Manually updating iPod - Does it update star ratings as well?

I just bought a brand new 5G iPod, and decided to manually update it. So I have to click and drag songs to it. My question is when I connect the iPod, will iTunes automatically update any play counts / star ratings I've added to songs on my iPod, or do I have to do something special in order for those to transfer?

No, it won't.... not if you're using manual updates.
This only works if you are automatically updating your iPod.

  • Does DNG store star ratings info? + other questions...

    Hey guys,
Finally got V1 downloaded and up and running after using B4 extensively for the past few months. Really been looking forward to this release and the added features are just what I have been after.
My old library was imported but the folders are a real mess as I expected.
I want to start a fresh library but keep my star ratings and image corrections if possible. I thought of converting all of my RAW files to DNG, then starting a new library and importing my entire collection of images again. Do the DNG files store star rating info? I was using stars as part of my deletion workflow... so there are many files that are one star which need deletion.
This brings me to my next couple of questions.
    - how do I filter by star rating - it was quite easy in B4
    - how do I delete a file to the trash can... can't quite figure it out. In B4 I just selected the image and then ctrl-backspace.
Thanks to the guys who are answering all these questions...
    Kev.

  • My ipod does not appear in computer as well as itunes, what should i do? but its charging perfectly.

    I checked
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1369 & http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1363 but its of no use. I tried to connect in a another laptop too. but of no use.

I see you tried another laptop but try a different USB cable as well.

  • Does putting ipod on manual update

Does putting your iPod on manual update mean that I can put the songs on my laptop on it, and then go to my desktop computer and put those songs on it without deleting what was on it already?

Yes it does. If you want to connect and use an iPod on more than one computer you need to change the update preference in the iPod Summary tab to "Manually manage music and videos" and click Apply. In this mode you can directly access the content of the iPod and play it through iTunes and you can drag and drop whatever you want to the iPod from either library:
    Using iPod with Multiple computers
    Managing content manually on iPod
    iPod 101: Fill 'er Up
Something else to be aware of when using an iPod in manual mode is that the "Do Not Disconnect" message will remain on the display until you physically eject the device: Safely Disconnect IPod

  • Can I manually update my Ipod instead of it automatically doing it?

Does anyone know how to do that?

If you want to manage it manually then connect your iPod and click on the iPod icon in the iTunes source list to bring up the preference tabs in the main pane. In the Summary tab check the box "manually manage music and videos" and click Apply. Once your iPod is in manual mode you just drag and drop songs and playlists etc. from your iTunes library:
    Managing content manually on iPod
    iPod 101: Fill 'er Up
Something to remember about using an iPod in manual mode is that the "Do Not Disconnect" message will remain on the display until you physically eject the device. In that case use the Safely Remove Hardware icon in the Windows system tray on the desktop and check this link for alternative methods:: Safely Disconnect IPod

  • How do I set iTunes to manually update songs without connecting iPod first?

Hi. I just got a new computer and downloaded iTunes. The User Guide says that when you connect the iPod, iTunes automatically updates all songs in your iTunes and deletes songs that are not in iTunes. As far as I can see by reading the User's Guide, iPod has to be connected to change the setting to "manual update". I already have an iPod with songs in it that are not on the iTunes that I just downloaded. I'm afraid that if I connect my iPod, it will erase the songs already in my iPod because of the default "automatic update" setting. Does anyone know how I can change the setting to "manual update" BEFORE I connect the iPod to the computer?
    Thanks for your help!

  • Sync Play count between iPod & iTunes when manually update selected

    Hello,
I use manual updating on iTunes simply because I have so much music, it wont fit onto my iPod, so I manually select the songs I want on.
I have been reading and find that doing this stops the iPod and iTunes from updating the Play count and Last played. Doesnt this sound a bit daft?
People have played suggestions such as creating certain playlists that are automatically synced with the iPod, but my songs are all in playlists.
Is there any addon or way that you can get the iPod and iTunes to automatically sync that part so it updates? Without turning on automatic syncing?
    Thanks

Playcounts only sync if you are syncing. They don't if you're manually managing your music. Sorry.

  • Manual update - how do I add album art to songs that are already in ipod?

