Manually manage songs and drag songs from library into ipod

I always use manually manage songs in itunes. Everything used to work fine until yesterday. I convert a cd into the library, and afterwards drag the songs into the ipod. now when i try to drag anything from the library nothing happens, and I dont get any error messages. Any help would be appreciated.

  • Movie playlist in iTunes is not showing up on iPhone after manually managing syncing and including movies from playlist.

Movie playlist in iTunes is not showing up on iPhone after manually managing syncing and including movies from playlist.

Thank you.  This solved my problem too.
But, one little thing to share:
"There's an option in settings for Playlists. It was set to Music only. Changed that to All then found the movie playlist under Movies by selecting Genre."
This is not to be done in iTunes in your computer; this is to be done at your apple TV under "setting". "audio video" "show playlist" "music only/all"
I am posting this here because I started chat mode with Apple support last night at midnight till 1:30, they didn't know what to do.
They called me back this morning at 10 am.
    It's not 11:40 they finally know what I am talking about and showed me where to to find the "music only / all" toggle.  My problem is now fixed;
all these time, they have in front of them a screen shot of your questions and answer but they don't know where to change it from music only to all.
So, I hope this will save the next victim a lot of time.
    Again, thank you.

  • Loaded iTunes 11 to a new computer, library showed all of my songs.  Synched my nano 5th gen and lost 2/3 of my songs.  Dragged all from library to "Daves iPod" and it still won't add them.  What's wrong??

I've tried to manually manage my account, then also "transfer only checked songs ..." and it still wants to clear my iPod.  I had close to 200 songs on it originally but it now only has about 53.  All of the others I can see in my library but I cant get them to transfer.  What am I missing or doing wrong?

To make sure I'm reading this thread correctly, are you saying that only the music files were stored on the hard drive, not the .itl or .xml files?  If that is correct, then you likely won't be able to recover your library.  You'll either need to restore from backup or re-create manually.  The only other thing to check is to see if there is potentially a .itl file saved on your external hard drive?

  • With New 7.0 how to put movies from Library into iPod??

    Help Please.
I now have 7.0 and usually I drag and drop movies into my ipod from itunes library. I have several short movies already in the ipod and it seems if I want to add more, the ones that are in will be taken out and replaced with the new one. I changed my orriginal movies to m4p and did not keep them in the library, so I think I will lose them when I try to add.
The only way I can think of to do it is to revert back to 6.3, put in the movie and then update again.
Is there any way I can keep my movies in the ipod and add more without losing them?? Any ideas??
    many thanks Chrisie

additional info: I found some hint that the iPad can't take just any old movie format, so I used "Convert to format for iPad", an option i had never seen on iTunes on my imac before. But sadly, even the .m4v format of the movie will not show up on the iPad under iTunes nor under iMovie.
I can certainly take an iPad iMovie trailer to the iMac if I 'finish' it, but it is a final a product, so i would have to break it up into all the little sections again.
So I still cannot seem to move a movie file to the iPad iMovie edit window. All my 'finished' iMovies show up under "movies" on the iPad, but never under the iMovie edit window. Hope that's clear.
I want to use those new trailers with my home video.
    NEWEST Update, still no joy
I found this tech article http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4792 that says i can move an iMovie from iOS to iMovie on my Mac. I followed the steps exactly, but iMovie on teh Mac does not recognize the iMovie Trailer, so the Import button stays grayed out.
    so close.

Also, just updated the phone's software today, and iTunes' software is already up to date.

    Hi Gregg,
Have you tried resetting the device (nothing will be lost): Hold down the Home and Power buttons at the same time and continue to hold them down until the Apple appears (up to 30 seconds). Once the Home screen redisplays, see if your Music app is behaving normally.

  • HT2688 How can I "click and drag" songs from one shared library to another?

I have home sharing activated on my mom's computer and mine and before the newest version of itunes, we were able to click and drag songs from one users' library into the other. We are not able to do that now and I wanted to know if there was a way to do this in the newest version of itunes.

I am using a Windows computer first off, not sure if that makes a difference,  When you say "click import" where is import.  I can not find anything that says "import" to click.

  • There are no songs in my itunes library found when selecting autofill, and dragging songs into device does not do anything now what?

when i hit auto fill under music it just says Itunes cannot add any song to "___'s Iphone" because no songs in your itunes library could be found.
there clearly is an anbundance of music that I have been syncing all the time, I have not the slightest idea why it just stopped working, also when I try to manually click and drag songs into the device tab in itunes, NOTHING happens.
any suggestions on how to fix it

I have a very smilar problem. Recently imported my modest music collection from my old G3 CRT to a new Mac Mini by linking the two machines and then dragging the music library and songs over.
iTunes works fine in normal screen mode, music library is all there and all songs are visible and play but when trying to play back with the Apple Remote it opens up iLife ok and lists the playlists. Click on 'Songs' it says that there are no songs in the library. Click on any playlist then it goes to 'Shuffle Songs' then 'Error has occured' It can't seem to see the music library.
I put this question on iTunes and Mac Mini discussion and got:
Some other people have had similar problems, you might see if the suggestions in this thread help:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=447043
Tried but as yet no success. Tried re-naming the iTunes Music Library.xml and also deleting com.apple.frontrow.plist from Library and letting it rebuild without any luck.
Any suggestions out there as how to resolve this? Thanks in advance.

