Many problems installing Quicktime+iTunes

(Keep in mind I have windows 7 64 bit)
I need the firmware update for my iPhone 3g, which normally I avoid because I always seem to have a problem with quicktime installing properly. But since a couple up my apps needed to work, I gave in.
When I tried to run the update through iTunes, it installs everything correctly. When I went back into iTunes, I got an error saying iTunes needs Quicktime to run properly. So I uninstalled both iTunes and Quicktime. I ran the Apple Update utility and it did the same thing. So I went to the web site and installed them separately. Again, iTunes 1, Quicktime 0. Now I get an error that I don't have the right file path for the .msi file.
I looked on the forum for this solution and found that I needed the Windows Installer Utility (to remove installer files that failed?) Removed Quicktime.
Attempted to reinstall again, since I can't get in iTunes, which I really need.
Now, a different set of problems occur. Now all of my icons that are shortcuts are Quicktime icons, and I cannot get into them without finding the original file in my directory. At this point Quicktime is not even on my computer any longer. When I try to install it, I get an error saying "Could not open key Unknown\components\(A bunch of numbers) Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel." I am on the only account on this PC, but to be fair, I did right click the install file and choose "run as administrator."
Please help!!

It's unlikely taking permissions of the registry key will solve install problems for QT when the initial post referred to a msi file.
This is a rare(ish) variation on a problem involving error messages mentioning missing .msi files that mostly affects 64-bit systems. Although the initial symptom for most people is the missing .msi message, if they use CleanUp, the underlying problem with the registry keys relating to the the Side-by-Side configuration of installed componentry for QuickTime (or Apple Application Support) will come to light.
That's what happened to poor Felix here. (Note in his first post that he's said he's already tried using CleanUp to address the .msi message ... so now the registry key issue has come to light.)
If permissions are just not set properly for the keys, regedit can get us through. But if there's underlying trouble with the ACLs (for example, some people get blank permissions on keys, which are impossible to manipulate via regedit) or other exotica going on, things get messy.

  • Having a problem installing Quicktime/itunes software can't control where it's going to download

so i'm trying to load quicktime/itunes software on my Win7 laptop. had it on the same laptop but with vista. i can not control where the software is being downloaded too. Trying to send to my external drive labeled originally F: somehow it got changed to I:. The package doesn't recognize the label F: and says there's not enough space. I have 410gbs free! The package doesn't give me the option to change where i want to send it. Can't DL bonjour for the same reason. Safari 5 wasn't a problem. So what's the verdict, y'all? I can't update my itouch, which i'm sure sorely needs it.
    Thanks in advance

ok so after days of trying I finally got it to work...
    here's what I did.
    1. Uninstall old versions of iTunes. Reboot.
    2. Uninstall old versions of Quicktime. Reboot.
    3. go in and remove any left over traces of QT or iTunes from hard drive
    4. Remove temp files related to itunes or quicktime. Reboot.
    5. Uninstall audio driver for audigy 2 (WDM)
    6. Install new version of iTunes
    7. reinstall drivers for audio
    8. reboot
    9. check audio drivers (for some reasons even though I reinstalled it didn't come back as the right one after the restart and was listed as disabled) update the driver.
    10. Reboot again
    11. now things should work again.
2 quick notes... Make sure to save a backup copy of your itunes library.itl and your itunes music library.xml so you can system restore back and have the old version work, just in case.
now I Can't be sure... but I assume something like step 9 was happening and not showing up that way in my drivers... although that doesn't explain why uninstalling and fresh installing after installation didn't fix it earlier. but it works now and I'm thrilled.

  • Problem Installing Quicktime 7

    Hi,
I'm trying to install Quicktime 7 on my windows laptop (running windows 7).  When I run the install program, it starts up , then stops and says "There is a problem with this windows installer package.  A program required for this install to complete could not be run.  Contact your support personnel or package vendor."  I have tried simply running the installer and also running it "as administrator" but to no avail.
    Thanks!
    Mike

I'm gonna go ahead and answer my own question ... LOL.  After doing some online research via google it turns out what I'm experiencing is a so called Windows 1721 error.  It would be nice if windows actually told me that that's what it is, and for that matter which program is the "required" program, but it doesn't.
After some additional research, someone suggested that the program in question is Apple Software Update and the proposed solution was to "repair" that program in "Programs" under the Control Panel.  I did that, and finally both Quicktime and iTunes were able to install.
Other suggestions that didn't seem to make any difference were to turn off the firewall and virus protection software.
    Thanks Mike!