I recently changed to manual update as the auto update started to take a ridiculously long time to even recognize my 60gb.
I wanted to add album art to an album that was already in my ipod. I updated the songs in itunes, and then dragged them to the ipod when it was listed in itunes.
Itunes said "updating songs" - and I ended up with two copies of each song.
I deleted the duplicates from the ipod, but surely there must be an easier way.
So how does one properly update information on existing songs with manual update?
    60gb video     latest itunes

The easiest way to do this kind of thing probably would be to either make the alterations (album artwork, lyrics, etc.) on your iPod's songs themselves, not the iTunes library songs. (Click on the little arrow to the left of your iPod's name in the Source List of iTunes, so show/hide. Click on the "Music" library under your iPod to see it's songs displayed in iTunes.)
When you've gotten in the "Music" library, under your iPod's name in iTunes, you can select the songs here that you want to change, and click on "Get Info".
    Or, you could do this:
1 - Make the changes to the iTunes Library songs.
2 - Go to your iPod's Music area in iTunes.
3 - Delete the current songs off your iPod that will be replaced with the "modified" version of the track (that has additional or altered info on it.)
4 - Now, go back to the iTunes Library. Select those new changed songs, and drag them to your iPod.

  • If your ipod is set for manual update, how do you add playlists?

If your ipod is set for manual update, how do you create and add playlists to the ipod?

Thanks! I have several ipod books and they told me about manually updating songs but not playlists. That tutorial is VERY helpful. I assume that if you manually update the playlist, all the songs contained in it would have had to been previously manually updated to the ipod....to say it another way, updating the playlist does not transfer any songs. Am I correct?

  • IPod Mini problems with 2nd computer (Manual Updating)

The laptop I had been using to update my IPod Mini now doesn't let me use ITunes (firewall issues). So, I am now using a desktop.
On the desktop, I have installed ITunes and IPod Updater. The connection seems to be working fine because my Ipod was updated.
I purchased a few songs on ITunes and they will not download onto the IPod. I have it set for manual update (so not to lose all of my other music!) and am clicking and dragging. Yet, when I check my IPod's screen, no new music.
Under File, "Update IPod" is in grey and is not an active option for me to select.
What am I doing wrong? How do I get the new songs on my IPod?

keep us posted on the desktop. we have a number of techniques for getting itunes to open if it's being interfered with by security software.
In the meantime, I just emailed tech support about Deauthorizing that laptop. Do you think that could be my problem?
good point. try playing those songs for a few seconds in itunes on the laptop. (sometimes itunes doesn't realise that they are authorised until you do that.)
do they drag to the ipod properly then?

  • Cannot delete songs from iPod when in manual update mode

    Hi
I am using iTunes 7 and i'm trying to delete some songs just from my iPod and i have always used the manual update option.
The problem is when i go into the songs on my iPod and go into a playlist and try to delete the songs within a playlist it won't let me. BUT when i search for those same songs within my iPod library (library shows all songs on the iPod) i can delete them.
So my problem is i cannot delete songs within playlists just from my iPod. I know that deleting the playlist on the left hand side navigation bar will still keep the songs there, it will only delete the actual playlist.
Also when i select a song(s) the edit menu is all greyed out except for copy.
    Can anyone help please.

Try using the key combination Shift-Delete when deleting from a song from a playlist, this will delete it from the library as well.

  • Using a second computer with an ipod set to manual update

I want to prevent my ipod 60GB video which is set to manual update on my G5 from being updated when I plug it into my powerbook. The powerbook assumes the ipod is available for auto update. How do I mount the iPod without iTunes automatically replacing its contents. I can't "preset" iTunes in its preferences to treat the iPod as a manual drive as it just says: "no iPod connected. As soon as I attach the iPod the auto update starts. Are there keystrokes to interrupt the update so I can set the iPod preferences on my Powerbook?
    Thanks

Hold down the ⌥ and ⌘ keys while connecting your iPod. Keep them down until iTunes has opened and your iPod shows in the Source list.

My ipod touch has a permanent image of the end of a USB cable with an arrow pointing to an icon of ITunes. I can't reset using the two button method, and ipod does not appear on itunes when I plug it into the computer - and nothing else happens either.  This happened after I agreed to a software update which failed.  How can I get it going again?

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

    Folks,
agter upgrading to iLife 06 the update of my iPod does not work. I get the message that iTunes cannot write or read to this disk.
I had iTunes 6.02 before the update and everything worked fine.
IPod is an 60GB photo with newesr firmware.
    Thanks

You may have an Ownership & Permissions problem on your iPod.
Select your iPod on the desktop and Get Info (command-I).
Set the permissions to 'You can Read & Write'. Expand 'Details:' and click 'Apply to enclosed items...'.
Tick the checkbox 'Ignore ownership on this volume'.
If your iPod does not show up on the desktop, you have to 'Enable disk use' in Prefernces>iPod (iTunes preferences)
    Hope this helps.
