Many, Many Problems after Installing Leopard

I installed leopard and about half way through i got installiation failed, after inspecting my disc i realized that it was scratched and thought, "I'll just be content with OS X 10.4". My computer took extra long to boot up, and... it went into leopard. I knew something was wrong.
PROBLEMS:
It went extremely slow
iChat would not open
Safari would not open
Photo Booth had tiger effects, not leopard.
Thats all i checked.
I tried re-installing, cleaning my disc, reinstalling again. No luck.
I dont have my restore discs. I do not want to use a computer with "Half a OS". And i don't want to pay $150 to get a new disc.
What can i do?

You have two options (maybe three):
1. Get replacement disks from Apple for your computer. You will
have to pay a nominal fee, mostly to cover shipping and handling.
2. Call apple, see if they will replace the Leopard disc.
3. Use a dvd recovery program to make a good copy of your scratched leo disk.
The only decent one I know of is a windows program called "isobuster".

    Hi!
I performed a Repair Permissions after installing Leopard. Firstly, I noticed that this procedure took a lot longer than before the upgrade. I also received the following error messages -

What does all this mean? How can I fix it?
    Thanks.

You suggest I reinstall all of Leopard and then update to 10.5.1?
No. Download and install the standalone 10.51 updater without reinstalling the entire OS.
I found 2 Remote Desktop updates (Client and Admin) - version 3.2. Are these for Leopard?
    Use the client version.
How will this help my problem?
Those are status messages. You don't have a problem.

  • FCP 6 problems after installing Leopard

Final Cut Studio 2 has worked fantastic for me on Tiger. Export to Compressor, Open with Soundtrack, and DVD authoring was awesome in DVD Studio Pro. Then I installed Leopard and started running into some problems. I really like Leopard in all that it offers, but I'm running into glitches and wondering if anyone else has either.
    1. Exporting to Compressor launches then stops.
    2. Launching DVD Studio Pro starts, then stops.
    3. Launching Soundtrack starts, then stops.
All the tool bars are up, but it none of them will finish launching. Never had these problems before and I downloaded and installed all the updates and the problems persist.
Has anyone else had these problems or found the solutions?
    Thanks.

Did you make a clean complete install (system and applications)? Everything must run fine if you install all from zero.
No matter that I personally would stay with Tiger in the G5: rock solid.
    Hope that helps !

  • "Blue Screen" problems after installing Leopard

So last night I installed Leopard and now I'm getting that 'Blue Screen' issue that persists after the white loading screen. I tried Solution 2 on the knowledge base article (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306857), which didn't work, so now I'm trying to reinstall. However, when I do, I'm told that I'll need 9.5gb of free space on my hard drive. I only have 3.5gb of free space on my hard drive because Leopard took up 9.5gb the FIRST time I installed it. Why would the install take ANOTHER 9.5gb for reinstalling what's already on it? Regardless, I cannot reinstall from the disk. Any help?

Also, if it helps to find a solution, I don't mind reformatting my hard drive as long as I can access and back up some files to either some DVDs or a network disk. (I don't have an external drive to plug in, but I can access some shared folders on my Windows PC). However, since I cannot access any sort of GUI filebrowser at the moment, this does not seem possible. Right now I'm considering finding a Linux distro for PowerPC which I can boot into, that way I can access my files and shoot them over to my PC.

  • Midi problems after installing Leopard

    Hi there,
I just installed Leopard and now my midi system is a mess.......I even cannot start the audio/midi configuration. Anyone familiar with this problem. I think it has to do something with midi driver conflict. I don't know how to remove and re-in stall midi drivers.....
    Please help!
    Hans

The Midi drivers are located here:
    HD/Library/Audio/Midi Drivers
So check what's in there, drag them all to your desktop and see if the Audio Midi setup opens. Then put the drivers back to that folder one by one and see which one is causing the trouble. Maybe a Digidesign driver?

