Many sites show a grey box requesting a plugin but there is no way to know which plugin to install.

On a new install of Firefox (new laptop) i have many sites that show a grey box saying that a plugin is required to display the content. Clicking on the box does nothing so I don't know what is required.
Previous versions of Firefox told you what was needed and assisted in fixing the problem. (as far as I remember) IE and Chrome work fine on these sites.

The ALL BOAT site uses Flash, and since that is one of the web's most popular formats, I suspect many of the missing plugins are Flash.
There is a different Flash control for each browser. To get the one for Firefox, try loading the following page from Firefox:
http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
Before downloading, make sure the uncheck any unwanted extras.

I have an second issue as well: When I hook off all-day it comes up with an 8 hour event!
And then if I put in a late start hour it pushes end time to next day due to the 8 hour event suggestion.
All in all this gives a lot of changes just to enter an event.

If you only see the time then that would mean that you see an entry of the current day (today).
History items from past days should have the date as well in the Most Recent Visit column.
You should be able to see this changing if you open the last 7 days folder and scroll down.

I think you should probably also read the iPad User Guide. You didn't say what version of iOS your iPad is running, so here's the links to both the iOS 6 and iOS 7 (PDF) versions:

Soft ware updater shows that there is an update available (apature) but there is no way i can find to install the update ML

Imported some pics from my iphone to my laptop using apature. From the default foldere I created a new project using the new twb. For the first time I used the 'move selected items to folder' And this is where my problems started,coppied pics took ages to show up. but 27 pics in the origional folder just dont show up even though it states that the folder contains 27 pics. can restore from the clowd but would like an easier fix
The last thing that is just as frustrating is that updater is showing that there is an update available for Aperature but there is no way to install it I updated aperature before upgrading to >ML since then thi up date has shown up but will not install. GRRRRRRRR

You cannot upgrade to another major release of Mac OS X via Software Update, since such upgrades - 10.5 to 10.6 or 10.7 - are not free. You will first need to purchase a copy of Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard and upgrade your system, and then you can upgrade to 10.7 Lion. For both purchases you will need to call the online Apple Store, 10.6 and 10.7 both no longer being available for web ordering. For 10.6 you will get a disk, and for 10.7 you will get a code which you can redeem in the Mac App Store to which you'll have access once you upgrade to 10.6.

Why are my pictures coming up as empty grey boxes in iPhoto? But only some of them . . . .

This is a bit of a long story, but here goes . . .
We have iPhoto 8.1.2 on an iMac that has OS X 10.6.8
Awhile back, after shutting down my computer normally, it wouldn't start up again. So my husband did a restore and fixed it. We had everything backed up through the Time Machine and everything seemed happy.
But a few days later I tried accessing some pictures and it turns out the last 6 months of our pictures aren't showing up on iPhoto. When you quickly scroll through the pictures, you can see the thumbnails, but when it stops scrolling, they turn into grey boxes. When you try to open a picture it shows a big exclamation mark. You can see the location where the picture was taken though.
Anyways, when we look through the backups on the Time Machine they all have the same problem. We looked in the Originals file, and those dates don't even show up with any files at all. For some reason, any older Time Machine back ups were deleted to make room for new ones.
Have I lost all those pictures??? I can't find them anywhere to fix it. I know a week before we restored the computer all those pictures were there and working fine.
Please help.

When you empty the trash the files therein are not erased* but instead the space the occupy is made available for re-use. So until that space is overwritten the files may be recovered with an app like File Salvage

A reset should help: Tap and hold the Home button and the On/Off button at the same time for approximately 10-15 seconds, until the Apple logo reappears. When the logo appears, release both buttons and await restart.

Sites showing us in UK under Snow Leopard, but we are in US

Not sure if this is a Snow Leopard issue, but it began around the same time. When we visit sites that automatically detect your location, they are showing us as being in the UK, but we are in the US. This has happened on both my Mac and my wife's Dell, so I am assuming it has something to do with our Airport Extreme.
I am not sure if Snow Leopard would change our settings in any way or not? One thing I did do was to allow OSX to automatically detect our time zone using our current location in System Preferences > Date & Time > Time Zone. I have since changed it back to our location, but it is still happening.
I am using a 2.4GHz MBP with 4GB running 10.6.
Any ideas would be appreciated.

Such sites usually take a guess at where you are based upon your IP address, so its possible that your Internet Service Provider has added some new address space which you are now using.
Try the tools at http://www.whatsmyip.org/ to see if that gives you any pointers

Anything Downloaded with a Particular Apple ID is tied to that Apple ID and Cannot be Merged or Transferred to a Different Apple ID.

Some characters show as grey box (missing from font?)

Browsing, e.g. <http://www.haskell.org/onlinereport/haskell2010/haskellch4.html#x10-820061>, some of the characters are replaced by a grey placeholder box. Comparing with the desktop, one seems to be U+22C6, so I'm thinking that it can't find a font to display that with. But it seems to affect some ordinary ASCII-range characters too, in Fig 4.1 and following text at the URL above, so maybe there's more going on?
More generally, from other questions here I gather that Firefox is using its own fonts rather than relying on what's on the device already. So, can I shore that up with some good fallback fonts like symbola?

Firefox will use Charis or Clear Sans by default. Though if the glyph is not found in those fonts it will check the other system fonts such as Roboto or Droid Sans.
The glyph coverage should be the same as Chrome or the 'browser/internet' application. If it is not then we would need a copy of the fonts installed on the phone as we have run into phones that ship corrupt fonts. Doing this requires the Android SDK and executing the following command
adb pull /system/fonts/
Then zip the fonts and share them with us.

Try turning the router off for about 5 minutes, then turn it back on. Same with your Mac.
Then go to ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db
For Lion v10.7x: To find the Home folder in OS X Lion, open the Finder, hold the Option key, and choose Go > Library
Move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
Now try Safari ...
Tip ... since you are running v10.7 Lion, the only way to reinstall Safari would be to use Lion Recovery. Downloading and installing Safari from the Apple support page will not work on Lion.
