MAP 8.5 reporting old computer information

We have been running map at regular intervals during our refresh process. One of the things we notices is that if we replace a computer with a new one and give it the same computer name( this is done for app specific reasons), when we rerun map it show
the machine but with stale data. For example: Machine A is Windows XP, we replace it with Machine B with Windows 7, but give it the same computer name. When we rerun Map the machine appears, but with the original machines IP address and OS information. This
is leasing to an inflated machine count. Could this be DNS related?

The MAP database is cumulative, but it will not overwrite data it has already collected. Each inventory scenario has a data set associated with it, and there is a lot of overlap between scenarios. When a scenario is selected, MAP expects to collect the data
in that data set. Once MAP has collected a piece of data from that data set from a computer, it does not query that computer for that data again. If all of the expected data is collected, then MAP will skip that computer in subsequent inventory runs.
If you were to choose a different inventory scenario that overlaps with the first scenario, but it also has data not previously collected, MAP will try those new queries on all current and previously discovered machines, but it will skip any queries that
are part of the overlap and had been collected successfully in previous runs. MAP tracks these data points on a computer by computer basis. There is no way to “refresh” the data. If something in the environment changes, the only way to pick that up is to create
a new database within MAP (File > Select databases) and run a new scan.

    Hi MrsMoosie,
I'm sorry to hear you are having these issues with your iPad. If your iPad isn't responding or doesn't appear to be charging, you may find the information and troubleshooting steps outlined in the following articles helpful, in particular the following portion:
If you don't see the charging screen within an hour, or you see the connect to power screen, check your connector, USB cable, and power adapter. Make sure that everything is plugged in firmly, free of debris, and not damaged. You might want to try a different USB cable or power adapter.
If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch doesn't respond or doesn't turn on - Apple Support
If you can’t charge your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

  • After update, no computer information, no reports

After installing OS X 10.5.x on a PPC (upgrade from 10.4.11.) I experience several issues. One of them is related to ARD 3.3:
After doing the upgrade, installing all other updates and security fixes, I'm just able to view and control computers via ARD, but don't get any system information, cannot create reports or even copy files by drag&drop.
For example, the column "ARD" which shows the installed ARD version on the remote computer still holds the old version information, although I created a custom client installation program and installed it on the remote computer (XServe PPC G5).
I tried everything (at least, what I know). Even trashing the preferences file of ARD did not work (just caused some work to me to set up everything again).
At the remote computers, I ensured that ARD is enabled in system preferences and the user that logs in has sufficient permissions in ARD to create reports, etc..
Have been there any changes made to new version of ARD regarding required ports that must be accessible on the remote computer ?
Is there anything to check ? Are there known errors ?
How can I verify that ARD client runs on the remote computers ?

We have the same issue here on G5 2x2 GHz with Mac OS X 10.5.8:
When I am try to get reports with the newly updated Apple Remote Desktop Admin Software 3.3, it works around a while and then tells me success for all clients.... and that's it. The only feedback I get is the fields which was received, but no report.
    Anyone any ideas?

  • New HP Pavillion All-in-one PC 20-b014 ( and moving information from old computer)

    Hello,
I apologize if this has been asked before....but would appreciate some assistance.
I currently have a HP Pavilion Slimline s5310y desktop PC (running Windows 7) and just purchased the HP Pavillion All-in-one PC 20-b014(Windows 8).  I was wondering if it was possible to migrate some of my information directly from my old computer to my new computer.  If not, what would be the best/easiest  way to move some of the current information (Turbo tax folders and Itunes) to my new computer.
My knowledge base in this process is limited, so if it can be explained in a  "For Dummies" fashion, it would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you,

    Help please

To build on the second option provided by The Edmeister make sure that you have your Sync Key, if this is not the case Firefox Sync will not help you (data is encrypted with that Key).
Finally, if the last sync happened long time ago, it may be the case that your data is not on the servers anymore. Firefox Syn wasn't designed as a back up service.

    Lynda-
If you still have the old computer, you should be able to connect the iPad, run iTunes and restore from a backup from a previous sync.  Now that you have it updated, you will not need to do that again.

You'll need your serial number or proof of purchase. It's really no different than any other kind of software.

Hi: I got my ipod in 2011 and synced it to my old computer. The music that Is on it is from imported cd, so I cannot transfer purchases to my new computer. I also want to keep the settings, favourites, folders, and information that is on my ipod. How do i sync it to new computer? Please Help.

