  • Updating iPod nano Manually-How do you do it?

I am trying to update my iPod manually. The instructions say to "Open iTunes and select iPod nano in the Source list", but iPod nano does NOT appear in my Source list. Is this possible and how do I get it to appear, so I can use properly. Thanks

  • CANNOT UPDATE IPOD NANO

I have an Ipod Nano and I have songs on my Itunes that my daughter has downloaded previously to her Ipod and I also imported CD's that I want to put on and I keep getting the message that the songs on my Ipod cannot be updated because all of the playlists selected for updating no longer exist. Can anybody help me? I am going nuts trying to figure this out. Thank you!!

In iTunes, go to Edit>Preferences>iPod (tab) and which is selected of these three?:
    - Automatically update all songs and playlists
    - Manually manage songs and playlists
    - Automatically update selected playlists only
I'm assuming it's of the latter (Automatically update selected playlists only) but the ones that are checked are not there anymore.

  • Pc not updating ipod nano

I have 2 ipods connected to my computer in different settings. I have 120 songs in nano library and 67 on the nano. It will not update. cannot drag them into ipod either. I have tried everything. Please help

To change your setting, make sure ipod is plugged in and go to edit / preferences / ipod and select manual update. Then you can drag and drop. Hope it works for you.
NOTHING is working for me... tried everything... brand new nano. downloaded cd track to library... auto update doesn't work; manual update doesn't work. Uninstalled all ipod/itunes/quicktime programs and reinstalled the most recent version from apple website. Songs in library will not load onto Nano.
Bummer. I have spent waaaay too much time trying to make your product work... also have used my one complimentary support (which took approx. 31/2 hours.)
I'm onboard with the idea of this technology but the technology is not up to par. Feeling let down!

  • Can't update ipod nano: errors 1417 and 1428

I bought my 4gb iPOD nano a month or so ago and initially it worked perfectly. For the last week when I plug it in to my PC iTunes detects it and lists what's on it but won't update it or write to it in any way: it variously gives me error numbers 1417 and 1428. Bizzarely I can copy files onto it absolutely fine through Windows. I can't even restore it to factory settings since I can't write anything to it! Help!
    Thanks very much

  • Can't update iPod Nano

while the ipod is connected and showing up in the itunes source list, go "edit > preferences" and click on the "ipod" tab.
you will currently have "automatically update selected playlists only" selected. compare the list of playlists beneath that setting with the playlists that are showing up in your sourcelist. if you find any that don't currently exist in the itunes sourcelist, uncheck them.

  • How to manually update ipod?

I have chosen the option to 'Manually manage music and videos'. Previously I updated my ipod by dragging new songs from my itunes library and dropping them in my ipod library. However, since I have updated to itunes 7, I can no longer see my ipod library on itunes, instead I only see the summary of my ipod. How can I manually update the ipod?

Next to the iPod (on the left) there should be a little disclosure triangle.
Click on it so that it points down.
Underneath your ipod you should now see the word "music". Click on that.
Now do you see the songs on your iPod?

  • Unable to restore or update ipod nano (1st gen)

hello, I just upgraded to itunes 7 and it told me there is an update to 1.2 for the ipod. I cannot get it to update. as soon as I click update, the "do not disconnect" message disappears from the ipod and eventually it goes to sleep. The computer says "updating ipod." I have left it on all night with no change.
    Things I have tried:
-the 5 R's (restore ipod didn't work, does the exact same thing as when I try to udate it.)
-changing the drive letter for the ipod.
-removing itunes completely for a fresh reinstall.
    Can anyone help?

I have a similar problem and can't figure out how to
    post a new topic =(
When I first got my iPod, I put a whole bunch of
songs on it (not nearly enough to fill it though).
Then I let my (now ex) boyfriend use it while he
worked out, and his friend attempted to add more
songs to it.. which deleted all my songs and replaced
them with his. Now I have it back and can't figure
out how to put my songs back on it. I don't really
want to delete all the songs he put on it, I just
want to put mine back on but I can't figure out how.
    Please help, anyone?
hehe the only thing that is similar is that you have a problem too.
If you go into the options in itunes you can tell it to manually sync your ipod (do this before you plug your ipod in!) Then you can simply drag the songs from your library to your ipod to add them to what is already in your ipod.
Now to update the problem I posted about: I formatted the ipod from disk manager in winXP and now when I try to restore the ipod, itunes disconnects the ipod, reconnects it, and then does nothing but display a window that it is restoring the ipod. I don't get anything on the screen of my ipod except "Do not disconnect". I am going to try leaving it on all night.
The only thing different from what was happening before is that now it is reconnecting the ipod to windows after it disconnects it. From reading the instructions, however, I think I should be seeing a progress bar on my ipod.

  • Manually updating iPod on seperate comp

Question, can I update my iPod with songs on a comp that is not my home one? I selected 'Manual Update', but if it'll still delete my songs that aren't in the Library, I don't wanna do anything. If the songs get deleted, I'll be in big trouble, cause I'm far away from home, and I still have a month left til I get back. I'm guessing that 'Manual Update' won't affect any of my current songs, but I just want some assurance.
    Thanks -
    J4mmer

as long it is in manual update mode before you plug it in, you will be fine. it will not delete any of your songs if it is in manual. you will be able to drag and drop files into your ipod without any problems.

  • Manually Updating iPod

If my iPod is set to automatically update when I connect to my computer, how can I change the setting to manually update instead. I have music that is no longer on my computer, but is on my iPod, and I don't want the iPod to ersase the songs on it when I connect to the computer.

You'll eventually want to Transfer music manually
But first, you'll want to Keep iTunes from automatically updating your iPod
    Another Easier Alternative:
While connecting the iPod to the computer, hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys in Windows (CMD + Option keys on a Mac). This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes. The iPod will then appear in the iTunes source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto-sync and then you can release the keys. This action may take between 3 and 25 seconds depending on your computer.
You can then ‘right-click‘ on the iPod icon in iTunes’ source column and select iPod Options, then check the box that says “Manually manage songs and playlists”. You can now manage your library without losing any songs on the iPod.
Note: If connecting to a different computer than the ‘iPod’s Home Computer’, iTunes will ask you if you want to update your iPod and give you an opportunity to opt out. This will not happen if you connect to the ‘Home’ computer – iTunes will auto-sync without warning!. Best to know the difference.

  • Manually updating iPod - Does it update star ratings as well?

I just bought a brand new 5G iPod, and decided to manually update it. So I have to click and drag songs to it. My question is when I connect the iPod, will iTunes automatically update any play counts / star ratings I've added to songs on my iPod, or do I have to do something special in order for those to transfer?

when I connect the iPod, will iTunes automatically update any play counts / star ratings I've added to songs on my iPod
No, it won't.... not if you're using manual updates.
This only works if you are automatically updating your iPod.

  • Manually Updating iPod on two versions of i tunes

I use i-Tunes 7 in work and an earlier version at home. Since updating my iPod manually in work I have been unable to drag any music on to my iPod at home. The music is from my own CD collection so it is not purchased and both versions are set to manually update. When I try and drag the folder I get a circle with a line through it as if this is not allowed. Is this because i have an earlier version at home? Is there any way around this as i dont have an internet connection at home.

as long it is in manual update mode before you plug it in, you will be fine. it will not delete any of your songs if it is in manual. you will be able to drag and drop files into your ipod without any problems.

It sounds like you want to know how to manually manage the music and playlists on your iPod nano. The article below provides more information about automatic and manual syncing of content to your device, and it will walk you through the process.