  • Keyboard problems after installing Leopard

    Hi,
I have the new iMac 20'' obviously with the latest keyboard, after having installed Leopard, without upgrading, but installing the new OS deleting all old files, buttons from F1 to F19 are not the same as berfore.
Fiirst of all I can't control the volume any more, nor the iTunes "pause" "forward exc", nor brightness, nor dashboard...
Also F8 is used for Spaces, but F8 is for pause/play in iTunes.
Can anyone help me? It's so annoying!
    Ciao

Hmmm. You might want to check your Keyboard settings in System Preferences. Go to System Preferences > Keyboard & Mouse and then check under the "Keyboard" tab. Under the "Keyboard" tab, check to see if the checkbox labeled "Use all F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys" is checked. If it is, you have to hit the fn key and the appropriate F key to get the brightness, volume, etc. functions to work. Just uncheck the box if you don't want to hit the fn key in order to do these things.
    Hope this helps.

  • Several problems after installing leopard

Last week I bought a new hard drive (WD 250GB 5400rpm) so I put the older one on a external case and installed the new one. A couple of days later I bought leopard and installed that. I have since had several problems. Whenever I power on my computer with the usb external drive (that used to be my internal hd but I erased it but it is still a GUID partition map). It will freeze for about 30-45 seconds and when I am able to control the mouse again My external drive doesn't show up. Also with the hd plugged in photo booth will not work. I just get a black screen with a camera with a line in it. All of these troubles go away though if I power up the macbook without the drive plugged in. once I plug it in it is shown on my desktop. Can anyone help me?

  • Quicktime/flash problems after installing Leopard

I upgraded to Leopard today but now i get Quicktime Question mark appearing everywhere including youtube
    I have Quicktime Pro 7.2.1
The problem appears on both Firefox and safari
I've tried all the previous suggestions but no good.
    Any ideas?

I don't have Leopard but the QuickTime version installed with it is still 7.2 and Apple couldn't have a "Leopard" and "Previous OS's" versions of it. The Preference Panes may have changed but I doubt such a long Leopard "beta" test would have missed something this important.
Those posting here and using Leopard should view the "About QuickTime" window to see the version number. They should also learn how to expand the MIME Settings dialog window by clicking on the tiny disclosure triangle before the word "Miscellaneous".

  • Problem after installing Leopard!

Hey all. So yes, I'm extremely behind the curve but I just got around to installing 10.5 today and just did a simple upgrade and everything SEEMED to go fine but now that my desktop is loading and the Dock is up, nothing is showing up ON the desktop (no HD, no files, etc.) and I have a constant spinning color wheel. When I click on the documents, movies, etc. icons on the dock it lets me see all my folders and everything, it just isn't loading the Finder, I think. Can anybody help me out? Please let me know. THanks so much in advance.

Thanks Carolyn, but I highly doubt it's hard drive space as I noted above I've now free up to 80+ gigs available now and I'm still having problems.
The computer runs PERFECTLY in safe mode.
In normal mode, I can open apps from the Dock, my wallpapers load, dashboard runs, etc. Only my desktop icons (including the Hard Disk icon) are not there. When I right click Finder in the dock it says it's not responding and when I try to "reboot" it (or whatever the term is, it doesn't work. I'm repairing disk permissions now, going to try restart again, but does this make any sense to anybody?
I'm almost at the point of just wiping the hard drive and doing a clean install.

  • PowerPC: FireWire Problems after installing Leopard?

It seems the FireWire port can power the drive but data transfer seems irrelevant. My Western Book Premium Edition won't work through FireWire, but will through USB. My SmartDisk FireLite's status light turns on, but doesn't connect to the computer. :(( Both work on My PowerBook G4 12". Am I missing drivers or is it Leopard? Also, I never used the FireWire port on my Mac Mini much, if not ever. Can't remember the last time I did. sigh.

When a firewire port starts acting up, often a Power Management Unit (PMU) reset will get it going again.
1 Unplug all cables from the computer, including the power cord.
    2 Wait 10 seconds.
3 Plug in the power cord while simultaneously pressing and holding the power button on the back of the computer.
4 Let go of the power button.
5 Press the power button once more to start up your Mac mini.

  • Problem with chess after installing Leopard

The other week I did an Archive and Install of Leopard on my MacBookPro running Tiger. Several applications failed to work following the install and this has been solved by downloading new versions. Although chess seems to be more problematic. Every time I launch chess I just get a message saying that chess has unexpectedly quit. However this behaviour is starting to become expectable. I have read other posts reporting similar problems after installing Leopard however they are able to play a couple of moves before it quits. For me chess does not even launch.
I have tried trashing the preference file, creating and using a new user account, and copying chess from another computer. The copied application just states that I can not use chess with this version of OSX.
Does anyone have any ideas as I really do not want to have to reinstall Leopard just for a application I only use when very bored (which is surprisingly often).
Thanks for any help you can give.
    Chuck

Thanks for pointing out that app. Very useful indeed.
I have deleted my copy of chess and reinstalled a new copy from the OSX Leopard install disk and it still fails to launch.
    Any other ideas?

