Manually geotagging using GPS coordinates - not location names?

I recently came back from a vacation in Oregon where I took close to 1000 pictures. Since I knew it would be difficult to remember the exact location of every picture, I brought along a standard GPS and took a snapshot of the coordinates displayed on the screen at each location I took pictures. I probably should have tested my theory first, but I assumed I could just plug the GPS coordinates manually into iPhoto. It turns out I can only use a location name - not coordinates. Since most of my photos were taken away from civilization, they don't exactly have names.
I don't mind doing a little manual work to make this work, but does anybody know how I can get exact GPS coordinates on my picture? I don't really want to just type "Portland Starbucks" or something and have to drag around until I'm close to where I think the picture was taken.
Thanks for your help!

iPhoto has a neat feature called "Help"
Here is what it says about your question:
*Using latitude and longitude to add places to your photos*
If you have latitude and longitude information for the place where you shot your photos, you can use it to add the location to your photos and Events.
To use latitude and longitude to add a place:
Select the photo or Event you want to add location information to.
Click the Information button in the lower-right corner.
This “flips” the photo thumbnail or Event tile so that you can enter information about it on the “back.”
NOTE:You can also select and add locations to more than one photo in an Event or other group, without adding locations to them all. To do so, select the desired photos by dragging or Command-clicking, move your pointer over the selected photos, and then click the “i” button for any one of them. Continue to step 3.
Select “photo place” for photos or “event place” for Events, and then choose “Find on map” from the pop-up menu that appears as you type.
The Add New Place dialog appears.
In the search field, type the latitude and longitude, separated by a comma.
For example, you can type “24, -110” or, if you prefer, you can use a longer format, such as “24.15988731, -110.50838234.” It’s important to always put the latitude first.
Look at the map to confirm the location, and then do one of the following:
If the location is correct, continue to step 6.
If the location is incorrect, you can enter the latitude and longitude in the search field again, or drag the pin to a more exact location on the map.
If you want, use the plus and minus buttons to zoom in and out, and drag the map to center it on a better spot.
When you’re finished, click the Assign button.

  • Lightroom 4 - GPS coordinates not saved in EXIF when Exporting JPGs

I have updated GPS coordinates using the new Map module but these are not output with the EXIF when I export JPGs.
I have ensured that Remove Location Info is unchecked.
    I welcome any advice
    regards
    JWW001

As requested I attach screen shots of the LR4 metadata panel after I have updated the coordinates in LR4 and also the LR4 export dialog. Also a JPEG of the exported photo which still has the original coordinates untouched from the camera along with the EXIF coordinates. These are incorrect as the camera hadn't acquired the satellites. LR4 has successfully exported the copyright information.

  • Using GPS coordinates for address on iPhone 4

I need to add GPS coordinates to a contact on my iPhone 4. I need to be able to click on the coordinates and be taken to the location within maps. Is there a way to do this with the new iOS4 and iPhone 4? Thanks

I would add that I observed an odd glitch in iOS 4. I haven't seen it occur yet in iOS 5 on my phone, but I have seen it manifest on my iPad with 5.0.1.
At the office, we have a secure WiFi network that does not broadcast the SSID. Occasionally, I'll see what you see above, and on my iPad (NOT 3G) I will see the WiFi indicator completely disappear... however, I am actually still connected to and using WiFi. If I put it to sleep and wait 5 minutes or so, then fire it up again, the indicator will come back.
I know It's on WiFi on the phone because I can see systems that are not visible to the outside world.

  • Qosmio F55-Q502 can't use GPS in Vietnam and Southeast Asia

I have a Toshiba Qosmio F55 Q502 Laptop with Garmin GPS integrated system buy from US.
But when i carry it to Vietnam and try to use GPS, it not work.
I open Garmin Mobile PC, It just have US and EU maps.
I try to turn on GPS, but the satellite signal always empty.
I've tried to go around many places with clear sky view but cound'nt catch the sattelite signal.
I though that GPS is Globe Positioning system that mean it can be use everywhere over the world.
I dont know may be my GPS have problem or the GPS can't use in VietNam.
My laptop has just bought a few days and i haven't tried GPS in US before.
Can anyone help me solve this problem?

