Manually managed artwork won't show on ipod

hi! this is my post because i don't really know how to solve this problem.
i have the last version of itunes under windows xp pro, using a 30gb 5G ipod video. before installing the new itunes (before having the games support) when i managed the artwork i only had to drag'n'drop the image file on the info window or into the little artwork screen and itunes copied the artwork inside the music file (i know because when i copy the mp3 from the ipod to PC media player showed artwork correctly).
so now, when i try to put any artwork on the ipod, it will only show on itunes. there's no evidence that itunes is changing ID tags to add the artwork inside the mp3's. so when i disconnect ipod from the PC, there's no artwork relationed with the album/song in the ipod.
the only way i can currently put artwork in the ipod is transferring the mp3 to itunes library, then from library to ipod and only if itunes previously has found the artwork itself.... and if i do so, then artwork will show on the ipod but not on itunes.... that's weird.
it's too much work for nothing, i like to manage artwork myself, because maybe i'm having some mp3 that are not any "official" album (like class recordings or something like that) and there's no way that itunes can find any artwork for these files (anyway, i don't like to use itunes as music software cause it's too slow with windows, so i don't want to have all my songs listed on itunes library).
sooooooo.... is there any way to insert artwork inside the ID tags with itunes as we could do it with the old itunes? i hope there is, it's driving me crazy and currently i don't really know which songs have artwork and which don't. i had a very neat and accured artwork database before that ** itunes update T_T
thanks you so much in advance!!

Strangely I was able to find help myself. I checked one box under the settings that said something like "show album artwork". Strange because it was unchecked before, I had never checked it myself and previously all the artwork was visible properly...
When I clicked that checkbox, to my horror iTunes said something to the effect of "Deleting artwork from 'iPod'". After that it went for a long time into a "Optimizing artwork for 'iPod'" and after that wait all the artwork is shown properly. I wonder what that did...?

  • Album Artwork won't show on iPod Touch

I am running iTunes 10.6.3.25 on my Windows Vista laptop and iOS 5.1.1 on my iPod touch. I have transferred some new albums to the iPod and the album artwork don't show on the iPod. It does show up in iTunes and if I look on my iPod through iTunes, I see the artwork when I "get info" but it won't show up on the iPod itself. Anyone out there having the same problem?

I have had this problem since iOS4 and I recently (mostly) resolved it in iOS6.
    1. First make sure you do not 'Sign In' into iTunes store.
    2. I used playlists to resolve the issue. Create a playlist with one song, preferably one that does not have any album art.
    3. Create another playlist with all the songs you want to add.
    4. With your iTouch/iPhone attached open iTunes. Go to Device->Music. Under Sync Music:choose "Selected playlists, albums and genres". Choose the one song playlist from those shown. Click on the Sync(Apply) button. This will delete all of the songs.
    5. Once the deletion is complete choose the playlist with all the songs. Click on the Apply(Sync)button. This will install all the songs again and with album artwork.
    6. Once all the songs have been installed click on all the playlists that you want to add (no new songs) and click on the Sync(Apply) button again.
You should now have your songs with album artwork and playlists installed. Hope this helps. The song in the one song playlist won't have any artwork even if it is included. There were some albums whose artwork were not installed. I had a 95% success rate. As I said, it mostly solves the problem for me.

  • ITunes 10, album artwork won't show on ipod 'selected item'

The songs on my computer display album artwork fine, but on my iPod (Classic) it only displays the 'Now Playing' artwork. If I set it to show 'Selected Item' it will only show the artwork of the song playing, if it's selected. It won't show album artwork of any other songs that I select, instead it shows the 'Drag Artwork Here' image, even when the songs already have artwork.
The artwork shows up fine when I'm playing songs on my ipod, or if I click 'Get Info', but it just won't show up in the side bar. I've tried unistalling and reinstalling iTunes and it didn't make a difference. I can't restore my ipod to factory settings because a lot of the music I have isn't backed up. Is there anything I can do?

After I have downloaded my music,I tried to upload the artwork from my computer, but it wouldn't apply.I have tried a few times,I even tried to upload the artwork to only one song, the same thing happened. Please help, thank you.

You cannot apply your own artwork to .wav files. If that isn't the issue try Repair security permissions for iTunes for Windows.

  • Artwork won't show

My nano won't show artwork like it's suppossed to. I tried the whole, "check and uncheck display album artwork on your iPod" under preferences. Then I get an error message as follows: The iPod cannot be updated. An unknown error occured (-50).
    What should I do?

