Manually switching graphics card on T410S (with switchable graphics)??

Hi - does anyone know if it is possible to manually control what graphics card to use?
I can set it in the power plan options, but I want to set it manually too. I might need to use internal graphics even if I have power on, or the discrete graphics on battery, and that is not reflected weill in the "timed" options you get through the Power Plan.  There is no way to set it with the Notification Area icon, or through the Nvidia control panel :-/
regards
Lars

It probable just needs a good switch "kick" in the nvram noggin' is all!
Try zapping pram/nvram or open firmware. Any drivers for Radeon are part of OS X.
You could look on ATI but I don't think you need these.

  • [p7-1240] How can I tell which graphics cards will work with my motherboard?

I recently went through the nightmare of trying to install a Gigabyte GTX 650 in my PC. After a few days of struggling and scouring the internet for answers, I discovered that it is incompatible with the BIOS on my motherboard, and HP does not offer BIOS updates. I returned the card and am now looking for a new one, but I am unsure of which cards will work now, since my computer met all of the system requirements for the graphics card, and It stil ldid not work. Since GPU manufacturers do not list BIOS specs under system requirements, how can I tell if a graphics card will work with my sytem?
My computer is a p7-1240 with an upgraded 520W PSU and approximeately 11" of room to install the card.

    Thexn, welcome to the forum.
The problem is, many of the newer video cards require the computer to have a full UEFI BIOS.  HP began using one in mid-October, 2012.  Before this date the BIOS is Legacy.  This is why the video card didn't work with your computer.
I don't know what you want to spend for a card, but MSI makes a GTX 750ti that has a hybrid VBIOS.  It has a switch to change to Legacy or UEFI.  There is a video link directly below the picture of a card.  Paul from Newegg gives a full description of the card.
I like EVGA cards the best.  Their Tech Support has given me a lot of information about their cards.  However, you have to go back to a GT 640 card to find one of their cards that doesn't require the UEFI BIOS.  They do have some updates for their BIOS'es that solve the problem, but you have to call them for the exact cards.

    Hi:
    That is an old model.
The specs state it has onboard (integrated graphics).
If you are sure it is just the graphics that is kaput (you would know that if you hear Windows boot up and the logon music sounds or something) then...
I would get a used Dell Radeon HD 2400 on eBay which should work just fine for you, but you will need to have a monitor with a DVI connection and a DVI cable.
This is the cheapest one I could find.

  • Problem with switchable graphic cards after installing windows 10

Dear support, after installing windows 10 i lost option to switch my graphic cards. I already have installed new drivers for win10 64-bit. But it doesn't work. New drivers which i downloaded here: http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/desktop?os=Windows+10+-+64 doesn't support my graphic card. So i don't know what to do to get right drivers and be able to switch my graphic cards. Thanks for any help.

    Hi there
Welcome to the HP Support Forums! It is a great place to find the help you need, both from other users, HP experts and other support personnel. I understand that you installed Windows 10 and that switchable graphics is not working for you. I am happy to help. Unfortunately this is not something that AMD can help with, as it is a customized driver for your notebook. Did you do the Windows 10 installation as an upgrade and if so which operating system did you upgrade from? The existing HP drivers can be found here: HP Pavilion g6-1004ev Notebook PC but they are for Windows 7 or 8 depending on your choices. You could try those and install it using compatibility mode and see if that works. How to: Install and Update drivers in Windows 10 - answers.microsoft.com Let me know if that works for you.

  • Graphics card upgrade T410

    Hi!
    Brief introduction:
    Skill level ultranewb
    Computer model Lenovo Thinkpad T410
    OS Windows 7/64bit
    Ok, heres the problem:
I have recently discovered that my current graphics card is not capable of running newer games such as Battlefield 3. This is a problem.
I would like to switch from my Intel(R) HD Graphics Card to a suprior piece of hardware,
Clearly, I will need driver updates, I will need to know how to access the actual hardware location, I will need a compatible model to order, and I will need to be able to put everything back the way it was in case it doesnt work.
Can anyone help me please? I know nothing about graphics cards or their drivers. If someone could link me to an apropriate graphics card and a driver to go with it, I would be greatly in his/her dept.
Also: Will my computer even boot if it doesnt have the right software for the graphics card? Or am I going to switch it out and then have the screen come up blue or black?
    Thanks so verry much,
    Liam.

There are external express-card slot attaced options for a second video card. They really aren't tailord at the noob - as they tend to be touchy to get working really well but they are out there.  They also don't run really high-end cards, but should work with say an AMD HD 7750.  In most cases, if you want to game in high-resolution and detail, you don't want to be doing it on a laptop.  Even the top-end workstations like a W520 won't do that well compared to a mid-range $800 tower with a $150 to 200 graphic card like a HD 6870.

    Hi tt_ttf,
I did a quick test on the T400 with switchable GPU... Upgraded video driver to 8.792.50, PM to 3.64 and PM Driver to 1.64... Rebooted the laptop several times during installation then switch to energy saver then high performance GPU several times and it worked fine ...
Can you try uninstalling the GPU driver and see if it helps?

  • LAPTOP Dual Graphics Card CPU scailing (with bash script)

Hey all, basically, getting Arch working with my laptop was a pain due to the lack of power options and graphics control, especially using the open source drivers. My laptop would overheat due to both the dedicated and integrated graphs cards would be running at the same time and my CPUs were running at 100%. After a long while of looking around, I finally found a solution, and being the nice guy I am, I decided to make a script to streamline the process for most people. It mounts the debugging filesystem, adds it to fstab, installs the necessary tools, loads the correct module, and also lets you change power plans, as well as check on battery, graphics card status, and cpu status. this is basically version one so i guess ill add a bit to it over time.
*** MAKE SURE KMS IS ENABLED ON YOUR KERNEL GRUB/SYSLINUX LINE EG:  "radeon.modset=1"
    ******ERROR CHECKING:
if you have the debug fs mounted already, unmount it with umount /sys/kernel/debug
if you get an error modprobing, check what modules are supported from your cpu with  ls /lib/modules/$(uname -r)/kernel/drivers/cpufreq/
with the debugging fs mounted, running cat /sys/kernel/debug/vgaswitcheroo/switch to find out what your graphic adapters are named and if needed replace the IGD and DIS with yours
you may have to modify some parts of the program, but i tried my best to make it as easy as I can

copy it and save it as foo.sh
chmod 777 it for good measures

Thats great, thank you.  I have an older Dell Studio XPS 13 which has NVIDIA Hybrid SLI.  Its current power usage in Arch is killing me (about an hour and a half, where as i can get 3-4 hrs in win7).  Right now I am doing all the work through the integrated graphics card, per my xorg.conf, but i dont think i've managed to disable the discrete card yet. When I get on the laptop I'll let you know how it goes.

I tried connecting my external monitor to the DVI output of the Mini Dock and it did not work.  I have since connected it with no issus to the VGA output.
However, I want to use the digital (DVI) connection for my monitor........how can i fix this issue?
NOTE: I have a T410 with the integrated graphics so my laptop screen does not display while docked (I keep the lid closed).

    Hi MarkinIt,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community!
As per the query we understood that you are facing issue with no Display when connected to docking station on your ThinkPad T410.
Have you checked updating the Intel graphic driver from Lenovo support site?
Please provide the current Graphic driver version showing in device manager.
Is the system having Windows 7 or Windows 8 OS?
    Hope this helps.