  • Problems connecting to internet after installing Leopard

I have been having problems connecting to the internet after installing Leopard. I have a G5 at my office and use safari and AOL, using a cable modem and router. Everything worked perfect until I installed Leopard. About 3 days after installing Leopard on my G5 I started having problems connecting to the internet. When opening "network" in preferences it tells me I am connected, but I cannot connect. So I have to restart my computer every time in order to connect. Then to top it off, often in the middle of the day I am able to get and send e-mail with AOL, but my Safari does not connect. And even more bizare, if I am connected and sign off my AOL, I lose Safari as well. Brought the G5 into the Mac store and after trying some stuff they told me "it should work now" but ....same problems. So last Monday, I installed Leopard on my Macbookpro which I use at home wirelessly, everything worked well until yesterday when the same issue with my G5 is happening with the macbookpro. No connection, it tells me I am connected, signal is strong, but nothing.....so restart and keep going. What is going on? Anyone else having same problem? Any solutions
    Roberto

    Roberto,
Is the install of Leopard on the G5 and MacBook Pro an upgrade install or a clean install?
Try some simple maintenance to see if this resolves it:
    1. Run Repair Disk Permissions (Disk Utility)
    2. Go to Network Utility and go to Ping enter in www.cnn.com and see if the packets are received/sent. This is just to see if you can get to the outside so to speak
    3. See if your cable modem manfacturer has a leopard upgrade. Sometimes hardware companies need to upgrade their firmware when new Operating systems come out

  • Problems hotsynching addresses after installing Leopard

I've had no problem synching my Tungsten E2 before, but after installing Leopard on my MacBook, the addresses are no longer synching either from my Mac to my handheld or vice versa. The calendar seems to be synching just fine. There's nothing wrong with my conduit setting and the messages tell me the synch "has worked" but obviously it hasn't--there's no changes in either address book. I have addresses both on the computer and the handheld now which don't exist on the other, so I don't want to do a complete override.
I called Palm Tech support and plunked down my $14.95 and the woman there could only tell me to check my conduit settings, something I had already done. No help there.
Also, there are some addresses that are more up to date and correct on one device or on the computer and I can't figure out how to compare the two so I can choose the most recent changes to be the "master."
I'd love any help you can give me. the first problem, obviously is more pressing!
    Thanks, Laura
    Post relates to: Tungsten E2

Same here with a Centro/ palm phone from Verizon.  It's picking up the phone numbers, but leaving nothing for the addresses.  It was working fine with synching both addresses and numbers, but it seems like after the latest update, it dropped the addresses.  Will be searching other forums for an answer.  Using a MacBook Pro with 10.5.5. (Although registering for this forum I could only chose 10.4 as my operating system.  Come on Palm... you do know Apple has released a new OS, don't you?)

  • Problems after installing OSX Leopard

    Hi
After installing Leopard on my Powermac G5 duel 2.0Ghz only the dock appears (nothing on the desktop) then the cursor turns into a beachball and constantly spinning and unable to do anything, any ideas?

You "should" not lose anything, Archive and install moves you current items into a folder and then does a clean install of the OS. But, things can go wrong and I would suggest backing up all those things before you do anything else, Did you read through the sticky at the top of the Leopard forum? there might be some blue screen info there.
If you can't get your computer to start to backup your data, there are a couple of options available
    1) If you have an external firewire Hdd, you could install 10.5 on it, boot your system from it and then you should be able to pull anything from your original drive to the external drive and when done do your install on your regular drive. (there are other options here as well--after you had everything on your external hdd you could clone it back to your original drive using carbon copy cloner or ? SuperDuper( i haven't used SD but others recommend it) This is a good solution, as after you are done and have everything working on your regular computer, you can then use the external hdd for Time machine backup.
    2) If you have another mac, you can start the mac you need the info from in target mode, hook the two together and drag your data off the corrupted mac onto the other one for temporary storage and then wipe and reinstall your computer.
