Many problems with new iPod nano

I had an iPod Mini for a year, and never had any problems with it. Last month, I bought a Nano (4 GB), and I've already had several problems. Has anyone else experienced these issues?
1. When I jog with it (which is very often), it often skips.
2. Several times the purchased music has stopped playing altogether. When I try to play purchased songs, they just skip directly to the next song. The problem is temporarily solved when I restore my Nano, but it then resurfaces within 2 or 3 days- and I have to restore it again. Bottom line, it's a recurrent issue.
3. In the last 3 days, I can't turn off my Nano (it has nothing to do with the "hold" switch being out of place). It operates otherwise normally, but nothing happens when I hold down the "play/pause" button. I tried resetting it and restoring it, but the problem isn't solved.
I can't seem to find any good references in the Troubleshooting tips Apple has posted.
Thanks for any help that you may be able to give me on solving any of these 3 issues.

Numbers 1 and 2 may be related. The iPod nano will not skip just because you are jogging (it does not have a harddrive).

  • Many Problems with new iPod

It all started out when I got my nice shiny new iPod. I installed the latest 64 bit version of iTunes and connected my new iPod. First thing iTunes told me was that the iPod was corrupt and needed to be restored. I thought no big deal. The iPod is new with nothing on it so I had nothing to lose. The iPod was stuck in restore mode for about 8 hours and I gave up. I rebooted the computer and reconnected the iPod. Now iTunes could not see the iPod.
You may need to know that this computer is a newer Dell Studio XPS running the 64 bit version of Windows 7 Home Premium.
I followed all of the recommended solutions on the page for Windows not seeing an iPod. When it came to reinstall iTunes is when the real challenge started. Lots of problems with not being authorized to write some registry keys and iTunes would roll back the installation. Each time I installed iTunes I installed as Administrator. I had to jump through all of the hoops of deleting these registry keys what would not delete. I installed several times, each time deleting a new registry key that the installer would not overwrite. After 2 days I finally got iTunes reinstalled.
However iTunes would still not see the new iPod. Messed around with this for another few hours.
I have an old computer that I seldom use. This is an older Dell Dimension running Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3. It had an old version of iTunes. I thought I would try getting the iPod to work on this computer. This would at least tell me if there was a problem with the iPod itself. I updated the iTunes to the latest version. Connected the iPod. It was seen but said the iPod was corrupt. Did a restore and all appeared to work fine. So this tells me the problem is not with the iPod, but with iTunes on the other computer.
I went to my other computer, the one that I want to use iTunes on, and reconnected the iPod. It was seen this time but iTunes said that the iPod was corrupt and needs to be restored. I started the restore process. It has been restoring for over 10 hours now.
I really don't want to start over with all of the problems I had reinstalling iTunes.
Anyone have some suggestions on what to try next?

Made some progress during my lunch break. I started suspecting a problem with the USB driver for this iPod. I found KB article 1538 which was helpful.
I went to the device manager and deleted anything that looked like an Apple device and deleted all USB mass storage devices. I also deleted the device drivers for these items at the same time. I then scanned for hardware changes and the iPod was found.
The iPod is now seen in Windows Explorer. It still has the name I gave it when it was connected to my other PC. So I suspect the restore that was taking over 10 hours never had a chance to start. From Windows Explorer I was able to access some folders on the iPod.
iTunes would still not see this iPod. However I hope a reboot will solve this.
Ran out of time and needed to go back to work. I will update how this worked.

  • BMW car adapter problems with new iPOD nano

    Hi,
I recently swapped my iPOD nano to the new model. I used the old one as "CD-changer" in my BMW 3-series with the original Apple BMW iPod Adapter.
    Worked really great.
With the new iPOD nano the interface does not work any more properly:
    - the iPOD is not turned off when the car radio is swtiched off.
    - the iPOD is not charged any more through the interface
    - once connected through the interface, the display is turned on (full white) and remains on! You could use it as a flashlight. The batteries are empty through this after max. 3 hours.
Means: If you forget to switch off the iPOD manually after the journey, it will be dead when you come back.
I updated already to latest firmware 1.0.2, no diference.
Apple has no contact to call.
BMW does not know anything and cannot help.
Anyone an idea whom to contact or how to overcome?
    Thank you,
    JJer

