Many Languages in an iOs App

Hi,
Sorry for my bad English, I'm French !
I'm making an iPad game with Flash and Air. You can see the flash here : http://thomas-ruffier.com/divers/lebebepoulpe/
The home screen is in French, and i want to translate in many languages.
But how can I get the device language ? I want to change the homescreen for an English/German iPad.
Is it possible ?
Thanks a lot.

Did you try the Capabilities.language? It returns two letters code for the most common languages (http://help.adobe.com/en_US/FlashPlatform/reference/actionscript/3/flash/system/Capabiliti es.html).

  • Need help with languages issue in iOS app created in Flash Pro CS5.5

    Hello all,
I'm using Flash Pro CS5.5 on a Mac running Snow Leopard to create an iOS app by publishing with 'AIR for iOS' from inside Flash Pro. Everything works great except after I submit my app to the Apple App Store and it is approved, the App Store listing claims that the app is available in a ton of different languages including English, German, Chinese, Italian, Spanish, etc. Since this app is a word game and all the words are in English, this is a pretty significant issue.
If I view the binary details for the app in iTunes Connect, it shows that localizations are active for all of the different languages. This information is read from the .ipa file that is submitted.
If I unzip the .ipa file, I can see that folders have been created for all of the localizations (i.e. en.lproj, es.lproj, fr.lproj, etc.). If I delete any of those folders, the .ipa will give me a 'resources modified' error at install.
I have also tried setting the plist attribute 'CFBundleLocalizations' to 'English' by editing the 'app.xml'. I have verified that the attribute has been changed correctly but it does not solve the issue. All of the localizations are still active.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Can you try workaround given at http://forums.adobe.com/message/3976641 and post back your findings.

  • Which programming language do we use for ios apps?

    Hello,
I would like to know which programing language do professional ios app developers use for apps which work with an integrated database. I thought firstly about C# but recently Ruby has come into my attention as a good app development language.
    Thank you very much.

Since you mentioned Ruby, there is the RubyMotion toolchain, which can be used to develop applications for iOS, OS X, and Android.  It isn't free, but then again you won't have to use Objective-C or Swift (or even Xcode for that matter).  You will still need to be able to at least read Objective-C/Swift/Java/whatever, since that is what the various API documentation is written for.

  • How do I localize Flash CS5.5 iOS app to one language

What method or process do I use to set an iOS app to only one language?
I recently had an iPad app written in Flash CS5.5 approved at the iTunes app store. I noticed at the iTunes store, it indicates that my app is localized in 14 different languages. I never set this up; it seems that there is a process that automatically adds several default language localizations to the ipa binary when the file is published. I tried the strings panel, used a var to set the localID, went into the SDK for flex and flash builder and deleted the locales (could not find anything similar for Flash itself), but none of this seems to prevent Flash from adding the language defaults. I have found many examples on how to localize my app for several languages, but nothing on how to set it to only one.
    Thanks much, Jon

Well, I followed the iOS language list in iTunes thread   in this forum and was able to get rid of them all. I have to say that not any single reply in the thread was exactly right. It took a combination of Saumitra Bhave's and spinlight's replies and mass of trial and error to get it all to work. Even the App loader utility came up as obsolete! I have uploaded the updated binary to Apple and am awaiting their approval. The biggest issue is the placement of and actual coding in the entitlements plist; spinlight had the right idea, but, at least in my case, was coded out a bit different. Also, it was not exactly apparent that you had to use the teminal untility to recodesign the app after tearing it apart. Thank the heavens I have a least a basic understanding of how things work on the Mac and was able to puzzle it out. If Apple approves the app and all things look good, I will follow up here with what I did. Of course, if Adobe would kill this bug with a giant can of bug spray, this crazy work around wouldn't be needed...
    Thanks much,  Jon

  • Flash iOS App Languages on iTunes

After publishing my Flash iOS App to iTunes I see huge array of languages, even though my game is only in English. In my descriptor, I only provided an English name and description.
Languages: English, Chinese, Czech, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Swedish, Turkish
Is there a way to remove these or add other languages that are not on this list?
I understand its not possible via iTunesConnect its something inside the binary file.

I am working on window 7 - if rename the binary file to ZIP and open it, removing the XX.lproj folders - would that do the trick?
I see the "_CodeSignature/CodeResources" file is also related to the XX.lproj folders
Should i just not tuch it and wait for the fix?
    Thanks for your advice.