You will also have to copy the iPod backup file to the new computer and then restore your iPod from backup using that backup. The file is located here:
iTunes places the backup files in the following places:
    Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
    Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
    Windows Vista and Windows 7: \Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
Note: If you do not see the AppData or Application Data folders, you may need to show hidden files (Windows XP,  Windows Vista and Windows 7), or iTunes may not be installed in the default location. Show hidden files and then search the hard drive for the Backup directory
You can also  make a backup on the new computer by conneting the iPod and right clicking on the iPod under Devices in iTunes and selecting BackUp. When you retore from backup sometime the app folder structure get messed up.

Backup your data off the machine to a external drive (not TimeMachine) and disconnect.
Create another Admin account in System Preferences and log into it, delete your Admin Account and reboot.
Optional: Open Disk Utility and Erase Free Space (Zero good enough, 7x for military level, both take time)
This should be good enough to remove just your account and data without the hassle of reinstalling the OS and all new programs again.
However if you need that level, then c boot off the 10.6 disk (or command r boot on Lion) and use Disk Utility there to Zero or 7x erase the OSX drive/partition, quit and reinstall OS X. Much more work that likely is unnecessary in your case.
    Good Luck.

  • I have an ipod that downloaded information to from an old computer. i now h

i have an ipod that downloaded information to from an old computer. i now have a new computer, if i was to plug in my ipod to this new computer will all the items that i downloaded onto it still be on there or will it be erased?

If your iPod is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you use our iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod.
The transfer of content sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:

    YamiPod Mac and Windows
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows
iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)

If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • My old computer crashed and deleted my iTunes media file with all my playlist. However, my iPod has the playlist I lost on the computer. How can I replace (reverse synch?) my iPod media information back onto my (now reinstalled) virgin iTunes media folder

My old computer crashed and deleted my iTunes media file with all my playlist. However, my iPod has the playlist I lost on the computer. How can I replace (reverse synch?) my iPod media information back onto my (now reinstalled) virgin iTunes media folder?

Yes it's possible to sync music back from a iPod back into iTunes that (I assume) wasn't purchased on the iTunes Store.
Apple allows iTunes Store purchases on devices to be reversed back into iTunes, just not cd rips and stuff like that. For that it's a one way trip to the device from iTunes.
I likely can't suggest such software here, but if you visit iLounge you can ask what is the latest software that works for your platform.
Really it only takes a mere few minutes to backup your iTunes Library and stick in a few cd/dvd's or a external drive. iTunes even has a menu command for it to make it oh so simple. Please use it and backup all your data.
Hard drives fail, computers burn up, thieves steal, stuff gets forgotten. Plan for something happening because it will.
    Good Luck

  • New Computer old user Information

I was just given a Mac G3 Tower. And I am Trying to find out how to get rid of all the old user information. I am completely new to Macs. And going through the help menu is driving me insane.
    Thanks

Welcome to Apple Discussions and the wonderful world of Mac computing.
    You have two options:
    1. If you have the Panther install disks the best way to get rid of everything is to completely reformat and erase the HDD, then reinstall Panther. You will have a clean HDD and a fresh OS installation. Please post back for directions.
    2. If you have the Admin User password you can create a new admin account, log into the new account, then delete the old user Account. Here's how:
    - Boot computer and log in
    - Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Accounts
    - Click on lock, and authenticate with Password
    - Click the plus at the bottom of the list of Accounts to create new account.
    - Set up Account Name, password etc. Be sure you have a password you can remember.
    - Check box to allow user to administer computer.
    - Go to Apple menu and select log out user at bottom of drop down menu.
    - Log into the new user account just created.
    - Select old user Account in list
    - Click minus sign to delete account.
    - Choose to delete account and accompanying data.
You now have your own user account, password, and the old User Account and associated data is no more.
Please do post back should you have further questions or comments.
    Cheers

  • How do i transfer all my information from old computer to this one with a external hard drive

how do i tranfer old info from my other computer to the new one with a external hard drive?

Copy what you want from the old computer's Home folder to the external drive. Connect the drive to the new computer and restore that data to the proper locations in the new computer's Home folder.

  • HT3819 so we will be getting rid of our old computer so home sharing will maintain our library on new computer/we wont lose any information when i restore my old computer and get rid of it?

soi we are wanting to install itunes on our new computer and move all of our itunes to it. we see the home sharing is this the best way? once we move the itunes under home sharing can we get rid of the original computer we had itunes on. it is a old desk top and we no longer want it.. just want to make sure we dont loose anything once we home share to a new computer..

Just my personal opinion, but using home sharing to transfer content is extremely unintelligent.
Copy the ENTIRE iTunes folder from the old computer to the new computer or use the Windows File transfer utility to move all your content from the old computer to the new computer.