Mine finally got fixed at the MINI dealership! At first they kept telling me to update my ipod firmware but 2 firmware updates later (I'm up to 1.1 now) it still did not work). I finally convinced them to take a look at it. They were able to reproduce the same thing I saw, where my ipod worked on their cars, and their ipods worked on my car. That seemed to show that the connector and cables were ok, but they ordered a whole extra kit anyway just to try it out. After they got the new kit, they found out that though the cables were ok, they had to replace the ipod "interface/module (hw v3.0/sw v3.0)" to get it to work. Now my ipod finally works in my car and I get the MINI logo and everything!
You guys may want to check with your respective dealerships or whoever installed the adapter to see if you may have the same issue.

I recently upgraded to iTunes 11.1.5 and now my iPod Nano is not recognized in iTunes. I also upgraded my iPhone 5s to iOS 7.1. i Tunes on my computer does recognize my iPhone. What is the problem with my iPod Nano not being recognized?

I would think, Twins1995, that if we are having the problem, others are as well. Hopefully, Apple will shortly issue a follow-up software release to fix the problem. Or is that just wishful thinking on my part.
It would be helpful, if there were some kind of work-around in the interim, so we can use our devices. Pretty frustrating when you consider that all of the hardware and software is produced by Apple.

  • New laptop = problems with itunes/ipod nano 3g

I bought a new computer and am having some issues with my ipod/itunes. In itunes, all songs that weren't downloaded from the itunes store have an exclamation point next to them and I get a message saying the song could not be used because the original file could not be found. I did copy my personal music from my old computer via flash drive and the itunes preferences are set properly to search in the location in which they are saved. How can I get itunes to locate the file itself without doing it manually? Also, I cannot get my iPod to sync with my new computer iTunes - I did authorize my new computer. It shows my ipod on itunes, but will not sync my new music and playlists. How can I fix that as well?

Personally I am very happy with my new iPod Nano. It works great with Nike Plus and I love the video and some of the cool features like stopwatch and more. I have an earlier iPod Nano and I was hesitant to buy the new one but I am so glad I did. I don't have any problems uploading data.

  • Multiple issues with new IPod Nano+ ITunes 7

I am a formerly happy and loyal Apple user, but have recently become disenchanted due to what I see as bad faith actions.
I bought a new Ipod nano for my wife and brought it home to set up. When I plugged it in, it told me that I needed ITunes 7. Fair enough, I go up to download ITunes 7, only to be told that it won't work with OS 10.2.8 and that I need 10.3.9. There is nothing on the IPod packaging that indicates that I can only use ITunes 7. So as far as I can tell, Apple wants me to pay another $129 to buy a new OS, so that I can use my new ipod. It doesn't give me the option to use it with my existing setup. Is there a workaround so that I can use my ipod with my existing OS?
I started transferring my music collection to a PC to see if I could make it work there, since ITunes 7 works with Windows XP, which I have. This creates a new problem, since I can't seem to get the DRM protected music I bought on my Mac through ITunes to work on the PC. Can't get it to load onto the IPod, which is my whole intent in transferring it. My solution now is to not buy anything more from Itunes, since it will be a pain to transfer it when I change computers. I am not going to burn CDs for 400 songs, just to load them onto another computer. It seems like there are solutions on the web that can help you strip the DRM protection from songs, so I plan on using those to be able to listen to the music that I paid for.
Sor far, I have spent multiple hours trying to make things work. I have no interest in anything other than being able to listen to my music on our Ipods. While I understand the necessity to protect copyrights and limit illicit sharing, Apple has gotten a little too manipulative of a loyal customer base. Apple can count me in the formerly happy, now alienated group.