  • Manually managing music creates duplicate songs on device

The following problem has repeatedly occurred with 2 different (windows) computers and 2 iPod Nanos and my iPhone. I must be doing something wrong, although I can't understand what.
I prefer to manually manage the music that is on my device. I don't want my whole library on my device and I don't want to sync a selection of albums. I simply want to copy music to my device as I see fit.
On the device info page (iPod or iPhone) I deselect all check boxes except for "Manually manage music and videos". Then I open my music library in an explorer window, ctrl select the folders (albums) that I want to put on my device, and drag them over to the device icon in iTunes.
This always results in some duplicate songs. Not every album, but sometimes as many as %50 of the albums that I put on the device have every song on the album duplicated, some albums in triple. I always have to go through everything that I just put on the device and manually select the duplicates and remove them.
I thought it could be duplicating songs which have album cue files in their folders, but cannot reproduce the problem. It seems to only happen when I copy more than a few albums.
    What am I doing wrong?

    turingtest2 wrote:
Just a thought, but surely iTunes will see dragging from Explorer directly to iPod as shorthand for add to library and then add to iPod. If iTunes preferences are also set to "copy files when adding to library" then if you drag in anything that's not already inside the iTunes Media folder this will result in the production of duplicate copies.
Up until now I have explicitly been trying to avoid letting iTunes know anything about my library, and thus have "copy files when adding to library" turned off. Basically I don't like what iTunes does to try to organize and move and rename things and don't trust it with my music library
    Katrina S. wrote:
Js there any pattern to it? that might be difficult to figure out, and maybe take quite a few syncs.... and require writing down which ones it happens to. I don't think you're doing anything wrong, but I will say, that's never happened to me. Somethingmust be different between our 2 systems.
That is a good idea, but will take some time as this is definitely not on top of my priority list. Anybody else? For now it seems to happen randomly. I just moved 4 albums over last night and it only happened to the one album with the most tracks on it this time. Luckily I'm getting better at removing them by hand in iTunes ... although it's definitely not fun.
What is an album cue file? i don't have any of those.
A cue sheet is a text file that lists the album information and song length, filenames, and time stamp location for burning onto a cd. Some of my albums have cue sheets, but I don't think this is affecting the problem I'm having.
    Thanks for your responses!

  • HT1535 my iphone is set to "manually manage music and videos" and it still does not allow me to add music from my other computers.

I have followed the steps in order to manually manage the music on my 3GS iphone. (used the latest version of itunes and my iphone is up to date with iOS5) and it still is not allowing me to add music from another computer.
when i plug it into the second computer, it is asking me to click "manually manage music and videos" again. when i do that, it says it is going to sync with this new library and erase all music that is already there. i dont want this to happen! i only want to add a few select songs from each library. I have waaayy to much to add and erase every time.
both of the computers i am using are PCs and have my itunes id for homesharing... please help me!

    Refer to this article
Using iPhone, iPad, or iPod with multiple computers
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1202
    Notes:
iPod shuffle and iPhone are intended for use with a single computer. You cannot load music from multiple computers or iTunes libraries onto iPod shuffle and iPhone like you can with other devices.

  • Cannot delete music from iPod nano (latest generation).  Have already selected "Manually Manage music and videos" but delete is unavailable from right click or Edit.

I have done everything I've seen recommended for deleting music (jncluding "manually manage").  Thanks for the assistance!!!

Did you Apply the change after selecting (checking the box for) Manually manage music and videos?
With the latest iTunes, if the sidebar is hidden, from the menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.
In the sidebar, select the iPod under DEVICES.  Click the toggle (to the left of iPod) to drop down the iPod's content list, indented under iPod.  Click on Music there.  Over to the right, the list of songs on the iPod is shown.  You can select songs there, right click on them, and select Delete from the contextual menu.  You can also select songs there, go up to the menu bar, and select Delete under Edit.  You can also select songs there, and just press the Delete key on the keyboard.
If you want to use automatic syncing, which is far more convenient than the manual method, and easily manage content on the iPod (add and remove songs), please post back.

  • Drop and drag songs

Can anyone offer suggestions on what I can check in itunes that will allow me to drop and drag songs from one list/folder to another?
    Thanks

You'll need to choose manual update from iPod preferences.

If you want to drag and drop ( don;t know why you would do this), you will have to check manually manage music.
    Why not just sync?

  • How do I select multiple songs and uncheck them from compilations (itunes 10.5.2)

So I found to my annoinance that itunes has recently moved much of my music to compilations that shouldn't be there. I tried searching online for how to turn compilations off or select multiple songs and uncheck them from compilations all at once and although I found both answers, they must have only worked for older versions of itunes. I no longer can find the option to turn off compilations under preferences and when I try to select multiple songs at a time then press "Get Info" the "part of a compilation" checkmark is not there. It is only there when one song is highlighted. This is very frustrated. In fact I would venture to say I've never been so angry with Apple. There are 609 songs "stuck" in my freaking compilations! I don't have time nor should I have to take the time to go through every single song right clicking it, pressing "Get info", unchecking "part of compilation" then clicking ok. WAY TOO MUCH TIME! If anyone has any good news on a faster way to do this I'd be VERY THANKFUL!

This was a life saver! I even started to manually tick the box as well!

Can't copy a song from library into playlist. Screen message says "song can't be found." I know it's there, how do I access it?.

I fixed this issue (with help from tech support) and it involved several things.
After adding a song to iTunes, right-click on the song in iTunes and select "Update iTunes Match."
OR go to the iTunes menu-->Store-->Update iTunes Match.
Maybe that's the reason, it just hadn't updated to the cloud.
OR maybe it's not a high-enough bitrate file.   This happens to me because most of my tunes are home-recorded.
Sometimes converting to .mp3 or Create AAC version might work. (You do this with a right-click in iTunes, and then you will want to remove the original file from iTunes.)
There is an iTunes Preferences setting, under General Preferences called Import Settings.  Try setting it to AAC Encoder and iTunes Plus.   That (I think) causes imports to be slightly better quality.
Good luck!  The tech support person at Apple is requesting that a knowlege-base article be written about this.