  • HP ePrint iOS app no longer finds Photosmart C4780 after app update

I have an HP Photosmart C4780 connected through WiFi to my network but sadly it's not supported by AirPrint on iDevices.
So, I was using HP ePrint Home & Biz iOS app (version 4.1) which was very useful for me as it found the printer and allowed me to print from my iPad/iPhone.
Today I updated the app on my iPhone to version 5 (now simply named "HP ePrint" on the App Store) and after the update, the new version doesn't find my Photosmart C4780 anymore. I did the Activation thing on the iPhone, as it was requested to refresh the list of printer on my network in the All tab, but after Refresh no printer is found.
Still I have the old 4.1 on my iPad (and hopefully in my iTunes library) and the printer is located, I assume, through mDSN as it shows the name specified for this setting.
So, question is: Did you dropped support for Photosmart C4780 on 5.0 release of HP ePrint iOS app? If so, why did't you informed this appropriately on the app update text description in the App Store? A message like "some printers may not be supported anymore" would have been helpul.
If HP ePrint should find Photosmart C4700 series printers and this is an issue, how should we proceed from here?
    Thanks.

    WilliamBPS,
I was not informed that support was removed from the app for certain printers. It may have been lost in the transition to the new updated app. I will deffinitly pass this information along as it is very important that the app supports as many printers as it can. I'll go ahead and take note of your printer model. If I find anything out about this, I'll try to give you an update in this thread.

  • Sync iOS Apps to iTunes - Questions on how exactly this works...

I'm going to put my questions up top, but my understanding of the current system is below, and may be relevant to the questions, if you'd like to read through it.
How can I back up / restore a SINGLE app, including its data (e.g. a game save file), to either iTunes or the cloud... or anything else for that matter. Does syncing an app to iTunes serve this purpose?
What IS the purpose of syncing an iOS app to iTunes? Does this sync include the data stored on my iOS device? For example, if I have a game in which I've made progress, is this progress stored on both my iPhone and my Mac once I've synced the app to iTunes?
If data IS synced along with the app, how is this data managed? Say I have two iPhones, both with the same game but different progress in each. If I sync iPhone A with iTunes, then sync iPhone B, will iPhone A's data overwrite iPhone B's? Or are there two versions of this app floating around on my mac?
If data is NOT synced along with the app, why on earth would I want a bunch of huge storage-hogging iOS apps that are identical to what I could download from the App Store taking up GIGABYTES of space on my MacBook's SSD?
And finally, should the answer to question 4 be "there is no reason to store 42GB worth of useless apps on your 256GB SSD alongside your already gigantic iOS device backup files," how would I go about removing these apps stored in iTunes without iTunes trying to delete them from my iOS device every time I want to sync some TV shows or podcasts?
    My Understanding So Far:
Of the many things Apple has addressed and improved upon over the years, backing up iOS app data has strangely not been one of them. As I understand it, the only way to back up an app, including its data (e.g. the save data for a game), is to do a FULL backup of the ENTIRE device. The only way to restore an app, including the data that you backed up, is to restore the ENTIRE device, all other apps included, to a previous state.
The driving force behind these questions is that I'd like the option to delete an app from my iPhone when I'm finished with it - but I'd also like the option to re-download it in the future and pick up where I left off. In a perfect world, all these apps would automatically sync through iCloud or GameCenter, or at least have that option to "upload to iCloud" or "restore from iCloud." Even with these apps, I'm not entirely sure where the backed up files exist - somewhere on my iCloud drive separate from my iPhone backup, photos, contacts, etc? Is there a way to see a list of apps that are storing things in my iCloud drive, and even manage this data?
So if I wanted to back up an app's data that does NOT automatically back up to iCloud, it seems my only option would be to install one of the many 3rd party Mac <-> iOS data transfer apps, and copy the contents of the "Documents" folder to a designated directory on my Mac. Then I could delete the app off my iPhone. Say in the future I re-download the app - I'd use the same data transfer app to copy the backed-up data to the re-downloaded app's Documents folder, and we're back in business. The only downside is that if it's been a while and the app has undergone updates, this backed-up data might be corrupt or no longer relevant. Plus, it's kind of a hassle.
When I discovered iTunes was syncing my apps to my Mac, I thought it might be serving as a way to back up my apps, data included, to my computer. Okay, it seemed like a little overkill to sync the whole app along with the data, but when I discovered that you could UPDATE the apps within iTunes, I thought apple had solved the problem of storing backed-up data for out-of-date versions of an app - simply update the app in iTunes, it does what's necessary to your backed-up data, and when you want to put the app back on your iPhone, voila! Your old data's there, AND you've got the most recent version! But apparently this is not at all how iTunes app syncing works.
As I NOW understand it, when iTunes "syncs" an app to your Mac, it includes only the app's core data - the same as if you'd just downloaded it from the App Store, and it does so for EVERYTHING you've purchased, ever, whether or not it's on any of your iOS devices. I can see how this could be convenient if you live on a farm and want to restore an old app to your iPhone without an internet connection, but I don't think it's worth, unexaggerated, a FIFTH of my hard drive. Worse, I can't figure out how to get rid of them.
    TL;DR
So, if you're still with me, what is the purpose of iTunes App Sync, and if it's as useless as I think it is, how do I get rid of it for good?