  • Problems syncing new ipod nano

I was given a 7th generation ipod nano for Christmas. I installed itunes and it downloaded some of my music to the ipod including two books I had bought from Audible. It then refused to sync anything else, not even the music I've bought from itunes store. I've removed the audible files from the ipod and from the itunes library but I still can't add anything to the ipod. When itunes opens up it says sync is complete, but there are still only two albums on the ipod. I've tried restoirng the settings on  the ipod and when I tried to uninstall itunes my computer crashed, but itunes are still there with the same problems. I've now lost hours trying to resolve this

    Hello JoJo717,
Congratulations on your new iPod nano!  It sounds like you have one computer but multiple iPods.  There are a three options when syncing multiple devices to one computer, and the article below outlines these methods.  I recommend reviewing the article to find a method that would work for you:

  • Problem with new IPod Touch - connecting to computer

Just bought an IPod touch 2nd generation and plugged it into my computer to charge and to set up. I got a "found new hardware-Ipod" message and then the "found new hardware wizard" screen came up asking me for an installation CD or floppy to install software. I already have iTunes installed (the newest version) as have used it before with an Ipod nano. I have tried plugging the ipod into different USB ports on the computer but no avail.
Could anyone help me with this problem as am desperate to use my new Touch?
    Thanks

All was well with my 2nd Generation Itouch until I downloaded Itunes 8.2. then ol boy what problems I have had! As follows:
    1) Itunes cannot detect my device, therefore, no syncing is possible
    2) Cannot connect to the Itunes Store....error indicates I have problems with my network connection (error code 3221), although I am connected and I have not previously had a problem.
I have searched for possible resolutions and have:
    (a) Uninstalled Itunes and reinstalled .... NO GOOD
    (b) Reset the network settings on the Itouch .... NO GOOD
    (c) Reset all settings ... NO GOOD
    (d) Ensured that the Apple mobile device option are okay
etc etc. In fact, I have done everything possible that has been indicated on the various websites. I should confirm that my computer recognises my Itouch BEFORE I access Itunes.
    Please help.

  • Problem recognizing new Ipod nano

When I connect my new ipod nano to my mac and open itunes, the nano device is not recognized.  How do it get it to connect?

    To clarify Nathan's post:
The way the iPod works under Windows requires a certain file (iPodService.exe) to be running.
However, this service can only run on one account at a time. So Windows opens it in the first account opened. If you switch users, the service is still running (only) in the first account running.
A simple restart, followed by logging in to your account, will fix this, because your account will be given access to the service.
In the future, your options are to use the Log Out feature instead of Fast User Switching, or to disable the service from running under any accounts other than your own. The former is simple, the latter, not so much, but I'll include instructions so that you can do it if you're comfortable with the somewhat advanced options you'll need to access.
About Fast User Switching in iTunes for Windows
How to force iPodService to start in only one account
Use to avoid the logoff problem
Open the account you want it permanently off of, go to the desktop, right click on My Computer, and hit Manage.
Hit Services & Applications>Services>iPodsrv (or iPodservice, it's an older version).
Double click, set the 'startup type' to Disabled, and it won't open in that account.
Rinse, repeat for any other accounts as needed.

  • Big problem with my Ipod Nano

Hello. I recently bought a new Ipod Nano 3G 8gb in America and brought it home with me to Sweden.
At first it worked perfectly, as all the products I have bought from apple have. However, after updating the software(firmware?) of the ipod it started malfunctioning. I could no longer transfer songs to my new Ipod and thought that a reset would be just what it needed. After letting Itunes reset the ipod i get a message telling me that there is an Ipod in "Restoration Mode" and that it needs to be reset before usage. So I use the Itunes reset function again, and i get the same message. After repeating this a couple of times, the ipod just boots to the Apple logo (Silver apple on a black background) and suddenly i cant do anything except resetting it, I cant put it in disk mode, neither Windows nor Itunes recognize the ipod, and I am getting pretty frustrated.
I do not think that buying the Ipod in the states has anything to do with the issue, since friends have done the same before. I need your help, if i can't fix it, will it cost me anything to get it checked in a swedish apple store? All help is greatly appreciated.

the apple warranty is worldwide to there is no problem or charge of having it checked in the sweden apple store, aslong as you've tried everything to get it back to life, i would advise you taking it to the apple store for one of their guys to have a look at it!
    hope this helps!

  • Still problems with the Ipod Nano 3g and the Nike+ kit??

I thinking about buying an Ipod Nano and the Nike+ kit tomorrow but now I'm a bit unsure due to some of the problems mentioned here in this forum? Do you still have problems with the commuication between the Nano and the sensor? Are there still problems wtih the distance being wrong or only in km? Should I buy - if possible - a Ipod Nano 2G?
