Manually managing the music on my ipod with the new itunes

How can I manually manage the music on my ipod with the new itunes?  I used to be able to do it without any issues, but now I am unable to find how to do it.  Thanks!

You'll want to copy the music from your iPod to your computer and into iTunes first.  See this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering some of the different methods and software available to assist you with this task.  Once you have successfully copied all your content back to your PC and into iTunes, you can safely Erase and Sync your iPod.

Music Rescue also works as far as restoring your playlists etc. I've used it twice, you can use the Quick Recover mode, but have to click continue trial (something like that) allot, cp. to purchase option. Otherwise diesel is right as far as restoring via  your purchase history.

If I installed Itunes and music on a PC that died --- can I download/import the music on my IPOD to a new ITunes account?

Sync is only oneway, from PC to your device.  Unless you have the music on your PC, iTunes is going to wipe out what you have on your device if you are syncing to a new library.
You can only transfer Purchased music over to Itunes on your PC.

As for you own music, you may have to use a third party software.  A good Free one is called Sharepod which you can download from Download.com here:

  • I can no longer see or manage my music when my ipod is connected to itunes.  The "on this ipod" button is no longer an option in my toolbar.  How do I fix this?

After my last itunes update there is no longer a button in the tool bar for me to view what is on my ipod.  I can see screens that allow me to sync but I can't see any of the content, which means I can't add or delete anything without doing a full sync.  I have always had my ipod set to manually manage my music because I don't want my entire library on my ipod (I also don't think it would fit).  I don't want to have to restore my ipod as I have spent a lot of time setting up playlists that I use for work that aren't in my main library.  What happened to the "on this ipod" button that was in the tool bar a week and a half ago?  Is there a new route to get to view my ipod content?  I have spent a lot of time trying to figure this out and now I'm just getting angry.  I buy apple products because they are supposed to be straight forward and easy to use... is this changing?

Go to the View menu and turn on the Status Bar. If you don't see the menus, go to the small icon with the arrow at the extreme upper left and select "Show Menu Bar":

    Hi There
You can only transfer purchased music from your iPod to iTunes using iTunes. However there are third party utilities that you can use to retrieve your music, just do a google search or have a look on http://www.versiontracker.com
    Hope this helps

  • Please help - how do I import music from my ipod into a new itunes library?

    Hello
I would very much appreciate it if someone could tell me how to get the music from my old ipod mini into the new itunes library on my new laptop.
The mini was previously sync'd with my old PC which died so my files are only present on the ipod. Upon loading itunes, the software is only letting my sync the ipod providing I wipe it (obviously not desirable...)
    Thanks for any support, Andy

Connect your iPod to your computer. When you get the message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" as you already know will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod to a computer
The transfer of content from other sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes

    iPod2PC Windows Only
    iGadget Windows Only
    iDump Windows Only
    SharePod Windows Only
    iRepo Mac and Windows
    iPodRip Mac & Windows
    YamiPod Mac and Windows
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows
There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows or a Mac. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • How do I get music from my iPod to my new itunes account on a different computer?

I can't get the music on my Ipod onto my new computer.  Everytime I try and sync my Ipod to get my music into my music library, a first notice comes up saying "This Ipod is synced with another Itunes library.  An Ipod can be synced with only one Itunes library at a time."  I click the button that says "Transfer Purchases."  But then another notice comes up sayiing that I can't transfer the music onto this computer because I'm not authorized for them on this computer.  I'm frustrated because I've gone and authorized the computer multiple times, but it still doesn't work.   I can't even call the Apple support because it's been over 90 days since I purchased my Ipod.  Please help?

  • How can I put music on my iPod onto my new iTunes?

I have a bunch of music on my iPod, but I cannot copy it from my iPod onto my new current version of iTunes. I got the music from my old computer and old iTunes set up and now when I want to put the music from my iPod to my new computer iTunes, it isn't letting me. Is there a way that I can do this?

Music is intended to go one way: from your computer to the iPod. Going the other way is contrary to the design and is not trivial.
    See this old post: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2452022
Since it is so dated some of the links may not work.
iTunes will only give you the option to copy your iTunes Store purchases directly from an iPod to the computer, you'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
For everything else (music from CDs, other downloads etc) there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. • How do I sync my Ipod with a new Itunes after losing my old Itunes when my hard drive went out?

I had my itunes on one of my few computers that I have. The hard drive on the computer that I had my itunes on went out and I had to replace it, losing my itunes and other things, but I cared more about the itunes then I did with anything else. Now when I try to download itunes and try to sync my ipod, it says that if I sync it, all music with be replaced, and I don't want that. How do I sync my ipod to that new itunes without losing all my songs?

I cant seem to sync the phone to the new itunes either, even though its the same apple id and password.

Once the Mac can see your Mac then you can use a program such as PhoneView (http://www.ecamm.com/mac/phoneview/) to see the content of you iPhone and transfer it to the Mac.
Did the Mac die or did the HD die? If the issue is the Mac then you should be able to remove the HD and install in an external case to transfer the content to the new Mac.

An iPod can only sync all media from the one iTunes library/computer yo can have. You have two choices:
    - May this computer your one syncing computer.

    gnemati,
    Welcome to Discussions.
You can use Senuti or iPodRip to transfer the songs from the iPod to the computer.
They might not get all playlists back, but they do get all music files.
    Hope this helps.

  • How to sync my music from my ipod with my new hard drive without any lose my music on my ipod?

Bonjour, hi, I have a question. My hard drive broke and I lost all my music when I reconnect my iPod, iTunes tells me that if I sync with my ipod, I lost all the music on my ipod ... and replace my music with the music on iTunes (I have no music on iTunes). What can i do?
    Thanks you.

Restore the media on the new computer using the backup of your media from your old computer.
The iPod, like all iDevices is not a storage device, it is merely a mirror of the content in your iTunes library.
    If not backup exists:
On the new computer, sign into your iTunes account and Authorize the computer.
Cconnect the iPod but do not sync.
    Select File > Transfer purchases.
Any media not purchased from iTunes or ripped from CD's will be lost, but at least you will retain your iTunes purchases.