I'm having the same problem with album artwork not dragging.
-tried dragging with all tracks selected.
    -tried dragging individually.
-tried going to GET INFO and drag to the mini picture placeholder, for all tracks and individual tracks.
-tried dragging to the Artwork tab within GET INFO.
I've made sure that SELECTED SONG is showing, and not NOW PLAYING.
The songs I'm trying to update are not playing while I try updating.
Can anyone think of anything else?

  • Some album artwork won't display on iPod Classic

I've had a strange problem recently with my new iPod Classic(and, come to think of it, my 2nd gen. iPod Nano): certain album artwork won't properly display, but will instead show up as a black square(like the 5th Metallica album, or the Spinal Tap album...). Sometimes, this happens only with certain songs on an album. For instance, I purchased 2 songs from the album "Employment" by Kaiser Chiefs last year. Recently, I purchased the CD, and I imported it to my computer. I chose "get album artwork" so the album cover would display for the newly imported songs, as well as the 2 I already bought. Now, the 2 songs I bought last year display their artwork normally, but the newly imported tracks just display the black square.
What's going on, and how can I fix it?
    Thanks in advance..

in iTunes, choose to not *display Album Artwork on your iPod*, then sync your iPod, then change it back to display album artwork and sync again. I believe that will fix it.

  • Manually Manage Music Option get error The iPod cannot be updated error(-50

I am following the instructions on how to move music to a new computer. When I get to the step "Switch the iPod to manual update and enable disk use" and try to apply the 'Manually manage music' option, I get the following error: 'The iPod (my iPod) cannot be updated. An unknown error occurred (-50). I have tried moving my dock between the two USB ports on my Dell but nothing works..can someone help?

I tried some additional things and it seems to have fixed the problem.
First, I forced the iPod Service to close using the Windows task manager (control-alt-delete and then closing it). I then restored my iPod to its original factory settings using that option in iTunes.
I renamed the iPod and then set up what I wanted to sync with it. I have made a couple of changes and they have worked.

  • 'Manually manage music' won't stay unchecked

I recently got a new computer (old one crashed) and transferred my iTunes library to it. I would like to have my music and videos auto-update whenever I connect my iPod. I've followed all the steps in the help file. I've also looked for this topic in the forums here, and followed the few recommendations mentioned, but to no avail.
Whatever I do, the 'Manually manage music' checkbox reverts back to checked after I 'Apply' it. I think it has to do with the fact that an iPod will only auto-sync with one computer. How can I get my iPod to know that my current computer is the one I want it to sync with?

If it's set to Auto-sync, it will auto-sync to the computer it gets plugged into.
    Restore it.

  • Purchased new music, now old music won't show on iPod but still takes space

    Hello,
My girlfriend has a problem on her iPod Touch. It was loaded with about 9GB of music (mostly CD rips, a few itunes purchases). Now she purchased 28 songs from the store, and sent them to the iPod (her iTunes is set up to manually manage songs and videos). But now only the 28 new songs appear on the iPod; the others are missing. But the space that was taken up by those songs, is still taken up, and is shown as "Other" instead of "Audio". If she tries to send the old songs to the iPod again, the songs starts being transferred, but the "Other" capacity stays the same, and so the iPod fills up before the transfer is completed, and 9 GB are wasted. How can she fix this? Is a total restore needed? I hope not!
    Thanks in advance,
    Cristian

    Hi,
This situation can occur occasionally with no specific cause.
Unfortunately, a restore is the only way to fix it.
I have only encountered this problem once myself and I'm fairly sure it was because I was a little clumsy when plugging in the cable connector, not square on. Just a thought.
    Good luck,
    Dud.

  • Manually added artwork won't stick anymore.

I can get it added but it's not persistent. It goes away as soon as I go away from the particular album.
This used to work. I've added lots of manual artwork for the album covers. But somewhere with new releases of software it broke. I'm on the current version of Itunes but can't tell you exactly what version used to work.
I've completely uninstalled and reinstalled Itunes as recommended by support but it didn't help.
Is anyone else having problems with their manually added artwork?

Adding artwork to songs and other items
Music and video you buy from the iTunes Store comes with its own artwork. *You can add your own artwork to songs and other items in your library.*
*You can add many popular types of still-image files, including JPEG, PNG, GIF, TIFF, and Photoshop. You must convert WAV files to another format before you can add artwork.*
In list view (the leftmost View button), to display artwork for the currently selected item, choose View > Show Artwork or click this button (in the bottom left of the iTunes window):
Make sure the artwork you import into iTunes is a compatible format. If your personal movie is a WAV file, it must be converted to another format before artwork can be added.

