Map Icon in Toolbar on iPhone 3GS
I can't find any info about the map icon - a pointy arrow that appears in the iphone toolbar next to the battery icon after some map-related apps have been used. What does this icon mean exactly? How is it toggled on and off?

As mentioned, it means some app is using location services.
It is shown when location services is being used.
It will go away when all apps that are using location services are closed.
Sounds like you may have left an app open in the background that makes use of location services.

Why is the iTunes Store (iTunes Mobile) Icon missing from my iPhone 3GS?
I got an iPhone 3GS a couple of weeks ago and decided that see what the iTunes Store would be like on my phone. But I have looked everywhere, and I can't find the icon.
I looked on the Apple How To page and searched Google, but couldn't find anything on this. The Apple How To page did say that the iTunes Store is not available in some regions, but I'm in the US on AT&T, so I'm pretty sure that its supported here.
I do have the Apps Store Icon, and haven't noticed anything else missing.
Any thoughts would be much appreciated.if you have all 11 pages filled in apps on the phone... it might have shoved off into the uncharted spaces...
try a restart... i find that if i'm using the dock at the bottom to move icons around i loose the built in icons from time to time... power down and back up restores them. -

Actually Apple has developed its own maps and no more have it in sync with google as it did before so now apple has its own mapping software.

I have a problem synching calendar data between my iPhone 3GS iOS 5.1 & Outlook 2007 on MS7. The basic calendar data transfer is OK but the birthdays (little box icon) are a day early & cannot be changed to the correct date. The birthday entries in my Outlook contacts have correct dates.How can I fix this?
The following peocess corrects the calendar entry:
edit the contact & change the birthday, save the change; edit the contact & change the birthday to the correct value, save the change again. The calendar entry then displays on the correct date. Alternatively as a temp solution I can just de-select the "birthdays" calendar which stops the icon being displayed.
Thanks for your advice, I think that it's n going to be a slow process to fix all the entries for not much return. -
Iphone 3GS no battery charging icon, does not show charging, does not get recognized by computer or Itunes, have tried restore mode & DFU mode. Bad battery or port?

My iPhone 3Gs has frozen and I can't do anything except turn it off by hard boot. When I plug it in, I have the apple icon and that is all. It was at 43 percent battery life when it happened and my Twitter app was giving me problems. Thoughts?

If the AirPlay icon doesn't appear
Check for the AirPlay icon ( ) in the recently used apps section on your iOS device, or in iTunes on your computer (as in these articles about how to use AirPlay and how to use AirPlay Mirroring). The icon will only appear if your device or computer is logged onto a Wi-Fi network which has an AirPlay-enabled recipient, such as Apple TV (2nd generation or 3rd generation).
If you are still unable to see the AirPlay icon, try one of the following steps:
Verify that your AirPlay-enabled devices have the most up-to-date software or firmware.
Verify that your iOS device has Wi-Fi turned on. Enable Wi-Fi on your iOS device by going to Settings > Wi-Fi.
Verify that all your AirPlay-enabled devices are logged on to the same home Wi-Fi network (check the home network names on your devices to confirm).

My IPad 2, IPhone 3GS ans iPod no longer work with apple TV, I have 2 apple TV in my house and for he last 3 weeks the iPod was the only one we could use for appleTV now none of them works, the apple TV icon does not show up any more. Re-started everything.

RESPONSES:
1) When I set up my iMac, I did not transfer any data directly from my windows PC. I simply used the same iTunes login and account. I have access to all of the files via the "Purchased" section of the iTunes store. If I click "Download Previous Purchases" text, I can download ALL of the purchases I have ever made.
2) I have the Apple TV 2, so good news, question answered. I thought maybe it was the Apple TV 1, but it is the Black model, so bam. Good response for you. Well the whole damned reply is an awesome response, just pointing out that one piece of awesome. I stated that it was an Apple TV 2, and yet you were still good enough to figure I could be mistaken, and provide me with knowleedge just incase.
QUESTIONS:
3) So can my iMac not stream the data directly from itunes, without download? Apple TV can, but perhaps that is something among many things that maker it unique, and awesome.

I work in the computer support section for the Military. The only problem is we use Windows , lol. Well that and i've been gone for nearly 6 months on recover. I go back next month though I hope. But working in that field gives me the abilty to judge responses that run inside the same vein. Your response was so awesome that I half thought I might have written it myself. -
IPhone 3GS - "LOCATION PINNING" PROBLEM ON THE MAP
Hi everyone. I'm currently using an iPhone 3GS running on IOS4 and unfortunately facing "location pinning problem" on the map. Even though, "location services" feature is on and also "active" for photos, I quite often need to reboot my device right after I took a picture(s) in order to see the "location pin(s)" on the map.
But sometimes I don't need to do so, because it somehow captures the place the picture's taken and puts a pin on the map right away.
Do you have any ideas about where that problem might be stemming from? Appreciate your help on this issue. Thx a lot in advance...so did you happen to resolve that "pinpointing" issue?

Camera icon on lock screen in iOS 5.1 only makes lock screen jump on iPhone 3GS
I upgraded my iPhone 3GS to iOS 5.1 just now - and found the first bug within the first few seconds.
The camera quick access icon on the lock screen only makes the lock screen jump up and down a little, so about half of the photo app's lower bar, where the shutter, still/video icon etc. is, becomes visible for less than a second. And that's it.
I can't believe that nobody tested this on a 3GS.
It seems Apple got completely lost in stuffing in more and more frills and gadgets, everything after iOS 3.1.3 is way beyond a simple, clear and easy to use interface, and every little frill introduces more and more bugs and flaws. Having something simply and clear has been something that Apple was really good at - but that seems to be history.
Man, I'm SO annoyed - and SO disappointed.Sorry, I meant swiping, not tapping.
It took me three reboots and one restore from the previous backup, only after that it started working as expected.
I also noticed that a lot of ram kept being marked as used although not a single app was running in the background.
Anyway - why did it need to be a swipe instead of a tap? One can only access it after a home button press - safe enough to not accidentally activate it.
I miss the possibility like in iOS 3 to assign the home button double-click to the camera start. THAT was really handy. -
My iPhone 3GS on iOS 5.1 will randomly stop what I'm doing show a black screen then the spinning icon and then it shows my lockscreen. It takes about a minute to do this and it does it about 30 times a day. How do I fix this? It is EXTREMELY ANNOYING!
No, sounds like when you dropped it an cracked the screen it may have also damaged the logic board or the repair person damaged a cable.

My iPhone 3GS cant restore iTune software, I tried to update the last version and did ok , but when I try to restore the program a message said, no dispositive found.I see on the screen a usb and the iTunes icon indicator.

i recently brought a iphone 3gs and had it unlocked then my boyfriend restored it to factory setting now my screen just has the apple icon stuck on it any suggestions as what to do?
It is now locked to the original carrier. Sounds like that was Orange. Only the carrier the phone is locked to can authorize the unlock of the phone. You may be able to use it again on Orange, or if they provide unlock services you may be able to get it unlocked, however I have read of many phones that have been hacked to unlock not accepting the factory unlock.