  • Problems installing Quicktime

When installing Quicktime, I get the error message that says C:\Documents~1\Megan\Locals~1\Temp\IXP972.TMP\ cannot be found and that the old version cannot be removed. Ive tried finding this file, deleting temporary files and nothing works. Any suggestions? Thanks.

hmmmmm. if we can get the QuickTime program files/folders in the danger area out of the way, then we might be able to convince the PC to install a new version of it in another place. (this won't help with the disk corruption issue on the hard drive itself, but it might help us get itunes up and running in the meantime.)
let's try using "Unlocker" to remove the corrupted file/folder first:
    http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/System-Miscellaneous/Unlocker.shtml
if we can get rid of that one, we'll do a manual uninstall of Quicktime.
Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. then use it to clear any existing QuickTime installation configuration information from your PC:
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
next use the QuickTime component of the complete uninstall instructions in the following document as a guide to a manual removal of any other leftover QuickTime program files and folders.
Trouble installing iPod, iTunes, or QuickTime software in Windows
once we've got all the existing QuickTime scraped away, we'll try a repair install of itunes, which should reinstall your QT for you. (hopefully in a safer area of the drive.)
go into your add/remove programs. select itunes, click "change/remove", select "repair".
does that go through okay? if so, do your itunes and quicktime work okay again?

  • Problem installing Quicktime on XP

Everytime I try to install Quicktime (attempting to use both 7.45 and 7.2) I get the following error message: "Could not access network location \lib\ext\." I'm not installing from a network file, but the installer downloaded onto my hard drive.
Has anyone else experienced this, and if so, what's the corrective action I need to take?
    Thanks.

... and now I know of at least three people who've been able to get past that error with a Java Update. Many thanks for reporting back to us about that.
Kudos for my suggestion here goes to Jacumba (who has been doing the bulk of the troubleshooting work for this error message), and polydorus (who first alerted me to the updating Java fix for this error message).

  • Problem installing Quicktime 7 Pro, help inquiry.

Hi, Im on 10.6.2, I already had Quicktime X installed on the machine, which came with Snow Leopard, But I just purchased Quicktime 7 Pro, and wanted to install that, when I tried, it would not let me because QT X was already installed, so I throw QT X in the trash, then try and download pro, but still, it says that QT X is still there.
The reason I want QT Pro over QT X, is that with Pro I cant take still photos and make them into a video sequence, which I believe X cannot do.
Any idea how to get this QT X off my system, so It will let me install QT Pro.
    Many thanks in advance.

Click here for information, and use Pacifist to install QuickTime X.

  • Problems installing QuickTime 7 with iTunes 6 for Windows XP

I am encountering problems with the latest version of QuickTime (version 7.0.3) together with iTunes 6.
Installation is fine except at the end when I receive an error message saying ’1628: Failed to complete installation’. It appears that both programmes have been installed and work but I am unable to uninstall them. Neither program appears in the Add/Remove programs list when they should be. If I select ‘Uninstall QuickTime’ from the Program list the uninstalation process starts but stops half way through.
I have tried downloading QuickTime standalone version but this is exactly the same. I removed the QuickTime folder, and all its contents, from C:\Program Files\QuickTime and installed the previous version (6.5.2) which installs and uninstalls fine.
I am at a loss as to why the latest version is causing problems.
Would appreciate any help or advice as to why this is happening?
    Thanks

Will a 2nd Gen Shuffle sync with iTunes 6 for
    Windows?
NO... 2nd Gen shuffle requires iTunes 7.0.2 or later

  • More problems installing QuickTime 7.1.5...

    Hi all,
I am having a very similar problem to the previous thread regarding QuickTime 7.1.5 Installer. I am currently on version 7.1.3. I ran the installer a few times and every time it stopped at about 10%. I then tried repairing disk permissions, restarted and tried again. Now it gets to about 19% before stopping.
I am running OSX 10.4.9 and have Quicktime Pro installed. If there are any clever bods reading, I have uploaded the installer log here:
    http://www.jowie.net/transfer/quicktimeinstalllog.txt
If anyone has any ideas I'd be very grateful... It seems to have stopped me from installing iTunes 7.1 too!
    Thanks!

Sorry to have to bump this to the top, but can anyone possibly help please? Without help I cannot install the latest versions of iTunes or QuickTime
Do I need to contact Apple directly? Is there a best practise for doing so?
    Thanks
    :-Joe

So i have been up at school trying to use my itunes to add more songs to my ipod on my new laptop. i installed itunes the first time around when i first got my laptop and one day it just stopped working. I have tried to remove the program entirely from my computer but when i try to do that it says "error 1910 could not find shortcut Itunes.ink" please verify file exists and try again. then after that message i get another saying error code 2330 there may be a problem with this package. i dont know what to do and i just want to get rid of it so i can start from scratch. please help.

You can get this error when there is damage to the filing system. Try running a disk check to see if it finds any errors.