  • When I try to transfer songs to my ipod touch or my friends ipod nano in which both have manually managed music, I get error 13019 "Ipod cannot be synced".  This problem started to occur all of a sudden. Any ideas other than the resyncing?

When I try to transfer songs to my ipod touch or my friends ipod nano, I get error 13019 "Ipod cannot be synced".  Everything was working fine and transferring successfully and then this problem started to occur all of a sudden. My music is managed manually and always has. I looked online for a solution and they all involve resyncing the library and unchecking voice memos. Is there a way to resolve this issue without having to resync my music or reinstall itunes?

Have you powered off and then back on the router?
Have you done anything to the router recently like changed a setting?
    Have you tried:
    - Resetting the iPod. Nothing will be lost.
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Resetting network settings: Settings>GeneralReset>Reset Network SettingsTo me the error sounds like a network/router problem vice aan iPod problem.

  • Updated to iTunes 7 - artwork no longer shows on ipod

After upgradeing to iTunes 7 and firmware upgrade to 1.2 on my 60gb video ipod, I no longer see artwork on my ipod. In fact, everything was pretty messed up, so I restored my ipod, but retained the 1.2 firmware version and iTunes 7 on my PC (Win XP Pro).
I've now added some of my music back onto the ipod, and I've added some artwork and it all shows up correctly in iTunes, but doesn't show up at all on my ipod.
The only clue I have is an error I get when I enable the option to "Show artwork on the ipod" (in the Music tab) and hit Apply. I do not get the error when I uncheck this option and hit Apply. The error is "An Unknown Error has Occurred (-50)". I have spent the last 2 days searching the apple site as well as others but can't find anything with the (-50) error having to do with enabling artwork on the ipod.
I then thought that maybe one or more of my artwork .jpg files might be invalid or something, so I used iTunes to remove all of the artwork from every music file on my ipod, but I continue to get the same error everytime I try to set the option to enable artwork on my ipod.
I have to wonder if possibly there is something else going on here. I figured that after restoring my ipod back to factory and loading only a few of my music files back on, that the problem would resolve itself, but apparently it must be a bug in iTunes 7 or something else. I'm not doing anything I didin't do with iTunes 6.x and I've never had any problems seeing my album artwork on my ipod before.
Does anyone know what is going on?? I'm stumped.
    Thanks

  • Album artwork won't display on iPod?

I have been struggling with this problem for awhile now -- any help would be appreciated!
When I have my iPod plugged into my computer, I can see all of the album artwork that is set for my music on my iPod through iTunes. However, when my iPod is playing on its own, none of the album artwork will display. I have "display album artwork" set in the options. I have tried unchecking this option, ejecting the iPod from the computer, reconnecting the iPod, then rechecking the option, but this hasn't worked. Any ideas how I can fix this?

I believe this may have to do with how you are assigning the artwork to the albums. It seems like you have to assign the album art to every song in the album in order for it to show correctly on your ipod. For example, if you have a song playing in iTunes and you paste the artwork in the "paste artwork here" in the lower left corner; that is only updating the current song (even if you select multiple).
I have found the easiest thing to do is as follows (windows):
Highlight all the songs in an album. Right click-->Get Album Artwork. Pray that works. If iTunes can't find the artwork then plan B:
    1) go to Amazon.com or or google images and find an image and the copy (just right click-->copy).
    2) select all songs for an album-->right-click-->Get Info-->Check "Artwork", right-click-->paste

  • Album artwork won't display on ipod! help!

my album artwork shows up on my itunes library, but doesn't show up on my ipod. what am i doing wrong?

So you're saying you no longer have your music library in iTunes? That's pretty risky behavior. At some point, most folks end up having to Restore the iPod, which erases it. If you don't have your music in iTunes, you'll have to rip it all over again. And you'll lose anything you've purchased from the iTunes store.
And enabling "Show Album Artwork on iPod" isn't going to do any good if you no longer have your music (and artwork) in iTunes to resync with the iPod.

  • Gray items in itunes won't show on ipod

I downloaded a book from the library (I do it all the time), but this time several chapters show grayed on Itunes with a dotted circle and don't show on my nano ipod at all?

First, have you updated your iPod with the latest software? Note that I'm referring to the software (firmware) on the iPod itself, not your version of iTunes.
Second, have you played each track at least once within iTunes before you try and load the track to your iPod? If you haven't played the tracks once, try doing that and then see if they'll load.
    Hope this helps.