You can upgrade to Snow Leopard and skip over Leopard, and only upgrade to Lion later if wanted/needed. snow Leopard specs/requirements below.

When googled for info, I only found tutorials about how to let xcode compile Objective-C with C++.
    Thanks for help.

C supports manipulation of pointers and casting of pointers, this implies that both Objective-C and C++ will be able to manipulate C data like arrays, structs ...
Objective-C has classes like NSData to read/write blocks of bytes from/to file and to access ranges of bytes when the data is loaded into memory.
C++ probably has similar classes (I'm not well versed in C++ so I don't know).
If you want to look into using C++ you will probably want to look at Objective-C++, the link below has links to docs on how to use C++ with Objective-C:
    http://stackoverflow.com/questions/3684112/what-is-objective-c
Thanks for the info, NSData does what I need.
A replied in the link also mentioned that he's using C++ in his application too. As long as I'm aware of memory management (prevent memory leaks, etc) as @disguise said, it should be fine.
@etresoft indeed, but C is the base language of ObjC, there are ways to deal with.

As major software releases go iOS 7 is amazing?  Many requests for support found on these boards are solved via advice related to How To Do Something.  Many times the advice is right out of the User Documentation provided by Apple.  If someone were to compare the number of critical issues reflected across these posts vs. most other major releases from any major vendor ...iOS 7 is excellent.

How come although iPads are getting more powerful, the iOS apps from apple are so mediocre and just not that great? We spend all this money for the latest ipad and all we get is these $5 video and music apps from apple. Why create the iOS platform and only offer so so apps like IMovie and GarageBand ? While other developers are offering much better apps like pinnacle studio for video, Cubasis and Auria for music production, apple has not showed much growth in terms of innovation. While there's nothing wrong with making an app like GarageBand where "anyone " can make a song, how about something for real musicians or an app not so basic as it get for video editing? After spending 0ver $700 on an ipad I'd be willing to spend more than $5 for a better video or audio app.

First, try a system reset although I can't give you any confidence.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.

  • How to install AIR 3.6 SDK in FB 4.7 without breaking iOS apps

i downloaded the the Air 3.6 SDK with compiler from the labs website, unpacked it on mac, put the contents into the AIRSDK folder under the com.adobe.flash.compiler... folder as specified.
relaunch FB 4.7, and it shows that the AIR SDK is now 3.6.  update my name space to use 4.6, can compile and run no problem in AIR simulator, HOWEVER, the minute i try to export an IOS app, or run in IOS simulator or do anything with IOS, it craps out and i get the mess age"AIR For Apple IOS support in Flash Builder is not support", which means something is wrong, and of course it points me to instructions for FB 4.5 which are inapplicable....
this is extremely frustrating for me, because i am hitting a nasty bug in AIR 3.5 and hoping that adobe has fixed the iOS app generator bug that i am encountering in AIR 3.5 where my final apps just show a blank screen and don't run at all... yet work fine in the AIR and IOS simulators...
hoping someone else has wrestled with this. How come only a few people have had this problem, and nobody has reported a solution.
would be nice if Adobe put some effort into reducing the number of files inside FB... it is over 25,000 files, and i gotta say, that is sloppy work to have so many files and therefore thousands of dependencies. Each dependency is a link that potentially can break. Far better to use collections of files that cannot be broken.
And the update process should be no more than replacing a folder and restarting FB. I have spent 10 hours trying to get this to work, any help towards a solution would be greatly appreciated.