GPS is worldwide, but the maps you get with a device are genreally not.
So the GPS should be able to get a satellite fix anywhare on the planet for as long as there is good singal, but you might have to purchase the maps of the country you want (unless just having your current coordinates is enough for you).
Take the laptop somewhere with no tall buildings around you and an unobstructed view of the sky and wait for it to get a fix (it might take up to 10-15 mins on a cold start depending on the GPS chip). Don't try this inside a house or a car just to minimise any complicating factors.

  • My New iphone 5s gets hot quickly when using GPS and downloading apps/movies. Is this normal? My Iphone 5 never did that!

I Have had my IPhone 5s for less than a month and have noticed that it gets very hot while downloading apps/movies and while using GPS.  (not at the same time) Battery life is also disappointing!  Normal?? My 5 never had this problem!

    Hi anthonym73,
If you are having an issue with your iPhone getting hot you may want to read this article for some guidance -

I tried dropping a pin on the location I want to go to but Apple maps still directs me to a location about 30 miles away.

I tried dropping a pin on the location I want to go to but Apple maps still directs me to a location about 30 miles away.
That "should" work.  Drop the pin exactly where you want it, tap the arrow on the right and the select Directions to/from here.

    Hi
In BO 4.0 SP 9 when a administrator tries to schedule a report via CMC there is no error
But when a user schedules a report and the destination is FTP location -> Use default settings he gets following error
Destination disabled. []: [CrystalEnterprise.Ftp]. Please note the name of the job server used for your request and contact your system administrator to make sure the specified destination is enabled. (FWB 00031)
There is only one Job Server and the destinations are enabled in it
There is no Job server for Crystal Reports Job Server
Do i need to create it and how.

Please check if you have proper rights to schedule to FTP. You can create a new job server, whenever you schedule it, there are multiple job servers, it will handle based on the load. But it is not mandatory, depends on the load.

You cannot deactivate fonts when the are installed as system fonts. But you can install fonts for some software manufacturer like Adobe for them only in the Application Support in their subfolder is a font.
With InDesign you can also install fonts for InDesign only in InDesign's font folder.
With in InDesign you can also install fonts on a Document level only, if you place them in a folder named "Document fonts" which has to be in the same directory as the INDD file is.
But with the current CC versions you see in the font dialog a star at the left of the font's name. Click on this star, then it will become a Favorite, and then you can click above to filter your favorites only. This will hide all other fonts. This may work for you to reduce the list.

  • Where can I find the GPS coordinates in iPhoto 11 for geotagged pics? In iPhoto 09 this information was available under the Photos menu "Show Extended Photo Information".

Where can I find the GPS coordinates in iPhoto 11 for geotagged pics? In iPhoto 09 this information was available under the Photos menu "Show Extended Photo Information".

I think you can only see the map.  To see the actual EXIF data you would need to export and use a viewer.

  • "Could not locate the bean with the ejb-name XYZ in weblogic-ejb-jar.xml

    Hi,
Please someone help me on this...
I'm trying to deploy an application on WLS 8.1 SP4
on HPUX IA64 arch. From the ear file WLS is able to
deploy 3 jars but for the last two jars it's throwing
    the below error:
Could not locate the bean with the ejb-name xyz in weblogic-ejb-jar.xml
But ejb with name xyz is defined in the the weblogic-ejb-jar.xml file and it's also present in the
    META-INF/ejb-jar.xml file.
I have no clue what's going wrong.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks
    Mouli

oops! Pls ignore my previous mail. It was for a different problem.
FOr the original problem of "couldn ot locate the bean with the ejb-name XZY in weblogic-ejb-jar.xml":
This happens if you don't have the below files defined
    for a JAR/EAR file:
weblogic-ejb-jar.xml and weblogic-cmp-rdbms-jar.xml (needed if you have any Datasource mapped)
These two are basic files required for any JAR/EAR file.
If you dont' have it already you can generate them using
    $WLS_HOME/bin/startWLBuilder.sh GUI tool bundled along
with WLS (I used 8.1 SP4) to generate these files ! This tool is really helpful.

I have 3 PC's.  Two of them I use at 2 different locations and only use them 6 months each year.  When I turn on a computer that has not been used for 6 months, does all of the old information from that computer end up in Icloud?  Does Icloud push all the new calendar and contact items over the old items?

A reset may help. Tap and hold the Home button and the On/Off buttons for approximately 10-15 seconds, until the Apple logo reappears. When the logo appears, release both buttons.
No content is affected by this procedure.
