos in a widescreen slideshow, but my husband wanted something he could hold in his hand--hence, the book . . . and a lot of cropping!)

  • Where is it possible to batch process the size of images?--I am able to change pixel dimensions in image processor but not image size in inches.

Hi- I need to batch process images for video project.  I am able to change the pixel dimensions in the image processor but don't seem to have the option to change image size in inches.  Please advise!  Thanks

You don't need inches for video (or screen viewing in general). It all goes by pixel count. Inches is for print, nothing else.
But to answer the question, you can run actions in the Image Processor, and this is where you set size in inches. Just bring up Image Size, uncheck "resample image", and specify size. You'll notice resolution changes to reflect the fact that the existing image pixels are now redistributed over the new print size.
But again, screen doesn't care about size or resolution. It only counts pixels.

  • How do I change DPI in Photoshop CC without changing the pixel dimension of the file?

I used to be able to do this in Photoshop CS6 by simply clicking the check boxes in the "image size" dialog box:
    scale styles
    constrain proportions
    resample image
    (all boxes UNCHECKED)
Then input the dpi (usually converting a 300dpi print file to 72dpi for web). And the pixel dimension will stay the same.
In CC the only option I see is "scale styles" which does not apply to the pixel dimension of the file.
Please help. I would hate to have to do this function in CS6 all the time.
    CS6:
    CC:

Just uncheck the [ ] Resample checkbox, then change your Resolution.
Change the units from Percent to Pixels if you want to see pixel dimensions.
Once you've successfully run it through (after OK), note that it will remember your units settings the next time you use it.

  • Would a photo with 70MB in pixel dimensions but low resolution print clearly?

    Hi there,
Here is a snapshot of the image size window:
Is it true that if pixel dimension is very large in size than the resolution number under document size doesn't matter ?
I really woudl appreciate your help in telling me if my photo will print clearely choosing the belwo document size.
    Many thanks!

This is the easiest way for you to get an acurate idea of what your image will look like printed...
    1) Create a new document the size it will be printed and set the resolution to 300dpi (pixels/inch). (Due to the size you are going for I suggest using RGB instead of CMYK)
    2) Open the file you created and (using the 'Move' tool) drag it onto the newly created document.
    3) Zoom in to 100% and what you see is what you get when printed.
The distance the print will be viewed from is important however, for example, if it's a billboard the viewer is pretty far so the quality is pretty forgiving and a resolution of 200dpi should work.
Feel free to hit me up and send me one of the pictures and I will give you an acurate judgement on how they will look printed at that size.

  • Changing ppi changes pixel dimensions but not document size?

I have an image that is W=4.375 H=6.124 at 355 ppi the pixel dimensions area under Img > Image Size indicates it is W=1553 px H=2174
When I change the resolution to 72 px it is only changing the pixel dimensions and not the document size. I'm confuesed.
    1. What is the difference between pixel dimensions and document size?
    2. Is the document the same physical size regardless if I make it 200 ppi, 150 ppi or 72?
    Thanks.

Let me see if I understand all of this:
    - If I change the resolution the print dimension will stay the same, though what is it actually doing to the image if I increase the resolution, though it still is the same print dimension? I am guessing you can not just add pixels to a given size image and expect it to print better.
    - If I change the dimensions, the resolution will change because there will be either more pixels for a smaller area or fewer pixels for a larger area, depending on how I size it.
    Thanks.

  • Reset Manually Entered Constrained Forecast Key Figure

We use Demand Planning to forecast future Sales Volumes.  Not too sophisticated.  We take a monthly extract from R/3 which summarize the last months Sales Actuals.
based on a given period of Sales History we then run a statistical forecast whicgh generates future months foreasts.
Once a manual adjustment has been made to a key figure by either Acciount Manager/Marketing Group?Demand Planner, that particular field is highlighted in 'YELLOW'.  Once this is done any future copies of stat numbers into those fields does not overwrite the users manual inputs.  As you would expect.
However we have some apparently manually entered values in our Constrained Key Figures that are completely incorrect.  However because the cells are yellow, the copy key figure macro will not be able to overwrite these values.  Is ther a way I can somehow reset these yellow cells so that they no longer resist the copying of data into them.
Apologies if I am using the incorrect terminology here.
Thanks for anything you can suggest.

I think your requirement could be met by exploring macro functions CELL_BG(), CELL_FG(), CELL_INPUT(), ROW_BG(), ROW()FG or ROW_INPUT() functions. All the macro functions can be made conditional, example a specific technical/business situation leads to color/editability etc.