Did you try the newly released SDK from official page, rather than labs? I would also suggest running FB with Java 1.6, if you have it on Java 1.7 - FB4.7 is known to yield some quirks with new java VMs.
Flash Builder is developed on top of Eclipse platform, which is basically a pluggable architecture - nothing wrong with that. Number of files do not really affect the overall application performance. In general you should not touch that, unless you really know what you doing and can manage all the dependencies on your own. I agree, though, that's is quite unfortunate that Adobe decided to hide the AIR SDK deep inside plugins, instead dragging it out to a top-level folder, where it's visible and available for change. It was possible with Flex SDK configured externally, so why not here?

  • What iOS apps access PDF files in the cloud?

I know Goodreader sees the cloud. What other iOS apps can see PDF files in the apple cloud?

    thelittletoad wrote:
I know Goodreader sees the cloud. What other iOS apps can see PDF files in the apple cloud?
The cloud is not really a single thing remember.  Cloud computing and cloud storage are just generic terms for distributed computing and/or storage on a network accessable service.  There are many "cloud" storage options:
    iCloud
    Dropbox
    Box.net
    SugarSync
    4Shared
    Google Drive
    Skydrive
...and the list goes on growing every day
Many apps, like Goodreader, will work with some, many or all of these, ONCE you configure your account settings in the app itself. So you can create an account with whichever service or services you wish to use, and then start using that account to move your files to and from any and all apps that allow a connection to that service.
I use box.net primarily to store my pdf files, and I then connect to them from GoodReader, PDF Expert or iAnnotate, not to mention QuickOffice, or Goodnotes, or Documents by Readdle or whatever app I choose to read/edit/markup the pdf in.
You will need to download the pdf into each and every app you wish to use it in on the iPad, as with a few exceptions, apps cannot share content.  That's why you use the cloud (meaning nothing more than, online) storage as your master location for your documents.

  • Which product should i use to develop iOS apps ?

Hello, my name is Michael and i'm 10 years old. I got a new iMac for my birthday and thinking about developing iOS apps. Can you please tell me an honest program since there is so many scams out there. I have tried programs such as GameSalad and Corona, but you have to share your profits with GameSalad. And Corona won't let you develop apps unless you pay the 200 $\mth fee.
    Sincerely,
    your friend Michael.

You must be at least 18 to submit apps to the App Store.
if your dad (or another responsible adult) will sign up for a paid developer account and accept responsiblity for said account (and employ you as an 'employee'), then you could have your apps submitted to the App Store.

  • What kind of programming background do you need to start making iOS apps?

I have zero knowledge of programming. I have done programming about 7 years ago and it was extremely basic stuff and mostly to do with C. I have learnt BASIC language (wonder if its even worth mentioning) in school!! But, I really want to program. Even if it takes a long time. How do I get started??

Your question "What kind of programming background do you need to start making iOS apps?" does not have a single answer. Thanks to the internet, nowadays its possible to start from zero. You can find an answer for even the most basic question on the internet. It just a question of time and effort. If you have
    the time
    no pressing deadline and a
    high frustration tolerance
just go ahead and do it.

  • Can the Macbook Air model MD760HN/B be used for developing iOS apps?

    Hi,
I'm planning to learn iOS Apps Development and I am planning to buy the Macbook Air Model - MD760HN/B.
My question is - Is this model fit enough to develop apps using XCode?
The retailer says the OS is Mac OS X Mavericks, there is no version written.
I am planning to develop using Swift Language so let me know if this is possible as well using the above stated Model Number.
Yes, I have created an Apple Developer Account already as an iOS Developer.
Looking forward for your valuable replies.
I hope Mac is better than Windows (using since Windows 95) - (Hate Windows 8)
    Thanks in advance.
    Samiruddin

This sounds to me like the MacBook Air mid-2013 model with a 13" display and core i5 processor built for sale in India.
Yes, this should be fine for writing Swift code.
The current Apple operating system is OS X Mavericks version 10.9.5.  If your computer comes with Mavericks installed, you can always update to the current version by opening the App Store and clicking "Updates" near the top right.
